The Humor In Birth: Stories and Insight From a Doula
As a certified birth doula, Micah Burgess has attended over two hundred home or hospital births. She also has had six of her own birth experiences - five homebirths using natural birth methods and one emergency C-section just twenty-seven weeks into her sixth pregnancy. During many of those birth experiences, Micah encountered some hilarious situations and people. With her Texas charm and wit, Micah lets new and experienced moms everywhere see that the craziness that sometimes accompanies childbirth is neither odd nor unique - and is often quite funny. In her breakthrough first book, Micah shares several of the insights and humorous stories collected from the journey with her clients.

Micah is a wonderful story teller! She does a great job of bringing out the humor even in hard situations. Those wanting to be pregnant will be reassured that they too can have a positive birth experience. Same for who are pregnant. Those who have given birth will remember their experiences and can, hopefully, find the humor in it. This book is for Dads, who need to know more of how to support those Moms, for Moms of the women giving birth, for sisters, for friends!
Yes, she tells our story too. And I love hearing our story told from a different point of view. Honestly, I only remember Micah as she coached me, encouraged me and exhorted me towards getting what I really wanted, a VBAC. Yes, my hubby was there and he is in a few memories. My son was there cheering me on, but I don't remember him. So, I'm glad Micah did, so that I get to read how wonderful he was in that time.
Thank you, Micah, for telling our story.

I received a copy of this book as a gift and it was so entertaining and informational! It really spoke light to childbirth and made me laugh at loud! A great read for first time moms - I wish I would have read this before my first birth because I could have been so much more educated in my options beyond what the doctor told me. I think it also helps make giving birth not seem so scary.
As a mother of two, it was also fun hearing other birth stories and being able to relate to some and gasp at others! We’re all in this together!

As a doula and childbirth educator for over a decade, I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted look at birth work. I laughed so hard at parts of this book, and felt so understood! I have also flooded a hospital L&D room by putting a mom on a birth ball in the shower and accidentally covering the drain. The last section of the book was full of great advice about the mental aspect of labor. First time moms might find this book helpful to normalize birth.

Must read for expectant mommas
Micah is an incredible doula, and now we know she's an incredible writer as well! Her book had me from hello to goodbye. It's heartwarming, hilarious, and totally her. It's for anyone who needs a pick me up, from a woman who has helped so many others stand up for themselves and become Superwomen through childbirth.
