या कहाण्या आहेत बड्या शहरातल्या पॉश सोसायट्यांमध्ये राहणार्‍या, फाइव्ह स्टार हॉटेलांच्या कॉन्फरन्स हॉलमध्ये मीटिंगा करणार्‍या, एनजीओ कल्चरमध्ये राहून सामाजिक काम करणार्‍या माणसांच्या. हा केवळ तथाकथित उच्चभ्रू वर्ग नाही, तर तो आजचा महत्त्वाकांक्षी मध्यमवर्ग आहे. या माणसांचं जगणं कसं आहे? त्यांच्या माणूसपणाचा पोत कसा आहे? सत्ता-प्रसिद्धी-पैसा मिळवण्याच्या धडपडीमध्ये या माणूसपणाशीच तडजोड केली जातेय का?

या सगळ्या प्रश्‍नांची उत्तरं या कथानकातून मिळतातच, असं नाही. पण प्रत्येक पात्राच्या खिडकीतून दिसणारं त्याचं त्याचं अवकाश आपल्याला उत्तराच्या जवळ नेतं. कधी या व्यक्ती स्वतःच स्वतःबद्दल सांगतात; तर कधी इतरांच्या कथनातून आपल्याला त्यांच्या आयुष्याबद्दल कळतं. प्रत्येक व्यक्तिरेखेने आपल्या आपल्या कथनातून उघडलेल्या अर्ध्या उघड्या खिडक्यांमधून त्यांच्या ‘फ्रॅगमेंटेड’जगण्याचं दर्शन घडत जातं.
कथा-कादंबरीच्या सीमारेषेवरील एका वेगळ्याच आकृतिबंधातून साकारलेलं आजच्या समाजाच्या मानसिक-सामाजिक अन् नैतिक आंदोलनांचं भलंबुरं चित्रण.

पुस्तकांना सुद्धा चढता क्रम असतो, हे मला या पुस्तकावरून वाटलं. सुरुवातीला थोडं कंटाळवाणं वाटत होतं, पण नंतर नंतर गुंतलेल्या मांज्याचं दुसरं टोक जसं सापडतं, त्या पद्धतीचा आनंद झाला. यातल्या सगळ्या गोष्टी एकमेकांत गुंतलेल्या आहेत, असं म्हणता येणार नाही. पण कुठे ना कुठे त्या एकमेकांना अलगद स्पर्शून जातात, हे मात्र खरं.

I started reading this book assuming it's a story collection & it is. But after third story, I started realising that though they're different stories; they're revolving around same set of people in same universe.
As a story collection, the stories aren't that great & you don't really get what the author is trying to convey through these stories.
But after I started treating the book as a novel because all characters in each story are connected somehow, it started becoming interesting.
The book is set in Mumbai & that is always a plus for me (might be because I'm a Mumbaikar!). I always love reading how different authors portray Mumbai in their writings.
The author seems to be from architecture background as the book practically revolves around this sector.

I particularly loved how the book ending somehow connected to the starting completing a full circle.

Absolutely engaging!!

I like books about people and of course my beloved city. All stories are separate but still woven wonderfully together.
