Planning a reunion is going to get someone killed. . .
Edisto Beach Police Chief Callie Morgan has no desire to relive her senior year and the nightmare of a murder and a suicide that shook her high school to its core. But when the reunion committee convenes on Edisto Beach for a planning retreat, she has no choice. Every person on the committee could be a suspect in the unsolved murder, and one classmate, now a bestselling author, threatens to weave them into a tell-all true crime novel.
Until she disappears the first night of the committee retreat.
Callie must sort fact from fiction in a race against the clock to find a cold case murderer who may have just killed again.

The granddaughter of a Mississippi cotton farmer, Hope holds a B.S. in Agriculture with honors from Clemson University and 25 years’ experience with the U. S. Department of Agriculture to include awards for her management, all of which enable her to talk the talk of Carolina Slade, the protagonist in most of her novels. Her love of writing, however, carried her up the ranks to the ability to retire young, and she left USDA to pen her stories and freelance.
Lowcountry Bribe‘s won several awards to include finalist status of the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense sponsored by Romance Writers of America. The book went on to win the Silver Falchion Award for Crime Fiction twice and the EPIC E-book Award for Best Mystery three times.
Her books cover three mystery series in the Carolina Slade Mysteries, the Edisto Island Mysteries, and the Craven County Mysteries.

Trying to plan a high school reunion after the fifth, or possibly the tenth year following graduation, is a superhuman endeavor. As years start speeding past and people scatter farther and farther from their hometown, while simultaneously piling more and more responsibilities on their life schedules, trying to find a date, time, and venue to accommodate everyone is enough to urge the strongest-willed party planners to give up before they’ve even gotten started. Add to the mix an overzealous best selling author who happens to be on the reunion planning committee, who not only wants to cash in on dredging up a murder and suicide from their senior year, but after announcing her intentions, goes missing less than twenty-four hours after arriving for the reunion planning retreat, and now you have the ingredients for an Edisto Island Mystery – Book 7 to be exact, Reunion on Edisto. C. Hope Clark takes us back in time to show us a seventeen-year-old Callie Jean… Cantrell in those days, Morgan being her married name. Clark sets the stage and shows us why Callie ultimately chose the shield as her life’s work. It helps us understand at a deeper level why Police Chief Callie Morgan throws her entire being into every case she works. Callie has seen the devastation that can occur when the job is half-assed. A new group of characters are introduced and seamlessly blended into the Edisto regulars. As always, it is not necessary to have read any of the other books in the Edisto Island Mystery series to fully appreciate Reunion on Edisto as a stand alone story. As is also the case with any of C. Hope’s books, the action moves at breakneck speed. Due to this speed, your mind will whirl to the very end as she keeps you guessing the identity of the murderer and possible accomplice. The reality with which Clark writes makes you forget you are reading fiction, as each person you meet in the book is someone you are sure you already know in your own life. The details are so fine-tuned, it is hard to know if the story is truly made up, or if it borders on true crime, with the names changed to protect the real players. As this mystery is solved, C. Hope is, no doubt, in her own words attributed to her author character in the book, off to spin more tales, do more research… and I bet YOU will be digging out your own old yearbooks, reevaluating everyone you ever believed you once knew.
Reunion on Edisto is the new book from C. Hope Clark.
"Former high school classmates get together on Edisto Island to plan the next high school reunion. One of the classmates, JJ, now a famous author hijacks the conversation and blames everyone for being involved with the murder of their classmate, Wendy, during a football game their senior year. When JJ disappears, Police Chief Callie Morgan now must find the missing woman and try to solve a very old cold case."
I like how Clark finds a way to bring up a cold case that no one wants to see again but finds justice for the murdered girl and the boy who was accused. There are stereotypes but if you have ever visited the Low Country of SC you have run across people like Georgia, whose families took a chance on an island cabin and now have million-dollar properties. The story is addictive. Chief Morgan (Callie) is still fighting her demons and struggling not to turn into her high school self. And Clark makes us question what's really happening. Is there a missing person? Who really killed Wendy? And she gives us a character that everyone will despise - we all have a Butch in our background
This is the 2nd book I've read from Clark. It's great to have some crime fiction set in the Low Country. This is a fast-paced read from Clark.
Another fantastic read by C. Hope Clark! The gripping plot with its twists and turns keeps the reader captivated from beginning to end. With each book in the series, the reader learns more about the main character, Edisto police chief Callie Morgan. Callie's classmates from her senior class in high school descend upon Edisto Beach to plan their reunion along with rehashing a traumatic event from that school year. Clark masterfully reveals the history that has shaped the course of Callie's life in law enforcement, relationships, and sobriety while embedding familiar landmarks of SC's Low Country. As always, I feel like I am right there on Jungle Road as the story unfolds. Can't wait for Clark's next book to see how Callie continues to evolve!
