Faucian Bargain: The Most Powerful and Dangerous Bureaucrat in American History

Rate this book
#1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller As seen on Tucker Carlson Tonight As heard on Glenn Beck and Mark Levin “In his famous Farewell Address, President Eisenhower warned about allowing public policy to become captive to a scientific elite without regard to the principles of our constitutional system and the goals of a free society. Eisenhower was prescient. During the COVID crisis, states like New York that embraced unadulterated Faucism saw poor results across the board, while states that pursued an Eisenhower-style approach like Florida protected freedom and performed better in education, economy and health outcomes. Executives are elected to lead and make tough decisions, and such leadership cannot be outsourced to health bureaucrats like Fauci.” —Florida Governor Ron DeSantis “In this important book the authors do the job our uninquisitive media has failed to do throughout this ordeal. Confirming with cited and sourced details the enemy of both liberty and logic the lockdowns have proven to be. Which also proves too much power in the hands of an unelected bureaucrat, regardless of his intentions, can no longer be our new normal.” —U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) Can liberty survive in the hands of one all-powerful, unchallenged, and unelected bureaucrat? It wasn’t too long ago that the average American didn’t know who Anthony Fauci was. Now, after the coronavirus has spread nationwide, he’s arguably the most powerful bureaucrat in American history. But is it dangerous for a free society to concentrate so much power in the hands of an unelected official? Who or what holds Fauci accountable? “Steve Deace is a true patriot whose zeal for liberty is undeniable. Every day, Steve walks the walk when it comes to fighting for Americans' fundamental rights. This book is written with a keen understanding of the pain and devastation we've all seen throughout this pandemic. Throughout, Steve's passion for protecting Americans' freedoms is ever-present.” —U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (TX) “This is an important book, to both get answers to how we got here and to help us never succumb to something like this ever again. Permitting unelected bureaucrats to hold this much power indefinitely doesn't end well.” —Mark Levin, New York Times best-selling author and talk show host “In their typical fashion, Steve Deace and Todd Erzen spare no expense in pursuit of truth. We’ve been told a lot of things during this pandemic, and a lot of them contradict each other. This book uses documented data and sources to cut through the clutter, most of it Fauci’s, and bring us to a place of reason and science.” —Glenn Beck, New York Times bestselling author and Radio Hall of Fame broadcaster

"Faucian Bargain" has a confusing message.

On the one hand, it paints Dr. Tony Fauci as a dangerous power-mad demagogue intent on taking away our essential freedoms. He may even be in the service of Satan (hence the book's title). Yet the authors also sneer at him as a "big-mouth wannabe". C'mon fellas, make up your minds - either Fauci is a dire threat to the Republic and our American way of life, or he's just an annoyance.

Authors Steve Deace and Todd Erzen are a pair of ex-Des Moines Register staffers (Deace was a sports reporter) and right-wing talk show hosts known for downplaying the seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic and attacking proven measures to limit its spread. While not necessarily virulently antivaccine themselves, they seem to enjoy playing to the antivax crowd, as when Deace fearmongered against Covid-19 immunization as "the most rushed vaccine in human history" (never mind the large-scale clinical trials that validated safety and effectiveness) and wondered whether we would be allowed to Just Ask Questions on social media about a vaccine we would be "ordered" to take.

In pursuing their diatribe against Fauci and anti-Covid public health measures, the authors invoke a cast of characters including Santayana, George Orwell and even Pres. Dwight Eisenhower. Eisenhower is quoted in order to stir up resentment against a "scientific elite". Left unsaid is that Eisenhower was a strong supporter of vaccination against a dangerous but less deadly virus (polio), trusting in scientific expert advice as well as speaking on behalf of the federal government's role in encouraging vaccination.

Deace and Erzen piously bemoan the "weaponization and politicization" of the Covid-19 virus, but are intent on doing it themselves to favor their right-wing agenda, and at least in Deace's case to promote an apocalyptic vision.

"Why are we so stricken with panic in our time, shutting down our entire way of life on unreliable and contradictory data, despite the technological advantages we have over them?” Deace recently wrote, contrasting the current pandemic with polio epidemics that past generations of Americans dealt with amid the Great Depression and two world wars."

“Because ours is a godless society, so we are afraid of our own mortality. Deep down we know we are not ready to meet our Maker after denying Him for so long. Therefore, we wait for our secular Messiah, government, to deliver us from that day. Or at least hold it off for as long as possible.”

