They say you can never go home again, especially when an all-powerful psycho is lying in wait to steal your magic.
I’m not the same Becka Rowan who left the city. I’m back with new powers, a new job, new roommates, and a list of dead fae that’s getting longer by the hour.
That last part sucks.
Still, I’m excited about my future, especially now that I have Quinn by my side as my live-in bodyguard? Boyfriend? Partner in solving crimes? All the above? My will power is damn near ready to crack with Quinn. By the way he looks at me when he thinks I’m not paying attention, he knows it.
When my missing cousin turns up dead, the mystery isn’t who killed her, it’s who the Shadow-Dwellers will target next.
Spoiler alert? It’s me.
They’ve proven they'll do whatever it takes to reach their goals, including attack those closest to me. I don’t know what’s worse: knowing all of my loved ones are in danger, or the guilt that I could protect them if I just give in to a psycho’s demands for my blood.
After lifetimes spent spinning data webs in information technology and crafting alchemy in a winery, Candice now pens tales filled with murder, magic, and romance in the paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and science fiction genres. She likes to throw fierce, clever heroines off cliffs and into the arms of heroes who stand at the ready to catch them.
“Shadow Underground” is the third instalment in “The Shadow Series” by Candice Bundy, an urban fantasy paranormal romance series featuring Becka Rowan, the ungifted half of a Fae twin sisters, who was exiled to the human world upon her birth, for her lacking of Fae powers. A human world that do not trust Fae, gifted and ungifted alike. Becka eventually went back to House Rowan in the Fae realm, after her twin sister’s murder, but her life continued to be as complicated as ever.
Now after surviving a poisoning attack at House Rowan, Becka is back in the human world, with Quinn as her personal live-in bodyguard and perhaps even more? Becka is looking forward to exploring the extend of their relationship. One thing is clear though, they are still partners in solving crimes, as the murder of Becka’s cousin shows. Quinn and Becka join their wits again in the investigation to catch the killers before they have a chance to strike out the next name in their list… Becka, who is the Shadow-Dwellers next target. They want her blood, and will keep on killing until they got it, unless Quinn stops them first, or Becka eventually gives in. Another captivating and fully satisfactory instalment into an already amazing series.
Candice Bundy series is very well-written, fast-paced, and action-packed, with an exceptionally well-developed world, that successfully addresses each character’s personality and the rich social interactions between them. Nevertheless, the! story is – as it should be – first of all, an urban fantasy story, designed to entertain, something it does in spades by mixing a ‘whodunnit’ plot with a romantic subplot into a very satisfying Fae related urban fantasy tale.
As usual, I loved this book! I stayed on the edge of my toes trying to figure out where Becka and Quinn's relationship was headed! I am fully invested in this relationship. Lol. The writing was beautiful and full of plenty of twists and turns. Bundy never ceases to amaze me with her writing! I received an advanced copy of this book.
Shadow Underground holds more suspense and danger for Becka Rowan. She is back in the city now, a place she is more familiar with than the Fae territories where she was spending all her time in the first two books of the series.
If you have read the first two books in the series and are familiar with the background, this book may just be better than the first two. At least we now have some idea of what Becka is up against.
Becka is being pursued by a group of people known as the Shadow Dwellers. They steal Fae magic by killing Fae and drinking their blood. The head of the Shadow Dwellers appears to be a female who calls herself Mimir. Mimir finally reveals why the Shadow Dwellers are after Becka, but her reasons don’t make much sense. It has something to do with an ancient Shadow Dweller prophecy, and how Becka and her Null gift are going to lead to the Shadow Dwellers somehow being restored to their original power. But only if Becka comes to them willingly.
To inspire Becka to come to her willingly, Mimir has her minions going around killing and abducting more and more people, targeting especially Becka’s friends and family. My opinion: this Mimir is a nut.
Meanwhile, Becka is trying to do too many jobs at once. She is, as part of her community service obligation, working with the Enforcers, specifically trying to solve the Shadow Dweller murders. She is also working for house Rowan, which is selling her services as a Null to various Fae who need to have magic removed from something. And, finally, she is working as the Fae liaison for the university where she was previously studying. This means she is doing things like participating in panel discussions about trying to improve relations between the Fae and humans.
