How the Hitman Stole Christmas

Rate this book
JASPER

I didn’t plan to kidnap her.

I was just doing a good deed. I saw a car stranded on the side of the road in the middle of a snowstorm and decided to help—didn’t expect to get anything out of it.

Even criminals can do nice things every once in a while.

When I approached the driver, my motives were as pure as the snowflakes clinging to the silky strands of her long, dark hair. Her tire had popped and she didn’t know how to change it. Clearly, the damsel was in distress.

Unfortunately for her, I’m no white knight.

Now, I’m a decisive man. Once I make a decision, it’s pretty much a done deal—and it didn’t take me long to decide Autumn was going home with me for the holidays, whether she wanted to or not.

I was prepared for stealing Autumn to change my plans, but I wasn’t prepared for her to be such a quick study.

I may be the one who stole a girlfriend for Christmas, but if I’m not careful, this pretty little snowflake just might steal my heart.

4.5 Pretty Little Snowflake Stars ⭐

Well okay... Initially I was like, this is seriously messed up, ridiculous and what am I reading?! Ignoring my inner fussy bitch, I persevered and thank god I did. Because what I got was a completely preposterous story that was something else!

Our hero is a hitman and considering he’s a sociopath ends up being extremely likeable. Not one to celebrate Christmas, Jasper has agreed to spend it with his family. As he commences his journey home, he comes to the aid of a broken-down motorist. Except he does the unthinkable.

An idea occurs to me. A fucking crazy one, but that’s never stopped me before.

This woman is all set to go home for the holidays to meet her boyfriend’s family—maybe she’s just got the wrong guy.

Autumn is just another lonely soul at Christmas. In Chicago with a boyfriend who essentially doesn’t respect her, she is caught out alone when her car breaks down. It's here that she mistakes Jasper for a good Samaritan. This man has every intention of helping her, oh and kidnapping and keeping her…

And this point How the Hitman Stole Christmas gets peculiar. Because once it dawns on Autumn that she’s been taken she freaks out initially, yet tentatively accepts the situation and agrees to be Jasper’s fake girlfriend for his family gathering.

She’s fucking amazing.

Out of all the girlfriends I could have stolen, I’m pretty sure I hijacked the very best.

Regardless of how these two found themselves in this situation, they're crazy enough to explore it. And along the way you start believing that Jasper's methods are totally reasonable!

It’s nice. She’s nice.

I’m already fonder of my captive girlfriend than I’ve been of any of the ones who chose to be with me, so maybe I’m onto something here.

You’ll not read an odder love story than theirs, but this book was unique, strangely romantic, sexy and simply entertaining. It's definitely one of the better Christmas romances out there.

Cute but twisted! The perfect kind of Christmas romance for a reader like me! 😍

How the Hitman Stole Christmas is a complete standalone, but the hero/antihero is connected to the Morelli family. It made me miss them so much! I can't wait for the second generation! That whole series is on my most anticipated reads of 2021 list!

If you're a Sam Mariano fan, this is your kind of holiday read! It's probably the lightest thing I've read from her, but don't worry, there's still murder, torture, and kidnapping involved! 😂

The dark part wasn't that depraved and the romance part wasn't that swoon worthy. Overall I did enjoy it but felt it was a bit underwhelming.

Isabella, thank you again for this total gem!

Heh, I realise how strange it might sound if you've read the blurb, but this book was really the sweetest. Plus funny and steamy, so practically the whole package if you are looking for a holiday story!

It was also a bit darkish and bizarre, but if you kinda roll with the fact that the hero is a hit man who kidnaps the heroine and they play around some dub-con scenarios , you are in for a treat!

She's fucking amazing.
Out of all the girlfriends I could have stolen, I'm pretty sure I hijacked the very best.

Jasper was intense, hot and funny; and Autumn was sweet, open minded and strong. This lady had a backbone and I really liked her. Plus have I mentioned it was funny? And hot? And sweet? Yeah, all of that.

"I'm gonna teach you how to bake," she informs me.
"That's not necessary."
"Well, it's necessary for me to know how to change a tire, either, but you said you were going to teach me. I have skills to teach, too."
"We are gonna learn from each other, huh?" I murmur, liking the sound of it more than I should.
Autumn nods, squeezing the bag of cherry filling into another cookie. "If you want, you can teach me how to jam a steak knife into some guy's neck, too. You know, just in case."

So yeah, turn off your moral compass for a while and enjoy the ride!

