Gorgeous artwork which offers those who are visually inspired (such as my husband) opportunity to be inspired while they pray. Also, two mediations for each mystery, one short and the other long; both concise and insightful. We finished this quickly, but I know this is one we will return to again and again because my husband especially liked it. 4.5 stars
This is an inspirational guide to praying the rosary as it is now recommended. When I bought this guide, I had been following my grandmother’s booklet from the shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes, which was written in the forties. I was surprised when I started reading this book and learned of all the differences, including the addition of another set of mysteries— the luminous mysteries.
The meditations for each decade resonate with me, both the short summary versions and the more in-depth versions. Pope Saint John Paul II’s introduction is inspiring and Bishop Barron’s reflections are accessible and thought provoking. The book itself is beautifully designed and illustrated with classical artwork. The text has plenty of white space so you can read and pray simultaneously, and a pleasing typeface. These seem like minor considerations until you realize that it’s a guide to use daily.
Fast, beautiful read on the Rosary and the mysteries, given in great detail and thought, shedding light on hidden meanings within the practice of the prayer of saying the rosary.
The most helpful how-to for praying the Rosary. The guide is detailed and provides every single step, the meditation explanations for each mystery are thorough and easy to understand, and the photos are beautiful!
Book 3 of 2023 — The Rosary by Bishop Robert Barron
I have had this book for a long time but I have finally written in all the fruits of the mysteries. I count that as having “finished”!
This little booklet is wonderful to keep at hand. It has artwork, long and short reflections, and the structure of each set of mysteries.
Bishop Barron is one of my favorite Catholic writers. He has such depth and the profound ability to get right to the heart of the matter. I bought this book from Word on Fire and it included a rosary that I keep in my bag for my boys to use when we are at a loose end.
This short book is a beautiful resource for anyone looking to pray the Rosary. It not only contains a guide to the structure of the Rosary; Bp. Barron also includes a meditation for each mystery. These meditations are useful for beginners to orient their mind while praying the prayers of the Rosary, like I was when I picked this book up. I am sure they are useful for the experienced devotee, also. Bp. Robert Barron illuminates the mysteries of the Rosary through this short book.
I reference this book a lot when praying for reflections. Wish it had a little section on the history of the rosary. But I enjoy the reflections tremendously.
Incredibly insightful. It’s important to understand that the rosary is an all-encompassing vision of Christ through the loving eyes of His Mother Mary.
