The Parson's Bride

Rate this book
After serving in the Civil War as part of a Minnesota infantry regiment, Zachary feels compelled to head further west to follow the call of God tugging on his heart. He has finally completed correspondence school and earned a certificate to become a preacher. He accepts a minister’s position in the small town of Blossom in Dakota Territory, but there’s a catch. The church board requires him to become married, and a mail-order bride soon becomes the remedy.

When his bride arrives by train from Ohio along with the spring blooms, he has no idea so much trouble can exist in such a pretty package. Miss Darcy Chenowyth takes his breath away with her good looks. However, she can barely cook or clean, and finding peace and tranquility to study his sermons proves hard won, if not scarce, after her arrival.

When a small town printing press, a boy named Charlie, and the mysterious Old Man Brompton compound their challenges, Zach wonders what else could possibly go wrong.

Loved Zach and Darcy's story! Zach knew he'd have to get married to keep his pastorate; when he can't find a wife on his own, the church ladies step in to help. When Darcy arrives with her cousin's child, Charlie, with her, Zach and the church ladies aren't sure the match will work. When Darcy tells Zach why she has Charlie, he changes his mind. Darcy has to learn how to manage her household, while Zach has to adjust to not being on his own any more. There are a few twists and turns, but, oh, this is a great read!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

This might just be my new favorite book. Lisa has done a great job of creating this story. The characters have different backgrounds and events that make them unique and complex. She conveys this easily. I even caught myself rooting for some of the minor characters. The story is captivating, and I was sad to see it end. I hope there will be more...

The author has penned a sweet and heartwarming story full of fun, interesting characters (both good and bad), historical facts, some surprises, and romance. This is Zachary Taylor and Darcey Chenowyth's story. After the Civil War ends, Zachary completes his studies to become a pastor and accepts a pastorate in Blossom in Dakota Territory. One of the Church Board's requirements was that he be married; so the answer to his dilemma was to order a MOB. Upon the arrival of Darcy as his MOB, life would never be the same. Darcy turned out to be somewhat deficient in some of the wifely duties such as cooking and keeping house and at times life for the couple could be quite chaotic. How would they ever manage? Would their relationship ever reach a HEA? Be sure to read this wonderful story to find our the answers. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

This is a great book about a parson, Zachary, and his mail order bride, Darcy. It's easy to read and faith filled. I loved it. The characters are fun and easy to like. And, the storyline is easy to follow and keeps your attention. There are some quirks, but that just makes the whole story more enjoyable. I highly recommend this book.

Lisa Prysock has written another delightful book in the Brides of Pelican Rapids series! "The Parson's Bride" is a wonderful story of a bride who travels to the town of Blossom in the Dakota Territory, to marry the local parson. But she comes with several surprises. Readers will enjoy the historical aspects of this book and be inspired by the Christian aspects of this book. There are wonderful characters, some lovable and some not-so-lovable, but all are influenced by the good example set by the Parson and his bride. This was a most enjoyable book and I highly recommend it!

I was given an ARC copy and the opinions expressed here are my own.

I listened to the audiobook of The Parson's Bride and totally enjoyed it. The narrator was wonderful and brought the characters to life. Darcy is secretive with her plans to become a mail order bride to Parson Zachary. When Zachary accepted the position of the new Parson of the town of Blossom, he also accepted the fact that he has to get married within the year. So the Church ladies search for a bride and selected Darcy. Zachary is pleased when he meets Darcy, but she comes with more baggage than he thought. She can't cook and arrived with a baby on her hip. Will their faith in God, be enough to bring this family together.
I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

The Parson’s Bride

This was a Great story. Darcy was taking care of Charlie, her cousin’s baby, who had died at birth of the baby. Darcy became a mail order bride in order to take Charlie away from his Dad. He had been forcing Darcy to give him money in order for her to keep the baby. Darcy traveled to Blossom, North Dakota to marry Zachery, who was the town minister. This was only the beginning of the adventure, enjoy.

Darcy and Zach 💞

What a sweet, tender story! Darcy and Zachery were such a kind, godly couple. Even though Darcy was quite incompetent as a wife, yet Zach still showered her with praise.

I loved the interaction with Lt. Col. Brompton! The poor man was such a tortured soul, and through Darcy and Zach’s steadfast love and kindness, he was able to find joy again.

I only wish a 10 star rating were possible 💝

This was just the read I needed: a sweet, loveable escape with just enough drama to keep me engaged. The characters are well developed, the story had good pacing, no lagging or rushing in the telling of the tale. Alexandra Brock does a fantastic job narrating this book and bringing the characters to life. I really enjoyed listening to this book.
