Alien Quarantine Rescue #2

Cyborg Quarantine Bodyguard

Rate this book
He was sent to protect me. But what does he want in return?
A fierce, enormous, cyborg alien lands in my yard and creates a force field, trapping us inside. He’s bigger and scarier than the Terminator, but I need him to fight off my enemies. Without him, I’ll be a goner for sure.

Except he looks at me like I belong to him. And he guards my house like I’m his to protect.

My friends say if I have sex with him, he’ll give me antibodies to the virus with his vibrating...yeah. But all I can think is that if I let him in my house, he could give me Beerona Virus. I could be dead in three days.

I’ve been in quarantine so long, though. Even though he terrifies me, I want him.

Should I take the risk?

This is a quote from the book itself: “I’m lust crazed for an alien cyborg and might be pregnant with his baby and I need his antibodies and want his cock so bad, I’m not sure I care, but if I don’t want to have a baby I have to go to space for an abortion!”
In case you were wondering what this series is about.

I love Robin Lovett's writing (Planet of Desire #3 is probably my favorite Alien Erotica book).

What you should know: this is Erotica. Sex comes first, romantic feelings are there but honestly the love is rarely very convincing. So if you're used to Alien Romance where the leads have romantic dates or long conversations before engaging in bed gymnastics ... this ain't it. The two leads in this one are insta-hot for each other and jump into bed in the first quarter of the book. This isn't a bad thing, I just figured readers should know that this genre is slightly different from what Ruby Dixon and other established Alien ROMANCE authors write.

Also, there's the half-serious,half-parody pandemic setting (complete with a unhinged fascist motorcycle gang government with nuclear weapons; yeah, it's nuts.) which might turn people off.

So, just like its predecessor, this over-the-top sexfest was less to my taste than Lovett's Planet of Desire books. But it was mindless fun and I did read this on day 1, which tells you how much I anticipated this.

A note on Lovett as an author: while Lovett focusses on writing long sex scenes instead of building a relationship between her characters, she has a decent handle on her characters. They always go through an emotional development, and I enjoy the fact that the development is always a personal one. Instead of letting her characters go from "I can't be with this person" to "I love them so much uwu", they have problems outside of romance that they have to work through.

I don't know if this book is for you, because it is very niche and many people might not want to read about pandemics during a pandemic, but if not, maybe Lovett's other alien books might be up your alley.

Before reading:
You'd think a book with a title like "Cyborg Quarantine Bodyguard" would never qualify as a day 1 read for anyone with great taste in books.

You'd be wrong.

I have great taste in books and I will start this at midnight!

There's really no rhyme or reason to liking these books. I probably should be horrified, disgusted, etc by some of the stuff that goes on...but I'm not. Hahaha. They are so crazy they make me smile, make me laugh...and most importantly, they give my brain a rest. There's no heavy complicated plots, no heavy angst...just pure, sexy fun. Amd seriously, sometimes that's all you need.

Lovett has a way of making you look up from the page and think, 'did that just happen?' The off-the-wall story plays off relatable, realistic characters in a way that is both escapist and directly tied to the world we live in today. I mean, a huge chunk of this world was wiped out by the Beerona virus. That's the kind of real world + silly fun it goes for.

As much as I'm here for the escapism and bananapants plot the tropes didn't land in my direction. I'm still processing how I feel about power exchange being used to manage crippling anxiety, and heads up for discussions about motherhood (not wanting to be a mother, wanting to be a mother but unable to). Not bad things - I think some readers will love the heck out of these tropes - but they're not for me.

A diverting way to spend an evening, but it didn't impact me as much as book one. The world is more than interesting enough to pull me back for book three though.

Content notes: anxiety including panic attacks, consensual non-consent, chronic pain (non-human character), mentions of infertility, medicalized settings and situations, mentions of death and war

Robin Lovett never disappoints! Her BANANAS stories are unique, fun, and super steamy! This is the second book in this series, and I enjoyed it so much.

Alina has been stuck at home, alone in the desert, for the last 5 years, after a virus took out most of the world's population. She and her few friends who are still alive, keep in touch electronically as they can have no in person contact for fear of the virus. When an alien landed in her friend Ellie's yard a few days before and Ellie let him into her house, Alina thought her anxiety for her friend would kill her. But, after it all works out, and Ellie is now immune to the virus, Alina is wishing for her own alien to swoop in to her rescue. She has no idea how much she's actually going to need rescuing. Or how much she'll come to care for the one who saves her.

