The Sheep Dragon – it sounds insane, but asking a young dragon to watch over a flock of magical sheep might just be Timmy’s ticket to financial freedom.

To earn his pardon and help Everton win the war against the Eternal Empire, Timmy – Grand Necromancer extraordinaire – has his work cut out for him. Thankfully, he’s not alone. He has an elite team of questionable characters to help him turn the tide.

There’s his pint-sized apprentice who dreams of becoming the Supreme Necromancer. It’s a pity she’s more adorable than menacing. There’s the pyromaniacal elf who isn’t into saving the innocent so much as she’s into smiting (and robbing) the wicked. There’s the ancient vampire whose penchant for getting stabbed has led to a drastic reduction in her wardrobe.

There’s the legendary swordsman who’s so legendary that he might actually die of old age instead of meeting his end in battle. There’s the timid bureaucrat whose knack for almost getting eaten is matched only by his knack for paperwork. There’s the dwarf who wants to build a golem so huge it can make a dragon cry uncle.

And then there’s the young dragon whose hunger knows no bounds. Nobody is safe. Not pineapples. Not bandits. Not even giant, mutant cows.

The Sheep Dragon is a collection of fourteen short stories set before, during, and after the first four parts of The Unconventional Heroes Series. Each story addresses questions of world-shaking importance like:

Is it possible for a young dragon to watch over a flock of sheep without those sheep ending up in his stomach?

What do necromancers actually do at necromancer conventions?

And what is the best way to deal with a surprise demonic invasion?

Timmy and the gang aren’t the heroes anyone expected, but they’ll get the job done. Somehow. With plenty of property damage.

I'm a reader and writer with a keen interest in psychology, history, physics, and economics. I'm especially interested in the intersection of these different areas (e.g., the psychology behind the sub-prime mortgage collapse).

In terms of fiction, I enjoy reading horror, fantasy, science fiction, Westerns, and thrillers. I believe that every genre has its good points, and I want to be able to incorporate all of these strengths into my own writing.

I currently live in Australia. When I'm not writing, I'm busy trying to fend off all of the deadly wildlife.

If you're interested in my fiction, you can find it on Amazon here.

And with that, I'm officially caught up. This is a sad day for me because I love these books and I want more of their antics, both in the main story and in these glorious short stories. There is just nothing like them that I've come across before, and that's a good thing coming from someone who is not typically a fan of the fantasy genre. But yeah, I won't delve too much into this entry specifically because of spoilers, but these are 14 great stories that flesh out just about every character, lay some groundwork for the upcoming book or books, and in one story, they even got me to shed a couple tears, and books don't generally make me cry. So yeah, again, I loved this and I want more, preferably in audiobook format with Fred Berman narrating again. His voices are the only way I will accept hearing this world now.

I don't write reviews very often. But this series is an exception. While this series is not perfect by far, it is one of the most heartfelt series I have read in a LONG time.

There is a ton of, "the milk of human kindness." The author does a tremendous job of depicting how hard it is to be different. The way they have fleshed out the main characters is superbly done.

If you want a fantasy series (and short stories books) about a bunch of extremely over powered unconventional heroes AND you don't mind books that are a little emotional, then this is the series for you.

The downsides are:

The book is a little repetitive.

High degree of anthropomorphism.

Heroes are over powered.

Even with these, which occasionally make me roll my eyes, the character development is 100% worth it. My eyes have teared up more in this series than probably anything I have read in 10 years.

This was a great selection of short stories, many giving the histories of characters that now reside in Timmy's castle. We get an insight into a ninja rat's life which is interesting. Several of the stories feature Spot. I'm really curious to see how he's going to fit into everyone's lives once he grows to be hundreds of feet long. Gerald the bureaucrat's backstory is told. There is also a story about when Timmy and Vicky (and James) were in school.

(It's been awhile so I should re-read how Timmy and Katie became necromancers and some of the other character's background stories)

I think Katie has turned eleven in one of the stories and I'm sort of sad to see her grow up. She's been so cute as a child prodigy. Her choices in what she perceives as suitable necromantic robes are amusing.

All in all a fun read.

Love this book/series, laughs and pure enjoyment each!