Got that? Why worry about protecting yourself and your loved ones from serious and potentially fatal infectious disease, if you're confident about going to heaven? (even if it's a bit prematurely).

Read this ASAP

This is a fast-paced and comprehensive read into how a man unknown to us 14 months ago became the most powerful bureaucrat and ascended to cult-like status. Deace and Erzen cover all the ground into Fauci’s hypocrisy, conflicting statements from day to day, and his nefarious proclivities to never let a good crisis go to waste.

We like lambs to the slaughter have been led.

Reading Steve Deace’s book Faucian Bargain was both enthralling and terrifying. What have we given up to be reassured that someone will save us? Wearing masks is no longe an option, it is a mandate, and for what purpose? SCIENCE has proven they are of little consequence. Yet if I want to buy groceries, I must wear one. I cannot go into my church to worship without a mask. And wearing a mask proves I worship at the feet of Fauci. Has the mask on my face become the number on my forehead without my even knowing it?

Excellent read! Fast paced full of footnotes that go with the premise of this book. Not over a year later we can look back and truthfully see what a disaster Fauci did to lead this time in history. Truly astonishing to see so many go along with one guy. This entire time I could never understand why as a country we never demanded a second opinion or multiple experts to guide us during this terrible time. Then realized well, there really is only one Satan...followed by followers. Please read & share. Open your eyes to the lies that most followed. It’s frightening!

This was written in response to the cult-like worship of Anthony Fauci by too many people.

The authors argue that giving unelected bureaucrats too much power is unconstitutional and unwise. They point out Fauci essentially became president for most of 2020. He pushed masks and lockdowns despite a hundred years of evidence showing they don’t work on this kind of virus. Fauci has contradicted himself over and over, proving he is a liar, yet he still has followers who take every word as gospel. He’s either saying whatever will keep him in power or he’s grossly incompetent.

The tone is often snarky and sarcastic, and there are a lot of sentence fragments. I thought this was a little odd until I realized that the authors have a podcast or radio show. Imagining it as an audio broadcast made more sense. The formatting was a bit odd at times, too—it wasn’t always clear when something was a quote or what.

Clean content.

===============
Dr Scott Atlas, Stanford: The lockdown was a heinous abuse of government and misguided police. 46% of the six most common cancers were not diagnosed. 85% of living organ donor transplants were not done. Two-thirds of cancer screenings were not done. Half of the 650,000 people on chemotherapy did not come in for chemo. Half of our immunizations didn’t get done. The United Nations says 1.3 million will die from starvation because we were shut down and couldn’t get them food. More than 200,000 cases of child abuse went unreported. 400,000 more will die from tuberculosis because of a diversion of those resources.

[News] has to be catastrophic all of the time, or people will make their own decisions and go about their lives. And if there’s anything the media in Washington cannot handle, it’s the average American making decisions in their lives without the supposedly valuable input. So Fauci feeds off the media, and the media feeds off of Fauci. Both of them clinging to each other to make both of them more relevant.

Dr. Atlas: Mandating masks for the population does not stop cases. That is just super naive, wrong, and just garbage science really. There is no real science to support that. The World Health Organization does not support that. The National Institute of Health does not support that. The CDC data itself shows that doesn’t work. So that’s sort of bordering on wearing a copper bracelet [to treat arthritis].

COVID-19 has taught us this history lesson [“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”] in the harshest of terms. We consented to unprecedented government oppression and coercion in order to save as many lives as we could, and yet at the time this book was being finalized we were reporting over twenty-nine and a half million deaths anyway. We agreed to an unprecedented lockdown of the health out of fear they would asymptomatically kill our elderly, and still 95 percent of all COVID-19 deaths were to people over the age of fifty anyway. Proving lockdowns don’t work, but they do kill.

I thought it might be an out and out hit piece which would have been OK with me given I feel Tony Fauci is a fraud.

However, it turns out that they did their homework and organized the facts so the book is a fast read and you can come to my conclusion all on your own. If anything, they went easy on Fauci by leaving out the larger picture of what happened after many of his decisions. If you've been paying attention these past fourteen months, you already know.

Excellent!

For a year many of us questioned the opinions of both Fauci and Birx! As one Dr said that all these lockdowns will do is prolong the inevitable! Fauci and Birx should have been fired long ago. They were part of cabal to bring down Trump. They may be responsible for many lost lives because President Trump encouraged the use of hydroxychloroquine that was used successfully in many other countries but their hatred of the President clouded their judgement and it was not used! Disgusting!

