Interesting and well written Regency Romance💕. The circumstances are probably a fantasy because of societal restrictions between the classes at The time, but it's still sweet to think about it happening. The were also parts of the plot that seemed illogical.
Penny Fairbanks brings readers back into the world of the Harcourt family to share with them Patrick’s story of finding love and a better understanding of his worth to the world.
I have really loved getting to know the Harcourt family in the past three books and was very excited to read Patrick’s story. He has provided some good insight and humor in the midst of his sibling’s dilemmas on the road to love so it’s no surprise that he will do the same in his own. Patrick has found a goal for his life that will allow him to read and study to his heart’s content……if only he could become his own boss with the proper reputation to recommend him. As the assistant editor of plays to Mr. Lloydwell, the primary examiner of plays under the Lord Chamberlain, Patrick spends his days reading the numerous plays and scripts that must be examined and cleared before performance. While he enjoys the work he does, he is worried that the constantly overwhelming daily readings will taint his love for the performed drama. In the midst of his work is also the growing expectation that he will soon pay court to the daughter of his employer. Knowing he is not likely to be wealthy enough to support a family in style, Patrick is quickly coming to the conclusion that he should not marry and foist his poorer living on others. But everything is about to be turned on it’s head when he meets the intriguing Eloise Beaufort. Eloise is a seamstress who is working to keep food on the table and provide for her mother’s medical care. Her current income will soon not be enough if her mother continues to decline in health. Thus she is considering accepting the proposal of an odious but fairly wealthy man to ensure her mother’s comfort. Losing her job after he demeans her in the shop, Eloise is certain she no longer has a choice and must suffer whatever plans he has for her. When Patrick Harcourt offers her help, she grabs desperately at it despite not really knowing him at all. The plan he comes up with is a bit unorthodox but will solve both of their marriage dilemmas. A fake engagement is not what she expects but he has promised to help her find another man who will provide the marriage she needs. They agree not to tell others the true reasons for their arrangement however, that plan doesn’t last long given the close nature of their families. But as they go about convincing others of their engagement, they will both find that what they thought was only make-believe is actually a real possibility for the future. Too bad Patrick is so determined to save Eloise from himself and marry her to a wealthy man. Can she convince him to listen to his heart and give her a chance to love him no matter what his income? She’ll have to pull out all the stops if she’s going to win him over. I loved the quietness of this story. It was not bold, brash or over the top in any way and the flow of the story was slower than the pace of other books. Often this can lead to a bored reader but I read this one with no feeling of being bored. This story had much of Patrick’s nature to it and that led to a slower story than the previous ones. Eloise is the perfect match for him with her sweet nature and way of showing love through actions. She loves Patrick but is willing to give him up if that means he’s happy. I loved that she found more confidence in herself and her right to have Patrick’s love as she spent more time with the Harcourts. It made for some fun conversations and swoony moments between her and Patrick. I also liked seeing how his family’s prediction that Patrick’s insistence on love being for others rather than himself would back to haunt him in the face of losing Eloise to his friend come true in the very best way. What a fun passage that was! I will certainly be recommending this this story to others as a sweet read that they will enjoy getting lost in. I’m very much looking forward to Harriet’s story which will be coming soon and for the promised spin-off series that will feature the children of the current love story people.
I received this temporary complimentary E-book from the author in order to provide a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
What has happened to Patrick’s extraordinary perceptions?