I love dark romance books, especially with a hitman. How the hitman stole Christmas has some dark components with a comical hitman you just can’t help but to fall in love with.

“Well, yeah, but… Jasper, you can’t just kidnap a date for the holidays. I mean… What kind of psycho kidnaps a person at Christmas?”

Enters Autumn, who has a history of dating the wrong men. No family and is stranded on the side of the road. After Christmas shopping for her horrible boyfriend. Jasper stops to help Autumn, and she is too trustworthy. But smart when she realizes something isn’t right. Jasper, in the fly of the moment, decides he needs her for Christmas with his family.

“I am so excited to meet you. I have never met one of Jasper’s girlfriends before. I don’t know what you’ve done to him, but I am thrilled, and I can’t wait to hear all about it.”

She’s fucking amazing. Out of all the girlfriends, I could have stolen. I’m pretty sure I hijacked the very best.

Best line - EVER

The hitman stole Christmas was a fast, fun read; the author wrote a swoon-worthy leading man and independent heroine, and I very much enjoyed this book and recommended it for an unusual Christmas book.

The audacity of the kidnapping H…

Had me LOLOL more than I ever expected! This man kidnaps a woman and he gives zero Fs about her hesitation to go with him before she figures out the truth…and when she questions his sanity, he just brushes it off… If I ever get kidnapped by a Hitman, he better be like Jasper 🤷🏻‍♀️😈💀😂.

Autumn flies with her boyfriend to meet his family for the holidays. He tasks her with Christmas shopping and doesn’t even care that she’s doing it alone- and his family hasn’t been very receptive to her either. On her way back from shopping, she gets a flat tire, and not a single soul is nearby to help her… That is, until Jasper shows up 👀.

Jasper’s a hitman, works for the Morelli’s (I adored the little cameos here) and is being asked by his sister to spend the holidays with them as a family. The problem is that he doesn’t have a girlfriend, and they think that he does, mistaking his life for a normal one. So now he needs a girlfriend and a bunch of Christmas gifts… Well, good thing he finds Autumn on the side of the road with a car full of them🤡😂😅. Is this fate? Sure feels like it 👏🏻😂. What ensues is dark humor at his finest 😂.

This is NOT a romcom… but man, it totally felt like it could have been sometimes. The banter was ON POINT! Gah… I loved how Autumn was like “well, maybe it’ll be okay if I just pretend for a little bit” 😂💀🤡. This girl 👏🏻😅 my goodness… I couldn’t help but love her 🙈. It’s not everyday a girl gets forced to pretend to be a hitman’s girlfriend. She should be feeling special 😂😅.

The way Jasper responds and reacts to her was *chef’s kiss*; he makes a point of not lying to her, but he’s pretty good about being selective with the information he provides to her. Don’t mistake Autumn’s acquiescence with naivety… she understands that her life’s basically in danger, but there’s only so much she can do to help her situation.

Although Autumn has a boyfriend when the book starts, Jasper quickly decides she’s his and no one else’s, so there’s only one thing to do 🤷🏻‍♀️and Autumn becomes his.

The chemistry, the tension, the steaminess was ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS 🥵🔥. Sure, they have to “pretend” they’re together, but it becomes so organic that their couple-scenes are genuine. Jasper’s a master at reading body language (his job requires him to be aware of everything), and he reads Autumn like a book 😅💦 and oh what skillful reading he does 🥵. Even when Autumn *thinks* she doesn’t wanna pursue a physical relationship with Jasper, he’s… um… quick to prove her wrong 🔥💦. And I appreciated the lack of *barrier* between them😉.

I loved this book! Don’t let the Christmas theme fool ya- there’s some underlying darkness, but it’s still a feel-good ish 😬 book, if you’re okay with dark stuff happening lol.

I’m no longer sure which of us is the hostage in this situation.

If you like your holiday romance with a side of “snatched a girlfriend off the side of the road”, then you need to download How the Hitman Stole Christmas immediately. This book was sweet with holiday vibes, but clearly has taboo elements. If you have enjoyed Sam Mariano’s past work I’d say this is her version of Hallmark. So yeah. Darkish, but lightish considering the author. Plus if you’re a Morelli fan you get a tiny taste of them here, but it’s tiny.

"Out of all the girlfriends I could have stolen, I’m pretty sure I hijacked the very best." 🤣

This was a pretty good read.
There was some good LOL moments..

“Are you… a serial killer?”

"No".....“Well… I guess, in a sense. But. no, I’m not like Ted Bundy, if that’s..."

