From what I gathered upon reading, this book takes a scientific approach with premise to address procrastination and eliminate it by guiding the reader to realize how they function individually within different environments and various levels of distraction while also factoring in personal rest -ie. does the individual work better in complete silence or does silence make them sleepy which leads to putting off the task? Would the individual require a bit of noise and movement? Perhaps working on their assignment at a local library which provides a bit of quiet chatter/people quietly moving about, or a coffee shop providing same as the above with a bit of music added in, etc.

If it’s a physical task that needs to be completed from home, procrastination can be eliminated by playing music to inspire movement in the individual to “mill about”. Procrastination can also be reduced by turning off social media alerts on their personal electronic mobile devices (cell phones, tablets, computers…).

Personally, I first felt this was a mindless common sense read, as I prefer reading complex psychological thrillers or riveting memoirs, but I found myself taking moments to pause in self reflection to take note on positive improvements to incorporate into my daily routine to reduce procrastination. I tend to push through tasks, even when fatigued, which seemingly prolongs completion of task. I’ve since learned that taking breaks is equally as important as finding motivation to begin the work.

I was given a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and appreciate having learned positive best practices to keep me successful, moving forward.

Sustainable ways to stop procrastination

Procrastination can get the best of most of us. It’s difficult to get out of it even when we try. But Patrick Drechsler offers a few methods that can lead to a sustainable way out of procrastination. Patrick reminds us that sustainable change should take our health into consideration. In this book, we learn about things like self-efficacy, and focusing on progress rather than perfectionism. But definitely start by assessing any causes for procrastination (i.e. motivation, self conviction, or self control). Mindset and attitude are probably the most important things to find a way out of procrastination. Very good book!

A brilliant perspective

Instantly Stop Procrastination is a wonderful read. It answers or guides you to the answers of why you put things off. The book helps you discover the real problem. What really blew my mind was the whole concept of procrastinating and the connection to arbitrary tasks that you just don’t want to do.it begs the question, Am I lazy, or does this really have to be done. If there is a problem with you, the book helps you find solutions. I highly recommend this book because it’s very thought provoking, and better yet, helps you find the problem if there is one
