The Lottie Lindberg Historical Cozy Mystery Series Reading Murder Afloat ~ Book #1 Murder Aboard ~ Book # 2 Murder Afoot ~ Book # 3 Murder Aloft ~ Book # 4 Murder Abroad ~ Book # 5 Murder Abounds ~ Book # 6
I love Lottie and Esme! It took me no time at all to get into the book, which is always a great sign. Easy-to-read, with a good flow, and well written.
Something nefarious is afoot!
Many twists, many turns, and nothing is what it seems! Once things got going, they really got going! An entertaining read, written in a lighthearted way but also with lots of suspense. There were a few parts where I was holding my breath it was so suspenseful! A clever mystery, and you have to keep your wits about you because it’s not an easy case to crack! (I loved that!) And I did laugh out loud at times! And, the truth can be hard to hear…
Quote: “I should just go back, shouldn’t I, Manning, and mind my own business. Oh, who are we kidding? You know I won’t.” (Lottie talks to her late husband all the time)
Another quote, that I think shows exactly what Lottie is like: “Oh, Manning, what I have gotten myself into now?”
The first book in the series, ‘Murder Afloat’ had a great storyline and plot, interesting characters against a backdrop where you wouldn’t have envisaged a Murder/Mystery tale. This episode was not the same, given that we’ve had many over the years: ‘Strangers on a Train’, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, ‘The Lady Vanishes’, etc. but, neither the characters or the story was endearing in this one.
I had suspected that Lottie would become tiresome after awhile. It turns out that she didn’t wait for a few episodes to start getting on my nerves! It transpires that her annoying habit of dragging people by the hand, to follow her, is a trait I don’t like. Also her feminism is ignorant and intolerant (in my opinion) and finally, she’s not that self aware…
I will concede that she’s still grieving for her husband and so it confused and conflicted, but something doesn’t sit right for me.
In the second Lottie Lindberg 1900's cozy mystery, Lottie and her friend Esme Loring are headed to Thaddeus Montgomery, Esme's fiance', interment in Canada. They are on the first trip of the Maritime Express, an upscale train. The trip and their clothes, having lost everything with the sinking of the Titanic, was paid for by Esme's future in-laws. As they wait in line to board the train, they felt there were some strange characters boarding the train. Once underway Little Dickens, Lottie's dog, is poisoned and left for dead. One of the passengers is poisoned and Lottie doesn't know who to trust. Some are not who they say they are. Inspector Sterling Stone whom Lottie met on the Titanic was unable to catch the first leg of the trip but is meeting them on the next stop. This was a great book. There were so many twists and turns. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I didn't. I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest review. I cannot wait for Book #3.
It is clear the author enjoys this time period and has researched it well, little things count even the language used (and the clear misogynistic attitudes of the time) Lottie and her new friend Esme after surviving the sinking of the titanic (and the mystery they found themselves involved there) are travelling to the interment in Halifax of Esme's fiancé who died in the tragedy. After overhearing talk of a heist the ladies find themselves embroiled in a new mystery Esme begs Lottie to leave it to the police, but stuck on a train with some very odd characters, many suspects and much action Lottie, Esme and of course little Dickens (Lottie's little dog) launch themselves into the investigation.
As I said, the attention to detail of the time period and the plot of the mystery make this a really interesting read, I will never look at chess the same again.
"Besides.” I drop my head onto hers. “We made it through Titanic. We can make it through anything. Together.”
Lottie and Esme survive the Titanic only to be traveling on The Maritime Express headed for Nova Scotia to inter Esme's intended...and another disaster happens when a murder occurs over a chess move? And where is Inspector Stone when they need him!?
