Rick Waters, part-time detective and wannabe boat captain, has just solved the biggest case of his life and bought the yacht of his dreams.
As he embarks on a journey to start a charter business in Destin and track down a lost treasure supposedly buried in the Florida Keys, a new mystery appears in the form of Emily, an attractive gray-haired woman who claims to have been kidnapped and had her appearance surgically altered..
Emily has been accused of murdering her late husband, and she begs for Rick’s help to prove she is innocent.Intrigued by the case, Rick agrees to help her find the truth about what happened to her. Emily is sure the people behind her abduction want to take credit for her work as a scientist. She claims she has developed a drug that may be the cure to mankind’s deadliest disease.
The trail leads Rick from Florida to Grand Cayman and all the way to Switzerland, as he uncovers clues about the man Emily believes killed her husband and stole her drug.
The skilled detective must prove who Emily really is and release her miraculous drug before the people who abducted Emily figure out he’s on to them.
Rick will be have everything he needs to solve the case except, time.
Definitely a different beginning. A woman claims she was kidnapped and someone had changed her teeth, her face, and her eye color while she was unconscious. And she was now 2 inches shorter. Oh, and before the kidnapping, she had developed a cure for cancer. She woke up in a motel with new ID and some cash to find her house had been burned down and her murdered husband was found inside. And she was being blamed for that.
There's lots going on in a lot of places with Rick trying to solve her case and doing some treasure hunting at the same time.
I didn't like this one as much as I liked the first, but I'll definitely read the next one if there is one.
Just way too unrealistic or believable. Could’ve been a very good mystery adventure but entirely too much travel guide influence relating every meal, every alcoholic beverage and restaurant they visited on the trip to solve a mystery. It was almost as if solving the mystery was backseat to having a wonderful vacation on a beautiful yacht! Rick Waters was definitely a cat with nine lives because he got in and out of too many crazy situations. And the surprise treasure hunting at the end seemed like it had just been pulled out of thin air to try to add some substance (or confusion) to what the main concept of the story was. Definitely a very mishmash way of presenting the storyline. I hadn’t read book one but it had good reviews and book two was available to me so I went ahead and started with it. Some reviewers have agreed that book two was definitely a letdown after book one. I won’t be going back though.
This story is too far fetched. It leaves the realm reality several times during the book. it is also obvious that the author loves to eat, because at least 10% of the dialogue in the book is discussions about how hungry the characters are, choices of restaurants, and menu items. They eat everywhere they go. I am guessing that by book 3 in this series, that the main character Rick Waters will tip the scales at over 300lbs. I am sure this series will end with him not being able to get out of bed to solve a mystery. He'll just lay in bed all day with a bedpan and his diabetes meds and call people on his cell phone. The only character in the book that seemed to maintain a halfway decent diet was the PARROT!.
Completely enjoyed book one and waited patiently for book two but it disappointed a bit. A decent story but simply too little effort, Rick should have just bought lottery tickets he could do no wrong. The only twist was in the last few pages, every tight spot ended quicker than it built up. Rich guy, fancy boat.......then millions in gold with little mystery and almost no effort. I will probably read the next one but did not find my new favorite author.
Three people are dead due to the creation of a cure for cancer. One of the creators is alive and well while both a husband of the female co creator and another partner are dead. Oddly, the female creator is kept alive but kidnapped to assume a new identity and disappear from sight. Rick Waters, an investigator and treasure hunter, is contacted by the female creator, Emily, to demand his help. Her convoluted tale draws him into the mystery of the deaths and the cause of the cancer drug.
This story has a few twists, a quirky romance, and a lot of good eats and drinks ideas. Rock has Colombian girl friend who disappears halfway through the story to bring into the story another character, long trusted friend, Possum. Rick is independently wealthy now after solving an earlier mystery in Book 1. Therefore, he now lives in the world of wealthy spenders so that he decides to spend lavishly on his girlfriend. Because she is free, independent, and has a job offer she leaves halfway through the story! No more desserts!😂
The case of the mysterious deaths, a very rich and successful creator of the cancer cure, and a crazy story about Emily, takes off after the here today, gone tomorrow romance of Julie and Rick. We learn of Liam, the cocreator of the cure for cancer, who lives in Zurich, Switzerland, where we again learn of how the really wealthy live., Rick Waters travels to Zurich with a friend to try to learn all that Liam is doing in his pharmaceutical business. On the ruse of being a reporter, he gains an interview with Liam, a strong suspect in the mysterious deaths.
In addition to investigating crimes, Rick is a treasure hunter. This is another subplot in this really strange novel! It is not enough to try to solve a mystery based on greed and profits, but now we go deep sea diving for gold!
It is a thrilling and unbelievable tale that has many twists and turns. From sexy Colombian women to a treasure hunt for gold while trying to solve three murders, Rick Waters find many hats.
I found the ease with which Rick solves his many dilemmas a bit unlikely but well thought out! No doubt that that Rick takes every precaution in his sleuthing. He does screw up occasionally!
