To find her mate, she must brave a perilous, magical realm... Dry land.
Sea dragon Jane Doe has never given up hope of finding her mate. Now, there’s only one place left to search. An enigmatic, intimidating place filled with baffling wonders like flowers and ice cream.
Only the bravest sea dragons have ever dared to venture into the human world. Jane’s no warrior, but she’s determined to face the terrors above the sea. Her mate must be on land, and she’s going to find him. No matter how long it takes.
Which, as it turns out, is approximately two minutes.
Finding their happy ending?
That’s going to be a lot harder….
A hilarious, heartwarming fish-out-of-water shifter romance, featuring fan-favorite characters from Zoe Chant's bestselling Fire & Rescue Shifters series!
Author’s Note: The Sea Dragon’s Lion is a complete, standalone story, but it contains MAJOR spoilers for Firefighter Griffin and Firefighter Sea Dragon. For maximum enjoyment, please read those books first!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
Great short story/long novella? That picks up at the end of where firefighter sea Dragon left off. You definitely need to have read both firefighter Griffin and sea dragon before hand otherwise you risk major spoilers.
Really enjoyed finding out how Jane and Reiner meet. Although I wasn't a fan of Reiner in griffin's story, I'm a sap for a redemption story and this is his. He realises he did wrong and now he needs to learn that he still deserves happiness. He's doing his best to be a better person. Jane Learns how to stand up for herself and also she finds herself. There is more to life and the world than the confines of Atlantis.
Danny was definitely my favourite character in this. Zoe captures the innocent directness of children and its great to see the world from his point of view. Parents need to listen to their kids more!!!!

2.25 🌟 Uhm, this kinda made totally dislike John? What the heck? And it kinda made me like Reiner? Uhm... Weeeell. Okay. Moving on. Still addictive but I was glad it wasn't longer. While wishing Jane had more time to get used to life on land. Plus, I can't wrap my head around Danny most of the time now. Id he adorable or a hellishly spoiled brat? Anyway, on to the Master Shark. Who wouldn't want to read about a Megalodon fiding his mate? (Me, because I want to read more about the Firefighters!)
This is an OK shifter romance, with a mostly likable couple, but I did have some issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.
It was just too short to have as much character development as I usually like. I read this since it was a spin-off of the Fire & Rescue Shifters series, but I don't normally read novellas -- simply because I prefer longer books that have time for more character development.
I liked both Jane and Reiner, but got a little frustrated with both of them at times. They both made incorrect assumptions about each other, which could have led to them never being together. If they had just talked to each other, they wouldn't have had so many problems.
I also found it hard to deal with Jane's insecurity, and Reiner's belief that he was incapable of being a good mate. They both had reasons for feeling that way -- but both desperately needed more self-confidence. It helped when they finally talked, and realized they were absolutely right for each other, but their lack of self-esteem got a little old.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Jane Finds Her Voice And Her Mate! 4.5***** Spoiler Alert!
Jane, Third Dance and Joe's older twin sister, had been a non-conformist, a free-thinker, which ostracized her from the sea Dragon elitist society; however since she explored and failed to find her mate beneath the ocean, she expanded her search to the dry land. Immediately upon setting foot on the beach with the sea Dragon consortium, she met and lost her mate, Reiner L, lion shifter and Danny's daddy, due to a misunderstanding of words and mating norms. She ran away to search for ice cream as Danny suggested and her place in this new world, where she met Taludah and the disco girls. She realized she can dance with abandonment and found the courage to stand up to Joe, while accepting Reiner's explanation that he was free to be mate claimed. Yes Danny helped patch the rift with Griff/Da's assistance, but realized that it meant more little siblings for him. A HEA for Reiner and Jane.
Great new Jane and boisterous Taludah characters, with a passable plot that led to self discovery. Enjoyed Griff 's "chat" with Reiner spurring him to fight for his mate. Once again diversity of the Sea Dragon society not only grew their genetic pool, but added to the new friends and land liasons. A Must-Read novella for paranormal/romantic fiction readers!
Jane is a doll. She was never truly accepted in Atlantis, so she went with her brother to try and find her mate on land. When she does, it is Reiner and things get very confusing. Reiner has struggled to become a better person and really doesn't feel like he deserves a mate, so there is a lot to work out. The story is shorter, but doesn't feel incomplete.
You have to read at least the Firefighter Sea Dragon book and Firefighter Griffin book before this. After this book, you can read the Friends and Family book 2 Coyote in the Sea. These Friends and Family books seem to take place in between Fire & Rescue Shifters and Wildfire Crew, so you can read the whole Fire & Rescue series before this. But even if you have read all the Wildfire Crew books out to date, you will enjoy these and be able to put them into the overarching storyline!
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some steamy suggestions but not a lot of details. The characters are vivid and endearing. You just want them to figure things out! Enjoy!
