Courtney Michelle Love (born Courtney Michelle Harrison) is an American rock musician and Golden Globe-nominated actress. Love is best known as lead singer, songwriter and lyricist for the now-defunct alternative rock band Hole and for her two-year marriage to late Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain. Rolling Stone has called Love "the most controversial woman in the history of rock".
This is a picture book with not much to read (besides the materials used for the art) but I'm counting it anyway because I have spent two full days looking over and over this book. I love it! Or, I should say, I love the artwork. I am not a fan of Courtney Love at all. I don't dislike her and I actually think she's probably a nice person and she's authentic, which is rare. I would trust her more than I would the average person as I think there's nothing going on behind the scenes that you can't trust -- she certainly puts it all out there and I like that -- It's just that I was never into the grunge scene and I can't relate to any of that really --- the drugs and stuff have always scared me and I've just never been able to relate to the things she's into. It all seems rather dark to me and I try to stay on the light side -- sorry if that sounds obnoxious. Anyway, I do love art and I saw somewhere that she'd done these paintings some years ago (or really, watercolors and oil pastels and soft pastels on paper) and I started trying to find out more --to see more of what she'd done and there really wasn't much out there but I did find this book. I ordered it --It was not cheap - 50 bucks for a very small book! But I'm glad to have it as there were only 1500 copies made and they were to go along with the showing of her work, which I believe was in 2012. I think she is a fantastic artist and I love these pieces so much! I would kill to have one in my bedroom -my favorite is "Return the Punisher" which I saw online but sadly, is not in the book. :( But there are I think, 50 of her pieces in the book and they are incredible. Her use of color is brilliant and her pictures look very much how you would expect pictures drawn by Courtney to look -- like her but also a beautiful, bright mess. She's very whimsical and romantic but there is also blood and knives and pain. And not, "I'm an artist and therefore in paaaaiinnnnn..." kind of stuff, but like her, authentic, real hurt and pain as we all have. I'm glad to have this little book and will treasure it as it is very unique. Courtney, if you read this, You said you only spent a year or so doing these pieces and now you're back to music, but could you please do some more artwork? I know it's a long shot but I could start saving my pennies and maybe one day own one of your pieces....
