Sienna has been in love with her brother’s best friend since the day she fell out of a large sycamore tree and landed at his feet. Being bloody and bruised paled in comparison to the feelings emerging upon meeting Blake for the first time. Feelings that only grew through the years.
Holding onto any word, gesture or look that Blake sent her way, Sienna thought the worst thing in life was her unrequited feelings - until a betrayal changes everything and Sienna walks out of Blake’s life forever. Now, seven years later, Blake has returned to their small home town of Mason Creek. When he and Sienna come face-to-face, anger, hurt, confessions and lust all come to a head. Sienna has waited years to tell him that she doesn’t have to be his first love, just his last.
But Blake has one more revelation that he believes might change her mind.

Author Jennifer Miller is an award-winning and best-selling author. Her books are contemporary romance and the focus ranges from new adults, romantic comedies and sports romance.
You know those books you read and you wish you can read them again for the first time? Those books are rare for me. They are the ones that have an impact on me. Perfect Tragedy was one of those books. This book was simply amazing! I read it in one day even with my kids around because I just couldn’t put it down! The story of Sienna and Blake made me cry, gave me goosebumps, and absolutely left me wanting more from Jennifer Miller! This is the 5th book in the Mason Creek series, 2nd five star read for me in this series (the other three got very respectable four stars!), and fifth new author to me. It has led to my TBR list growing longer and longer with all the previous books by these great authors! If you like second chance, friends to lovers, brother’s best friend, military romances then this is the book for you. There were times I wanted to scream at some characters and I wanted to hug others. That is the sign of an author truly writing characters that are so real and a story the reader gets lost in. This is a can’t miss book!

Perfect Tragedy by Jennifer Miller is the fifth book in the Mason Creek series. Mason Creek is a series of epic small town standalones, each story written by a different author! If you’re in the mood to indulge in swoony small town romances don’t hesitate to pick up this series! Now let’s get to reviewing Perfect Tragedy by Jennifer Miller!
Jennifer Miller is a new to me author, I had absolutely no clue what I was getting myself into when I first picked this novel up. And given the books in the series prior to this one, I could safely assume it would have an epic happily ever after. Unlike the previous four books in the series, Perfect Tragedy only gives us one point of view and that view is from Sienna's perspective.
In Perfect Tragedy we are taken on a journey through Sienna’s whirlwind of love and heartache, and believe me when I say, It took a lot of heartache for Sienna to finally find her happily ever after. I loved the way Jennifer Miller told this story in a timeline form. We start with Sienna as a little girl meeting and crushing on the boy who just moved in next door. I loved the first love viewpoint through her little girl eyes. My heart immediately took a journey to the past and the rapid heartbeat only first love can ignite. It was easy to put myself in Sienna’s shoes during those moments. Through the years, Sienna, her brother Jack, and the boy next door Blake form a friendship that could possibly stand to the end of time.
I decided to rate Perfect Tragedy with a 3 ½ star rating and here is why:
I’m going to be honest with my thoughts on this portion of my review. I loved Sienna’s story, but there were multiple moments when I wanted a little bit more detail. I wanted more one-on-one moments between her and Blake. I feel if those moments were told, the chemistry would have been that much more special between the two of them. I wanted to see that close friendship, I wanted to feel the fragility that comes with falling in love with, not only, her older brother’s best friend, but also her best friend. Also, I’m used to reading dual points of view from both love interests… And it has to be said, I was CRAVING a look inside Blake’s mind during a few key moments. I wanted to be inside this man’s head through every moment with Sienna. I wanted to see how drastic his life changed when he joined the army. There was so much going on with this man beneath the surface. Sienna’s story was great, but with Blake’s point of view added this had great potential to be my first 5 star read of 2022…..
Overall, I was intrigued with Perfect Tragedy from start to finish. But I needed more!!! I do, however, plan to pick up a few more novels from Jennifer Miller in the near future! What can I say aside from the fact that this author has piqued my interest. Okay, I think I rambled enough for one night. If you love Small Town Romances with strong heart and feels, I highly recommend the Mason Creek Series!!!!!