Agatha Christie on Edisto Beach with Police Chief Callie Morgan and C. Hope Clark. That about sums up Reunion on Edisto, a more cerebral yet totally brilliant plot in a series of so many 'gee, I wish I'd written that' moments that this author envies.
The complex cast of characters rivals any Ms. Christie assembled. Georgia, the weekend getaway hostess and reunion planner with more than hors d'oeuvres to worry about. Libby and Tony, high school teacher and principal, openly flaunting a forbidden love affair. Butch, the arrogant newscaster with an addict's insatiable need for sex and alcohol. Reuben, the quiet intellectual nerd and patented millionaire. Peter, the reluctant-to-attend late arrival. And JJ, the best-selling author hoping to turn churned up facts and heated emotions around the cold case murder of a popular mutual high school classmate into a true crime block-buster.
The specter of unpleasant memories clouds nearly every page. Callie's past personal losses and fear of losing even more to the uniform and badge she can't retire. Her reason for passing up her family's legacy career in politics for police work lies squarely in the purpose and selection of the reunion committee invitees.
While Reunion on Edisto stands alone on the merits of the author's strong writing and mastery of her craft, I recommend snagging a copy of Murder on Edisto for the full effect of reader immersion and enjoyment of this mystery. Then move on to Edisto Jinx and keep reading.
A group of high school alums meet at a beautiful beach house on Edisto Island to plan a reunion. What could go wrong? Plenty. When one of the party, a well known author, reveals her plans to write a book about a murder/suicide of a classmate that touched all those assembled, resentments and old secrets soon make tempers reach the breaking point. And when the author seems to disappear into thin air, no one can be trusted. Thankfully, Edisto Beach Police Chief Callie Morgan is one of the alums.
Callie has lived with the gut feeling the death of the pretty cheerleader was blamed on the wrong person and the case closed too quickly. True to form, Callie leaves no stone unturned. And she finds some ugliness under those stones the teenaged Callie never knew about.
This fast paced, well plotted mystery will have you guessing and flipping pages as fast as you can. Ms. Clark's ability to draw well-defined characters comes in handy with this new cast of characters. And thankfully, we also get to see the usual residents of Edisto Beach that are like old friends by now.
Don't hesitate to buy this newest edition of the Edisto Island mysteries. Or better yet, start with the first book in this series and read forward. You won't be sorry.
I am always excited when my newest Edisto Island Mystery arrives in the mail, because it always takes me back to one of my favorite places. We live in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, spend a lot of time at our Myrtle Beach condo, but my year isn’t complete until we make our annual pilgrimage to Edisto. It’s like a newspaper from Edisto that keeps me up to date on the Island, such as the Bi-Lo about to become a Food Lion. But Reunion on Edisto was even more special to me. I graduated in 1969 and every five years we have a reunion, for which I’m on the planning committee. Even though I never have members staying at my house, I often have three or more classmates at my house for the reunion. Reading the book, I caught myself contemplating “what if” we had a classmate murdered. Which one of my classmates might have done it? What secrets on them, on me, might be discovered if the case was reopened. As a writer, albeit with much less renown than Hope, I found myself identifying not only with how far I’d go to write a #1 Best Seller, but also how much Hope drew upon herself in creating the writer character. Once again, if you’ve never been to Edisto Beach, go there. If you’ve never read an Edisto Island Mystery, start today. You’ll not be disappointed.
First - I love series, and I love detective stories. The Edisto/Callie Morgan books satisfy both loves. I found this book to be different from the others, it is more personal for CM, and gives us some insight into her past and her choice of profession. We meet a group from her high school graduating class, and while they fall into predictable stereotypes, they are all very true to life. Who has not had a jock and his sidekick, nerd, cheerleader, prima donna, and budding journalist in their high school? Throw in Callie and past teacher/current principal. Mix, and add a missing person...I read this in one day. Items of interest: Callie has a breakthrough of a romantic nature (but if THIS one ends tragically I may have to quit Edisto) Her buddy Stan is off island - unusual but easy to figure out why and verified at the end A few relationships hinted at and I never picked up on it, a surprise which pleased me Body count - one, nice change Be sure to read this book to the very last pages, all the way to author bio, and you may understand why I think this is the best of the Edisto books so far. I think I just may have to plan a visit there soon...
Reunion on Edisto by C. Hope Clark Review by Vivian Zabel Class reunions can be exciting for some former high schoolers, but for others, the experience brings pain and discomfort. The reunion committee meeting on Edisto Island discover reunions can be deadly when a famous author and suspects from a cold murder case are thrown together.
