The last time Abby Lewis was at the beach house, she was thirteen, and everything was grand and full of potential. As her fiftieth birthday rapidly approaches, and gray mixes in with the brown of her hair, that was not the case. Maybe even the opposite. Still, being back here is already helping lift her spirits. Especially when a beachcomber wanders into her life. Yet, this isn’t a stranger, but her special summer friend from all those years ago. Someone she lost touch with but never forgot.

KC Luck graces us with a cute, no angst short story. I really enjoyed it. The chemistry was strong and an old friends to lovers story. I look forward to more books by this author.
This is a beautiful short story, of Abby and Toni who were summer best friends for three years when in their early teens. Abby, two years younger than sophisticated Toni, had a massive crush on her. Time separated them, but more than thirty years later Abby rents the beach house where she used to stay with her family. There they reconnect, and all is well.
I subscribe to the author's monthly email and this month she was giving away copies of this under 30 pages novella. During the summer two girls become friends as their families rent beach houses near each other. The story jumps forward in time a couple of decades to meeting again on the beach. One is retired from the military and the other divorced. There is just enough detail to fill in the connection and lingering feelings. I already enjoy Luck’s writing and if I only read this short story I would see her skill and want to read more of her books. Originally published 2020.
I loved this short story. A childhood crush is carried through life and a second chance to tell them they love them as they are in their fifties now. The connection, the chemistry is all still there. As Abby goes back to the beach house she remembered as a thirteen year old never in her wildest dreams did she believe she would see Toni again. The feelings still there but remembering that Toni broke her promise was swirling around her head. Were they brought back together by a higher power? A must read for a big smile.
A lovely story of two young women in love separated by fate and evil forces who reconnect after thirty years to find their love burns brighter and holds promise. (How’s that for a run on sentence) Well written and the characters were real and relatable. A good read, but too short. I enthusiastically and unequivocally recommend this and all other works by this author. Thank you Peace
4 stars. This was so beautiful and deeply romantic to be less than thirty pages. That’s talent. Toni and Abby were childhood friends who went their separate ways and haven’t seen each other in decades. They reunite at the old beach house they use to hang out at and work out their feelings. This was well written, and like I said so romantic. I couldn’t get enough. I loved the chemistry between them and how deep their connection still was after all those years.
Young love, first love, the soul kind of love can find tomorrow.
I loved this story in Summer Loving anthology. Toni and Abby got my heart and I love that they are a stand alone. KC Luck what a beautiful second chance love story. The characters so connected all these years apart was so hot. I always wanted to know what happened next but I love the story.
Another amazing and tender(HOT) story from KC! Didn’t we all have that very first crush? The one that melted our hearts in the best and worst ways ever?!? This story was absolutely beautifully written but too short! I’m always ever hopeful that we get another glimpse into Abby’s and Toni’s reignited love story. Nothing like a beach house to ignite romance.
KC Luck weaves settings like no other author. Within the confines of a short story, I found myself at the beach enjoying the salty air and feeling the wind on me.
Kindle says this story can be read in less than 30 min. but this was rejuvenating for me.
Jae's Sapphic Reading Challenge Unicorn: character over 40
3.5, a second chance lesbian romance. They last saw each other when Abby was 13 and Toni was 15. For reasons unknown to Abby, they hadn’t seen each other for 30 years. Abby returns to her old beach house at 49, not having been there since 13. The beach house that she would spend summers at and where she met Toni all those years ago. It’s only 25 pages sadly but it was sweet
Beach House was a second chance romance short novella. Two teenaged girls fell in love over 30 years ago at a time where society worked against their relationship. They meet again by coincidence and find their feelings haven't changed. Very well written with beautiful descriptions of the beach location.
I love that it’s not a twenty something that is playing volleyball at the beach- it’s realistic of divorce, bad luck, families, and everything else that makes life up. I loved that they were able to find each other and see where life takes them!
This short story very well written was so touching. A kind of second chance romance between BFFs who had not contacted each other for decades. The reason why is part of the story so I’m not going to spoil it for you.
Not my usual romance style and now I know what f/f means under this genre.
For a short story the book flowed cohesively from start to finish. For two girls to meet as teenagers and reunite 50 years later - the missing years were explained
This was a nice second chance romance set on the Oregon coast that featured an unplanned reunion between two former teenage best friends, Abby and Toni. It was a delightful short story in a beachy setting that reunited now two fifty something women.
A short story of teenagers that had feelings for each other during the summer. After years of no contact them meet again can't have a beautiful summer together
Two friends find each other again at the Beach House written by K.C. Luck. Thirty years may have gone by that has not stopped the feelings left over from summer crushes that were never spoken of. Luck brings the sparks to Abby and Toni, proving that love can come later in life and that we do get second chances.
One of the sweetest stories I have ever read! I love how surprising life can be and this story really demonstrates a twist. Plus who doesn't love women in their 50's connecting? Thanks so much KC!