I’ve read all of Timmy and the Gang’s adventures so far and found something to laugh aloud about almost every page! His SyFy and Fantasy stories are presented with new & different ideas from any other Authors’ work I’ve read, so his writing is really exciting.
He creates characters that I can somehow relate to, even without owning a dragon or living near a Necromancer. I agree with and enjoy the musings about life, Bureaucracy and family an awful lot too!
I vacillated between reading fast due to the fun, and setting the book down and walking away to prolong my reading- I need these books in my life, don’t stop the brilliant writing here! Thank you

I love the Unconventional Heroes series and was very excited for the second short story collection. And overall, I enjoyed reading more about the heroes and some of the minor characters. The stories are packed with a lot of funny, exciting, and action-packed moments, and provide interesting insight into the world and the past of Timmy, Avraniel, Gerald, Katie & Co. Also, I'm living for every Timmy and Vicky moment! However, I also feel that some of the stories were just too long. Reading them felt a bit laborious, which is why I didn't enjoy this book as much as the other books in the series.
Still, I definitely recommend reading The Sheep dragon to anyone who loves the series as much as I do.
I can't wait for the next book!

L.G. Estrella equals or surpasses her first short story collection. As usual, some of my favorites are from the point of view of the non-human characters: Spot, a young dragon, young ninja rats working to enter into the special forces used for protecting the two necromancers in the castle, and Amanda, the ancient vampire who grew up thousands of years ago, and lives a life of melancholy remembering past friends and loves. She's fairly entertained living with the two necromancers and their crew.

You can read this or the other collection without reading any of the novels in the series.

But don't neglect reading the series, either.

I've been holding onto this book for so long, eagerly awaiting the next one from L.G. Estrella. Let's talk about this amazing series with its fantastic characters that I wish were real and my friends. My top short stories include the one about Gerard, the timid but wonderful bureaucrat, the ninja rats, and the tales about Timmy and Katie, and Timmy and Vicky. I adored all of the characters, and I just can't wait for the next one to come out!
PS. I always prefer Fred Berman's narration for this series as he does an exceptional job.

3.75⭐

This was a bit of a slow read for me because of life happening, the book being big and because not all of the stories being hits. There were some great stories, some that had elements of great and a few were just plain difficult to get through. Any story with Spot was a win. And I think I'm calling for Timmy a bit, even though he's oblivious to a certain Supreme Cleric having feelings for him.

I’ve enjoyed this series by LG Estrella, and I’m normally not a fan of short story collections as they’re often the B side material - not quite good enough for the mainline novels and not essential to the plot.

However, I really enjoyed both this and the previous collection (book 3.5). Not only do they fill in some plot gaps, but they provide some relatively low stakes, low stress glimpses at the characters and their everyday lives.

I’m looking forward to book 5, any news? 😀

Some stories I enjoyed, some not so much. I was always curious about Old Man's story, but I liked his story the least here. His story felt pretty long, but I felt like I hadn't learnt much about him and his past. And it also made me sad when Timmy and Spot talked about future and how Spot is going to outlive most of them. I hope we never get to see that.
With all that said, I'm excited for the next book in the series.

Worth The Wait

I'm a huge fan of the author and these stories are filled with adventure, action, and fun from one of my favorite series. The next novel in the series promises to be excellent and these stories make the wait worthwhile. If you like creativity, humor, and action in your supernatural tales then these stories are for you.

Thoroughly enjoyable fantasy. These are not high literature, but they are not meant to be. All the characters are beautifully rendered, which gives the reader a reason to care about them. I chuckle regularly reading Estrella's books. They are a welcome respite from Real Life and from reading heavier fare.

Read as an audio book. Since this was a collection of short stories and novellas set between the main series, I read them off and on over the course of a couple months between other audio books. Very enjoyable - almost enjoyed these more than Two Necromancers books because they were a bit shorter.

Very enjoyable

I enjoyed being able to learn more about the characters and their back stories. It was also a good length. Many books in this syle are short quick reads. This felt like it added to the series.

Great love the characters and love the stories

It was nice to read about the group as individuals. Some stories about how they got to where they are, and some about individual trips or small groups. I want to know more and hope the author wants to tell their stories.

Lots of stories

Adjacent storytelling leads to attention I suspect. There's a few stories that really got my attention focused. Good Summer read with enough side issues to write to friends on a long weekend.