Leave it to Ruby Riverton to leave you guessing almost to the last as readers will be distracted by the amazing train and Esme's dilemma. Highly Recommended 5/5
[ disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily read and reviewed it]
Lottie sometimes jumps to conclusions, but she will always jump in and try to solve a mystery. She and Esme are drawn into another mystery aboard a train on their way to the interment of Esme's dead fiancee. As they travel across Canada, so many things are happening and Lottie is determined to figure them all out. Sterling was not able to catch the train with them, but he will join them later down the line. She sure wishes he was there to help them now. Someone drugged her poor little dog, poisoned another passenger and has planned a robbery. There are so many suspects and Lottie isn't sure who to trust. Several of the passengers are not who they seem. What to do?
Murder Aboard is the second book: a 1900s Historical Cozy Myteries series by Ruby Riverton where Lottie and Esme embark on a train ride to Esme's fiancee's funeral, who was lost at sea on the Titanic when it sank. In the middle of the night the the train suddenly stops and everyone is took that there was a small fire and everything is fine and they will be delayed longer. Lottie is always looking for a good mystery and she just stumbled on another and she's not sure of the why or how but she has that feeling....
I really enjoyed this book! I highy recommend this book for anyone that loves a good historical mystery! I was given a coy of this book to write a review with my true opinion.
I confess I spent the first part of this book trying to figure out if the heroine’s husband Manning was alive and just missing or actually dead, so I didn’t pay as much attention to the clues about the mystery being dropped. Also I was distracted by wondering where the dog was going to use the potty. I’ve lived and traveled with dogs so I kept imagining him peeing and pooping in that elegant train car… However the mystery was well done, even if I was distracted by other elements of the story.
After the Titanic sunk, Lottie and Esme board a train to go the funeral of Esme's fiancee, one she lost at the sinking, and while traveling she finds out some unsettling news. While on board, Lottie stumbles on an adventure which she and Esme needs to figure how to settle it. Ms. Ruby is an excellent writer and this book proves it. My favorite characters are Lottie and Esme, the plot is easy to follow and the characters are consistent and full of life. If you want to find out how it ends, I highly recommend you get the book, because I am not going to spoil it and tell you. Thank you.
Lottie and Esme are off on a new adventure. This time on a train as they travel to Esme’s husband’s funeral. They’re on the maiden voyage of the Maritime Express on a trip paid for by Esme’s in-laws. They have the prime sleeper car to themselves. But of course, it’s not a smooth trip. There are some shoddy characters and it’s not clear who’s up to what.
This is an enjoyable second book and I look forward to see where Lottie and Esme go in the future.
I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of Ruby Riverton's second book in the Lottie Lindberg Murder Mysteries. Murder Aboard picks up where the first book ended. Having survived the sinking of the Titanic, Lottie and her friend Esme are now off on a new adventure aboard a luxury train. Of course, things are not all what they seem and Lottie again suspicions foul play is afoot. This book keeps you guessing until the end. Can't wait for book 3 to continue the saga!
This book was very good, it followed Lottie and Esme on the Maritine Express. At first it seems to be going well until Lottie overhears a plot to someone trying to do a heist on the train. Things start going a little bit scary until Lottie manages to get help in the knick of time. Now we need to find out the fate of Esme and if Sterling will come back to Lottie. Hopefully there is another in the works as this book left us hanging.

The story begins with Lottie and Esme taking the train to an internment ceremony. Surviving the Titanic together created a strong bond between the two. They embark on this adventure and meet an interesting cast of characters on the train...many of them heading to a chess tournament.
This story has intrigue, a scary chase scene, but mostly has the 2 ladies on the lookout for a heist. The ending left some questions in my mind...I hope there is another installment.
Lottie and Esme are traveling across Canada in style. But Esme is worried about her future and Lottie is looking for danger. And she doesn’t have to wait long. The train is full of strange passengers. What are they up to? Are they who they pretend to be?
Easy to read and entertaining. Parts had me laughing out loud!
If you found murder afloat enjoyable, you will absolutely love murder aboard. Lottie and Esme are on their way to visit the family of Esmes recently deceased fiancee when they find themselves in a spot of trouble on the train. Will they be able to solve this latest mystery or will it be curtain call for the duo and Lotties little pooch Dickens?
