There are moments in our lives that can change the course we’re on. I believe when faced with those moments, we should take the unknown path. The risk. The excitement, the opportunity, the love . . .
The night I stumbled into a burlesque club in downtown Los Angeles, I took one of those paths and changed my life. I found a home I’d never had with my own parents. I found a confidence I’d never known as a prima ballerina. I found my passion.
And it inadvertently led me back to the one moment I’d let slip away—to him. To a love so pure and whole and carnal, I thought it could withstand anything.
But I’m not the only one with secrets. And now, all those chosen paths are crumbling around me.
Molly grew up in California but now lives with her husband and daughter in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas. When she's not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach . . . which roughly translates to being a homebody and dishing out movie quotes with her hubby. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and loves curling up in a fluffy blanket during a thunderstorm . . . or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.
I have waited to write this simply because I'm just not sure what to say.
I didn't love it but I liked it but I thought is was slow but I wanted to keep reading it.
Yup, a hot mess of a review this is gonna be.
Adam being unable to speak was very intriguing and kept the story so interesting. For me, I think this was the best part. I wanted to know the why and if he would end up speaking any words for Hollis.
Then there was this suspense/mystery element that I thought was going to climax into some huge secret or drama but it just kind of unfolded throughout the end of the story. It didn't get exiting and page turning for me.
Ugh, I know this isn't making any sense. It probably won't make anyone want to read it or make them sure they don't want to read it. Sometimes, I just have those books that I can't put into words. This obviously, is one of those.
Very enjoyable! I really liked Hollis and Adam's relationship and the crazy shenanigans surrounding them kept the plot moving along at a fast pace. (WOW and WTF @ her family.) Hollis and Adam's chemistry was great and while I was really unsure about the 'secret' Adam was keeping from her, I'm glad I stuck with it because the twist did really set me at ease and made me like them far more than I initially did (I mean, I liked their chemistry and connection, but I wasn't totally sure about Adam's intentions until the twist and was a bit like >.> about some of the things he and Leo were up to). The friends and housemates were all great, especially Stevie. She was absolutely hilarious! I hope she and Russell get their own book, although I think the series is finished and they don't, so booooo.
Overall this was a truly enjoyable start to the series and another great Molly McAdams read. After this one and Lie to Me, I can definitely say that I'm a fan of her books!
Wow, wow, wow!!! This was an epic start to what is going to be an epic series!!! Hollis and Adam….. I’m not sure what to say about them. Pretty sure Adam is one of my new book boyfriends. And Hollis, a book best friend. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t say much but wow! Pick this book up and devour it!! It’ll make you want to devour it!! I love all of Ms. McAdams books that I’ve read. But Taking Chances has always been “that book”. I don’t know if I can say that anymore. Passion is right up there with Taking Chances and maybe a little bit past it!!! Read it ASAP! You want to! Trust me!
PASSION, that word alone describes this book to a T!!! Hollis Donahue is trying to escape her past…not the past you are thinking of…she’s the daughter of a politician and the exact description of a “Mommy Dearest”!!! She is not what her parents want her to be…she’s sooo much more. She’s trying to live the life SHE wants to live, not her parent's idea of who she should be. She doesn’t want the politicians daughter spotlight, but a different kind…dancing! A one night fling from her past finds his way back into her life across the country. Adam is brooding, quiet and completely scary to most people. But to Hollis, he’s different. Can they rekindle what they found so many years ago? Or will the Secrets In La ruin them forever? Can she trust Adam, is he who she thinks he is? You’ll definitely want to find out in this “edge of your seat” romance! Molly McAdams always brings it in her books! Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, she turns things on you and takes you by surprise!! You do not want to miss out on Passion…or Hollis and Adam’s story! It’s one of a kind and I could NOT put it down! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Once a prima ballerina; now a burlesque dancer. Hollis has lived her entire life as a puppet of her parents. But now, living a "secret" life across the country from them, she's enjoying her life like never before. She has her freedom. And when she stumbles across her one-night-stand from years ago, the man she has never been able to forget, she has a chance at love. But Adam has secrets of his own. Secrets that all lead back to Hollis.
Working with BH, I have met people with selective mutism. It's a complex condition driven by intense fear as the result of torture or severe trauma. I connected with Adam and felt the realness of his character. However, I was hoping for a little more character growth along the way since this is fiction. Hollis was a little more difficult to connect with. It was hard to understand why she allowed herself to be controlled and bulldozed by her parents (mother) since she wasn't dependent on them. Parental approval seemed too weak. The suspense was lukewarm since the outcome was never in doubt. The true star of the book was Stevie. The audio portrayal was perfection. Kudos Savannah Peachwood!
