It's back to business at Spirits & Such...but since it seems all the ghosts are resting in peace recently, business is dead, too! But if jobs won't come to them, they'll just have to go out and meet trouble halfway...which is why Reigen's taking Mob to a town filled with urban legends, and why Reigen and Mob make a clandestine trip to meet up with clients at an exclusive but haunted girls' school--in disguise, dressed in ponytails and sailor skirts!
Manga creator ONE first created One-Punch Man as a web comic, where it quickly went viral, garnering over 10,000,000 hits! Along with One-Punch Man, ONE also writes and draws another series called Mob Psycho 100.
The new normal is pretty nice and ordinary. Picking up odd jobs, defeating urban legends, conning people out of their well-earned money or ill-gotten gains... you know, the normal.
It was also pretty cool to see our Mob get a girlfriend, however briefly. :)
A bit less interesting than the previous one but it is still good because we learn more about Mob's character. We know he is shy, antisocial, and has problems with his emotions but this time he is suffering from existentialism as well. He tries to fit in this world but he doesn't feel like he belongs here. In this volume, there are a couple of jobs Reigen and Mob complete but it is more important to focus on Mob's feelings. In the end, he even thinks about what would happen if he were to turn evil. The last two chapters are also the start of a new arc which is one of my favorites.
after how previous volume had been my fave so far, this one come close to second and here’s why:
1. Inner turmoil of Mob — he started to see in broaden perspective as he’s growing up, he started to ponder upon a lot of things and him being a psychic (even acknowledge he’s capable of things with the immense power he yield) and this is where the fork begins. If Shigeo Kageyama doesn’t have anyone who’s ready to protect him, it will cost his humanity and inclined towards isolation. This kind of withdrawal where he thought no one will understand him and this is where he’s truly blessed with people who care and support him.
2. Mob’s relationship with people — he is someone valued as one who needs to be protected at all cost (dimple, reigen, ritsu & friends from running club) and I found how lovely each one of them ready to be with him. It shows how your environment played important role towards what kind of path your life currently paving. And especially, with Reigen, he might showed his concern a little but different than others.
3. Reigen-Mob’s dynamic — as someone who already watched anime, I know how it will be brilliantly portrayed from here and I can’t wait to read it in original form of manga. Look, Reigen might seems like someone’s who taking advantage of Mob’s power (I even believed at first he actually do) but you can see throughout, how Reigen isn’t just a mentor that milked money out of Mob but ones who ready to show up whenever Mob needs him. I also believe Mob already realized the true nature of his mentor but all Mob wanted from Reigen is probably a decent confession/apology because the way he acted seems like making a fool out Mob.
I might be overanalyzed things but yeah, my brain love to read between lines.
I shall keep more of my insight on next volumes then 🤭
I don't know. The Manga is getting kind of dark and gloomy - even Dimple. Things start off fine with missions. But then a client demands a curse and turns out Master is hexed or something. The fight with the land "spirit" was interesting. My only hope is this exorcism gone wrong while all these other people with powers is more than just a cliffhanger.
This volume of Mob Psycho 100 is interesting in particular because it raises questions about how Mob treats spirits and humans. For Mob, spirits are as much a part of his everyday life as humanity. However, he's treated them distinctly differently. As we edge toward a new kind of awareness for Mob, he must decide what the value of a spirit is and what kind of punishment the cruelest of humanity deserve.
It’s back to business at Spirits & Such, but since it seems all the ghosts are resting in peace recently, business is dead, too. But if jobs won’t come to them, they’ll just have to go out and meet trouble halfway, which is why Reigen’s taking Mob to a town filled with urban legends.
This volume kicks off the Reigen and Mob trying to track down and eliminate some urban legends, that may, or may not, have a supernatural component to them. Regien explains their mission to Mob:
We are going to follow up on these reports that were sealed away as top secret by the government (found in 15 seconds on Goggle)...
Mob comments on Reigen's plan by saying:
You seem very energized about trawling for unhappiness.
This sets things up form some marvelous comedic sequences as the duo try to uncover the truth about a number of urban legends.
Later in the volume, Reigen and Mob, and a number of other spiritualists, are hired to exorcise a spirit from a teenage girl. In order to see who will have first crack at the case they try to sort it our by playing Rock-Paper-Scissors. However, Reigen is an idiot, which causes one of the spiritualists to comment:
Are you dumb, or is this some kind of psych out? It could be both, you know an attempt at a psych out by a dumb person.