C. Hope Clark’s newest novel contains two of her memorable ingredients: action scenes that make the reader feel as if watching and a plot twist that satisfies the reader. In Reunion on Edisto, I could feel the pound of feet on packed wet sand, the sting of rain on skin, and the urgency. The author’s scattered clues came together in the twist to leave a satisfactory climax.
Police Chief Callie Morgan is a powerful woman protagonist, but her “humanness” shows, making her believable. I enjoy Hope Clark’s Edisto Island series more than any other. Reading a new novel is like returning for a visit to a community filled with people I know.
Chief Callie Morgan has her hands full on Edisto Beach, it's spring and people are flocking to the beach. Not to mention a gator who decides to join the crowd.
The high school reunion committee convenes on the island to plan the next reunion with only a select few superlative seniors, including Callie. A classmate and best-selling mystery writer has plans for them all. She hopes to solve the murder of a cheerleader at their high school twenty-four years ago and write a bestselling true crime book.
Each one on the committee is a suspect, having lies and secrets that need to come to light. One of them could very well be the murderer and our wayward author wants to stir the group into spilling whatever they have hidden.
Being a teen is hard enough without reliving the nightmare of a murder that was never solved. But Callie is up for the challenge. I love Hope's books and if you love a good mystery you will, too.
I was given a copy of the book by the author to read and review. I have read many of Author C. Hope Clark's books now, and just like the others, this one did not disappoint. She has become one of my go-to authors, indeed!
With "Reunion on Edisto," Clark once again weaves unexpected plot twists through unexpected dialogues that lead the reader to outcomes he/she would never expect. I really enjoyed how the author weaved a character into the storyline who was herself an author. I also enjoyed getting to know more of Chief Callie Morgan's backstory, including what may have prompted her law enforcement career.
Now I just really want Callie to settle into a strong relationship that helps her continue to recover from a sometimes dark and sad past!
I highly recommend this book, and the entire series to anyone who likes a good mystery that keeps you turning the pages from start to finish without pause.
This is another book in the Edisto Island series. This book references earlier books, but stands alone if you have not read any of the others. This book quickly lured me in,and the pace accelerated. Several former classmates have gathered together. The cold case of the death of a classmate is brought up. One of those gathered is an author who plans to write about it. One of the classmates goes missing. Was it part of her own plan, was she kidnapped/killed? There were several twists in the plot, and I found myself speculating who the culprit(s) could be. Several to choose from! C. Hope Clark also gives us insight into Callie's thoughts and decisions to go into law enforcement. I really enjoyed this book. The pace, the setting, the plot were just what I was looking for!

I just finished this latest Edisto book of Hope Clark and it was a page turner for sure! I didn’t or couldn’t figure out who did it until the very end. She didn’t disappoint in this newest book. When I read her books, not just this one, I always feel like I am right there in the story with Callie. She always amazes me, I would think after reading all her books that I could figure out how she was going to end the book, but I don’t find that I do figure them out. That is rare with a author. Other authors I have read after several of the series I usually can figure out how it’s going to end. Hope had a great gift with her writing and has me guessing every time! That’s the way it should be. Awesome read for sure!
This is part of on an on-going series, and while I haven't read any of the previous books I had no problem following this one.
Police chief Callie is trying to deal with early vacationers, a new love interest, a wild gator and a high school reunion planning weekend. That's a lot going on! A carefully selected group of people are meeting at a classmate's beach house in hopes of planning their high school reunion - not knowing they were selected by another classmate, who's a mystery writer. Her plans are to expose who killed a cheerleader when they were in high school.
The story moved slowly in the beginning and seemed to end pretty quickly, things got wrapped up fast.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary digital ARC in return for my review
I was fortunate to get a pre-release peak at this new Edisto mystery and it's as good as it gets. Police Chief Callie Morgan has more to deal with than just your ordinary highjinks on Edisto when a woman from her past disappears after hinting that long lost secrets were going to be revealed in her new book. There are plenty of suspects to look into from that past, some Callie hasn't seen in years, some who are right there on her beach for a reunion. Callie is going to find out things she never knew, while having to relive the ones she's done her best to forget, and figure out what happened to the controversial author. Don't wait to dive into this new mystery - you won't be disappointed.
Another burst of brilliant literature from the fertile devious mind of outstanding author C Hope Clark. Reunion on Edisto. Seven books on Edisto five on Carolina Slade. More on the way. If you do not have all of the books in both series you are as wrong as three left feet. Suspects galore. A twenty-four year old unsolved vicious murder still haunts. This tale is not for the faint of heart nor the dim of wit. One spell binding scene leads to another intense incident. Then back, again. A page turner and a cliff hanger. A mountain of clues all pointing in different directions. I know the ending. You will have to buy this most excellent book to find out.