Doom has a degenerative condition, and has had to have some of his body parts replaced with machines, like a cyborg. His people had to abandon their dead planet, and now his people are dying too. They each have some issue that is killing them, some more quickly than others. Doom's condition is unfortunately a very bad one. When he is sent to Earth to help protect Ellie's friend, Alina, he has no idea that she is the one who can save him. She's his DNA match, and her blood can cure his condition. In return, he can give her immunity to the virus that killed most of her people. But first, he has to convince her, through her massive amount of fear and anxiety, that she can trust him.

Alina and Doom's connection was FIRE from the first moment, though Alina didn't know how to admit it to herself, which is why their roleplaying worked so well for her. Their chemistry was wild, and the connection they forged was quick but solid. I enjoy the aliens and the world the author has built for them. It's a totally unique storyline, and I love it!

It was great getting to see all the characters from book 1, and a few more too! I believe the next book is set up to be Charley's, and I'm VERY intrigued by her predicament. Also, there were a few other seeds sewn here for potential future storylines, which is awesome. I never want this series to end!

CONTENT WARNING for Consensual Non-Consent, heroine with Anxiety disorder

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. This review is my personal opinion, voluntarily given.

Super steamy, absolutely ridiculous, great fun, unputdownable. I didn’t love how the FMC’s anxiety was handled but this is fantasy/world building so realism isn’t really what it’s about. There was some power exchange and consensual non-consent which was very steamy, and talk about wanting children and infertility.

I wish this had just been a hot bananas book but the plot took it in directions that gave me major reservations. Alina has major anxiety. Doom is dying due to a genetic defect which causes his body to consume itself, resulting in extreme pain. He learns Alina is not only his mate but his DNA match, meaning his blood can save him. But he never tells her, which means

I did enjoy the severed heads scene, which has to be a nod to Immortals After Dark. That’s the kind of element that kept me turning the pages, despite my reservations about the rest. I also liked that Alina and Doom decided not to have kids, which made for creative sexy times when they didn’t have access to birth control.

The epilogue is from the FMC of the next book, who will be paired with someone whose mind has deteriorated, due to neurological defects, to the point of animal instinct and requires being locked up in a cage. I was concerned about this premise when it was raised as a possibility in the first book and I’ll probably skip that one.

Content notes: anxiety, panic attack, chronic pain due to genetic defect, dying MC (saved), blood donation to save MC’s life, internalized ableism, Magical Disability/Mental Illness Cure, seizure, rape fantasy, consensual nonconsent, MMC’s body is consuming itself due to genetic defect and he’s now half mechanical parts, Beerona pandemic killed more than half the world’s population in 6 months, consensual slut-shaming, murder in self-defense (military operatives who attack FMC’s house), severed heads, MMC puts a piece of his heart in a locket for the mating ceremony, family planning discussion (MMC initially wants to have kids but FMC does not, he eventually comes around and agrees with her), pregnant secondary character, sex on page, internalized kink shaming, anal sex, artificial insemination (secondary character), minor character’s mind has deteriorated and must be kept in a cage, alien race with fatal genetic defect, ableist language, father left when she was 6

Cyborg Quarantine Bodyguard is a fascinating and intoxicating second book in this alien quarantine series. I never know what to expect, but I am beyond satisfied with what I found in this fun and exciting new adventure. I am taken out of my head for a few hours which is as close to Heaven as I can get these days. No matter what I find within these pages, I know I will encounter belonging, joy, love, and above all deep friendship. These alone keep me coming back for more!

Alina needs to be protected and who better to lend his skills then Doom. He name truly says it all. He is Doom to those to want to hurt Alina. Once he realize who she is to him, nothing and no one will ever hurt her again. She on the other hand isn't sure what to do about her new volunteer bodyguard. He isn't what she expected, but truthfully, she doesn't know what she expected. She just hoped to live long enough to see her friends once more time. When feelings worm their way in and their relationship morphs into something wholly unexpected, can she run and hide in oeder to keep things the way they have always been, or will Doom convince her to face what her heart is screaming for?

