5 Killer Habits by Sree Krishna Seelam is a curated book of five chapters – each consisting of a short summary of habits a person from any age group can take up at any stage in life. The chapters talk about the concepts of rising up early (preferably around 5 AM), volunteering, reading books, solo-travel, and lastly – but in my opinion the concept which would be my most important take away – developing a scientific mindset.
The first four concepts are something I have come across in lots of media and non-fiction books and most of the times been preached about them from my family and friends as well. When I say ‘preached’, it is because the language of the book comes off as preachy – I am wondering if it was intended as such. This language can be difficult to digest for people who are already adults – once you start earning even a handful of money you start thinking you are invincible. I am more open to opinionated books, but I still felt the language could have been a little more inclined towards proving the point than claiming them to be true from the start itself. One example of such claims includes the hard and fast rule with which the author says that waking up at 5AM and going for a run is a ready-made cure for depression. Though I am sure it supports in battling depression, it can’t cure it. In that area this claim came off as a little harsh on the victims. There are other such claims for example comparison between retirement age and life expectancy, reading books and getting better jobs, falling in love at a young age and its positive impact on responsibility (*eye roll*), which are highly debatable as they are weighed on a solitary scale. There are also grammatical and punctuation errors in the book – “In 1997, a boat captain Charles Moore, while sailing home to California, he was surprised to see a massive island in the Pacific Ocean spread over thousands of kilometres.” Couldn't 'he' have hired an editor?
However, coming to the most important bit, the last chapter – I have read very few such books which dare to question religion especially in the current Indian atmosphere where you are safer to commit a crime than question the authority, the army, or the religion. This chapter, however brief, instills curiosity in the mind of the reader even if that curiosity is anger. To that curious reader I would suggest another book for a detailed criticism on religion – Riddles in Hinduism by B.R. Ambedkar. I liked the Chinese Whispers analogy which the author uses to explain how religious teachings also were bound to be manipulated over centuries.
Overall, this is an honest work with a sincere effort for anyone who wants to dive into questioning and changing their life.

The concept behind these 5 killer habits mentioned in the book are quite simple but there are a few lines which makes us eager and curious to read further. The basic idea is to inculcate discipline and building personality in one’s own life. This book helps us to make ourselves grow as an individual and also making this human society a beautiful world which was indeed the ultimate goal of the book. Each Chapter gives a brief description about each Habit.

In Chapter 1, The author specifically states that the secret behind success is becoming an early bird, getting enough sleep, and planning your day effectively. He also gave us his own experiences and efforts in saying that waking up early has changed his approach to life. In Chapter 2, the author started off by mentioning real life personalities who were called as hero’s as they sacrificed not only a part of their time, resources but also their own life for the wellbeing of others. According to author, every human must develop his/her personality by building their characters. In Chapter 3, the author throws light on travelling which is quite interesting. In my opinion travelling is one of the crucial parts of human life, as it helps to experience life in different ways and exploring new places, cultures, cuisines which brings out a widened scope to move into new directions of life. In Chapter 4, The author focusses on importance of reading, he says that apart from imparting knowledge, it helps us to see the world in different angles making us empathetic. Reading also makes you understand people better and improves your decision-making skills over emotional one’s by thinking practically towards life. In Chapter 5, the author brings out another interesting habit of being curious. Staying curious will help us stay active and focused making us understand the world and ourselves better.

Overall, it was one of the best books I have read so far, as it helped me to understand various factors and assumptions which was really motivating and also inspiring. I absolutely recommend every individual, especially the youth to read the book and inculcate these killer habits.

