Pretty Broken

This is the story of how I’ve been broken over and over again. These are the thoughts I had to get out so that my heart could mend. pretty broken is a raw and reflective journey through adolescence that explores the shattering realities of life and the strength required to pick up the pieces. This poetry collection takes readers through the ugliest parts of life in hopes of finding the true beauty in the broken. It uncovers honest thoughts often tucked away in the darkest of places in hopes of providing solace to anyone who reads it. This book serves as a reminder not to judge a book by it’s pretty little cover.

“do better for you not better for me”

This collection follows the author’s struggles from childhood into adulthood. As the author wrote, “I wrote this for me. I made this for you,” and it reads that way, beautifully. I enjoyed the movement through life and pain, specifically dealing with family and parents’ shortcomings. I appreciated the connotation that we can all identify with one another’s pains, even if they’re completely different.

There is some gorgeous writing in this book. However at times, the writing fell flat for me (but it might be the depression I live with who knows). I overall enjoyed the book but moments that I almost put the book down just because it was going slow.

Heart aches

My heart is broken for the one that wrote this but also for me because she spoke and wrote of what we both see.
