Jetty Man #1

Jetty Man

Rate this book
A memorable Southern Gothic trilogy in which a sensitive and innocent young man is continually victimized by the arbitrary cruelness and violence of brutal men. Mayport is a struggling community of hard living folks who condone the reprehensible behavior of cowards. The town folk mistake aggressiveness for strength -- and sensitivity as a sign of weakness. There is a palpable air of foreboding in these moving tales, which envelopes the reader like oppressive Florida humidity. G. W. Reynolds has a fine ear for natural dialogue and has created an authentic setting and atmosphere for this harrowing coming-of-age story.

I gotta say, I've never read a book like this before.. and books are becoming more and more predictable to me, I've grown tired of it. But I am so happy that I learned about this series. It's seriously screwed up, but also hopeful. Loved it!

This was a pretty weird book, one I probably would not have bothered finishing had the library been open.

I always appreciate a Florida writer, but the graphic descriptions of r*pe of women and minors was excessive and unnecessary.

Interesting and different. The characters are pretty rough & crass but I'm made to understand that is an apt representation culturally.

My family met this author at the Jax Book fest. When we learned the whole series is about the folklore of Mayport village, which is only a few miles from our home, we had to buy this book. It is a tragic story, but kept me wanting for more. The writing style was a bit rudimentary, but it made sense since the characters are simple folk. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and want to see if the tree is still in Mayport.