This book is not very well written and could have definitely been better if there was more analysis and less diatribe. If the authors were trying to convince readers of their premise, less name calling and less use of cute dismissive phrases would have been more persuasive. As to the content, I make no comment. There is a lot of information out there about the pandemic and the reaction to it, and this book offers some more. Read it, consider it, read and listen to other analyses and make up your own mind. Be an informed citizen.

A quick, but informative read about the Great Doctor Fauci! I remembered Dr. Fauci from the mid-80s and the AIDS crisis. Even then I thought the man had a rather large ego. Most of us who grew up in the days when vaccines were still relatively rare, but momentous experiences, could honestly not have picked out a Dr. Jonas Salk or a Dr. Sabin from a line-up as they were scientists who were rarely on TV but spent a lot of time working on the vaccines in the labs. Dr. Fauci is a celebrity, nothing more. His advice on the Covid-19 pandemic has been more wrong than right. First we were told not to wear masks (Fauci's ridiculous assertion that it was to protect PPE for medical professionals holds no weight since most people were eventually wearing cloth masks and videos even showed how to make one from items available in the home), then we masked up last April, now with a vaccine we need to wear two masks. His frequent snickering behind President Trump, feeding Trump information only to then back down from it and make Trump look like a madman for mentioning things like Hydroxychloroquine (Trump did not come up with that out of thin air!), ignoring the economic impact of his draconian lock downs and refusing (along with the Great Pretender Dr. Deborah Birx) to attend any meetings at the White House if Dr. Scott Atlas, a rational, thoughtful and less extreme doctor, were present shows just what kind of out-of-control ego this mad scientist has. This book, written in a very easy to understand way, points out all the mistakes Fauci made. When asked why so many mistakes doctors often say "it's not an exact science". Well, then stop telling us to follow the science. In the history of the world and especially in the history of medicine, science has been wrong more than it has been right. Time to retire this aged version of Grandpa Munster cooking something up in his basement and get more than one opinion as an advisor to the government on these issues. He is the highest paid ($419,000 a year), non-elected official in Washington. He can't afford to get it wrong because it's not an exact science. We need several different medical opinions and the opinions of economists. This guy is a dictator and the idea that during a health crisis like Covid he could find time to pose for the cover of magazines or engage in Pacino/De Niro banter with dimwitted Governor Cuomo is totally appalling and an example of why no one should trust him. Fire him, get new advisors and open the country up. Vaccines either work or they don't. The takeaway from this book is that either Dr. Fauci is woefully inadequate at being a virologist (as I suspected during AIDS) or he is in up to his eyeballs in the creation and spread of this virus. Or both!

As a regular listener to the Steve Deace show this is not new information but if you’ve never heard the show then chances are you haven’t heard of majority of the studies or articles referenced in this book. It doesn’t deny the existence of covid, just the lies and disinformation being spread by a vast majority of media and government.

Right now I’m trying to count the number of people that are either in my family or close friends I interact with that have contracted covid 19. From the ages of 11 to 94. My 11 year old had barely any noticeable symptoms, 40 year old ex husband was mad tired for a few days then got better real quick, my 66 year old boss who is over weight and bordering on HBP never even went to doctor, only got tested to confirm. My father at 62 again no problems. 94 year old grandmother in excellent health had zero problems. Two older aunt and uncle with considerable health problems in their early 70’s were admitted briefly to hospital and made full recovery. Multiple of my adult friends have had covid. Each of them say it was like a bad flu, my dad and boss said they have had flu that was worse than covid. So my point is that the media has created panic porn based on partially true information overly exaggerated.

Either way Fauci has decided to make public Heath policy consideration based only on the considerations of Covid. Fauci also never once considered the constitution of the United States, nor ever considered the reality that people have the ability to make their own personal risk assessment. As an licensed secondary education educator, mother, wife and member of the human race I want the best for all people, but it’s not up to me or anyone else to decide what is best for each individual or society as a whole. I guess he never considered kids like my son with ASD, ADHD, Apraxia of speech, general anxiety disorder. Not only did he lose his human interaction with his special education teacher, his full time aid, his school SLP and his regular teachers, he also lost his outside therapist that my husband and I pay for because of virus. Then my husband lost his job for 8 months, including losing our health insurance preventing him from obtaining any health services because we couldn’t afford to pay when our income was reduced by over 65%. We couldn’t afford our base bills of mortgage, food and utilities let alone medical care. Bottom line, Deace is right, Fauci is on a power trip, and we all are being played like a fiddle. Resist letting others tell control you. Period just say NO

This book was given to me and since I read widely on topics I was interested in the arguments and facts put forward.

