LAUGH-OUT-LOUD FUNNY, CRUDE, AND ALWAYS UNPREDICATABLE – MIKE BARON DELIVERS BOOK THREE IN THE FLORIDA MAN SERIES.
As Gary and Krystal drag Prince Larry and Princess Regan, through the mud, a snapping turtle latches on to the prince’s manhood and a debate breaks out on whether to release the video.
Will it help or hurt the Royal Ducats?
Gary brawls with a man in a bunny suit at Wacky World. Venezuelans use Gary’s property for drug deals. Legendary dadaist Claude Balls stuns the world with his creations. Leotis, a giant Mekong catfish, becomes Gary’s friend and advisor, but only Gary can see the painfully shy Leotis – perhaps it was that cane toad Gary licked. Krystal trains to fight Lucha Libre sensation Javelina.
The genius of Mike Baron’s Florida Man books can never be understated. Much like a Paul McCartney solo album from the 1980s there is an under appreciated deepness that deserves a bigger audience. The third book in the series was a little less raw than its predecessors. Mike Baron certainly not bowing to any woke mobs, so maybe a slight mellowing of author and his great creation; Gary Duba. I hope this is not the last outing for Florida Man and will be looking forward to more of his adventures.
Florida’s prodigal son is back with more wrestling, UFO’s, and get rich quick schemes, but less booze and drugs. I feel like Gary was halfway responsible in this chapter of his life, but luckily Krystal is still there to keep him from getting to far ahead in life. Hopefully there’ll be a next book and will have a special edition that includes a strand of Mr. Duba’s mullet.
The second funniest book I have read in 2023! The first being Hogzilla, also by the author!
This novel of Gary and Krystal begins with their return to the trailer park. Loyal readers know that their upscale home was destroyed by a giant hog, so they have come home. Fortunately their tenants, Harry and Megan, excuse me, Larry and Regan have just departed for Hollywood and the next round of self-promotion.
Gary starts out with a talk to Leotis, his animal spirit guide. This being Gary Duba, his spirit guide is a giant Mekong catfish that appears only to Gary. Within minutes, Gary discovers a parachutist with ties to Central American dictator and 5 kilos of cocaine.
It only gets wilder from there. Wrestling matches, rare comic books, and python hit and runs are just a few of the incidents the reader gets to enjoy as Gary and Krystal find a way through their troubles as only a Florida Man and his woman can. I believe every character from the last two books appears for a cameo at least (well, those who are still alive) and even the great cybernetic bull, Tallywhacker, shows up. Larry and Regan return from Hollywood and have a much larger role in this epic tome of redneckery (if that's not a word, it should be).
I won't say anymore, not because of spoilers, but because all of you need to read and laugh for yourself without any forewarning. It's that much fun!
Highly recommended for anyone who loves Mike Baron or satire that leaves good taste in a Florida sinkhole!
If you like books by Carl Hiassin or Dave Barry then you will like the Florida man series, its twisted and funny and has a little of everything a good book should.
A Florida Man story is an obvious thing, but nobody can do it like Mike Baron. Gary Duba's lack of common sense is only exceeded by his endearing decency, and the combination not only serves as a source of humor, but as a wickedly satirical take on modern culture. The result is much funnier and more entertaining than anything else in a genre that has become all too mean-spirited in recent years. By putting love and empathy back into satire, Baron not only makes it more readable, but that much more pointed. Don't miss this book, or any of the others in the series!
Baron delivers a third installment that understands Florida Man's true gift: not chaos, but the surreal logic that makes chaos inevitable. The snapping turtle incident proves inspired, physical comedy that doubles as commentary on dignity's fragility. What distinguishes this series is the hallucinatory coherence; Gary's cane toad induced friendship with Leotis the giant Mekong catfish advisor operates with dreamlike consistency, the painfully shy fish visible only to him becoming emotional anchor in a sea of absurdity. The dadaist Claude Balls and Lucha Libre training create cultural density rare in comic fiction, Venezuelan drug deals and bunny suit brawls accumulating rather than merely piling on. For readers weary of sanitized humor, this offers crude unpredictability with genuine craft. A raucous, strangely touching continuation.
Just like the other books, it made me laugh out loud several times. I've really enjoyed the series, and will read the next if written. Just a fun, enjoyable book. I would recommend reading them in order to get the context of a lot of the jokes.
Talk about funny! I mean laugh out loud funny! Third book in the series and somehow they keep getting better. Great characters, hilarious plots, just a great time! I mean Larry and Reagan, just read this book and laugh 😂 Please more Florida Man!
