Tejas can’t help falling madly in love with his sister’s beautiful best friend Shreya even though she lives at the other end of the nation, in Chennai….and he would do anything for her….even jeopardize his career to travel the length of the country just to meet her.
Thus begins Tejas’s extremely eventful and humorous journey where Mr. Fate pits him, as only he can, against Professor Sidhu who would do anything to stop him; and conjures a host of interesting characters who travel some part of his journey with him weaving together extremely witty plots….and well, Mr. Fate, it seems, has more roles in his ingenious mind for "Biobull" than just remain a rocking bus..
Following in the footsetps of the "other" "IIT'an" book Five Point Someone, this book in one word is a DISASTER. The kid (thats is what i can think of calling the "author", i cannot justify calling the guy much else), is a pseudo grown up, jaded, disillusioned guy with BAD grammar (IIT standards, huh!!!! GAWD), a "I will revelutionize the world" view of love (what is THAT about), and an almost DESPERATE need to cram every expolit in college life he can concieve. The "story"line, follows Tejas Narula who wants to travel to the end of the country (may as well be the edge of the universe, the way he puts it), to Chennai, to meet his long-haired, silver-earring waering, "simple" Shreya, who is not "that" kind of girl.... (read not interested in money, boys, or getting physical), and our kid is the lucky bloke for whom she does, infact, become "that" kind of girl. WHATEVER. Romeo and Juliet would hang their heads in shame with the "pure" love this guy has for his "love" (GAGGGGG!!!!!), aided by his many "brothers and sisters" (his cousins), all crammed into the super large, oh-so-perfect boob tube family. And Mr. Narula, for your iinformation, IIT is not about strict professors and tattletale classheads and mechanical engineering projects and DisCo's (Disciplinary Committees, which I feel was brought into this book ONLY and ONLY because it was there in Five Point Someone). Wonedr what YOUR rank was...... Utter waste of time. I never could finish it and wont. Flip the pages if yu want a lesser painful alternative to slashing your wrists.
There are moments in life when you want to take a pause and look at where you are and everything around you. This book gave me one such moment. As a struggling author, I know how difficult it can be to get across to a publisher who sees the merit in your story. I look back at the struggle of my first book and wonder if Tushar Raheja had to go through the same?
I also wonder if there is any merit at all in the screening processes of certain publishing houses. Has the focus shifted from language and story telling to retain only story telling? Because whatever else I say about this book, it does have an entertaining story.
The book clearly lacks an editorial touch. I do not think it is the author's fault. He is young and the immaturity reflected in his writing is only natural. It should have been the responsibility of the editor to fine tune this write-up.
The grammar is atrocious. It makes me think that the next generation is growing up reading wrong English and believing it is right just because it has been published! Is this really what we want to be teaching our children?
When there is no relevance to grammar and there is nothing to boast about on a vocabulary front, all that does remain is the story. Good teenage drama, decent humor and thankfully no sleaze. But does it qualify as a novel? A short story would justify it more.
Have you ever gone through a book that was so good you kept hugging yourself mentally as you read?? Has any book ever stirred your soul and brought out tenderness that has been lying dormant for quite some time? Well it happened for me and i do not promise it is the case with every one.
When i was reading the book, i thought,i was definitely missing the part of life he was describing. I felt jealous of the experiences he was narrating. Although it was the author deviated a bit in the middle with his long descriptions and his filmy ending, the way he describes little joys in the life, monsoons, train journey and little poetry in the middle was very good.
P.S: Don't compare him with Chetan Bhagat. If Chetan bhagat works are like "American pie" movie, this novel is like "A walk to remember" type.
It is NOT another novel fromanother IITian inspired by Chetan Bhagat. This dude writes way better than Chetan Bhagat. A very warm, nice love story which finally an IITian can relate to(unlike 5.some1). Obviously he is inspired a lot by Wodehouse and he folows in his footsteps well. A very funny and warm love story which doesn't look filmy like Chetan Bhagat books. Looking forward to his next...
They say you can't judge a book by its cover... This one is an exception. You pick the book in the bookstore and you know very well what's coming... So please don't try and find meanings or teachings from a novel like this.
