Many kids suffer from allergies and have to learn how to administer their own treatments. In “Mirai”, the main character helps children understand what allergies are and how they are treated safely. Author and mom Monique Pereira creates a bilingual children’s manual for both English and French speakers.

It’s so important for kids to be aware of their own allergies and those of their friends at school. The illustrations by Chantal Piche convey each emotion and situation precisely. The main character, Mirai, has to be careful due to her peanut allergy, but through her bravery and honesty, we are able to know how to identify treatments like EpiPens. All kids will be able to read this book and understand what it’s like to have allergies, and what they or their friends may have to do in order to stay safe.

Amazing Bilingual Book

I love this book - and, the only book that I read is Facebook.
I love that the main character is a young girl - teaching her classmates about allergies. She takes her teachings a step further by demonstrating how to use an EpiPen and what to do after the Epipen has been used. Oh! Did I mention that this book is written in both French and English. The text is clear and I don't have to squint to make anything out - perfect for every age!
Don't take my word for it, grab a copy for yourself. Don't have the budget for it right now? Borrow it from your local library.
This is a "must-read" for those who have food allergies and for those who don't have food allergies.

A great children’s book explaining in a way for children to understand an allergy (allergies) and how to deal with a situation when it comes up. A wonderfully detailed way to explain what it is like to have allergies and what to do in an emergency. I have had allergies my entire life and I wish there was a book like this for me when I was a kid. I love the fact that this book is in both English and French. I highly recommend this book to families that have children with allergies and also to those who do not for a better understanding of what we go through.

Nowadays, who doesn’t know someone with an allergy, whether it be food or environmentally related? This book is a must read for all! It helps kids understand what it means to have allergies and in the event of an emergency, how to help. It is an extremely easy to read yet fun and informative book. It is so well thought out with cultural nuances even added in to help bring awareness to diverse cultures. You can tell that this book was very well thought out. Kudos to Monique for her forward thinking and for helping bring awareness to such a crucial topic!

I speak French and it's been invaluable at work so naturally I want to teach my girls. This book is an amazing help in doing so! Not only does it help in the French aspect, but helps the girls better understand allergies as so many kids have them! GREAT resource, highly recommend.

In today's day and age where allegeries seem more common be it because we are more educated and/or changes in lifestyle choices it is refreshing to see such a wonderful book for kids. The illustrations are wonderful and the translation between english and french is impeccable. While the author's intention was most probably to give us a wonderful tool to educate the young generation about allergies, this book can also be used to teach kids another language.

I think this book is magical!
Kids need to know about the allergy so they can understand it. Our Nephew, Kelly, had the exact allergy and my sister Louise had to run to the school with the Epipen to give him the shot - when they were paint-blowing out eggs (for Easter) one year. He never ate anything but the egg white touched his mouth and by the time she got there his nose was sticking out just a bit from his swollen face.
Close call. This happened many years ago.
With the kids learning about allergies, this book could save lives if others understand its meaning.
Every school and library should have this book for the kids.

This is a beautiful, well written picture book for children an adults that tells about Mirai and her allergy to peanuts. She tells about her epinephrine pin and how to use it. This book is well written, child friendly, and beautifully illustrated. I highly recommend this book.