Doom and Alina make quite the shocking and yet intriguing pair. She is more special then she can ever guess, and he has captured her heart by his gentle yet persistent ways. For a cyborg, Doom knows what is most important in life, and he won't let Alina miss out on those things. He will fight for her and for them no matter what happens. Alina finally gets something she has been without for years and yet is too terrified to grab hold of. However, I love how her issues don't deter Doom at all. In fact, they urge him on to help her out in any and every way he can. He is truly perfect for her, and she is truly his savior in more ways then one.

Robin Lovett is having fun with this imaginative yet exciting series! She knows how to coax her readers to try something new, and low and behold they fall in love with it. I know I have. I love this amazing new world and its fabulous new characters. I can't wait for Charley's story next! I am dying to know how these two navigate things since they just discovered the other. What a fun way to spend some time breathing deep and taking care of myself.

Full disclosure: the author sent me an ARC and asked for an honest review. Also full disclosure: I'm a HUGE fan of Robin Lovett's stories; she's an auto-buy for me.

One thing I love about Lovett's stories is their nuanced exploration of bodily autonomy and the role of sex/lust in our culture as well as individuals' lives. In the worlds she's built in her books, the characters have no choice (for romance reasons) but to succumb to epic bang-a-thons. What would it mean if you had to fuck a stranger to survive? How does that change your attitude about sex and your body hang-ups and contraception? How do your inhibitions and cultural baggage come into play? How does your mental health come into play?

It may sound serious if you've never read a Lovett book, but the author couches this exploration in the most fantastical and downright dirrrrrty ways. In this series, in particular, the alien men are smokin' hot, their dicks vibrate, and their spunk tastes like glittery, sugary magic. They may feel like alphas at times, but ones who feel their emotions, embrace love and commitment, and want nothing more than to spend the rest of their lives worshipping their fated mates. Doom, the cyborg of the title of this book, even brings the heroine the severed heads of her enemies. So sweet! I gobbled up this book in one sitting and I can't wait for the next book. I highly recommend it!

I have two little content warnings about this book:
1. The heroine suffers from an anxiety disorder (which is beautifully and realistically depicted.) But that means that some readers such as myself who also struggle with anxiety might feel every little bit of anxiety along with the heroine. In some scenes, it was a lot. A LOT. I often choose not to read heroines with anxiety because it bleeds off onto me while I read, but I found this book manageable, fyi. So, prepare yourself before diving if that's something that might affect you.
2. The hero and heroine explore consent games. As in, role playing being taken by force. They do it in a very respectful way, with a safe word and ground rules established up front as well as mid-game check-ins for safety. But if that's something that triggers you, this might not be your book.

This series is absolutely bananas, but it is completely saved by knowing that it's bananas and just going for it without apology. It treats every character with humanity and tenderness and the sex scenes advance character development while remaining high heat. Doom, the hero of this story, is more of a Byronic hero and I found him highly sympathetic. This book treats the heroine's mental illness with straightforwardness and compassion, with no hint of judgement or stigma.

Major kudos to Robin Lovett for writing Alpha heroes with incredible sexual need and skill and stamina who also respect autonomy and consent. This book includes a perfectly depicted act of , which is not only sexy but also completely in character for the heroine. The way that Doom just went "well, it's what she wants, so it's what she gets" and rolled with it was beautiful. I also appreciated the sensitive way that reproductive choices were handled throughout the book.

You do have to get over the "what on earth am I reading" factor, and accept the camp for what it is, but once you do this is a well crafted escapist read.

Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cyborg Quarantine Bodyguard by Robin Lovett

He was sent to protect her, but what does he want in return? A cyborg Alien lands in her yard, creates a force field trapping us inside and fight the enemies threatening her life. She can't survive without him. Even though he terrifies her, letting him in might be the best thing she'll ever do.

CW: Quarantine (present time), anxiety & panic attack.

This book delivered on all it's promises. Insta-love romance with fiery sex, s*e*x toys and consensual non-consent play, magic fluids that gives her the much needed antibodies to the virus.

