MIss Wetherham's Wedding (2021, Lilliput Press) is third in The Brides of Mayfair series by Linore Rose Burkard. It's a standalone Regency romance, set in London in 1803 and 1806. This book is, at the time of this writing, available in the Kindle Unlimited program.

The heroine: Miss Wetherham, or more accurately, Mrs. Lettie Wetherham, is a widow who intends to never marry again, because her marriage was a very happy one. She just can't imagine marrying again. This book is Miss Wetherham's second romance.
The hero: The odious, despicable Mr. Nicholas Dellacort - or rather his pride - has been hurt by an earl usurping his position as beau to the lovely Sophia. Mr. Dellacort wishes for Miss Wetherham to disrupt the newly formed engagement between his former ladylove and his rival.
Christian elements: This book is written by a Christian author, but it's not Christian fiction. I'd say that any reader of secular historical fiction who is used to God and/or prayer being mentioned a couple of times in a historically appropriate way would be comfortable with this book.
Is it clean/chaste? Extremely, with one caveat. There was a brief mention of Miss Wetherham and her husband in the prologue which is more than I'd prefer for my daughter's reading material, but there wasn't anything really detailed. "Earlier in their bedchamber, she'd savored each second of their union, the feel of his lean body against hers, the meeting of heart, mind, and soul that happened during the mystery of joining as man and wife." There are also a few kisses later in the book, but again, it's very tastefully written and avoids "steamy clean" territory, which I very much appreciate. I will be recommending this book to my 15-year-old daughter.
Other content issues: I don't remember any violence or swearing, nor any substitute swears. I can't … ahem… swear to it, but that's what I'm remembering.
What I liked: The chemistry between the hero and heroine was just right for me, and in my… ahem... book, that's always the most important thing in a romance! Another thing I appreciate is that Ms. Burkard's books are always very well-edited, and she obviously does her Regency homework.
I also liked the material at the end of the book. Ms. Burkard's Regency glossary is extremely readable because of the way that it was presented with interesting little details, some which were a surprise to me, a seasoned Regency reader. I enjoyed it, and I'd especially recommend the glossary to a new reader of Regencies.
There are also many "outtakes" at the end, which is something I've never seen in a book before - that is, unless you count Choose Your Own Adventure books. To me, this feature was a gold mine. I have no aspirations of being a fiction writer, as I'm not creative enough, but I just love hearing about an author's processes for writing, decision-making, publishing, and even marketing. I hope that Ms. Burkard includes such outtakes in future books as well. In this particular book, some of the scenes made it clear she was previously considering a different path to the main character's HEA (happily ever after).
What I didn’t like: This doesn't really even count as a dislike of mine, but I think it's worth mentioning here that the book ended at about 75%. So I didn't have an accurate idea of how close I was to the end. To be fair, it wasn't a total shock, because it really did look like the story was wrapping up. And the content at the end was definitely worthwhile - see the section above - and I'm very glad the author included it.
Audiobook: I would really like to see Ms. Burkard's books available on Audible!

I enjoyed this Regency for its likable characters, twisty plot, and smiles. The language is appropriate for the era and I appreciated the chance to learn a few new phrases, including a new use for "tulip" which was included in the helpful glossary.
I love the beautiful cover but, inside the covers, the reader will also enjoy word pictures of Regency clothing and houses. The descriptions are not long or boring but steep you in the historical story world.
The publisher gave me a free ebook and this is my honest review.
Highly recommended for fans of Jane Austen, Erica Vetch, and Julie Klassen.

Miss Wetherham, or Lettie as she is often referred to, is a widow and a matchmaker but her compensation for doing that is meager. In this Regency period, she is in need financially. Enter Mr. Dellacort. He enlists Lettie and his request unsettles her because it violates her conscience, so she sets a high price, but to her dismay Dellacort meets it. This reminds me of an artist friend who didn’t want to sell his painting at a local show which required him to have a price. He set a high price, and someone bought it anyway.
The reader of Ms. Burkard’s novel will love Miss Wetherham and warm up to Mr. Dellacort. These two characters are well portrayed and supported by a cast of other men and women. The get-togethers are quite interesting and Lettie is put into situations that make her uncomfortable. She thinks each happening will be the last, only to have Dellacort to come up with one more scheme that involves her.
Will there be an end to his schemes so that Lettie can finally have a conclusion to the disturbing episodes she is pushed into?
I highly recommend this Regency novel with clean romance. Ms. Burkard continues to craft excellent stories for this time period and her endings are always pleasing.