Another great book in this series. Lottie and Esme are once again caught up in a mystery. Can they figure out what happened this time? It is a fun, easy read with great characters that quickly sucked me into the story. This book had me laughing and also had me in suspense. This is the second book in the series, but could be read alone. I cannot wait for book number three.
I’m not usually one for historical cozy mysteries. I enjoy reading books by this author so I gave these a try. I loved both books. This one they are on a train ride across Canada after the titanic sinking. What an adventure. This grabs you from the beginning and keeps your interest until the end. Leaves you wanting to read the next book.
This was a good second entry into the series. However, it was tough to know which characters were which. They were all introduced in one big lump. If I'd taken notes, I could've kept them all straight, but especially when the main character would think that this character and that were using fake names and accents as soon as she introduced them, it felt like "why bother" learning anyone's names.
what an amazing trip. the description of the train was such that I felt like I was there! the twists and turns, mystery, intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat! stopping reading this book was impossible! a true page turner and a totally fantastic action packed ending. this is a must read book!
Oh my. Lottie seems to be a magnet for unsavory types and their nefarious schemes! She is very good at solving the mysteries. I enjoy reading these mysteries immensely. I hope things work out with Sterling. Now I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens!
The Lottie Lindberg mysteries remind me of the classic golden age mysteries. Such fun and well plotted. However, I don't think I'd want to travel with Lottie because she always end up involved with some crime. I love the characters.
I loved this second book in the Lottie Lindberg Murder Mystery series. The characters are developing nicely and the whodunnit is fun to solve. Also love the Nova Scotia location. I read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book with no obligation.
liked the fact that lottie & Esme found adventure liked that Esme really became more bold & really courageous Hoping that both girlshj will find lasting love
Lottie doesn't have to look for trouble, it finds her. Sterling is once again going on an ocean voyage but instead of going to England, he is headed for Paris. Lottie doesn't want to be separated from him again, so he arranges for Lottie and Esme to accompany him. He also arranges for them to spend a couple of weeks in an elegant hotel. In Paris he is supposed to go undercover to find a thief and murderer. Unfortunately, the thief seems to be setting Lottie up for the crimes. How does this keep happening to her? Things aren't what they seem, and Lottie is determined. Can she catch the thief and help Sterling? With the help of Esme and a hotel employee, they will get to the bottom of it.
“Of course. I smile. The rules. Those things we’ve regularly broken.” Yes, Lottie is in trouble again. Trouble just seems to find her wherever she goes, she really didn’t go looking fo it, LOL!
Great book! Couldn’t put it down! Lottie being her charming self and Sterling ever the hero! Or maybe Dickens is the real hero. Or Esme. Or Lottie gherself, LOL! This fast-paced book is full of action, humorous moments and of course mystery. The lighthearted tone combined with all sorts of mayhem makes this such a fun read. A mad dash! I truly stopped breathing at times. Highly rec!

Murder Abroad is the newest entry to the terrific series by Ruby Riverton. We are reunited with Lottie, Dickens, Esme, and Sterling. This newest adventure takes the detectives, both official and amateur, to Paris. As much as Lottie tries to stay out of trouble, trouble once again finds her in the form of a cat burgler. The plot has many twists and turns which kept me up past my bedtime to find out whodunnit. I truly enjoyed this book and recommend it especially if you like historical cozy mysteries.
Paris in springtime and romance between Lottie and Sterling is growing. A Tall handsome Frenchman has Esme bedazzled. He has everyone bedazzled. Sterling is off into an undercover mission and much to his chagrin, has to leave Lottie on her own in Paris with her partner in sleuthing, Esme. Sleuthing they do and get into trouble almost every turn, as usual! This is yet another page turner fast moving journey that Ms. Rivers has presented. Loved this book!