In all this, she fights with and has romantic interludes (although not enough) with her favorite Enforcer, Quinn. She also meets some new friends. But the danger level keeps escalating until Becka is finally forced to confront Mimir.
Speak about an all nighter…. then read this and speak again about the all nighter… I believe after reading this series I got the message of this feeling that you can’t put the book down to do something as fleeting and unnecessary than to simply sleep instead of reading the next page..chapter…book… So, this was the end. The end of Becka’s story. The end of magic, Fae, Shifter, Humans and Shadow Dwellers. It was very interesting to read the third book, indeed. Ok, secretly I am a big fan of the first one, twice as big of the second one and a tiny big fan of the third one. But I think that’s due to the fact that it is seemingly the last one. And there is where I am not ok anymore. It has to come to an huge showdown with… yeah, with Beckas new friend. And I will wait for them. Definitely! Please enjoy your read, do it in order please. Believe me when I am saying that I know what I am talking about ☺️.

Shadow Underground picks up right where Poisoned Shadow ends. Becka and Quinn are now back in the city living at Aunt Lydia's and trying to find the Shadow-Dwellers. Candice Bundy does not disappoint again with all the action, suspense and second guessing packed into this book. Although I loved the story in general, the last third of the book really did me in (I was up until 3:30am finishing it because I could NOT put it down). We learn some new interesting things about the Shadow-Dwellers, the Great War and of course Becka's new powers. We also get a deeper look into some minor characters who take on bigger roles in this story. I will admit, I thought this was trilogy and wanted to see how everything worked out but boy was I wrong with that cliffhanger. I'm super excited that it wasn't the end and that we will get to see more of Becka and her friends/family and continue in this amazing world.
This is my first book that I've read by this author, it's the 3rd book in this series. I had no problem understanding the storyline even without reading the first two, the world is fascinating and well described. I found all the characters really interesting and fun, the storyline itself is very unique and draws you in immediately. Everything is well paced, I will definitely be picking up book 1 and 2. This is an extremely good series with so much to instantly love about it. I have kept my review spoiler free, this is something you need to read and experience yourself. It will not Dissapoint.
In her fight against the evil Shadow-Dwellers, Becka seemed to be at a disadvantage even with all her protectors. Exciting and intense the way things were unfolding for the leads. Much suspense and mystery that kept me thinking about different outcomes. The characters were interesting, intriguing, and strong and the magic kept me on my toes, waiting to see what would happen to Becka. I liked the detailed descriptions that appealed to my imagination and made me visualize how Becka was discovering well-hidden secrets. Lots of action, suspense, drama, exciting fights, violence, romance and passion. Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received free from StoryOrigin and enjoyed it.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I was excited to be about in this world with Becka and Quinn. They still have not really out a label on their relationship. She is allowed to go back to the city to live with her aunt. She has been accepted into the house of Rowan now that she has powers, but this does not stop the Shadow Dwellers from coming after her. They will target her family to get to her. They say her blood is part of a prophecy. This book is fast paced and page-turner and I loved that. I had no choice but to read it all at once.
Have thoroughly enjoyed the tale of Becka and Quinn. The trials and tribulations of going home under such sad circumstances and then finding out she had new magic and was under threat made an excellent starting point and Quinn investigating what was going on and throwing them together was perfect. Some wonderful characters and the description of the fae lifestyle and their interactions was very well written.
This is a wonderful urban fantasy mystery! I liked it so much! It is fun and exciting to read, with super characters and clever mystery. Love the relationship..
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Action packed ending as Becka faces constant danger while dealing with new clues, love, friendships and trying to stay on top of it all to save those she loves. I received a copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was once again sucked into this book with its drama and mystery. The characters have dealt with plenty in the previous two books snd this book continues that trend. It was another fantastic read.