I have not found a Mason Creek author yet that I haven't wanted to read more of, and Jennifer Miller is no exception. I love these characters! The ones I didn't like, she gave the fuel to feed the dislike.
The title of this book is absolutely accurate. Blake and Sienna's story is a true tragedy, by several cases of the "wrong place, wrong time." She knows that Blake is her brother’s best friend, and she also holds that title.
There has to be a way to make him see her as much more than a "little sister". Sienna feels in her heart, that her and Blake are endgame, but life always places him just out of her reach.
This one hit very close to home for me. Jennifer had me feeling all the joy and tears that were shed. While it doesn't have the spiciness that the previous books shared, the storyline more than makes up for it.
The bar just keeps getting raised. Every book has earned a place in my heart. I am in love with Mason Creek, I don't want to leave.
Falling in love with your brother's best friend is something Sienna has fought since the first day she met Blake. In fact everything in her life can be found in the time table Before Blake and After Blake. But as she gets older the feelings do not go away and when he leaves for the army she finds her one chance to tell him how she feels is lost in an instant, especially when he finds himself involved with someone else. But can you first love be your last? And will the two ever get on the same page with their feelings to find their HEA to their perfect tragedy? With loads of emotion that builds from chapter to chapter this was a fabulous addition to the Mason Cree Series. This would be one couple I would love to see years down the road.
Wow did this one bring out a few emotions I wasn’t Expecting. When Blake moved next door to Jack and Sienna as a child he made 2 lifetime friends. What he didn’t know was he and Sienna were meant for more, at least that’s what she always hoped. This is an amazing story of childhood friendship, adolescent crushes and the emotional ups and downs of adulthood. This is a well written emotional read that had me laughing out loud one minute and shedding tears the next. I enjoyed Siennas spunky friend Vanessa but felt for Jack being in the middle of Blake and Sienna. This is a multi year story that takes you on a great journey. I have truly enjoyed this series and with each book I finish I look Forward to reading the next one.
Simply beautiful!! Jennifer was a new author to me and oh my what story she wrote. Sienna was part of a trio of her brother and Blake - best of friends but she wanted more with Blake but he was happy with just being best friends but …..??? This book had me gripped from the start and I devoured it. I was sad to see it end. A truly beautiful book.
If you're looking for an emotional read with some romance but not much else, then this book is perfect for you. But if you're looking for all that plus some steamy parts, move on. I have no idea if this is a mature YA book or just a clean romance, but I was personally disappointed. For all the passion in this story, there are no sex scenes that physically capture what the characters feel for each other, and I really think this book would have benefited from at least one scene.
The angst was palpable, and while I enjoyed it, there wasn't much of a reward for all the turmoil. Angst is best served with an equal or greater amount of triumph/justice for the characters involved. This was written well, but I hated how things turned out. I'm so fucking mad at Jack for fucking up the future that Sienna and Blake could have had, and he did not even come close to apologizing enough. He completely changed the trajectory of their lives by giving Blake an ultimatum, and I want to cut off various bodyparts of his. But I will say that I'm super relieved that Hailey's daughter wasn't Blake's. I still have no fucking clue what drove him to be with Hailey even if he was "settling"; he couldn't have Sienna so he "settled" for the bitch that bullied her? What the fuck is wrong with you?!
So while this was a good read, the reunion was anticlimactic to me, and because of that, it kind of put a downer and a very unsatisfactory feeling over the whole book.

Okay, I want to get the rain why is a 3 star out. This is based on my feeling on the story line. The words were great and flowed...but, the timeliness was out of wack. It took almost to 85% for the to firm anything then it just all went super fast. One sex scene brief no details. And the epilogue just left me with more questions. It was so great I was hoping that it would be proportioned well.
This is my least favorite of the five Mason Creek books I have read. It felt weird to here a 9 year old speak of falling in love. Too much junior high memories and high school. It felt creepy to me. Once all that was over- about 60% of the book was done and it got better. The story is actually a cute story I just wasn’t into all the teen romance stuff.
