Setting up in a one-mate shifter universe, the story of a wolf shifter who found his mate at a very young age. Befriended her, this couple became BFF until tragedy struck. Soulmates separated; never forgotten of each other, but one misunderstanding drove the h away.

The story was short actually and straightforward, though I got blindsided with the side story. I knew that the side story on poachers and the H family seemed significant for the series, but somehow it was a bit insignificant to the main plot and went like forever. I don't know, maybe it was just me who didn't like the side story. Or maybe I just didn't see it completing the whole picture.

This author does a good job of writing stories that have duel virgins. That said, this one didn't hold my attention like "Logan" did. While I loved Deacon, I honestly had a hard time connecting to Riley's character. She seemed to cause unnecessary problems for everyone. The story was still good though and had lots of emotions to go along with it. And while I didn't care for Riley, it won't stop me from recommending this book because hey, I know others will like it! That's what reading is all about. I'll be waiting to see who gets their story told next!

Deacon and Riley

While I loved Logan, the first book in this new shifter series, Deacon for me, dragged just a bit. The book starts with an excess amount of background story. And while it is nice to be able to fully embrace both main characters, this book seemed to have a lot of background story...
The back story took 40 percent of the book. After that they finally get together around 57 percent. I enjoyed the book but it was very long winded and it seemed every time a character talked they had a lot to say and that, to me, made the story drag.

I really enjoyed Deacon's character,  I thought he was a great H and he was wholly devoted to Riley since the first time he saw her. I didn't care for Riley though. I thought she was immature for what she went through and her bitterness was borderline witchy. She blamed death on everyone leaving her and when she saw something at a glance she automatically assumed the worst because everyone  "left" her, why wouldn't he. Then she made others betray his friendship with them because she didn't want to see him and THEN towards the end of the book she condradicts herself and says "she always knew he wouldn't betray her like that because that's not the kind of person he is...."  I don't know,  I just didn't care for her.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books.  I hope Wren and Ever won't be too snarky ( though I have a feeling Ever will be).

2.5 stars
I liked the first book but I felt it gave too much of the other guys stories away and I was correct. The first 50% of this book you already knew what happened because it was told in the first book. It felt like a waist of reading. Then the last 50% is sex scenes and getting the next guys stories told. Yeah you kinda know of course they’ll finally accept their mates but I can’t even finish the series because I know they told them their secrets. Only reason I give it 2.5 stars is because it would have been a great story if I hadn’t already read it and the epilogue.

Safe not with others after meeting
Dual POV
Dual virgins
Fated mates
No ow/om drama just a misunderstanding
Epilogues good a few months out then 13 years out.

Riley (21)
Deacon (21)

Deacon is a wolf shifter who as soon as he met Riley as a child knew she was his mate, unfortunately at the age of 14 her grandmother died and she moved away, he always hoped of seeing her again

Riley was always on in love with Deacon even before knowing what it feels like, she had to move when her grandmother died at 14 to foster care, she finally found a main place at 15 and that’s where she met Raina (FMC of last book Logan) and they become best friends. They end up opening up a bakery in the town she lived before (where Deacon still lives)

Their is a misunderstanding, she came back at 18 for Deacon and she thought she saw Deacon making out and having sex with another girl but it wasn’t him

Amazing!!!

I am so happy that Deacon & Riley finally made it back to eachother. I knew it had to be a misunderstanding as I only read true fated mate stories, but I was curious how it would all be explained. Loved seeing Logan & Raina again and the whole crew is still amazing❤

#2 is swoon worthy

I loved how Deacon became possessive of Riley! I also loved how they would play and chase each other. It is awesome to see this Shifter Family/community growing!