Miss Wetherham’s Wedding was absolutely delightful from the first page to the last. And by LAST, I mean the VERY, VERY end after the out takes! After enjoying this totally charming romance, you get invited to an intimate, behind the scenes look at our beloved characters in snippets that DIDN’T make it into the book. In every instance, I agreed with the edit, but it was so much fun reading the alternate scenes, scenarios, and endings, as well as descriptive bits that just got cut. I loved how Nick and Lettie (Miss Wetherham) are so alive in their story, that pull you right into their dilemma (mostly of Nick’s making)... but then, Nick does a pretty good job of pulling everyone into his scheme! Aaannd. Hmm. In order to avoid any spoilers to this fantastic plot and romance, I will stop right here! Just know that Miss Wetherham’s Wedding is a MUST READ from cover to cover!

When Lettie Wetherham's husband died, she's forced to rely on her skills as a matchmaker to make a living. But the money isn't exactly rolling in and she finds herself almost destitute.
It's this desperation that forces her to make a deal with Nick Dellacourt who wants to use her services to regain the attention of Sophia, the woman he had been courting but who is now betrothed to another man.
Miss Wetherham's Wedding was a fun read. Lettie was an adorable character. I liked how forthcoming she was and how difficult it must have been for her to agree to do what Nick wanted. But a woman without a fortune or a husband had few choices during that time.
Lettie's attempts to flirt with Elson were as amusing as were his attempts to feign an attachment to her. It was obvious from the beginning that Nick was drawn to Lettie though he continued to profess an interest in Sophia. I would have enjoyed it more if his angst had been more evident but I still enjoyed this book.
The faith element was faint and was mostly seen Lettie's mention of reading the prayer book and praying.
The themes in Miss Wetherham's Wedding seems to have been that love can't be forced and that you can't choose the person you'll fall in love with. The four characters who were highlighted in this book may have wished they had more control over their love lives, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

This charming novel takes into the best salons in Regency London where high born ladies find their future husbands. Miss Wetherham, however, made a love match, marrying her childhood sweetheart. But early in their marriage he was killed in the diamond mine which was to ensure their fortune. Now, an almost penniless widow, Lettie arranges matches for young women who need help. Never before has she received a request to extract a lady from the person she has chosen, but this time she is offered a substantial sum and is assured that it is in the interest of everyone involved. Her client, Nick Dellacort, has a reputation as a heartbreaker and he seems determined to organise her life and fortune. Trying hard to resist she finds herself drawn into his plot and falling for his charms even though he cares for another woman.
The story is fast moving and Lettie is an endearing character, still faithful to her husband’s memory. She tries to do the best for everyone. Does Nick deserve her loyalty? The authentic period feel, gorgeous costume descriptions and mixture of characters make this an enjoyable read.

How fun! I enjoyed this book; the characters had a great deal of depth and a chemistry that was so entertaining. Nick is entirely loveable--in that rapscallion, slightly twisted sort of way. Lettie is all that is prim and proper--until Nick gets under her skin. Throw in a scandalous proposal to "unmake" the match between a couple that can't decide if they are together for love or social advancement and you now have a very diverting read!
This was clean, but had enough spice to make is worthwhile (and seriously, Nick was sigh-worthy). I think this may have been my favorite of the three simply because I liked Nick so much (I know, I know, I said that about book 2 as well, but this one is my NEW favorite). Definitely try this one; you won't regret it!

Miss Wetherham’s Wedding is the third book in the Brides of Mayfair series by Linore Rose Burkard set in London in the early nineteenth century. Having been left a widow at a fairly young age, Lettie Wetherham’s future is anything but secure, especially as she expresses no desire to marry again.
Nicholas Dellacort’s nose is out of joint because Sophia Alden’s father has accepted an offer for her hand from the much wealthier Lord Elston, Earl Brest instead of him. Learning of Lettie’s reputation as a matchmaker, he hires her to disrupt the engagement but things do not go according to plan. Lettie is well out of her comfort zone as Nick promises that each awkward encounter will be the last but, due to her dire financial situation, she really has no choice but to carry on.
The characters are well developed and the chemistry between them makes for some amusing conversations. The authentic period feel of London during the season is convincing, obviously the result of a lot of research, and the helpful glossary is useful for filling in any gaps in the reader’s knowledge. I have read a lot of Regency novels, but still learned some new expressions. I really enjoyed Miss Wetherham’s Wedding and now plan to go back and read the second one in the series.

Alright readers, if you are picking up a book titled Miss Wetherhan’s Wedding, the third in a series called The Brides of Mayfair, complete with cover art depicting a pretty blond in a period gown, you know what you’re here for.
Not as steamy as a Julia Quinn, not as sexless as an Austen, Burkhard strikes a nice balance with her characters and settings, and that’s exactly how I would describe this one. Nice. There’s a rake, there’s a heroine in a jam, there’s a meddling spinster and a scheme that we all know is going to go awry.
There are stakes, of course there are stakes—reputations might be ruined, someone might have to (gasp) leave London, and someone might enter a loveless marriage, but come on guys. We all know how this ends.
If you’re looking for mystery and tense, upper-crust intrigue, this isn’t exactly it, but, if you’re looking for a nice little read on a sunny afternoon, Miss Wetherham’s Wedding might just be your cup of tea.

