UFOs, Area 51, and Government Informants: A Report on Government Involvement in UFO Crash Retrievals

Rate this book
This is one of the most important books ever written on the clandestine world of the UFO cover-up. Grant Cameron and Scott Crain do more than demonstrate the reality of an extraterrestrial presence on Earth. Through tenacious investigation and impeccable research, they shine a light into the CIA, NSA, Air Force, Navy, and other inside groups that have managed this secret for decades. Their conclusion is inescapable and this is a secret that the insiders themselves struggle to understand and contain. "Government agencies, at various times, perceive a need to release some UFO information to the public. Some, definitely not all. How do they do it? Always via avenues that leave no one at risk. That means ensuring there is no direct connection between the agency and whomever is doing the actual releasing. It also means the necessity of mixing in some false information. It means, ultimately, to tell the truth, but tell it with a slant. Until there is a full disclosure of the UFO/ET reality, deniability will remain paramount to those in possession of this great secret." - By the authors, from the book's Introduction.

The author is a promoter of what is now called the disclosure hypothesis. According to this conjecture, unofficial channels from the governement or the establishment, people generally in places that they know about sensitive subjects, are distributing look alike official documents who says the obvious, that extraterrestrials exist and they have arrived on earth. After careful analysis this supposed evidence crambled on the hands of the investigators so there must be a reason for their existence in the first place. According to this scenario, people in places of power with all this "corroboration" about underground bases, treatments with extraterrestrials and so on, are trying to prepare the public for the announcement of the aliens. This is an old scenario that exists almost from the beginning of the phenomenon and playing with the preparedness of the public against a general distress facing an alien intelligence. The main problem with this attitude is that with all this information-disinformation going around in so many places of the public, when the time will come who is going to believe? It's like the old saying call wolf many times and in the end nobody cares. If you want answers about the Ufo phenomenon you must seek elswhere.

Not sure why I ordered this book. It must have been an X-File moment…

Notes:
• Why would the US military not have discussed UFOs? But UFO does not necessarily mean extra-terrestrial!
• Chapter 2 is too long and for me a jumble.
95: Chapter 3: The Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA)
https://www.ida.org/
• @IDA_org
101: Chapter 4: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
103: IN 1949, the Soviets detonated their first atomic bomb…
• How did they do it so quick?
117: The author of this book could find no official documents linking a Jason meeting to a flying saucer recovery operation. But this does not mean that meetings did not occur….
• Nor does it mean that it would not be a good story arc for Mulder and the X-Files
According to Cooper, Jason is MJ-12…
129:…move the research to contractors in the deep black classified world….
133: Wilbert B. Smith was a Canadian radio engineer and UFO researcher.
SCANING
The book has footnotes. Who does not like a book with footnotes? Unfortunately I lost interest in the material. Perhaps if Mulder would convert them into episodes?

I'm probably being a bit too hard on this book giving it 3 stars. However, given the current state of the UFO world this book really didn't add much. It was updated recently due to the 2021 rumors of the pentagon releasing a general UFO/UAP report sometime this summer so as to be more of the background on who and what government informants have added to this emerging story.

Nevertheless, Mr Cameron doesn't do a very good job of clearly spelling out the story logically. Yes, he does have a lot of reference material and contacts in the incestuous UFO community, but, drops so many names and events that, as a reader, would be very confusing if you knew nothing about the backstory before. Additionally, if you do know what's been happening over the last 40 years then this book doesn't add much more that what you may have already read or heard - same old, same old -> Roswell, MJ-12, ABC's UFOs Live, Falcon, Bill Cooper, Ron Pandolfi, Moore and Shandera, Bob Lazar, Paul Hellyear, Richard Doty, etc. If you know what I'm talking about then you understand why this isn't adding much to existing UFO literature. But, if you don't, this is not the right book to start with - names, dates, accusations, innuendo, rumors, misiformation, disinformation - I could go on. (One glaring omission from this book was Lt Col Philip Corso who detailed much of the government involvement in this saga with his book).

If you are interested in the name list from this book then it might add some more connections to the ongoing UFO speculation. Otherwise, it will only confuse you.

This book was mostly very good, it was as informative and exciting for the most part, as Above Top Secret by Timothy Good. It dragged a bit when they delved into the "he said, she said" and following the meandering trail of who told what and to whom, was ofttimes as tedious as reading the Old Testament with all the "who begat whoms," lol. Overall, I really enjoyed it as it gave an in-depth description of the whole Bob Lazar story that you won't get anywhere else, very interesting! I was glad to see they actually gave an opinion on what exactly the government is trying to do and why they are piecemealing or flagrantly withholding all the information they have in their files. Highly recommend!

Who Dunnit

Rather in-depth coverage of the main (known) characters and documents slightly behind the scenes in UFOlogy. A good and rational analysis of the agencies and agendas apparently engaged in a tug-of-war over disclosure/non disclosure.
The sheer amount of mind games, propaganda, and various versions of “truth” surrounding an important topic is mind numbing and overwhelming, by design.

This book is essentially a paper chase on the trail of truthful information regarding the history and present day UFO/UAP phenomena.

Book was recently updated to 2021, just prior to anticipated release of government records, so it provides a thorough background of what is understood to be factual by UFO researchers. Mind boggling detail at times regarding correspondence, dates, and various player interactions. A table of all the players and their roles may have been a helpful appendix resource. Overall conclusions by the author, and why "leaks" have occurred over many years certainly make sense.

It is like a library of resources, sometimes almost endless

It is like a library of resources, sometimes almost endless. Always difficult what to cut out or leave in. Surprising is author seams not to have read high value sources providing details about mj12, physicion treating ET at A51, etc. The URLs at end offer much too, if accessible at no cost.

The first half can put you to sleep, but second half is a jolt when you recognize truth is being told.

As Shakespeare said,"Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive! These authors have dug deep to find these threads of truth and present them to us.

I have always felt the Government was going to avoid panic of the populace by keeping on denying UFOs exist until the populace, bearing pitchforks, stormed the halls of Congress shouting "UFOs exist, darn it! We tell you they exist!" This book shows you HOW they are doing it?
