This one picks up right where Lord's first book, "Childsplay," ended. We now find that novel's protagonist in Southern California with her grandmother. She soon grows up and heads to college. She drinks and smokes and spends time on a boat. There is a car crash and an expulsion from a sorority because of too much of the above. Later there is Hollywood. The bohemian life of the protagonist brings to mind some of the works of Lord's partner Sybille Bedford.