Out in the small town of Mason Creek in the blissful country life of the farmlands, lives Sienna a girl of 11 with her family. Pulling out pranks with her brother and living out in the Treehouse their father made him, everything was fine Until it wasn't. That was when Sienna fell out of the treehouse to meet the boy who will someday mean more than she can imagine. Sienna's fallthrough brought her more than she can imagine, a perfect companion to him and his brother, a lifelong friend and perhaps something more which she will realize in the later years of their company.
Growing up being a part of the trio Sienna her brother Jack and Blake the bright-eyed, dark-haired boy were inseparable, in their childhood playfulness, in the hours of video gaming and their blissful ignorance. Maybe the ignorance one day morphed into the musical notes of love for Sienna, but just like every love story she never let it out of her bosom, not knowingly for sure.
It is a complete chick-flick with Sienna at the centre stage, blossoming and fulfilling her role while dealing with bullies, embarrassment, friendship and dear old green-eyed jealousy. Unknown to what lies in each other's heart both the souls are parted more than once but what lies within their heart, shall it be revealed and shall it reign their kingdom of love?
The story is written from the point of view of a girl opening up her life, and has been done amazingly. The story is warm and tingly at one point and brings sorrow at the other, reading it makes me remember all those loveliest hours of watching Hallmark movies, only with a slightly different plot and a lot less Christmas. Maybe the story seems a little predictable to me because let's face it Love stories can only be put in so many ways and years of browsing through Disney romances and Hallmark comedies at one point the flame extinguishes, but even so, the author has made quick work of imbuing it with the captivating scenes which might tingle your romantic senses if you are into the genre.
Sienna and Blake meet as children when his family moves in next door and she falls out of a tree and lands at his feet. He becomes her brother's best friend and hers too. She loves him for years as they grow up but her heart gets broken repeatedly as he appears to not reciprocate her feelings. Her graduation is the final straw and she knows he will never be hers. Can this broken man find his way to true love?
I loved the fact that this book started when they were children and retold their story not just snippets of the past from an adult prospective. I am new to this author but really enjoyed her style. I loved how strong Sienna was and no matter what happened she was determined to be ok. Blake was her protector from day 1 and even when he was away he tried to look out for Sienna and wanted her to be happy. These two have a rocky road to love but with so much past they know each other so much deeper. I am loving this series written by various authors set in the same small town with common characters.
This is the first book by Jennifer Miller that I have read, but I've read all of the other Mason Creek books. This one was written differently but I liked it a lot. We are introduced to Sienna as a 9 year old and then we follow her through school and into adulthood. My heart broke for her so many times but in the end it was worth it. This book was well written and I read it in a matter of hours. Great character development and introduction. I was able to relate to many of them and could even imagine some as friends that I had in school in real life ... bullies, besties and boyfriends. I will be reading more books by Jennifer and am extremely excited for the next MC book.
Perfect Tragedy was a story of love that no matter how many knocks it took, it held tight and true, waiting for the right moment. Blake and Sienna’s story is full of angst and will have you holding your breath as these two get close only to be ripped apart time after time. A story of nothing short of true love and fate ensuring these two finally got their chance. This was an emotional story that held my heart in its hands as I experienced the ups and downs of a soul deep love. There was heartbreak, drama, passion and tragedy. I cried, smiled, laughed and then I cried again. A story that touches your heart in such a special way that it will remain with you for a very long time.
Sienna has a crush on Blake the minute he moves into the house next door. Blake and her brother Jack become best friends and they all hang out together. As they move into their teenage years Blake dates one of Sienna's enemies who has bullied her in the past. Once Blake and Jack graduate distance creates strain in all their relationships with each other. Circumstances reunite the three several years later and the perfect tragedy is that Sienna and Blake have been kept apart when they both had feelings for each other, Some tear-jerking moments as well as humour along the way. Read an ARC for an honest review.
