Having fled the authorities after the death of his parents and taken refuge in a music school, Amadeus continues to be taken for a girl and begins to question his own identity. He also starts school in the very institution he once sought refuge in, but being a music and dance prodigy doesn't buy him any slack from the other students. Will he be able to make any friends in the new school -- and will it be as a girl or a boy?
The damage that Day's parents did to her/him through love reflected by their own up bringing is heart breaking. The love she/he has for his parents is shown throughout both books. His/her mothers paranoia about authority figures from her life in the Soviet Union, and his father's rigid, paternalistic out look on manhood are reflected perfectly in this book. The fear of authority taught to him/her by the mother causes him/her to flee across country, taking only his fathers violin and his mother's worn out pointe shoes along with his/her own point shoes as her most important treasures is so poignant to bring tears to my eyes. Please hurry with the third book.
This 2nd book brings in new characters, including 2 new characters dealing with forms of abuse that are sadly too common, but Day has the ability to see beyond mean, to see beyond the obvious. Day's time under the bridge has helped her develop extraordinary social skills that get troubled people to tell their stories, in exchange for an unusual reward.
The books are based on true stories, and it shows brilliant insights into the struggles of 3 girls dealing with very different & very real problems as well as the adults who support them.
Amadeus finds supportive people surrounding him to help him recover from his year long survival on the streets. Plenty of surprises are in store forAmadeus’ new family.
You are SUCH a talented author of SUCH wonderful stories. Book 2 may not have gotten the response book 1 got, but WE (at least me) WANT MORE. so please hurry & get book 3 started.
