Genetically enhanced animals struggle to survive on a post apocalyptic earth, abandoned by humanity for 4600 years. They are aided by their creator, an enigmatic, artificially intelligent ruler of The City. The nuclear winter and attacks by the mad beasts of the surrounding countryside are subsiding. They have almost gained a foothold on a bright future. But now the humans have returned.
Retired welder/metal fabricator, now a writer. I always said that I would be a writer in college, studying to be a biologist or an English professor. I chose a trade instead to stave off frostbite and starvation.
WC Quick has been one of my favorite authors for some time now. And this one is as wonderfully imaginative and beautifully written as the other six or so books, collections, and stories I've read by him. Half-a-Rat and the rest of the quirky cast of characters in this series are a blast to get to know. With each volume I continue to be surprised by the places this story is going. And every time I finish one, I'm more invested in the outcome. I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it; if you haven't dipped a toe into the waters of WC Quicks imagination, just do it already. Like me, you'll likely end up diving in headfirst.
As like the other Half a Rat series, I was highly entertained and enjoying the story and characters. I can't wait to read the next one in the series. Highly recommended.