A must read for people from all walks of life and every generation to take life inspiring cues from. Seldom does one come across an author/writer who leaves an impact so indelible and thought provoking that the reader reflects and introspects on the true values that add to the beauty of life.
This inspirational book does just that – it leaves the reader spellbound in a world of all things beautiful and meaningful!!
The book is a must read for its riveting take on life and the smooth transition with which it demystifies myths and debunks fallacies.
It is a trajectory of what is essentially “meaningful” in life and the joy of holistic learning, healing, being happy and giving back to society. A truly riveting take on what really matters and it encompasses a prudent approach from how one can mould oneself into a better human being to how one can be altruistic and lend their prowess to the betterment of society. If even one person can change their mindset and behaviour post reading this honest tell-all narrative, then it serves the purpose of sharing the idea for generations to come.
It is mesmerizing and also captivating when one grasps how simple activities in everyday life actually characterizes the successful measure one takes even if they are actually following a simple routine of waking up early and sleeping sufficiently.
Sit back and traverse the realm of magnanimity and altruism with this amazing read. This will widen the horizons of fathoming life and make everything worthwhile

'5 Killer Habits: Be a Rebel' is a must read. When i started reading the book I was unable to stop until i complete the whole book. The insights which I received through the book is surprising and i recommend every enthusiastic reader who is looking for an experience of Renaissance. Since the scientific explanations and research reports are inculcated, the author’s perspective becomes plausible. Solo travelling is glorified and opinionated that by emanating it in life can restrain bigotry and reach mindful equilibrium avoiding mental conundrums caused by material and extravagant life. The book apprise the readers to be a dromomaniac, a minimalist who suck the essence of knowledge out of travels and experiment with truth. It can be comprehended that the book align with fundamental rights and constitutional ideology in the inner core. Secularism, scientific temper and syncretism are promoted by the author. Book puts forward that volunteerism and individual efforts are the foundational bedrock of a better and safer world.

This book, in my opinion, is essential reading. I am confident that it will benefit readers who are experiencing a variety of problems. This book has aided in overcoming difficult circumstances. Being an insomniac and experiencing continuous sleeplessness, reading chapter one and being able to relate to it and the author's advice are quite beneficial. In this book, the author offers five practises for becoming a wonderful person—the undervalued term. He advises that we travel alone based on those behaviours. Ironically, I've never been a travel enthusiast, but reading this book while travelling has made me appreciate the brief times I do get to travel and how much a solitary trip may mean to me. Being an atheist, I've always wondered why there's a need to investigate religion, but this book has inspired me to do so as well. So a few of my core values changed as a result of reading this book, and I'm happy about it. So, I wholeheartedly suggest it.

This book goes over some of the most crucial habits to develop.
People who are not born with these habits will be able to recognise their importance and will work hard to instil them. The book lays out a path to self-actualization. The necessity of creating beneficial habits in one’s life and the function it plays in personal growth are discussed in lengths by the author. He looks into many aspects of a person’s life and emphasises the importance of different experiences like travelling, volunteering for a cause, and so on. The author outlines the five habits of a rebel. This book is filled with real-life comparisons and examples, as well as research and other information, making it more realistic. The finest part of this book, in my opinion, is how the author not only gave us guidance on how to form a habit, but also went a step further by providing us a real-world tip and sharing his experiences on how to do so in real life. This book not only informs you what to do, but it also tells you what not to do. He investigates many facets of a person's life and emphasises the need of various experiences such as travelling, volunteering for a cause, and so on. The author brings an interesting mix of knowledge to the table for the readers by including diverse studies, reports, and interviews with older folks. In addition to raising the reader's level of self-awareness, the book works to raise the reader's social and environmental consciousness by raising issues such as low life expectancy in countries due to pollution, water pollution, depletion of natural resources, extinction of animals, rising crime rate and its causes, and so on.

From my own personal experience, this book is not less than a guide and gives you a good base if you want to make your life worthwhile and meaningful. As the cover page of the book suggests, the book is divided into 5 chapters, each analysing a killer habit, having a life changing impact...these habits can and will help you with your life and improve your productivity and become self-controlled. Pretty solid ideas has been shared by the author through his real life experiences that has an appealing impact on the readers. After reading the book and inculcating these habits i could realise that it really helps become dynamic in life and live better...however,in aggregate, all of these habits take up a quite a lot of time and managing them consistently is a challenge. But nothing comes for free in life and trying something new never hurts!! So if you want to change your life, change your habits and be a rebel!!