“What does that mean? How is that something you’re not sure about?"

I Loved how the H didn't give a F about kidnapping the h 🙈

A Cheesy Christmas-y Dark Comedy?

Now that I’ve decided she’s mine, the sight of her smile warms me a little. I look forward to getting to know this pretty little snowflake.

“Fate,” he says with a firm nod. “I think it was fate.” He’s crazy. Absolutely batshit crazy.

While my moral compass is off, basically, it’s a new phase that I am trying where I attempt not to be judgmental and negative with killer leads. I chose this Christmas book where the lead man is a Hitman.

It could have been worse. He could have done more than scratch up my heart. He could have killed me.

Well, assuming that the lead is hitman, this book feels nothing like a dark read. It must be its absurd way of offering dark comedy cause overall, this book is lovely, sweet, and sexy. Sometimes in a bit unsettling way.

PROS

*I feel like I connected with the author; not only Dear Autumn is scarily relatable (at least I know better to not to fall for a dangerous man and the fact that they only work in fiction) I also found so many things that reminded me of me (If I were a writer, I would have added those kinds of things)

*So I can actually be on okay terms with a hitman when it’s given in the right way, because yes, he is a scary, intimidating, cold-blooded killer, but man is not creepiest; he also manages to feel safe (not every time, most of the times).

I’m not a serial killer… but I guess in the strictest sense, I am...
If I never killed again, I’d be just fine. It’s a job—nothing more, nothing less.

*I love the dialogs. They have their way...

“You haven’t killed anyone in these gloves, have you?” “Of course not,” he says dismissively, increasing the pressure as he rubs his thumb back and forth. “You think I’m gonna touch you with gloves soiled by murder? I’m not an animal.”

“I’m not much for wrapping presents.” “Just pretend it’s a body you have to get rid of,” she suggests blithely. “You’ll do a great job.”

*My biggest fear was getting a horrifying, creepy sex scenes that feels more like torture rather than sex. But lucky for me the sex was good!

FOOTNOTES

*There, I thought why Mateo Morelli sounds so familiar his series was actually in my to-be-read list before. Then, I decided not to because of the mafia romance trope. But now, actually liking this book made me think one more time. I will say not now, but maybe in the future...

CONS

*My real and biggest problem with not voting higher for his book is actually irrelevant to the book itself. It is the name. Jasper. He was also the name of another hitman in a disturbing book He Hates Me that gave me so many triggers while reading.

OVERALL

*I am gonna be honest it is a Christmas book, so I wanted their HEA, but this kind of story with a breakup sounds like a perfect dark romance; I seriously need to read sth like that!

*ALSO, I will not discuss how impossible for this story to work magically as a romance story. First of all, the man is a hitman. I kind of knew what I would get. Secondly, it's Christmas!! This is the time everything is so shiny good, happy, and bright, and I love this book!

*It was a disturbing yet very charming read. This book is funny, hot, entertaining, romantic, even a little/tiny bit angsty. So once and again, thank you for the gem Isabella, If it weren't for you, I would've never discovered this great read!

“You’re crazy.” “You love it.” Her gaze returns to me, her eyes as soft as her smile. “I do.” “And I love you,” I tell her again.

Rather than listen to me like a sensible person, she keeps thrashing about like her little ass is going to be able to pull off my door handle. Girlfriends. They can be so crazy sometimes.

“And here I thought I was the crazy one between us,” I say lightly, shaking my head and looking ahead at the road. “Surprise,” she says cheerfully.

I’m already fonder of my captive girlfriend than I’ve been of any of the ones who chose to be with me, so maybe I’m onto something here.

“I didn’t do anything to you. Why did it have to be me?” “Fate,” I tell her, reaching over and patting her hand. She glares at me and turns away. Under her breath, I hear her mutter, “Fuck fate and you.” So I guess she’s mad.

LOVED this book. I'm actually pretty surprised that this author actually wrote a "safe" book too. I was also definitely okay with the insta love and the unrealistic reactions because I really didn't care to read any back and forth right now either. The hero even had some Ignazio vibes which I was totally digging. I'm kind of wishing this author would write more books like this now🤞

This supports my opinion that any story, if written well, has the potential to be genuinely good. Not just troll-good but actually good.

“And here I thought I was the crazy one between us,” I say lightly, shaking my head and looking ahead at the road.

“Surprise,” she says cheerfully.