I recommend the book but I did not like his girlfriend leaving him after he gets into real trouble. But there are future books ahead where she may show up again! I found the solution to the mystery as unbelievable as its beginning.
This was so so bad. I wonder if it was written by an eighth grader. It starts with the most ridiculously unbelievable “mystery” which sends this egotistical detective (?) off to the Cayman Islands Islands. Then there is literally half the book about he and his girlfriend staying in an extravagant hotel, scuba diving, eating exotic food and, of course, having a great deal of sex. Soon after she goes off to do something else. She added nothing to the story - except perhaps a warm body for all the sex. It was just so poorly written. I wanted a Clive Cussler-esque adventure. I got Jack Goes on Vacation.
Vanishing Waters by Eric Chance Stone - (Rick Waters #2)
This is book 2 in a series but this reads as a stand-alone book. Rick Waters is part-time private detective/treasure hunter/budding charter business operator who lives on his boat and takes ad hoc cases when the story a prospective client tells him peaks his interest. The book takes the reader on a roller coaster of adventure and intrigue with a plot twist at the end. I was engaged with the characters and kept turning the page to see what shenanigans the crew got up to next. A solid 4 stars read.
I did not care for this book at all. The main character was not very likeable and ethical in his means of getting somewhere. There were excursions in the book that had nothing to do with the main plotline, such as a detailed description of a meal or the food being served with a lover who anyways leaves him, and had nothing to do with the story. I guessed the plot half way through the book. Now, this is not to say that this is not a book for someone else. It is just not my style and language and type of book. It will be for others!
This is the first book I've read by Eric and it was fantastic. Rick Waters is a very nice guy, talented in many ways and has ethics and morals but isn't the least bit stuffy. He's a guy of love to meet if he was real..along with Jesse and Chase Gordon ..from other authors. Possum and John ie are great and boy do I love Chief..I'm an avid bird lover too, I've had 2 Senagals..used to babysit a friend's Cockatoo who wss convinced he was a chicken. Have already downloaded more of these books..I'm hooked.. Thanks Eric!
I enjoyed the first book in the series, Blue Waters - and felt it was a solid first novel. I was looking forward to this new entry in the series but was very disappointed :(. I could not finish it. Juvenile dialogue. Unbelievable situations and a shared our-of-body experience were too much. Was Drowned in minutia with not enough plot or tension. While disappointed in this effort, I am willing to try again if there is another book in the series. Come on Eric, I’m rooting for you.
Rick Waters is a scuba diver, owner of a fast boat, and a darn good private investigator. When the action heats up underwater and out of the water, Rick's friend from Houston jumps in to help. With a fortune in gold on the line, Rick is determined to prove that he's not just a Treasure Hunter - he's a Treasure Finder! Don't miss this exciting story!
A great read from beginning to end! I need to make sure in future to book 3 hours away from the world foe the next book as it was hard to put down! I was so sleepy because I got up two hours early to read it that I dropped my phone half a dozen times but I still keep on reading! True goodness to the end! Take that Big Pharmacy.
This series was recommended by a Author that has the same ability as Mr. Stone. He can write so you feel like you are actually witnessing the story being read.
I highly recommend this series of the Caribbean Adventure Series. It's a little hard to put down after you start reading.
Much like his idol, Stone flamboyance over plausibility
An entertaining yarn but much like the tripe sarcastically referred to as 'pulp fiction': in every life-or-death scenario, the scrivener creates a scenario that is both ridiculous and typical of little Tom Cruise 'solutions'.
Eric Chance Stone doesn't disappoint with his 2nd instalment of his adventure tales of Rick Waters. His books are like a fine rum, they make you feel good and want to savor every bit.
This book had many twists and turns. It really holds your interest and keeps you guessing. The places traveled were well described. The characters were fun and interesting. I really enjoyed this book from start to finish.
If only someone would find a cure for the big C. Good story though. Fast paced, interesting and a solid tale about man's greed and hubris. And Rick and his boys are magnets for good luck.
Couldn't finish. Within the first couple of chapters I realized I had read a book of this author recently. Continued reading telling myself to give it a chance. The flatness of the characters was too much.
The writing of the author has a good way of pulling you in, even in the not-so-best moments of the story. Great storytelling, but some proofreading errors were detected. Yet, the story was a good read!
I'm looking forward to reading many more of this series. Excellent writing. The story line will keep you turning pages. There is mystery, adventure, fear and romantic life all placed together. This is a must read!
Fantastic adventures, full of action, you will feel like in the movie!
Investigating a crime, and searching a treasure, full action in every page,in the tropical waters at the Keys or flying to Switzerland, the narrative is fluid and very well described.
Rick and his friends come together again to solve another mystery they find themselves in. Rick does his magic of sneaking out of areas and locations that don’t seem to encumber him.
Impressive work by relatively new author. Interesting characters and compelling plot line. Definitely recommend this book to all the Stinnett, Cussler etc fans!
Nice story but the writer has a huge lot to learn. It's written as a children's book. A loose hanging story. The author should read some more real novels to learn the language.