I have read a few of Molly McAdams books and she seems to create worlds that you can get lost in. This book built up slowly, as I got to know both Hollis and Adam. They had crossed paths a couple of times in the past, one of which was quite intimate. They had a connection, but I felt Hollis was quite blasé when it came to remembering those times.
I loved Adam! He was a character I enjoyed reading about. I thought he was holding back at times, but I could see he had genuine feelings for Hollis. I liked that he had a strong friendship with Leo, and together those two seemed to be up to something.
Hollis was trying to step out from her family’s shadow and trying to carve her own path in life. I would’ve liked to see her stand up to her parents early on instead of cowering. It was good to finally see her grow with the support of Adam.
Overall, it was a nice read, but probably a bit slow for my liking. The secondary characters helped flesh out the story and kept it interesting. I hope to return to this world one day!
’all. I don’t know why I even pretend to be shocked with every new Molly book, but this one got me too, like they all do. I’m not as broken as I was when I finished Nightshade or Fire, but still broken to an extent.
I’m 100% sure that if Kieran and Beau had a secret love child, it would be Adam. He’s broody and silent, terrifying and protective as ever. Where does that leave Hollis? I’d say she’s an entirely different soul than Molly’s other heroines, but at the same time she’s so similar. It’s definitely hard to describe how I feel about Hollis, when I can so easily explain Adam and I think that’s possibly because I made the connection to Kieran, Beau and Adam so quickly.
Hollis and Adam, the love they have for one another? It’s definitely a one of a kind, instant love and I love them together. This whole book had me swooning, followed by laughing, followed by anger and back to swooning. I was so consumed by the first page that I knew I would be in trouble the more I got sucked into it and I was.. I started Passion around midnight on September 1st and finished around 3am on the 5th, if I weren’t working two jobs I likely would have finished on the 3rd and that’s stretching it.
Though I loved reading everything to do with Adam and Hollis, it was Stevie, Mia and Ariana that truly made the story one to be sucked into. Stevie especially, she’s so funny that I couldn’t help but bust out laughing every time she said something about protecting her friends, due to the way she would aggressively fight for them, it makes me sad that Stevie wont have her own book, but at least we’ll see her in Love and Fame.
If y’all haven’t purchased Passion yet, grab your copy today, then tell me what your favorite part was!
Passion is the first book in a brand new series by Molly McAdams, Secrets in L.A. This series is about a group of girls sharing a house in n LA. Each is a Stand alone. In Passion, we meet Hollis , a burlesque dancer with a past very few know about. She doesn't want to be known for who her family is. She met a guy in new York years ago, and had a night with him that was "nothing should feel like this " that she still thinks about. Adam still remembers and thinks about the night in new York with an unforgettable girl. He didn't come from her world. He runs into her again and vows to talk to her . The only thing is, he has secrets that will hurt her. He can't deny the undeniable electricity between them. Even her friends notice.
What happens when one night becomes unforgettable, and secrets can stop what is definitely inevitable to happen. Can Hollis and Adam make it work?? I couldn't put this down, from the start it grabbed me. I have to say,I'm thrilled for a series that shows women supporting women. Standing by them first before everything else. I love how intriguing Adam is. I was curious and needed more. Hollis shined right away. I could picture her dancing talent. The way these 2 characters spoke without any words to each other, it was like I was them. The secrets are heartbreaking, horrifying that people are like that but molly McAdams writes an amazing story. I can't wait for more of these ladies. You will not be disappointed with this book.
This book is unlike anything else Molly has written. I promise when I tell you that you will be swept into this story and made to keep steadily reading until you are done, that I really truly mean it. My goodness. I was blown away.
From the very start, I was pulled into this incredible story. There were twists & turns, hilarious antics from all the characters, and steamy steamy steamy parts..all of which felt so real that I honestly thought I knew these people in real life.
I fell completely in love with Hollis, and my heart went out to her more than once. She is such a sincere and wholesome character, you can't help but automatically love her and want to be her entire best friend. Of course, we can't forget about Adam...Ohhhh Adam. Swoon. All the swoons.
This story was nothing I expected, it's different than anything I've ever read, and that's 100% a good thing! Don't hesitate, grab this book and enjoy every single second of it.
💕 About: Hollis is a burlesque dancer with a past she doesn’t share with many, she wants to make a name for herself not who her family name is. She met a guy years ago in New York that she still thinks about. Adam still remembers the night in New York with an unforgettable girl he see’s her again years later. Could this be their second chance? The only thing is he has secrets that could hurt Hollis.