In the family saga of the Harcourts- a rather idyllic family who appear to be virtually without flaws. Patrick had yearned all his life to become an Examiner of plays. Unfortunately it’s comparatively poorly paid, so he had planned to remain unmarried. These plans are disrupted when he encounters Eloise Beaufort, a French emigre working as a seamstress. The narrative turns on the trope of a faux betrothal between a member of the minor aristocracy and a seamstress. A true Cinderella story, where the Prince is handsome and charming, but poor. The Harcourts take Eloise and her frail mother to their collective bosoms, without any quibbles about her poverty stricken situation. The book is a gentle read, full of familial warmth, but when I’m reading an ARC copy, I find myself more critical. The elephant in the room for me is the huge difference between their social status and experience, yet Eloise and her mother slot almost seamlessly into their aristocratic context. True much is made of Eloise’s awe at the Harcourt’s family home, and the theatre, and she has to learn to dance, she is aware that grinning or laughing in public is a social solecisms in her new milieu, but she never has trouble with language, or etiquette. Which could be formidable in the Regency era with the plethora of wine glasses and cutlery, and the mores of polite behaviours. As a French peasant Eloise would probably have spoken patois, and she learned her English amongst the very poverty stricken. This version of My Fair Lady ignores the problems of dialect that are the raison d’etre of the former.it is well written and edited, with no typos that I remember.I must admit, the Harcourts are a lovely idyllic family and it’s is lovely to bask in its warmth. So the series is very appealing

Miss Eloise Beaufort has worked hard all her life to provide for her family and pay for her mother’s medical requirements. England didn’t provide the better opportunities she had hoped for. So every day she must work harder as a seamstress, never able to get ahead.
A wealthy man offers to marry Eloise which might solve her financial problems. That outcome tempts her, but being married to a cruel man may be more than she can tolerate. Before she makes a move to accept, Fate may offer her another alternative. Mr. Patrick Harcourt has been successful in reaching his dream job. The only problem is that his superior's arrogant daughter has grown fond of him, but he has no interest in her. It does give him an incentive, however, to help the young seamstress he meets who is contemplating acceptance of a disastrous marriage proposal.
So Patrick offers himself instead as her groom. Their arrangement will decisively rid them both of their unwanted pursuers. Can Eloise find the real love she deserves despite all of her previous hardships? Will Patrick accept the possibility of love and happiness with the right woman? Or is there something out there that just might break them apart before they can find out? Grab your copy and see if their marriage can last and thrive despite the stumbling blocks.
I have read, and loved, every other book in this series. Patrick has always stood out as being mature beyond his years and willing to listen to, support, and assist others. I could not wait to see his HEA, and I was not disappointed. It would take a special woman to convince me she was worthy of this special man and Eloise was just that woman. She deeply loved and cared for her mom, one big positive in her favor, but her tender heart is what drew and held my attention. Together, they provided a sweet and lovely romance. I love the fake engagement that leads to more because I feel like I am in on a secret and looking in. It was fun watching them truly fall in love despite all the barriers and roadblocks, namely themselves, that kept getting in the way. A wonderful sweet, clean, regency romance that I highly recommend. I received a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
Are loss and heartbreak what fate has planned? Patrick first saw Eloise when he, his employer, and the employer’s daughter went to the modiste that Eloise worked for. When he came to Eloise rescue you just knew that they were a good match. Yet that is not what happens they instead agree to an arrangement that is a benefit to both. Then things changed for Eloise and Patrick will need to make a decision. It is a good thing he has a sister or two who can help him. I loved the characters in the book and it a very interesting story with a bit different take on the theme I enjoyed the piece and I am happy to recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I wondered what lady Patrick Harcourt, who would rather spend all his time reading plays would fall in love with. He saves Eloise from a brutish suitor and the sudden firing by her modiste employer and decides to fake an engagement to ward off her suitor and his employer's haughty demanding daughter who would love to marry Patrick. He has found a job he enjoys, that enables him to read plays, but he doesn't think it's enough to support Eloise and her ill mother so he decides to ask one of his friends to marry her instead. Meanwhile he was kissing her and falling for her while rejecting her. Eloise is used to life of poverty and he has his family's support so it's not like he couldn't afford to provide for Eloise and her mother and improve upon their situation.
The Harcourt family story continues in this fun and delightful installment. This is Patrick and Eloise's story. We have met Patrick in the previous books and he's always been so sensible and helpful to his siblings in the other stories. I couldn't wait to read his story, and it certainly did not disappoint! The was a fun story involving a fake engagement to benefit both Eloise and Patrick. Both were tired of the unwanted suitors and reluctantly enter into an engagement of convenience. Reluctantly, at first, but things begin to change. A well-written and entertaining book with some twists that will have you turning the pages. I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely recommend!