This totally worked, I was 100% on board. This random hitman really met his match in some happy-go-lucky bitch who could roll with the punches. Love that for him. Speaking of... Jasper was so hot. I'm a little ashamed that I'm absolutely okay with the dubious consent at play here.

(Also, Autumn is definitely an Aquarius.)

Who loves a darkish Christmas novel!! MEEEEE!!! now I was Recommend
This book and it am so glad I read it.  I laughed, shed a tear or two and was awww.  perfect captive Christmas.

Let's talk about Jasper... this psycho sweet funny gentlemen is what made me love this book. I wanted my own Jasper to kidnap me for Christmas cuz the way he kidnapped Autumn was good. Hats off to you Jasper and at being a gentlemen until your little twisted mind was saying "hey shes the perfect woman I can make my fake girlfriend i can bring to my families Christmas " 🤣🤣🤣 love you Jasper never change lol

Now I love that Autumn did sorta fight back for a split second and had some conflicted feelings when she agreed to be his fake girlfriend. Even when she was dealing with her own little drama with her douche boyfriend soon to be ex since well Jasper made sure of that lol
The stress Jasper had to deal with since he learned allllll this info about his family. And the sexual tension between him and Autumn was so good.
I was kinda disappointed there wasn't more violence since well he is a hitman lol. And the ending was okay I felt alittle rushed and wanted Jasper to kidnap her again.

Low angst, no ow drama tiny om drama, no cheating, slight secondary character, tiny drama, sexy times, no virgins

Recommend- yes

This was a cute little holiday read that was a lot more on the cheesy side than dark side. I didn't realise it tied in with her Morelli series (not massively but the two main H's get mentioned) which I have been on the fence about and to be honest... I'm still on the fence haha. Not sure her writing style is really something I'm too invested in but for a quick, steamy read this book worked well.

In case you can't figure out that there's going to be some dark bits and questionable consent in this one, the author provides a helpful disclaimer right up front and it was both accurate and helpful in setting expectations. The cover is a bit of a mislead, though...

The story delivers on the promise and does it with a lovely Christmas setting that I think worked out pretty well. Well, okay, Jasper pulls an unearned 180 near the end that is entirely negatively motivated* and a crappy dark moment. I'm not sure if it counts as actual negative motivation because the point of those being avoided is because they're friction on the plot, working to negate action. And the point of a dark moment is to crash everything to the ground anyway. So the stupid dark moment makes the negative motivation unimportant. Except that it's the motivation of the dark moment and now I'm just talking myself in circles.

That aside, I kind of liked the relationship dynamic between Jasper and Autumn, though I realize how messed up that is. But then, they're pretty messed up. Yeah, it's blind luck that Jasper latches onto a woman who is so lonely that even Jasper's brand of attention is a step up. And I loved his response to her affection and honesty. So watching them work out the parameters of their relationship was engaging.

I'm going to go with four stars with the caveat that you read the disclaimer.

A note about Steamy: There's less explicit sex than I expected. There are some tense moments early with nudity but no sex. And there's a couple explicit scenes late in the story, with the author going with just references after. So it's only the middle of my steam tolerance, all told.

* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

Reread!

The review below still stands… I liked this book even more on the reread, so added a star. 🥰
………………………….

Well, Friends, this was a good one! Sam Mariano does what Sam Mariano does best:

* H with highly questionable ethics and behavior - he's j/p from the first meeting and just a *weensy* bit toeing the crazy-town line - he's pretty sweet underneath, so on a Sam Mariano Character Scale of Depravity, where my man Mateo Morelli is a 10 and my boo Carter Mahoney is a 9.5, I'd put Jasper at a 6. 😂

* h is just the kind of h that Sam Mariano loves - she's young-ish (24) and pretty naïve, but also clever, and quick witted - waaaay too trusting, but in a completely endearing way -- and as usual, that works perfectly for these heros - I love her (she's not a virgin, for those of you who care) 🥰

* age gap of 8 years

* he likes to do the "good girl" thing that makes me giddy 🔥

* there's some pretty mild dubcon, depends on your sensitivity how you'll gauge it. 🤷‍♀️

* the fun banter about not very funny subjects is on point 👌

* Even though it's a Holiday Romance, it is not at all Hallmark Channel cheesy... they should totally make this a movie though, then I might actually want to watch! 😂🤷‍♀️

* This is set in the Morelli world, and we get a couple cameos. You don't have to have read the Morelli series to read this, but you'll likely want to once you're done. 🖤