This is a short and sweet fated mates novel set in the world of my favorite series by Zoe Chant, the Fire and Rescue world. I loved getting a glimpse at the prior characters like Griffin, Chase and John Doe. While the romance is stand alone, it definitely works best when read with an awareness of the other characters in the originator series.
I was a little put out when I realized that this story was about Reiner. I haven’t forgiven him for what he did to Griffin. But ok, fine, he was redeemed in this story. And Jane was literal fish (or dragon?) out of the water which was amusing. But she was also so sweet and lovely that I loved following her adventures to find herself. I loved Danny, Reiner’s son and overall, this was a great way to spend a little time getting lost in an awesome world.
Oh my... what a cute little romp through the world of the firefighter shifters! I had been wondering what happened between Jane and Rainier... and what an awesome story! Ups and downs, dancing and sisterhood, and best of all... Y.M.C.A.!! LMAO! I got a good giggle from that one... but still... an excellent short story that takes us back to that wonderful world, and here's hoping we get a few more!! Especially if we get to learn about the apple and the gallons of glitter... ;) lol
Either way, if you enjoy short stories that dovetail into bigger series that just enrich and enhance the whole give this one a read! But fair warning... it's best to read this AFTER reading the main series so you dont get lost in the who's who and all the previously introduced characters
Jane is a sea dragon shifter from Alantis . She has been waiting her whole life to find her fated mate. Reiner is a lion shifter, who has a six year old son named Danny.
When Jane came out of the sea to dry land for the first time, she actually found her mate, until Danny yelling for his daddy. She was devastated and wasn't going to break up a family for a mate. Has she misunderstood?
The characters are funny, charming, and misunderstood. A fast paced comedy withsome characters from the Fire and Rescue series by the same author gives this spin off a quick entertaining read. I love this story because delightful wonder of experiencing something for the first time is empathize.
I would certainly give this book a six stars if I could.
Zoe chant is incapable of disappointment There is not a single book Zoe chant has written that I have been disappointed with. I have read so so many of series FIRE & RESCUE,WILDFIRE SHIFTERS, LOST DRAGONS, BODYGUARD SHIFTERS , PROTECTION INC. DEFENDERS INC. SHIFTING SANDS RESORT, ETC.......THE LIST IS LONG AND THE BOOKS IN EACH SERIES EVEN LONGER, the characters are also very well developed and so many of the series play into other series I love when series overlaps. And characters from one series finds there way into another series and lives loves and families become more enriched and we the reader get to delve deeper into into the depths of their lives. The fun never stops the stories never stop and the world of Zoe chant gets more rich and we are richer for it.
I really enjoyed meeting John Doe's sister and reading of her struggle to find her mate. Jane is so innocent in the ways of the land but feels she can never to anything right in the sea. Her determination and just knowing that her mate is on land, brings her to the Pearl Empress' seaside home where she meets her mate. I can forgive Jane's conclusions as she is a sea dragon but Reiner's conclusions seemed to be from a desperate man trying his best at avoidance. Jane was definitely a fish out of water and besides letting her disappointment get the best of her, she does grow emotionally and finds her strength.
This is a fantastic addition to the Fire and Rescue series.
This short read follows John Doe's sister. As such, one should wait to read this book until after reading books 3 and 4 of the Fire & Rescue Shifters series.
[If you decide to read it before, well, no biggie I suppose... Since they're all HEAs. Haha]
Honestly, this little tale is a nice slice of life that gives a happy ending to some characters who definitely deserve it. It's just a singular day for most of it- from when Jane leaves the sea to when she makes it to a bedroom. She gets to meet her mate and have her first date!
I think it really adds to the Fire & Rescue universe, simply because we're talking about family members of the core team. I hope it'll get bound up with some other short stories from the same universe as I'd love to have a physical copy of it on my shelves!
What I like about this series is that while the basic shifter “true mate” is the core premise of the story, the author tells the many, many ways misunderstanding can screw it up. The heartwarming tales ( pun intended) can remind us carefully of what we miss in life by not being willing to listen to another person, and express our wants and needs. In this story, the heroine didn’t even know that she was missing the potentials of a full life she chose, with and along side a true mate who encourages her.
Very enjoyable but I just felt it wrapped up so quickly. Maybe this is because I was enjoying it so much and wanted more, maybe I felt these two needed to communicate more than what we received. Reiner was so lucky that nothing bad happened to Jane as I agreed with her brother John that she was indeed a fish out of water. Hopefully Jane will show a stronger side in future books. Did they just leave John at the discotheque with all those women? I really want to try that black Charcoal Salmiakki ice-cream, sounds delicious. Read through Kindle Unlimited.