The book is about a lot of things, but to summarise it, it basically tells the reader about living your life to the fullest. From having a healthy sleeping schedule, exploring different things in life, travelling solo, staying curious in life and becoming a better human being altogether, this book surely has something for every reader to be intrigued and learn from. The book is a very well written piece of literature with simple language which makes it fun to read and learn things from and I really appreciate the candid way the author Mr. Sree Krishna Seelam has put it all together. The best aspect about this book is that the revenue collected from it goes to charity, helping girls to go to school and get an education for themselves to be precise. The book is always on point and no part of it seems like a drag because it is so thoughtfully and precisely written. One can just directly feel that the author has a deep message to convey and it is not just a forcefully written book to make money out of. Bottom line, this book makes for a very good read and can teach you a lot of things in life and I can recommend it to almost anyone, especially to the people in their youth. Kudos to the author and to everyone who must’ve helped him in writing this book!

I enjoyed it reading thoroughly. This made me so motivated to change my habits from now only. This book beautifully describes the importance of becoming a REBEL. It speaks about those things we follow in our regular life but never went inside to explore those in such manner. This book will show you the key to success. It excites you to something like this. It has very simple language to flow away while reading it. It is the empowerment to increase curiosity behind every tasks. It enlightens to live a life better than you actually do. I am quite happy after reading the book because i got clarity about fake things. We follow certain habits but not good practices which can make us better humans. Getting up early and preparing ourselves to construct an inquisitive decision that would be transformative in our journey and through reading, we can live a thousand lives were some of the ideas I liked when I read the book earlier. This book covers all the habits which can help you in your personality development and life.

This book is very influential. Unlike many books I've read termed ‘self help’ this book is not about telling you the right or wrong way of conduct, this book gives you the base for yourself to decide the right and wrong. The language is simple and the way of explaining things is easy and relatable. It personally followed the getting up at 5 formula and it helped me a lot in managing a lot of stuff in my life. It doesn’t force upon the reader a particular habit or ideology, it gives you the space to explore. The author’s quote, ‘discipline is like a disease, it spreads very quickly’ is my personal favourite. The way the author described solo travelling and volunteering has inspired me to give it a try which I couldn't have thought of before reading this book. The discussion on religion is not anti religion or anti god, it's a very positive view on the need of rational thinking before giving in to religion. This is definitely a game changer and a must read!!

The book is cool and intriguing if you are a teenager and are confused about life, however, the way it would affect your intellect is the topic of a separate conversation. It is quite detached from reality and seems like it lacks major research, and is poorly written. I would have enjoyed listening to a kid whine more than I did this book. I'd suggest against reading it if you are looking to read strong pieces of literature, because this one is a waste of time.

It is not that much good that was anticipated by me though has some value. It's repetitive in nature. it has It's own aura but I feel it's for kids who ain't into reading and really want something. But not for those who really demands sophisticated content.

When I first read this book, it felt like some snob was telling me what to do with my life. I tried inculcating these habits in my daily routine just to experiment if it would really bring any significant change. Once I practised these 5 habits for a week and read the book again, it changed my entire perspective. I actually understood what the author was trying to say because I experienced those things during that week. Getting up early was actually a game changer. I felt more energetic and happy the entire week than I have ever felt. I volunteered at an NGO and that feeling of our work actually helping others and meaning something is out of the world. I read 2 non-fiction books throughout the week, and it felt like I was there, living their lives through their minds. One habit that I am yet to practise is travelling alone, but I am sure I’ll go on a solo trip within the next month. The one thing I loved the most about the book was that I could read it in one-go. The language and the content were so captivating that I couldn't do anything else before completing the book, even around the second time I read it. One thing I would really suggest to everyone is to read it and actually practise these habits and re-read the book again. Trust me, you will actually enjoy the entire experience.