What I didn't like:
* not much 🤷🏼‍♀️🤡

Bottom Line? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars. Solid book. Fun, unique story and likable characters with a little edge, but not too much, because its CHRISTMAS! #falalalala 🎄☃️🎉🎅

⚠️Safety Squad Warnings⚠️
* no cheating or sharing
* no OW drama at all
* heed the warning in the front of the book. The H is a hitman, so he kills people and has questionable morals - he crosses lines that might make a sensitive reader uncomfortable
* IMO the dubcon in this book is mild - she's been kidnapped, so she's under duress, but she's into him and he's a little ruthless in his tactics. It's hard to know how another reader will internalize something... but I feel like he's one of Sam's more sweet characters. 🤷‍♀️
*neither MC is a virgin - their past isn’t discussed much

This was (for me) the perfect dark Christmas romance. A hitman stops to help a broken down car, decides to kidnap her, and take her home to meet his family for Christmas. The dark content is within that plot is dubious consent. I really enjoyed this one. I haven’t read this author before, but she did say that this isn’t as dark as her usual books.

This one is super cute in a murderous kind of way. Great protagonists, awesome chemistry, a dark dominating man and laughs to boot. My kind of read.

I thought it was funny that he would kidnap a girl to take home to his family for Christmas. But the fact that the bags of gifts and wrapping paper was a deciding factor kills me.

I don’t think she would’ve realized your explanation was full of shit. I can’t imagine anyone foreseeing this scenario.

There must be something wrong with me because I like that he’s shady as fuck. It’s a nice contrast with his friendly do-gooder facade.

Questionable taste in men you say? Interesting.

Considering his dubious motives he appears rather considerate. I imagine if I’m going to be kidnapped I wouldn’t mind being kidnapped by Jasper.

I’m starting to wonder if there’s insanity involved with our fair hitman. Either way I can’t help but like him. Like I can’t even feel empathy for Autumn because I know he’d never hurt her and that he actually has good intentions. Even if they are hidden under a veneer of crazy. And when he said girlfriends can be crazy I just cracked up.

Uh ... ahem ... Jasper’s dominance is hot as hell. All encompassing.

Real life is depressing Jasper, stop it.

I see what the author means by dubious consent ... it’s a little frustrating as the reader. So far that’s my only complaint. But she did warn me.

You see? This is why she didn’t want to and now we’re both mad at you, Jasper.

Funnily enough I think I prefer the turmoil versus the happy go lucky.

Gotta love that pillow talk; I’ll kill that guy I thought you were fucking, right in front of you. He’s too much, lol.

3.5 - 4 stars!

Autumn is minding her own business when she gets a flat tire on the way to see her crummy boyfriend and his family for Christmas. Unlucky for her, she doesn't know how to change a tire and in steps Jasper.

Jasper is a wolf in sheep clothing and when he sets his sights on Autumn he decides to kidnap her and take her to his family's Christmas as his fake girlfriend. Jasper is an enforcer and has blood on his hands and doesn't think he will ever deserve a woman or a family but he's more than willing to pretend to have one for a short while.

But Autumn is nothing he expects and soon he finds that she is more accepting of his true nature than he ever thought possible. Autumn agrees to be his fake girlfriend but the more time they spend together, the more their fiery chemistry ignites. What will happen when their time together is up?

I decided to read this after reading Mariano's latest book Descent and I was expecting something way dirtier, grittier and darker. How the Hitman Stole Christmas was way more sweet and endearing than I expected it to be. However, I loved Autumn and her charismatic nature. It was hard not to love her caring and accepting nature. Jasper was a little harder to like because I think I was expecting him to be way more alpha, controlling and obsessive than he actually was. I wanted crazy from him! Haha. Overall, a nice read with angst, smut and action but definitely didn't scratch that dirty and dark itch.

Quickie Review

So this book was so so delightful! I absolutely LOVED this one so dearly. There was something so much more to this one. Now the book starts out a bit slow, but once we get through to about 25% of the book that is when the story really picks up. This book is a bit wild at times, especially how it begins. So you kinda need to suspend your belief on this one to really go with it. I will say that this is probably the most heartwarming romance that I have read from this author. I honestly think Mariano could make any scenario work, her writing is so powerful. The christmas themes to this story was so poignant and the deep emotion that is conveyed in this one was powerful. I just couldn't get enough of this romance. The sweet vulnerable moments that they have, the affection in front of his family, how charming they are together and how much they ache to be together in the end was so beautiful. I love that they were able to find the type of ending that they were able to and the connections to the Morelli Family was pretty amazing. I just loved seeing that.