It turns out to be the latter.
It turns out the girl is possessed by a powerful spirit, and the book ends with the spirit announcing itself, leaving the reader on a cliff hanger as a grand conflict is hinted at for the next volume.
Overall, this was a pretty funny instalment of Mob Psycho 100.
The formula of this volume is what is best suited for ONE's storylines.
Socially awkward, down to earth, overpowered MC faces villain of the week in a fight that contrasts MC's wallflower appearance with his amazing personality/powers. The anguish of choices and the pain of surviving in a world that doesn't quite get the MC. Chapters following this structure are tightly structured, smart, and occasionally funny.
It is when ONE tries for something more "grand" that the whole thing falls apart. The narrative then degenerates into "global crisis where all the awesome heroes fail but the MC has to be elsewhere for a contrived reason". The allure of the overpowered protagonist comes not from the phony game of "if only the hero was here", but from the grey moral choices such a character has to make when he is here but cannot act without deliberation.
I wish this story gives me nothing epic, just more mob.
I’m currently sick and have lots of free time and that means I have time to read. However, I don’t really feel like reading any novels, so I chose to read something that’s mostly pictures. I first read Mob Psycho 100 in 2019. I remember finishing the anime right around the start of the summer and starting the manga. I don’t remember how much it took me to finish the whole series but I remember it wasn’t a long time. This is the only volume of the manga that I actually own. I bought it this year and I don’t really know why I picked this one, it might be just because I liked the cover. Mob Psycho 100 surely is my favorite manga I’ve ever read, maybe because I haven’t read that many, but it’s just so special. The characters are incredibly interesting and they feel so real. I like how it’s not just a typical action story with lots of fights. I love the art, the art style feels so real. I seriously cannot wait for season 3 of the anime.
3.5/5 After the events of the last story arc Mob is back to work with Reigen. Most of the volume comprises different odd jobs that Spirits & Such take on. Firstly they face off against apparent urban legends with a rather creepy rendition of the cut mouth woman. After that they visit a haunted house with some teenagers and a farm with possessed crops. All interesting but not as good as the last volume.
However the last couple chapters it really ramps up with when Reigen and Mob are invited to exorcise a teenage girl. When they arrive they discover a ton of other mediums have been brought in as well. It was a good build up even though it ends on a cliffhanger like usual. I'm looking forward to seeing where this part of the story goes as it's genuinely pretty creepy and I dig that.
Mob harvesting an evil tomato on the cover of volume 7.

This was more of a cool down volume after Mob has taken down the Claw originations. It was about him and Reigen ghost hunting, it kind of dragged. I like the initial hunts as it was about urban legends, loved the inclusion of the slit mouthed woman. After that though they seemed to go from pillar to post meeting various people and dealing with their problems.
It's not like the cool down stories you get in One-Punch Man, Vol. 1, where you had Saitama and King gaming, whilst having some humorous situations, this just felt dragged out and boring.
We get a cliffhanger ending, which could lead to a big battle but I'm honestly not looking forward to it.
We get a more 'monster of the week' formula with this volume, a cool down from the previous arc while hinting at Mob psyche in a way that may pay off in future arcs. Mob struggles with knowing the difference between evil spirits and good spirits, evil spirits and evil people, and feeling so alone and disconnected from the world that he can't really trust himself. Enjoyable, I'd like to see where it goes, but no moments that really stood out to me.
This volume wasn’t my favorite but it wasn’t the worst either. I feel like it did a good job of developing Mob and by the end of the volume the stakes felt a bit higher.
I’m intrigued to see where Mob’s internal conflict goes on whether it’s right for him to use his powers to hurt people. I’m also curious to see what this spirit is that’s been possessing this guys daughter.
Will we finally see a spirit that Mob really struggles against?

Even though this volume felt very X-Files-Monster-of-the-Week-ish and was sort of a low point for me, Mob’s character development was excellent. It feels like little by little that Mob is becoming aware of his peculiarities while honing his powers. Additionally, I don’t know how it took me seven volumes to realize Reigen is the best character in this series. The humor is always on point, and the Reigen character is a big part of it.
I'm giving this a lower rating than the other volumes, because plot-wise, not much happened. Most of the volum was just Mob and Reigen running around fighting spirits. And you know what? That was fun. Plus, the artwork was actually pretty good when it came to the monsters. They were really creepy.
It took a break from the action so to speak, but we have a good bit of character development taking place and it seems it’s ramping up for more action in volume 8.