I received a complimentary copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I couldn’t wait to read this book I just knew I was going to love Patrick’s story! He has always been so aware and helpful in the other stories about his siblings I was hoping he would do something amazing in his own and I was not disappointed! I loved the relationship that Eloise had with her mother- she was willing to sacrifice to take care of her. I also loved the whole Harcourt family. They each had such different personalities and opinions but they all came together to help each other when it was needed- that seems to be missing from a lot of regencies I read. This book kept me up late reading and I was sad when it ended. I can’t wait for more from this author.
This was a really fun regency romance! Patrick and Eloise are both plagued with unwanted suitors and decide the best solution is to fake an engagement. Of course, complications ensue when they begin to fall in love with each other. I really enjoyed the relationship between Eloise and her mother and of course, loved having many of the Harcourt family members in the story! I am excited to read Harriet's story next!
I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.
This was a pretty good book. While reading the previous books in the series I wondered how Patrick's love story would play out. I'm not very surprised that it played out in the way it did. This follows the fake relationship trope. The moments when they're falling in love are written so blissfully. It's a wonder that the characters didn't work things out sooner, but I guess the book would have been much shorter if they had worked through things.
It's sweet and clean. It's a nice continuation of the Harcourt family members.
The story of Patrick and Eloise didn’t disappoint! Of all the Harcourt children, Patrick was the one that chose his passion for reading plays over the chance of love and marriage. He was the second son so he wasn’t going to inherit the title.
Along came Eloise and her mother, that were in need of saving. Patrick came up with a plan to help Eloise as well as himself.
But things don’t always work out the way we plan as Patrick and Eloise found out.
Their story was not an easy one but love finds a way of happening when you least expect it!
I absolutely adored this romance. Eloise and Patrick are delightful and refreshing in that neither have high standings or are rich beyond belief. They are very likable because they are simply working their way through life during this time period.
This was a wonderfully edited book that made reading through it a breeze. It kept me so captivated that I finished this book in one day.
I am seriously considering buying the rest of the series and reading them as well. Highly recommended.
So happy to read Patrick's story, his lady was delightful and gave us a different take on regency romance. Fun to look in on all the family, as well. I especially enjoyed the well-timed interest in artworks that all the siblings share, it makes me giggle. Sad to know that we'll be saying farewell after the next and final tale, but I trust Ms Fairbanks will find another family in her fertile mind to share with us.
When Patrick and Eloise each find themselves embroiled in uncomfortable situations with the opposite sex, Patrick actually rescuing her from an unpleasant situation, an idea is hatched. If they were betrothed to one another, their troubles might just resolve themselves. Even if they didn't, it would still give them some breathing room. Well, as they say, "The best laid plans..."
There are a lot of heartwarming and heart wrenching moments. Plenty of angst and wonderfully happy ever after. A great stand alone but you'll want to read the rest of this series. It's a very sweet clean romance. It captivates from start to finish. You won't want to put the book down until you finish. I finished the book in one setting.

The fourth book in The Harcourts series a well written Regency story that held my interest until the end. I enjoyed reading Miss Eloise Beaufort, and Mr. Patrick Harcourt's story of an arrangement that turns to love. These two will have their ups and downs. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A sweet regency fake engagement romance. I liked reading this unusual regency trope and seeing these characters together. Most times I read gentility regency, so this was a bit different reading about misses and misters. Very enjoyable.

This is a wonderful story, it will warm your heart. Eloise is a seamstress, working to provide for her mother who is sick. Patrick is a Play write examiner when he meets Eloise his heart goes out to her and his protected instincts kick in . Little did he know that his heart would get involved and both their lives would change forever. Thank you ❤️
I loved the plot, the characters, and how the author wrote the dialog just right to maintain the picture of a Regency tale. I didn't notice many typos at all, and nothing pulled me out of the story. It felt long at times, but the story is very well done. If you enjoy clean, sweet, Regency romance, then I recommend this book.
Loved the book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were interesting. This book had me so captivated from the start, I was completely hooked with the book.

Just when you think love doesn’t fit into your life it comes and takes you by surprise. You realize that you never knew you were missing something so valuable in your life.
This story tells how Patrick finds his true love in the person of a French seamstress he befriends. Like his siblings before him, he has to find his self worth to proceed to his hea