I feel cheated and lied to by this blurb

"A book about a hitman!" it said.

"A book about a kidnapping!" it promised be.

"A dark romance!" it tried to convince me.

Well, IT lied! This was a Hallmark movie wrapped in a bookish bow. Okay, technically there w a s a kidnapping involved, but it was so mild and tame, the heroine just surrendered straight away and didn't even attempt to run once.

There was no angst, no dark elements, no usual Sam Mariano mind-fuckery. Only boring family meetings at Christmas time, baked goods extravaganza, mild frolicking in the snow while doing a snow angel (PG-13 doing, not the NC-21 'doing') and boring debates about the possibility of the hero to leave his profession.

And boy, am I disappointed by his profession! The title said Hitman, and my trusting and naive mind pictured a lone wolf, work-for-myself type of a hitman, but we got a lowly foot soldier for MATEO fucking MORELLI. And how absolute KING of a man is Mateo, if even without actually appearing in the book (maybe he appeared in the last 70% of the book, but i dnf'd it) he managed to make the hero of the book look bland and boring as a broccoli? To add insult to our hero's injury, it seemed that the hero himself was more attracted to Mateo Morelli than to his woman. Why else would the hero dreamily think about all the riches Mateo has, about his badass ways of protecting his loved ones, about the raw attractiveness and magnetism Mateo possesses. And one must not forget, how he lovingly referred to Mateo as King, which to be fair, no one can fault him for.

As a background device to showcase the LEGEND that is Mateo Morelli this book could do, but as a dark kidnapping Sam-Mariano-style romance this was a joke. In bad taste.

best part was catching up with the Morellis - even this little glimpse was great

this tstl heroine is okay because she was created by this author
not many authors can get away with writing a weak heroine like Ms Mariano did here
I like her; she adorable

same with this son-of-a-bitch hero - I like him - he's a bastard but she's it for him

they're an odd couple in an odd relationship but they'll last a lifetime together

he works for the mafia
she's just a lonely family-less gal
she has a bf who is a nonentity
hero kidnaps her
they pretend to be a couple for his family holiday gettogether
they get to know each other / like each other
some drama before they get together for their hea

Oh Sam- what a great Christmas gift!

This book is everything I love about Sam Mariano- a slightly unhinged, dominant alpha anti-hero, a softer, pliable heroine who easily (and mostly willingly) falls into his web, scorching steam, unusual relationship dynamics, and a highly unusual path to HEA and one that only really works for these two characters. Plus, it is in the Morelli world! AH- my favorite place to be.

This is actually the lightest/sweetest romance we’ve read from Sam. Jasper is delicious- but he’s a bit sweeter, more level (and less manipulative) than some of Sam’s other heroes, and Autumn has a bit more fight than my favorite Mia- but if you love Sam romances and relationship dynamics, this will feel familiar and delightful while also bring some fresh characters and a original story. Since it is a standalone, we do have some insta-love/insta-lust, but along the way Sam creates some surprisingly tender and emotionally intimate moments between these two that really helped them feel more emotionally connected.

This story also has a surprising amount of Christmas cheer for a darker/mafia/kidnapping trope- Sam weaves in charming, holiday moments that worked for the story, weren’t too cheesy, but still made this book feel festive.

If you are like me and Mateo/Mia are you favorites of all time, you’ll love this. And, if the Morelli’s weren’t your favs or if you haven’t started Sam, I think you’ll love this, too. This strikes the perfect balance. Fun, sexy, only slightly dark, and so delicious.

Loved the craziness!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: captive
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

I absolutely loved this book and was non-stop laughing out loud at the heroes antics. Jasper is completely off his rocker. He sees his little snowflake on the side of the road, decides to help her out, and then decides to keep her and the family Christmas presents she bought 🤷🏻‍♀️. Super entertaining with some interesting rationalization by the heroine, lol. Definitely a lighter, "crazy" read ❤

4.5!! ⭐️So I absolutely loved Jasper! However, he’s kinda a softy for a hitman. Even in the beginning when he kidnaps her he’s nice. I mean nice is cool but I think as his roll and being he stole her he probably should have been a little more mean lol ok that’s definitely a me problem 😂😂

This was a slow burn probably only 🌶️🌶️🌶️. The attraction is great and the storyline is great. It definitely leans towards attraction at first sight that she tries to resist.