This was one of my favorite C. Hope Clark books. Edisto Police Chief Callie Morgan has been chosen along with other Superlatives from her high school graduating class to meet for the purpose of organizing a 20th high school reunion. One participant who is a best selling author has other plans in an effort to write a true crime novel based on a true story of the tragic death of one of their high school classmates. Who really killed Wendy? There are so many twists and turns. So many times it seemed the answer was evident only to be questioned yet again. I highly recommend this read if you enjoy a good mystery😀
This is book 7 in the Edisto Island Mysteries series. It can be read as a stand alone, I've missed a couple. Police Chief, Callie, is not looking forward to her high school reunion and the return of her classmates. She's still searching for the killer of her fellow classmate, Wendy. Author JJ hopes to get a new book out of the reunion by writing a story about the murder. One of their classmates isn't happy about the idea of a book and when JJ disappears, Callie is afraid that there might be two murders to solve. A few twists and turns. Another good story by C. Hope Clark. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Reunion on Edisto is part of the Edisto mystery series. This was my first book and the most recent of the series, I was also told by my local coffee shop/bookstore that I didn’t need to read them in order. I will say there was a blip in Callie’s (who is the Chief of police) past that made me say “wow what the heck happened to her?” There are also some references about her past but it doesn’t interfere with the plot. This is a guessing who did it all the way up to the end. This book is a perfect casual read so if you’re looking for a mystery this summer look no further.
I'm a big fan of the Edisto Island Mystery series, so it was great to burn through another page-turner in Callie's little slice of beach. Reunion follows a band of old high school classmates trying to plan an upcoming reunion. But what was billed as an all-expenses-paid weekend vacation for the group goes wrong when the most famous of the bunch goes missing. From that point on, you never know who to trust, who's conspiring with who, or what motives are driving each character. I highly recommend picking this one up!
REUNION ON EDISTO is a fast paced read with many twists and turns. I couldn't put the book down and was on the edge of my seat throughout. The characters are interesting and well defined. It is impossible to deduce the guilty party; it could be any or all of them! As usual with C. Hope Clark's books, REUNION ON EDISTO is an enthralling read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I eagerly awaited another book in the Edisto murder mystery series. As a frequent visitor to Edisto, it is so fun to read about the locations I am very familiar with; The Sea Cow, the new Food Lion, Pompono Street, Jungle Road, etc... I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the next murder mystery. This particular book would have been harder to read and understand without having read the previous books. I eagerly await the next book.
I haven't read the other Edisto books, but I felt this one stood alone pretty well. For a mystery that's not a cozy, the plot felt a bit over the top. Still, it was an enjoyable read, and I liked the main character a lot. Though the plot was a little much, the characterization and psychological insights saved it for me!
Review copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Clark offers a mystery within a mystery as former high school classmates gathering to plan a reunion are drawn back into the past, sparking old memories and emotions. Clark's descriptions of settings on Edisto evoke a strong sense of place, and protagonist Callie is a character readers can root for. The book's pace picks up as the novel accelerates toward an ending that ties up loose ends with some unexpected twists. A satisfying read for mystery lovers.
A great addition to a terrific series. Wonderful to return to Edisto and enjoy the challenges that Callie has to endure as police chief. A cold case becomes the focus of the reunion committee. Did one of them do it? Have fun figuring it out along with Callie and her former high school classmates. Thanks to the author for providing a copy for my voluntary review.
Oh wow, another home run from C. Hope Clark. What could be better than a class reunion (the planning stage) on the beach in March. What a cast of characters for Callie to deal with on her beautiful island of Edisto Beach. I loved this book and you will too. Run don’t walk to your favorite bookstore and pick up a copy of REUNION on EDISTO!
I spent the whole book wondering who did it? I guessed correctly, but doubted myself the whole way. Callie Morgan is at her detective best in this book. My only complaint is not seeing enough of my favorite character Sophie Bianchi! I'd love to see a plot where Sophie actively helps solves a mystery alongside Callie.
I started reading your books January 7th with "Murder in Craven", and I have read all of Carolyn Space and just finished with Edisto, all of Chief Called! I am now feeling book deprived because there is not another one. Hated to put them down! 2/27/2022 Please tell you have one in the making! Love them all!
Intriguing from the beginning. Especially enjoyed Reunion while I was experiencing a visit and reunion on Edisto Beach. The story made my visit come alive at every street turn and restaurant visit. Callie is involved in a personal mystery and the story kept me turning page after page!
Another great mystery for Callie Morgan to solve. With her usual intuitiveness, Callie works her way through the clues and figures out "who did it". A delightful read that keeps the reader guessing through every page to keep up with Callie.