You've some stuff to manage, a meeting to prepare for, an exam to study for, do it... and when you are all done and need to relax, that's the time when you should start with this one. Its a book about love, life, and fun and at least for once it strikes a cord with the reader be it anybody. Its about all those crazy stupid things you can do in love (obviously you don't end up doing it) but then its a fiction and that's the beauty of it.
So I would say I loved this novel, coz I've lived what is called a life at school and college and now PG tooo.... !!
Not worth the time spent on it, i regret having wasted time on it. This book doesn't have anything that i expected, but thank god, it didn't have any sleazy, cheap scenes like the ones of CB. Coming back to this, its full of wit and humor, rather more than that is necessary in a novel. The author would be better off having a blog site writing funny blogs and earning revenue from the google ads on his blog. He need not have to write a book. Absolutely no literary value, you can't even teach your child grammar using this book!!!
Yes, this one definitely describes a college student's life as is, and i expected it go forward and show us what happens afterwards, but it didn't. Here i understood that its just because the author himself is a 4th year student at IITD!!! Awesome, he should just have condensed this novel and written for his college journal instead. Just because one happens to be witty and his friends happen to be dumb, doesn't mean that one should write a novel!!! And this thing abt 'IIT' in the title, is nothing but a cheap marketing stunt i suppose, to cash in.
Nonetheless, i don't want the author to read this review, after all he is a kid and am afraid how he would take this in the bad sense. Well, if you are reading this Tushar, here are some plus points:
You do have great sense of humor and ur style of digressing away from the topic in hand reminds me of one of the Wodehouse books (well, i read only one Wodehouse). You could do well if you try to give out some kind of message through the book, by giving a ending where the protagonist realises his mistakes. Also, please avoid coincidences, one cannot accept them even in movies nowadays, leave alone books. Do work a bit on writing a tight script. On a second thought, i did love the way u left the novel at the end, but given that, i would love to see the protagonist learn something (stress more on this, make it emotional, no probs, it will be gud to include sme emotion in a novel full of wit and humor) during his wonderful journey.
Overall, its a time-pass book, better to spend ur 100 bucks on this rather than on some hi-fi magazine!
The most endearing, innocent, sweet love story, with which youngsters can really connect...Though its a love story its not just that...its about life especially of a recently turned youngester:)and what makes it an extraordinary novel is the fact that its insanely humorous :) anyone who wants to have a good laugh...go for it :)When i was reading the book,i thought i was definitely missing the part of life he was describing.I felt jealous of the experiences he was narrating.Although it was the author who deviated a bit in the middle with his long descriptions and his filmy ending, the way he describes little joys in the life, monsoons, train journey and little poetry in the middle was very good.Nevertheless the climax was sooooooooooo romanticcc :)
My sister gave it to me some time ago and I was like chalo let's read it ..The moment I started reading it I gave myself satisfaction that I will read it afterwards..I didn't know I won't read it for months and when I finally read it today I was feeling like what a crap this book is ..
I am sorry Tushar (the author) this book seriously sucks ...
I appreciate your effort but I just hated it .. I don't know how it is national best-seller..
Let me tell you my sister doesn't read ..This book was given by the author to her when she was in college..
I am regretting why she took it from him that day...
I had read this book long back, maybe in my late Teen days and at that time I had loved this silly Romance.
It shows how one can run to far lengths to impress / love someone. As seen in the book, there are various antics the author describes like Faking a trip, Breaking his own legs, Writing letters etc which the protagonist does to meet the love of his life.
There's always that one book which you fairly loved to read in your young days and then one fine day you are like "I really Liked THAT? Well, Anything for You, Ma'am: An IITian's Love Story is one such book for me. I won't like it now but I've rated according to the time i had read it.
This is a good clean book with humour…love..emotions… -Tejas and Ria Didi’s conversations…tooo good… -His first date with Shreya…no doubt in saying this as a Ideal date for any couple in love.. -The professor’s episode… -His every try to meet her…shows his love for her…. -Twists throughout the story… What not…not just this and that.. Everything in this journey to Chennai to meet Shreya is amazing….