Linore Rose Burkard got my attention in the Prologue and kept it all the way to the end of the Epilogue. I found the well-developed characters and their actions and interactions interesting and I truly liked both Lettie (aka Miss Wetherham) and Nick. I don't want to give away any of the plot, but there are some surprising twists in it that I loved.
If you're looking for a thoroughly enjoyable, clean historical romance, Miss Wetherham's Wedding is just what you need. I would gladly read more of this series if it's continued and definitely more by this author. Her writing style really appeals to me. It lets the story flow very well.

I enjoyed Miss Wetherham’s Wedding immensely. I was swept into the regency era of London and the lives of Lettie Wetherham, widow, and Nick Dellacort, scoundrel. These two characters are engaging and a joy to get to know. If you enjoy reading sweet, clean romance from the regency era, then this is a must read!

The scheme's success depends on Miss Wetherham - will she work with Mr. Dellacort to pull yet one more wedding out of thin air?

The third in a series, each one has been delightfully original. The story is about a strange but plausible situation. It's set in a very specific period of the regency with lots of attention to detail. Thoroughly enjoyable with realistic characters, although it didn't have ending I expected.

What a wonderful story I loved every bit of it from the first page It was beautiful written and kept you interested l have not read anything by this author before and I hope to see more

Life finally slowed just enough to curl up in a chair with this highly entertaining read, and I promptly devoured most of it in a day!
This was a lively and fun read, filled with lots of moments to smile or chuckle over. It kept my attention the entire way through. I loved Lettie, and felt her helplessness as matters of the heart warred against the needs of her pocketbook. She was so sweet, and Nick was truly a rogue - so obliviously selfish, and yet ultimately helpless as well.
Definitely recommended for fans of Regency Romance!

Linore Rose Burkard’s newest novel, Miss Wetherham’s Wedding, is a sweet historical addition in her Brides of Mayfair series. This tale will take you back in time to Regency England, where class and reputation were highly valued in marriage and social connections. This author has a talented gift of writing a historical novel as if she lived in the time period. Her descriptions and dialogue are realistic and authentic to the time period and her character. A truly delightful read.

Widowed Lettie Wetherham is a member of the ton, but her circumstances have become such that she is now helping young women who have gone beyond their season with no match as a matchmaker. Nicholas Dellacort is in love with Miss Sophia Alden but has been out trumped by Elston, the Earl of Brest. So Nicholas hires Lettie to catch Elston's attention, while he attempts to woo back Miss Alden.
From start to finish, this regency romance is filled with high jinx, humor, and wonderful characters. I especially liked the way that both Lettie and Nicholas learned more about themselves and what they really wanted from life. Money became secondary and love became more important.
The author used an omniscient POV and did an expert job as the story flowed beautifully, and it made each character seem much more realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed all 3 of the books in this series.

This is a Must Read book!! It's well written and holds you attention. The story has just enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. This book was an absolute joy to read!

March 28, 2021I highly recommend Miss Wetherham’s Wedding. It was so entertaining that I couldn’t put it down. I found the characters charming and the turns in the story kept me on my toes!! This is surely a BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN, MUST READ!!!

Light Regency fiction at its best.
I love the Jane Austen style of this light Regency romance. The fascinating language and customs of the era are woven into the fabric of the story, pulling the reading into the milieu of the time and place. At first, I found the omnipotent point of view challenging, but it adds to the book’s charm. The story is full of romance and intrigue leading the reader through a tangled web to a very satisfying ending. While the resolution is not unexpected, the journey is worth the read. I recommend this book to any readers who love Jane Austen and light Regency fiction.

I eagerly awaited this next book by Burkard and wasn't disappointed with another journey into English society in the Regency period.
This is not a story about some young lady entering society and finding matrimonial bliss, but of one who has married and faces misfortune, manipulation and uncertainty. The challenges to her character make this a compelling story I truly enjoyed; one that entertains throughout.

This is not your typical regency read. With a surprising foundational twist, Linore Rose Burkard continues the Brides of Mayfair series that will keep you reading into the wee hours. I found it to be clean, witty, intriguing and a perfect read for this season. As a protagonist, Miss Wetherham's strength as she faces adversity and challenges is admirable and encouraging. The anticipation for book three of the trilogy is confirmed.

Miss Wetherham's Wedding is a wonderful tale of love most unexpected. Who is fooling whom? Matchmaking came easy for Lettie, until she encountered the arrogant Nick Dellacort. His proposed scheme may have come at the best time, monetarily, but would it be morally wrong?
I loved this story. It was quite entertaining and left me smiling.

