Lowcountry On My Mind
By: Ashley Farley
REVIEW ☆☆☆☆
To date, I have yet to read an Ashley Farley book and not love it. Lowcountry On My Mind is no exception.
In this story, Amelia returns to Palmetto Island for a couple of reasons. First, her mother has suddenly died, and second, she is fleeing an abusive and controlling husband. Amelia is not, however, naive enough to think her husband will never find her. It's just a matter of time before Amelia will be forced to contend with the situation. Beyond this, Amelia has misgivings about some things, and her apprehension only deepens with time. There is an excellent atmospheric vibe of mystery and intrigue throughout this book, and it works well.
Another resident of Palmetto Island, Amelia's old friend, Max, has troubles, too. An impulsive romantic relationship has led Max into a frustrating situation. The question now is how to remedy it. Max is an entertaining and sympathetic character who maneuvers through uncharted waters as best she can.
Amelia and Max are strong women, and reliance on this strength, as well as courage, conviction and intellect, is vital to achieving their goals. Lowcountry On My Mind is endings, beginnings, starting over, saying goodbye, embracing the now and the power of coming home. Through her insightful and engrossing tale, Ashley Farley touches the heart and feeds the soul of every reader.