Even though u meet ur mate it seems like I also loose it mind 4 a time lol. Jane has always wanted 2 meet her mate and she finally did but 2 her surprise things weren't as what she thought it should b but after she ran away from her feelings she finally found terrific new friends and found herself that she's been missing 4 yrs now. Even though her bro is very protective he crossed the line but not only that she finds her mate ready 2 protect her from himself and others if needed. Danny is 2 adorable and 2 smart 4 words... 😻😻 lol
This was a fun, exciting, and terrific story with great characters, humor, drama, a bit of angst, and unexpected surprises. I would definitely recommend that you read the Fire and Rescue Shifters and Fire and Rescue Shifters: Wildfire Crew prior to beginning this series. Both of these series are absolutely fantastic, and you definitely won't be disappointed. I'm hoping that there will be more books in this series! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Jane longs to meet her mate, she's planned out everything. When she does find him, things do not go according to plan. Devastated she sets off to explore dry land. Danny's gobsmacked when he comes face to face with his mate and totally bungles it. Fortunately his precocious son and extended family knock some sense in him. Jane's dry land explorations lead her to the joys of ice cream, disco and girl power. This story is fish (sea dragon) out of water meets and falls in love with reformed villain.
Jane, a sea dragon shifter, has come to the land to find her mate. Danny, a lion shifter, knows she is his mate from the first time he saw her. Unfortunately there is a big misunderstanding and Jane walks away from him, thinking there is no future for them together. Jane gets lost because she had never been to the land before. Danny keeps searching for her until he finds her. They end up talking things over and Worked everything out so they became true mates. A very good book and one I definitely recommend.
I love this series by Zoe Chant! I didn’t even think that there would be a story for Reiner but his and Jane’s story is wonderful. Danny is such a great child and will be an even better alpha one day with 2 sets of parents who love him. I think he will even get over the brothers and sisters coming lol! It was also awesome to see John and Chase have not changed a bit! I love Chase!
Jane is a sea dragon she and others are coming to the surface to find their mates or just to live. Just one look and they know that they are fated mates. Reiner sees her and can’t believe she his mate but do to a misunderstanding maybe not. You see Reiner has a son so Jane thinks he already has a mate and she won’t breakup their family. But Danny is from a causal relationship not a mating. So enjoy this good read and find out what happens!!
I love this story sooooooo much. It’s a perfect addition to the fire & rescue series. I love how they both feel like outsiders from different worlds but they make it work to make a beautiful blended family. A MUST READ!!!... along with the rest of the series.
For all the fans of the Fire and Rescue Shifters series, this is a story we have been waiting for a loooong time. We all know that John's sister is the mate of Hayley's ex, but we finally get to see how they get together, and it's not exactly what I had imagined. I have to say that once again Danny is the star of the show, and I would love a book just about him.
I did not expect drama so early on, and the big misunderstanding they get right away is both funny and a little annoying. We all know that at the end everything has to work out, especially for those who continued reading to Wildfire Crew and got a glimpse of the future.
Overall, it was entertaining and a must, but it's definitely not the best book in the series.
When Reiner found he had a son he wanted to take him all for himself. He came from an unhealthy, unloving and violent background. Thankfully Danny's mom had found her mate and the two of them protected Danny and taught Reiner what a healthy, loving relationship really was. It was nice to read the followup story on what happened to Reiner.
Jane and Reiners story was cute. Got to love how someone who know nothing about the world will look at it. Danny who is to big for a little guy is just the funniest. He may not understand everything around him but he is smarter than the average lion! Its a really fun story and a nice read.
Jane is looking forward to finding her mate! Her brother, John, had found his! She found him......and his son. Customs in Atlantis are VERY different from those on dry land. That's how things start unraveling. Will they be able to figure things out? You'll have to read the book to find out. 🙂
Let me just say not only I’ve read all the Wildfire Crew. But this one story pulled at my strings, it kept me entertained, riveted by the seat of my pants, and many chuckles from Danny. The storyline was amazing, the the plot was well thought out. The sexy part was hot-sizzling 🥰😋
The Sea Dragons Lion (Fire & Rescue Shifters: Friends and Family) by Zoe Chant. Jane came from Atlantis with the Empress and her brother hoping to find her mate. She finds him immediately but he has a boy which to Atlanteans means he has a mate. Jane runs and finds humans are nothing Atlanteans.
Oh such a cute story bringing two people and a pride closer together in the form of two families. The first of hopefully many other stories of shifters without all the fighting. I love the way that the characters and plot comes together in a fun way that demonstrates that just the first impression can lead to rash decisions and reactions.
This story is an absolute delight to read! Lack of communication was a definite issue, but with the aide of a precocious six year old maybe the adults will wise up? One can only hope!
It was a fast-paced, beautiful, intriguing and wonderful ride. Zoe Chant had me hook from start to finish. You all should give this book a try. Two thumbs up! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