💕What I liked: I loved the women supporting women. They have each other’s back no questions asked. Women lifting one another up and being there. It’s something we need to see more of. I love the mystery of it all. This book definitely gave me some Forgiving Lies vibes (also a Molly McAdams book)
💕What I disliked: honestly I don’t think there is much i ever dislike in Molly McAdams books
Wow just wow!! I don't even know where to start with this one other then to say this book is so darn good! Molly has done it again, she's managed to completely hook me in right from the start, connecting with the characters on such a deep level and truly falling in love with the very swoon worthy Adam.
Molly's writing is what started my addiction to reading and with each new release I become more in awe of her writing. Just like every book before this one I ended up reading it in one sitting as I couldn't bring myself to stop. I was so invested in Hollis and Adam and I just had to find out how everything was going to play out, and I was not disappointed!!
If you are looking for an absolutely amazing read look no further this is the book for you! I will never not recommend Molly McAdams, you won't be disappointed!
A completely new and fresh series idea! I've read the secret past before and don't get me wrong I've loved them but they aren't new. This book however is a totally different take on that. Hollis is a girl with a past, living to make someone else's dreams happen, Adam is a guy with secrets and he doesn't let anyone in, but when they fall into each other's path not once but twice they know they can't fight the pull to each other's secrets. Only problem is no one knows the truth not even them. Adam is just easy to love and Hollis is the kind of girl we all wish we had as friends. The roommates are so filled with girl power and love for each other that I could read a book just about that! Can't wait to read more of this series!
I have been a fan of McAdams' books/writing for years. This book was just as good as the others but different too. The characters were all likable. Even though the story revolves around Hollis, I don't feel like I really know her that well. Despite this, I love her interactions with Adam. Their story is a good one and I love the way everything works out in the end. It looks like the next book will be about the new girl that shows up in the last few pages of this story. While it will likely be a good book, I am so bummed it isn't Stevie's. That girl is something else and I cannot wait to read her story. Hoping we get more of Hollis and Adam in the upcoming books of the series.
I’m all for stories that are out there and a little unbelievable, but there were parts of this one that actually made me laugh out loud a bit at how far fetched the scenarios were. With that said, there were some very sweet moments between the two main characters and I definitely didn’t hate it. The banter was good. It was easy to follow and passed the time just fine for an included title.
One of the best pieces was the narrators. These two seem to read most of this authors works and they are solid. A narrator can be a deal breaker for me, but I enjoy these two.
At first I was frustrated because the suspense of knowing if Adam is a good guy or bad almost had me not wanting to finish the book! But as always Miss Molly would drop another clue to who he was when I was ready to quit reading BUT I promise you it is definitely worth pushing through! I can't wait for the rest of the series. As always Molly leaves us wanting more!!!!!!
Just finished Lie to Me and thought I'd give this author another shot at wowing me. Not feeling this one. Super slow start. No real hook. Molly seems to write characters who suffer traumas that shape their struggles with finding love. Throw in some criminal intrigue and it becomes a mishmash of angst with a rushed ending.
Started reading the reviews before finally deciding to DNF this one. More 2 and 3.5 stars tell me I'm not alone in my critique. Next.
I'm only giving this three stars because I enjoyed Adam and didn't hate Hollis. I hated how she couldn't stand up to her parents till the end. Like it is so annoying when characters let their parents walk all over them. Such an annoying plot of a story.
However, I enjoyed that Hollis did decide to do her own thing and I liked Adam.
Tropes – insta love – strangers to lovers – non-verbal MMC – burlesque dancer – secrets
I do like the idea of this book more than how the story is executed. Hollis has all the tools to be a very interesting character - she is a burlesque dancer, after being controlled by them her whole life, she has escaped her parents, so it has to be said there is a lot of potential in her character. However, I think she comes across to naive in some moments throughout the book, and the way she brushes off Adams lies, I don't know, I feel like whenever he does something wrong (and he does more than once), she just shruggs it off despite having every right to be mad. I think Adam is a good rep for a non-verbal character. Though I wished the last chapter wouldn't exsist (you know when you know, and yes it has something to do with him being non-verbal) He is a male character I like, but I feel like some of his actions are rather questionable - regarding keeping secrets about things he should have told Hollis. I am still surprised how much plot there is. Like I said in the above, I am not complete happy how this whole story unfolds, it’s predictable in some ways, but I do appreciate what this book tries to do, and therefore I would recommend it - because I know there are people out there who would like how this turns out (and this book is rather underrated, so if you like the synopsis, you should give it a try!)