Having myself found the opportunity to read this book free of cost on Kindle, I found it’s content to be simple and relatable yet so brain stimulating that you find yourself filled with number of questions and your curiosity level sky rocketed. It encouraged me to reflect on how simplest of simple action like going to be bed early, waking up early and reading can bring about such a tremendous change in one’s life while contributing a great deal in the building of one’s personality.
Moreover, this book was written with the aim of achieving such a noble cause of educating young girls from the lesser fortunate section of our society hence every penny earned will be donated towards uplifting their lives.
Furthermore, this book encourages one to live life from a whole new perspective and with a higher purpose by being selfless to our fellow earthlings and Mother Earth.

I would definitely recommend this book to people from all aspects of life and age and rate it 5 out of 5

5 Killer Habits - Be a Rebel is a refreshing take on self-help that feels less preachy and more like a conversation with a wise friend. The author shares five habits that challenge you to live boldly and think differently: wake up with purpose, step up as a leader, read to expand your world, stay curious, and travel to grow.

What makes this book stand out is how real and practical it feels. Seelam doesn’t throw around empty advice; instead, he blends wisdom from 1,000 senior citizens with insights from great books to create lessons that actually resonate. The tone is inspiring yet down-to-earth, and the habits feel doable no matter where you are in life.

If you’re feeling stuck or just looking for a fresh perspective on how to live more fully, this book is a quick, impactful read that might just nudge you to take that first step.

I find the book pretty interesting and have read it thoroughly; I myself follow the habit of early going to bed and early rising and I it really helps me to be active for the whole day, other being a hero about being a volunteer i would say as I'm a teacher by profession and I'm already bringing and trying to bring a change in the life of my students. Thirdly, travelling really helps a lot in knowing ourselves better. Being curious in life really helps you in learning and experiencing more and more getting into the core of everything to come across especially your conscience. And talking about living 100 of lives through reading is the best experience I want to have as I'm a book worm this was the most apt example that you can give to motivate a non-reader to read books. Also, this books has helped me to find a purpose to live after my retirement from teaching!😀 I want to share all of these habits with my students and motivate them to be a better person.

“5 Killer Habits: Be A Rebel” is remarkable. This book is really an inspiring with lots of good life lessons and also with experiences of author himself. He didn’t just explain what will benefit you, he also explain how you can execute that in your life. The way author conveyed everything through different chapters is eye-opening as one tends to dazzle while reading and understand the message evidently. honestly this book is best for those who just arrive at the path of adulthood. But I recommend this book for every age group as I believe that a person can change his habits and lifestyle at any point of his life.

This book explains habits we need to adapt in order to be a successful and a rebellious person which is depicted by the book's name. Author says in the book that including those habits in our lifestyle will make us a better human being and to make this earth a better place for younger generation to live .
My favourite chapter from this book is to fall in love with reading as it increases our mental growth .
As being a non reader I loved this book so much to aspire for every possible thing in this world. And second favourite is to become a volunteer in life. Everyone should have a purpose which gives meaning to life. I can see the difference after reading this book. Worth spending time and efforts in reading this book.

Nice book
The world-building is so fully fleshed out and spine-tinglingly terrifying that it's almost as if the author travelled to such a place, escaped from it, and then just wrote it all down.

My friend recommended this book to me. It took just 3 hours to read and feel. I loved this book from the beginning. The first thing the author addressed is about the issue of sleep and waking up, in order to be productive. I loved the way he has written it. He did mention the thing again and again, so that, the reader would get the point straight into his/her mind. In fact, after completing it, I felt the importance of waking up in the morning and having a proper sleep and got the motivation to do the same. The way in which the author has given the titles attracted me the most. After reading, just by skimming the titles, we could recall the things. The addition of some real life incidents and the author's personal life experiences made the book more relatable to me. Overall, a good book to read.