I actually really enjoyed this book, so much I finished it in one sitting! It was written so differently than the other MC books! This book made me feel all the feels! Happy, sad, angry, flustered. You name it I felt it! My one and only complaint is the time line! It was written in such great detail in the beginning focusing on all the early years and then wrapped up so quickly. I’m not comparing I love the ending. I absolutely loved his response to the emails and how he responded. I guess I just didn’t want it to end!!!! I hope their is a sequel so this some day! The adventures these two Will have will be worth another book!
I was going to stop reading this section of the series stories, I'm so glad I didn't. I am not usually reading books involving the children growing up, going through each section of their schooling and the trials and tribulations of boyfriend-girlfriend but....notice the but....you have to understand where it all began to get to their end. Blake and Sirenna grew up together and were best friends along with her brother. So much goes on among the three of them. It's kind of so believable this could have happened in real life. Read the book you'll understand. Plus you'll need tissues. :)
Good story but so not like the other ones in this series. I am so disappointed that at 68% we finally get them as adults. Then it takes forever for them to get together and that stupid epilogue is just for him to ask her to marry him....come on....where are the meat and potatoes for their adulthood? That is all we get is crap about thier youth....rmes....needless to say the author wrote this well for what it is. I wished I would if skipped it if I had known this is what I was getting.
This novel wrecked my heart, but then reading about a woman pining after her brother's best friend since she was a 10 year old does that sometimes. Did I mention he was also her best friend. Sienna and Blake are maddening together and don't get me started on Hailey and her antics or on Jack and his interference. The plot and characters were aligned, but the narrative was confusing. However, once the story got going the pieces fell in place and I understood what the author was attempting. Did it work? Not really because the narrative and pace of this story were out of sync.
This story is perfection! It had me hook, line and sinker from the beginning to the end. This is the first book that I have read by Jennifer Miller but it certainly won't be the last! She has a wonderful writing style that pulls you in and makes you invested in the story. I could feel Siena's feelings throughout this wonderfully told tale. Do yourself a favor and one click this book. And while you're at it you might as well go for the whole Mason Creek series!
While the writing was good. Way too much of the book was based on the past, 65% of the book was highschool heartbreak and longing. There were a couple of times names were mixed up, so I feel it could have used a better editing team I mean names are pretty important. The plot had alot that could have been built on, but the last 35% felt rushed because so much of the book was in the past. I gave it 3 stars because like I said it has potential and the writing was good.
Well written, good time and place transitions. Great OW drama. What did I dislike? That she just accepted everything and that he was feeling hurt because she cut him off. I mean… really dude? You were with the nemesis, showing her baby bump and you didn’t get why she decided to cut your off her life?
Not enough grovel. Or not grovel at all. And ultimately, the one that left him was the OW. Terrible.
My favorite in the series! It has so much angsty and sadness and a lot of heartbreaking misunterstandings. The pain the heroine goes though made me so sad for her and angry with the hero, as in one of the many times he hurts her is with a person who was always cruel to her. I adored the declarations of love and everything that they exchange in emails, it was new and charmingly romantic. Loved the epilogue, after a lot of really bad things finally some happiness!
Wow. This is a serious cryfest. This is not my scene so I won't be looking for more from this author, but it's well written. I don't like the premise and again, tear-jerkers ate never my choice on reading material. However, for those who like that sort of thing, this is probably a winner.
Ugh I really hate single POV books. I only really read this one because I wanted to read this series in order, even though they’re all standalones. I just hated the whole OW drama that was so epically drawn out. Almost whole book was unrequited love and focusing on the OW that I just didn’t care by the end of it.
Holy emotions Batman! This book is a slow burn, intense friends to lovers romance that will have your heart shattering in so many pieces so many times! There is such a build up of what could happen between Sienna and Blake that your heart is racing the whole time. I loved that there was so much build to that moment when he can finally admit how much he wanted her regardless of how broken he views himself. Sienna’s love for Blake never waivers but my heart hurt for her so much so many times. The angst and raw emotions that swirl in this book is so intense! It felt so real and just absolutely everything. It was about the journey. Absolutely great addition to the Mason Creek series!