I requested a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Candice Bundy – Shadow Series Bk 3 – Shadow Underground – Reviewed 5/17/21 – Read 5/13/21
Becka is back in the city after the loss of her twin, what’s next, the enforcers or back to school?
Becka Rowan has now been accepted back into Rowan House since the discovery of her new powers, and finally, they have allowed her to go back to the city to stay with her aunt, Lydia, to figure out what to do next. Accepting her powers has been hard on her as no one knows how they work exactly. She also knows that the threat by Mimir, the leader of the Shadow Dwellers, is putting her life and others in danger, but she has no idea how to fight her. Her desire is the find them and eliminate Mimir, but nothing she has done yet has given her any clues. The messages that Mimir has left for her, “FIND ME” & “JOIN ME”, have led her nowhere. At least Quinn is in the next room, but she worries that telling him that she has received these messages, and not shared them with him will not be good for their relationship. Hiding in her room seems the best thing to do for now.
Well, the phone call from Professor Traut is a step forward, he mentioned having something to offer her. When she left before she had been seeking an internship under him, it would be a first for a fae if she could succeed in it. She has an appointment to meet with him and she is certainly going, no matter what Quinn says! At the college, there is another killing, and all fingers point in the direction of the Shadow Dwellers. Oh no! Another message from Mimir, dang, Quinn saw it! Now she will have to tell him everything, wow, this is going to be bad!
Join Becka and Quinn as they battle Mimir and the Shadow Dwellers…
What did I like? I have missed this series; I loved the first two books and now Becka is back, and she has her hands full. She has all of these things hitting her at once, her magical powers, that no one else has, nor ever has had. Now, these new pings going off in her heart every time she thinks of Quinn, not to mention being near him! The new relationship with Rowen House and her parents. Plus, the new job that her mother has dumped on her. Her previous desire of finishing college and getting her internship with the Professor, working towards a better relationship between the fae and humans, is something that she does not want to let go of! Then just to top off that list of things going on in her life, Mimir the leader of the Shadow Dwellers keeps sending these dang messages about “finding her” and “joining her”, which join is out of the question but finding seems to be just out of reach all of the time. And what about the fact that the Enforcers Guild wants her to join with them to help find and eliminate the Shadow Dwellers? Where does she go?? Well, I just love how she does it!
What will you like? Talk about action, it just does not stop, from the beginning to the end, everyone is so busy fighting to survive. Romance is in the air around several of the characters, and new friends/enemies just keep popping up. Becka is fighting for all of the things that she once held dear and trying to cope with all the new things that just dropped on top of her. You will love the new characters that are so unique and interesting, listen to the beat of the drum being counted down as the enforcers work to stop the killings! Candice has stepped up her game, it’s no wonder it took this long to finish this book, she has added so many new elements to Becka’s life, threats, discoveries, love, friendships. All of these will keep you up late at night to finish the last page and reach the explosive ending! Be prepared because, I am telling you, it will blow you away…
I enjoyed the continuation and subsequent wrap up of this first part of the series. I thought it was the end, but it was not....which isn't a bad thing. But, it did end the main story arch so not really a cliffhanger
I do enjoy the series except I find some characteristics of the main two characters to not mesh well. I hope it works out but it seems a bit unbelievable to me.
I loved this series. If flips it tenses back and forth so if you are the grammar police, read it because it is good. The stories were exciting. I don't think this is the last book, but it says it is so not sure. It wasn't a cliffhanger. Most questions were answered, but there is room for the next book or two.
3.5 stars. Becka is smart but also good at making dumb choices. I feel like this assist got a bit railroaded especially at the end. I liked how her power was basically always a problem for her, but then it turned into the 'girl has all the powers and saves the world' thing that's such a common trope.

I enjoyed this series immensely. The characters were well developed & both the far & human worlds were well thought out & dynamic. The ending was very good but left a lot of loose ends. It almost feels like there should be a follow-up series. Maybe a next generation?
werewolves, fae and humans trying to move forward after the great war New powers for Becka Rowan to come to terms with If you love stories including characters like these I recommend reading the series