If you are looking for something realistic, and complex this is not it. But if you just cried your eyes out in a previous read and your heart needs some insta-gratification and a vibrating p*enis this is it. I started by the second in the series and I understood the story, but some characters come back and for more than an appearance. I loved how close the friends still were after years in isolation, how they found coping mechanism together and ways to care and love for each other even from afar.

Thank you to my lovely friend Maria @the.book.dish for suggesting this one!

I wanted something steamy, weird, and kind of bonkers, and this was perfect. Utterly unbelievable, but no less charming or compelling because of it. It’s a long novella and the second in a series (which is read as a stand alone) and just delightfully silly. There has been a pandemic ravaging earth for five years, that prevents people from interacting at all, and guess what? The aliens have the cure, and it’s in their bodily fluids. The aliens are all dying, and finding DNA matches among humans means they can recover from the various things that ail them. Through in fated mates, and it’s a recipe for lots of alien sex. A lot. Gotta get enough fluids for the antibodies. Through in some consensual non-consent, a fair amount of oral and butt stuff, and finally, the heroine can visit her friends again. Plus fall in love with the dying cyborg alien who came to defend her from the fascist government, and brought her their heads after ripping them from their bodies, and it’s a surprisingly sweet, tender romance. Weird, but totally recommend.

This book came out the same day as my second dose vaccination. Coincidence? Yes. But appropriate.
Sadly I didn’t like it as much as the first bonkers book in the series. I don’t think this one works as a standalone - there’s some world building in this but not much compared to the first book.
My main beef is there were so many plot points that just never really got explored as fully as they needed to. They just did not matter in the end. And it wasn’t even because there was so much sex it smothered the plot - I felt like there was less sex than the first book.
I did enjoy the hero being a cyborg, but again not really fully explored. The heroine’s anxiety seemed like a minor stumbling block at most. I did like that she said she didn’t want to get pregnant right away and that was totally fine.
Will I buy the next book? Yes probably because I love bonkers romance.

Alien Erotic Romance // HEA // mates // CNC -> primal kink // pandemic induced loneliness// crippling anxiety (FMC) // chronic pain (MMC) // fertility issues, planned parenthood

This book is bonkers in the best way. At the end I thought “what did I just read?” But also? I loved it. It was a fun ride. Fyi, the FMC has extremely crippling anxiety and to read it definitely agitated my own a bit. I sympathized. I liked the duality of her feelings for Doom: fear of his appearance but also desire as they are soul bound mates. A truly interesting love story that takes place amidst an earthly pandemic that decimated the population and caused governments to fail. Not only do these aliens possess a little something that gives humans antibodies to fight the virus, but humans possess the ability to save them right back. A delightful easy read you can do in an evening.

Safe Word

A first I didn’t like Alina very much. She appeared to be a scared user who just took what her Cyborg bodyguard Doom had to give. Doom knew exactly what she needed and helped to make her a little more likable. And my opinion had nothing to do with her disorder either. She was just selfish. I admired Doom, he was all kinds of sexy. The series is really getting good and I can’t wait to read Charley’s story and find out if they ever find Gretchen.

This book was better than the first in the series. It was half the pages, and half the cringe. I really enjoyed the anxiety rep, and I thought the romance was good. It still isn't anything special to me. There's still issues with the writing. However, I am enjoying the stories and plot. I especially want to read Charley and Fang's story because I feel like it will be different from the others. I hope that this series continues to get better.

The first book in this series was a bit overwhelming for me, but I really loved the relationship and all the sex. This one is the same, but less. It was less overwhelming which was nice, but I didn't love the relationship as much. The sex scenes were still fire though. Robin Lovett will never let me down in that respect.

The America in this story was a little too easy to imagine, considering the year it was published in, but I enjoyed reading a tale where the aliens and humans each had something of value to give the other. Oh, and the love scenes were hot!

Alina is quiet and anxious. Enter Doom, the cyborg, and she’s masterbating while watching him guard her house. Some great consensual non-consent fantasy stuff here.

I cannot want for Charley & Fang’s book!!!

Another gem from Robin Lovett! Doom was a sweet and doting H and Alina was a relatable h. I particularly appreciated the accuracy of Alina’s anxiety battle. Can’t wait for book 3!

I enjoyed book 2 but didn't like the new couple as much as book 1. It was entertaining, fun(ny), and spicy, and I'll continue the series. They're quick reads.
