Serviceable biography of the former Patriot's quarterback. Nice emphasis on how he wasn't always the best (199th draft pick!) and how he worked harder because of that. There is no mention of his political beliefs. For grades 2 & up.

Anyone who followed Deflategate to the end, beyond the initial headlines, knows how much of a sham the scandal was. It's embarrassing that something so ridiculous has to be part of Tom Brady's legacy, but it is, so I don't fault the author of this book for at least mentioning it. I would expect him however, to include accurate information.

On page 35, the author details New England's Super Bowl 49 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, arguably one of the most thrilling Super Bowl victories ever. After his description of Super Bowl 49 he writes this: "Not long after that game, Tom and the Patriots were accused of taking some air out of the footballs in the win over the Colts." The timeline of events implied by the author here is inaccurate and while it might not seem like that big of an error, it is. It suggests to the reader that the Patriots could have been cheating in that Super Bowl win against the Seahawks when the accusation came immediately following their game against the Colts (two weeks prior to the Super Bowl, not after the Super Bowl like this authors states.) The scandal actually dominated headlines heading into that Super Bowl against the Seahawks. A league investigation began prior to that Super Bowl. Changes in protocol were even implemented before the Super Bowl to ensure footballs weren't tampered with during that game.

Two pages later, the author includes a full page insert about "NFL Footballs" and goes into detail regarding league rules for footballs. He ends this section by writing, "At halftime in random games, some of the footballs are measured again to make sure they are still inflated correctly. This rule was added after the Patriots were found to have taken some air out of the game balls in the 2014 Super Bowl." It's amazing to me how many errors can be packed into such a simple sentence! Let's break them down:

1) The "rule" the author is referencing isn't actually a rule. It's something the league started doing in an attempt to collect data on footballs after this scandal was brought up. There's a phenomena called the Ideal Gas Law that would suggest all footballs lose a little bit of air in inclement weather so the league wanted to collect data on that before they made any decision on whether or not to punish New England. To my knowledge, they don't check this anymore. No one ever talks about it and the league never published any of the information they learned by doing this. So there was no rule implemented because of the Patriots. There were things the league should have been checking all along and then things they checked randomly for a short time after to collect data. But no new official rule.

2) The Patriots were never found to have taken some air out of game balls. This isn't an opinion coming from me, as a fan, it's a statement of fact. It was never proven that the Patriots or Tom Brady deflated any footballs. The commissioner of the league issued a punishment at the behest of other owners in the league but the very lengthy investigation led by the league never produced a shred of credible evidence proving guilt. So this statement is false.

3) And lastly, even if it was true, the game in question was the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts, two weeks before the Super Bowl. There were strict protocols in place during the 2014 Super Bowl. And the Patriots still won. So the Patriots were never even accused of taking air out of the footballs during the 2014 Super Bowl, let alone found guilty of tampering with footballs during that game.

These errors imply that the author may be operating more from his own memory than any careful research. Again, I don't fault the author for mentioning the scandal because sadly, whether I like it or not, it's part of Brady's story. But there had to be a way to mention it truthfully, accurately, and non biased.

Tom Brady definitely deserves to have a WHO IS book written about him. He's undeniably the greatest team sport champion of all time. The books in this series are popular and should contain accurate information. I would encourage the publisher to revisit this and correct these errors.

I enjoyed how the book explained Brady’s work ethic and how he never gave up, even when others doubted him. His story shows that success isn’t only about natural talent, it’s also about hard work and believing in yourself. After reading it, I felt more motivated, because it proves that determination can change your whole life.

Well, here's another Who Is/Was book that I read with my son. I don't know much about football or Tom Brady. After reading this book, though, I can at least say that he seems to be a bit of an ass.

This book is about the goat Tom Brady who was one of the greatest Quarterback in history winning 7 super bowls and many other nominations. The first time that Tom Brady held the Vince Lombardi Trophy and little did he know that he would hold this trophy many more times. March 20, 2020 he got drafted to the New England Patriots from the Michigan Wolverines as the last draft pick in the draft. ( The last person who is picked is called Mr. Irrelevant.) When Tom Brady was a young child he loved football and he had two sisters named Nancy and Julie Brady. When he was younger he grew up playing football throwing the ball with his dad. He went to school in San Diego California.
His parents are Tom Brady sr, and Galynn Patricia Brady. His wife is Gisele Bündchen and has
one child named John Edward Thomas Moynahan. When he got older he got accepted to the college University of Michigan. He played football there and then he went to the New England Patriots in 2020. He won 7 super bowl 6 at the Patriots and 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady was in 10, and 7 he won and the super bowl that he lost against the New York Giants in 2008, 2012 and then lost in 2018 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
I liked this book because it is about my favorite player that retiered in from the NFL.
