But when some unwelcome surprises make themselves known, the best-laid plans fall apart. The Penderwicks at The Penderwicks return to Arundel this summer, the place where it all began. And better still is the a good old-fashioned, homemade-by-Penderwicks wedding.

Jeanne Birdsall grew up in the suburbs west of Philadelphia, where she attended wonderful public schools. Jeanne had lots of great teachers, but her favorites were: Mrs. Corkhill, sixth grade, who encouraged her intellectual curiosity; Mr. Tremonte, eighth grade algebra, who taught Jeanne to love and respect math; and Miss Basehore, second and fourth year Latin, to whom Jeanne (and Mr. Penderwick) will be forever grateful.
Although she first decided to become a writer when she was ten years old, it took Jeanne until she was forty-one to get started. In the years in between, Jeanne had many strange jobs to support herself, and also worked hard as a photographer, the kind that makes art. Some of Jeanne's photographs are included in the permanent collections of museums, including the Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Art Museum. Her work can be seen in several galleries, including the R. Michelson Galleries in western Massachusetts.
Jeanne's home now is with her husband in Northampton, Massachusetts. Their house is old and comfortable, full of unruly animals, and surrounded by gardens.

My favorite books EVER. I’ve read them COUNTLESS times, and I recently got the whole set. I KNOW these books have made me who I am today and I will NEVER outgrow them. NOTHING can describe my love for them. Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty all have a piece of my heart, and Lydia and Ben too of course. I always cry while reading “The Penderwicks In Spring”, and also during “The Penderwicks At Last”. I relate to each of the characters and they are so real to me. Although I would give each one of these books in the series five stars, my all time favorite will forever be the original. My gratitude for Jeanne Birdsall is so huge, and I just wish I could thank her for helping to shape who I am today with these book.

I've now finished this 5 Book Penderwicks Series. I enjoyed the books very much. I didn’t read this particular Kindle collection, But rather checked them out from the Public Library, some hardbacks, some paperbacks. Mostly I just enjoyed being with this family of four sisters whose mother had died. They functioned with integrity, dealing with a variety of issues, and their somewhat distant but wise father was also a man of integrity.

I was a bit put off when the 4th book went to the POV of the youngest sister, but it made it possible for the now older sister's issues to be revealed in an age appropriate way.

Hey there! This is Charlie P! Im 10 years old and I read books to raise money for charity. I want to help moms pick out books that their kids will like! Here is another review by me!

I love the Penderwicks books. They are full of adventure and fun! The author, Jeanne Birdsall creates quite the story, combining realistic fiction with action or adventure. I would recommend this book to kids ages 9 to 12 who enjoy a classic.