This thrilling romance had me under its spell right from the very beginning. A love story that was powerfully raw, suspenseful, emotional, romantic and beautifully inspiring. Adam and Hollis are two broken souls. One fateful encounter sends their lives careening down a path they never even imagined possible. I was not prepared for how deeply moving and emotional this story would be. The twists and turns along the way were an intense rollercoaster ride of emotions. Those emotions bled from the pages; some scenes literally stole my breath leaving me in tears and others had me on the edge of my seat. I loved watching Adam and Hollis fall in love. Their attraction was magnetic, chemistry undeniable and passion explosive. They share a soul-deep connection that is unbreakable no matter what life throws their way. Witnessing what they endure to be together and how they fight for one another was breathtaking. The characters were well-developed and relatable and storyline was very well-written. This story left a mark on my heart and soul and stayed with me long after “the end”. I highly recommend reading this book!
Good plot, nice pacing, some intrigue and an amazing bunch of women friends who have each others back in all situations.
I loved the FMC and her besties. Their friendship was stuff of legends. The way they crowded around one of their own if they were hurting was beautiful. It was refreshing to see camaraderie instead of competition among them.
The MMC was charming and adorable in his own way. I was so glad when he made the important choices that he did (that I can’t say more about without worrying about spoilers).
I’ve been reading so much heavy and dark stuff that this was a breath of fresh air — overall sweet and fluffy-ish. Restoring to return to a lighter plot. Now back to diving into the deep dark abyss.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really liked this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I liked this book ⭐️⭐️ Meh… bored or annoyed ⭐️ Seriously? Not worth it
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ INFERNO. P@nty melting 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Blazing hot 🌶️🌶️🌶 Now we’re talking 🌶️🌶️ Meh… uninspired missionary 🌶️ Does weak foreplay count?
I’m not generally one to write reviews because I enjoy reading far more than writing. But occasionally, something triggers the review bug while I’m reading and ta-da!!
So, I’m really not a fan of that insta-love. That “soulmate kind of love” after 1 night of bumping uglies where you don’t even exchange names. Comparing other people to this mystery-man for YEARS because he was just soooooo special that you ran out the next morning. Yeah, sorry, but I just can’t wrap my head around that.
And then there was the plot…
Think super cheesy Disney movie. Made for kids so the villain is made the be some evil mastermind - so over the top and exaggerated it’s comical. It was eye-roll after eye-roll for me.
That being said I didn’t actually hate the book. I really enjoyed Stevie’s character. I’m a sucker for a witty bitch who uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism.
I wouldn’t read this one again, but I’ll read the next book in the series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
i tried but i think Molly McAdams and I don't mix. Molly doesn't reveal any important clues until the very last minute of the scene playing out. I think it's supposed to want you to listen to get answers but for me, nothing seemed to connect or set itself up in the plot, this only frustrated me. I just think it's her style of writing. there is a lot of detail toward feelings and emotions but the simple things don't seem to have a description. for example the heroine is a burlesque dancer yet there is hardly any detail of her features, her dancing or what her friends are like, so I'm left imagining.....and if there is detail then I missed it.... I really wanted to like this as Molly has a lot of books and series books as well, but sadly not my style. I know the narrators and I enjoy their work.
Well written romance with as much intrigue as angst... or are they the same?
Adam is dark and dangerous... even when he's happy. Great character, but in the beginning its hard to tell how Hollis finds this attractive when she seems the exact opposite.
Hollis is living the life she wants not the life her parents orchestrated... or is she? Because she keeps having dreams about a one night stand or a guy she meets at a dinner.
They both have secrets they won't share, which is fine for a while, but after a while it gets redundant and I started to loose interest, until one throwaway line is said and you instantly know his big secret before Hollis starts to learn it... it just came off as poor writting.
After the secrets are out, then it becomes quite suspenseful and full of action.
Dang, Molly did it again. 3.5 star on this one, though.
All the feels for Adam. I couldn’t possibly imagine how much of a struggle being mute could be but Molly certainly wrote it in a way that made you frustrated alongside him.
Just like most of Molly’s writing this book deals in past trauma that caused extreme behavioral issues. This book however was not mainly in dealing with personal development like the rest however you still felt for the character.
While it was an interesting read, it was pretty predictable. I could see the missing puzzle piece a mile away with how certain characters acted. There wasn’t much mystery to it, if that’s what she was going for. The storyline kept me interested but didn’t keep me guessing.
For me, this book started really slow, which is shocking because I am usually hooked by the first couple of pages when it comes to McAdam's books. About halfway through is when things started to pick up and get a little more interesting. Then at 70%, I couldn't put it down all h*ll broke loose.
This book will have you second-guessing everything, except for the love between Adam and Hollis. It was a powerful thing throughout the entire book. I also loved the other characters in the book, especially Stevie. Everyone needs a Stevie in their life. LMAO!
Grab a copy! Get ready for all the angst and chaos.