I loved Miss Wetherham's Wedding. I loved the back and forth between Lettie and Nick and found it to be comedic at times. I was hoping Nick would turn out to be the "good guy" Steven wished for Lettie. Read this beguiling romance to find out how all the twists and turns between the characters end and find out if Lettie finds the "good guy."

As always, I very much enjoy this author’s stories! This one was no exception. Clean and sweet but with enough twists and turns to leave the reader wanting more! Highly recommend and look forward to Lenore’s next Brides of Mayfair novel!

When she meets the scoundrel Nick Dellacourt, he makes an offer she can't refuse. Literally. Nick is flush with cash and has an ax to grind, and Lettie, well, she needs to eat. The two form a partnership that could wreck havoc on both their lives, and especially their hearts.
Miss Wetherham's Wedding is the third installment of Ms. Burkard's lively BRIDES OF MAYFAIR series. All the books in the series are fun romps into Regency London. Unlike many writers of this genre, Ms. Burkard actually plops the reader right down in the middle of the action with attention to detail that brings the story to life. I heard the music and the rustling of gowns as beautifully dressed lades swept across dance floors. I felt the anguish of the plainer--or poorer--maidens still "on the shelf" after several seasons. And mostly, I experienced the flush of romance and budding love as Lettie struggled to move past the loss of her beloved Stephen and into the rest of her life.
Lovers of Jane Austen and the Regency Era genre will swoon over Miss Wetherham's Wedding, a fun, engaging story with well-developed characters, a devilish hero you just have to love, and a corkscrew plot that makes the reader wonder if there is any way out. I so much enjoyed Miss Wetherham’s Wedding (The Brides of Mayfair, Book Three)! This novel was so much fun and kept you guessing right up until the end with plenty of twists! Miss Wetherham, a widow with a talent for matchmaking but no interest in romance for herself, finds herself in plenty of trouble when she agrees to help Nick, a gentleman who gives her an offer she can’t refuse. Miss Wetherham has been barely making a living through the gifts given by thankful parents of those she’s helped in the past but knows she can’t continue on those offerings. Nick steps in with a job for her and before she’s thought through the consequences, she’s agreed to help. Once she’s realized her mistake, she can’t seem to find a way to make it right. No matter what she tries, the mess just seems to get bigger and messier! Miss Wetherham is a believable and relatable character, and over the course of the book, she became like a new-found friend, as I found myself empathizing with her predicament, myself having more than once spoken too quickly, then having to figure out how to make things work! Nick and the other main characters were all well-developed and interesting, with very unexpected ways of handling the situations in which Miss Wetherham found herself. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it would all turn out! If you like good, clean fiction, especially those that will have you trying to figure out how anything will ever work out for our heroine, you will LOVE this book!

If you’re a fan of high society scandal, plot twists you didn’t see coming, and clean, well-written period drama, Miss Wetherham’s Wedding is the book for you! Follow Nick and Lettie as they master the art of deception (and flirtation) in an attempt to win back the attention of a lost suitor.
Linore Rose Burkard’s Before The Season Ends is one of my all-time favorite regency novels (check out The Regency Trilogy to read all three of her novels in the series), but ashamedly, I had never read any of her books outside of the trilogy. It was with much excitement (and a little trepidation, lest the author let me down) that I dug into Miss Wetherham’s Wedding, the third book in her Brides of Mayfair series. Miss Wetherham’s Wedding was a very different story in a lot of ways - I was a bit disappointed that there was no talk of salvation in the book when The Regency Trilogy seems to center around the subject, but the story was clean and avoided detailing anything outside of kissing. I appreciated that it was a standalone book within a series so I didn’t have to read the previous books in the series to understand or enjoy the novel. It written in a way that had me on the edge of my seat just waiting to find out what would happen next - and before I knew it, the book was over (and I was sad that it was)! It’s safe to say that Burkard did not let me down with her Miss Wetherham’s Wedding!

When Lettie Wetherham's husband dies tragically in an accident, she is left alone with very little income. Since she has a talent for matchmaking, Lettie helps young girls find a husband, and she is usually given a monetary or useful gift for her efforts. When Nicholas Dellacort offers a substantial amount of money to Lettie if she will help him win back Miss Sophia Alden from the titled Lord Elston, Lettie reluctantly agrees. She needs the money, after all. What ensues is a relationship neither Lettie or Nicholas planned for, as well as complications to the plan no one saw coming.
Misunderstandings and machinations abound in this delightful Regency romance. I enjoyed the witty banter and almost palpable chemistry between Nick and Lettie throughout the book. The author kept me guessing as to what would happen next up until the very end, even though I had a general idea of the outcome. This was just the sort of fun book I needed at this time, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys clean romance, historical fiction, and a light hearted story.