Anything for you, Ma'am tells the story of Tejas Narula, an IITian (IIT Delhi) who falls in love with Sherya, his love. And for her sake, he with his friend's help manages to visit her home town in Chennai by skipping the mandatory Industrial tour. The book is all about the the college life in IIT, the journey of the protagonist, Tejas from Delhi to Chennai, his mental skirmishes with Mr. Fate and lastly, the Biobull, a revolutionary bus. Interestingly, all the above proved fruitless to me :(
I would give it a negative star rating, if I could. Avoid this book like a plague, unless you like plagues, and also boring stories written to follow the success of Chetan Bhagat. If someone recommended this book to you, secretly that person hates you and wants you to take a hint. Although a GREAT use of this book would be to turn it in to a flip book, that way you will put these pages to a better use.
Read this a long time ago, don't remember most bits about it. But I do remember hating every bit of it. Please don't read it if you love yourself. Thanks.
This is the author's, Tushar Raheja's, first book that I am reading. I also learnt from the back of the book that he is also the author of another work of fiction titled Romi. I've never heard of that book, though. There is not much to be expected from him. Actually I picked up this book because a friend of mine asked to read it. So here I am writing the review for it... And one more thing, he is another one from those generation of IITians who turned authors.
Plot: The whole story deals with Tejas Narula's, the protagonist ultimate journey to meet his love, Shreya Bhargava, who lives in Chennai. On the verge to take up his journey, Tejas tries all the best possible adventures. Perhaps, misadventures. Tale filled with college misadventures and comic entanglements are a result of the twisted hand of fate.
My take on the book: First of all, I couldn't help but notice that both the author and the protagonist turn out to be the students of IIT Delhi...........
Firstly, I would appreciate the author Tushar Raheja for penning it down and succeeding in getting it published. Secondly, I don't understand how could publishing house published it without even brushing up its grammar. As an author he did what all he could do but failed in meeting the standards.
It was the story about Tejas Narula's and his journey to meet his love Shreya Bhargava, who lives in Chennai. It was a sweet love story to which all youngsters can connect with. The soul of this book is all about the conversations between them - they resembles a good teenage drama with decent humor.
It was a good entertaining book but with awful grammar. It was my first book to start my reading hobby. For a beginner it would be a good book to start but if you are a lover of language and interested in learning it, then this is definitely not a book for you.
This one is for memory and I liked the book very much when I read it. Maybe I would give this book one more read but my copy was falling away, maybe I will another one. :)
People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
A shit of a book, Couldn't even complete reading it, read it long back, may be more than a year and even now when someone recommended this book to me, I got an anger shot, I dragged reading it to more than 70% but after then couldn't tolerate it anymore, and cursed myself for reading and wasting my time on it...
A waste, total waste, this is the one of three books I feel so out of numerous I have read. I feel bad for author writing this as he also must have worked hard but it's a fact, nothing interesting in the book at all.
I , hereby, forgive my teenager self for giving an outrageous 5 stars to it. But honestly, it was way better than what many others were writing on the same genre. It even mentioned Milan Kundera's 'Slowness' (yeah, I was that easy to impress). I had emailed the author on Valentine's Day. He never replied. Sigh. What a drama queen I had been. It's okay, younger me, we all go through that phase.
Quite pathetic, I anyway Hate the IIT genre of thrash writing that has flooded the markets. This crap doesn't have even campus life or wit to keep me going. To Tushar Raheja, please stick to electromagnetism because you really CAN'T write a novel.
A page turner for sure! The novel has quite a good storyline...could have been more intense, with a lesser doze of philosophizing, glorifying and contemplating about 'everything'! Some editing and the book will deserve 5 starts all throughout!
Nothing gr8 u'l find here........but if u r luking 4 something entertaining den go for it......d story has huge potential of being woven into a masala bollywood movie.....infact dis is wat d buk itself says(read at the back summary)
one of the worst books I ve read...the actual plot could have been covered in 40 pages but the author extended it to 250 pages adding all cheesy and filmy content. We can just flip through that part. Not recommended for people who are expecting something on the lines of five point someone.
A plain narrative & an obvious story full of some unnecessary events, too detailed n lengthy plots & sober dialogues. You can see all this in any indian movie..nothing new, a typical indian love story...!