The whole tone feels far more about anger at what happened vs actually doing something about it so as a reader I was put off from the start. The first 3-4 chapters were a solid summation of data sets that do indeed show that in many places Dr. Fauci and the Administration were both unclear in their messaging and often wrong (which could be forgiven if it were noticed). FB is helpful here for those willing to engage the authors data set.

The rest of the book tends to devolve into more conspiratorial language and character assassination based more on conjecture of motives than facts.

As one who is seeking to following actual science vs political narratives I was sympathetic to the frustration of the authors, but from a practical perspective I found very little helpful apart from the authors being able to work out a catharsis for a crisis they wish were handled differently (again a place where I would agree).

As a leader in an organization looking to make decisions about how to navigate the current climate, I would have liked less bluster and more muster in their arguments and suggestion for moving forward.

The Branch Covidian Mask-erade.

The author does all the heavy lifting when researching the Faucian flip-flops. Honestly, Belgian Waffles do less waffling, and Fauci is the belt of bad governance often buckling so often that the holes fray to the point that society's pants fall down around its ankles.

The only error that appears late in the book is when he says T-cells come from the bone marrow. Since he is not a lab tech or member of the medical community I will forgive his faux pas. T-cells are created from the Thymus Gland which explains the link between the endocrine system, the blood, and the immune system.

The author's conclusion is still sound. We have become so terrified of living after self-gratifying ourselves to the panic porn equivalent of the 1980s Faces of Death franchise.

I highly recommend this book be read alongside The Secret Life of Germs: What They Are, Why We Need Them, and How We Can Protect Ourselves Against Them by Philip M. Tierno, Jr.

Short and sweet...

Short so it can really help spread the basics of this WWI like socioeconomic calamity... The book should have compared Fauci to the Soviet Union's Trofim Lysenko....the biblical references are a doubled edged sword...they will appeal to good moral christian citizens but will make it easy for the "scientists" to dismiss even though the logic showing Fauci to be a disaster is irrefutable. Great little book.

Benjamin Franklin nailed it. "A Republic, if you can keep it."

This beyond the dangers of autocrat bureaucracy, details week by week and within who is measuring what. That was excellent. All of the dangerous powers which Eisenhower warned of and about. They worked in sequences, week by week during the Covid 19 Fauci dictations. Lies, distortions and just plain destruction of both economics and individuals or groups as it occurred is recorded here. Much quoted word by word exact from Fauci's mouth. At least 8 diametrically opposite statements too within days or weeks from each other. One within 24 hours denying what he said the day before.

A serious threat disease with an even more seriously decimation recorded in methods and outcome for the populace. The numbers of working positive producing non-dependent will probably never be reached to percentage of whole or numbers alone total again.

The stats of Michigan vs Sweden in length was 6 stars. (Almost exact numbers in population, living densities, onsets etc.) Everyone should read what that respective outcome has become. One without lockdowns, masks, etc.- the other with the highest depth of all negations- even buying seeds for planting in a store or going out on a boat alone being mandated forbidden.

To me the cabals that disregard the Barrington document (44 nations' doctors) and the extreme perversion and falsehood of WHO- was no news. Nor was the efficient lawful assaults and culling against doctors who practiced successful outcomes with medicines not "approved" by those who are making billions (no exaggeration) on the more costly.

Trump was played. Fauci's history is worth the read alone.

I stopped trusting in Fauci when he started to act like he was an expert in a little known virus when the fact was and is, he didn’t know anything more than my next door neighbors. The more he talked the more I could imagine him holding up his finger to determine on any given day which way the wind was blowing so he could gage how he would answer a media who fawned over him. And then when he started acting more like a celebrity believing in his own hype rather than a man who worked for the people, I gave up on believing anything that came out of his mouth.

What I loved the most about this book was the timeline of how we the people were sucked into the COVID mania. How it started. How it progressed. How it evolved into a never ending battle of the government vs the people. We’ve been had by a Wizard that we put on a pedestal. And this power hungry little man has been exposed in this book.

Amazing! Everyone must read!

Finally a real man of God willing to lay out cited FACTS and clear up the nonsense getting propagated by this Covid cult (the Branch Covidians as Deace brilliantly calls them). Its time to start going back to our normal way of life. I have been doing this all year, having Chruch, meeting with friends and family consistently without ridiculous health protocols, and entering multiple customer houses for work every day for a year now without any issue or even a sniffle. Wake up people and smell the roses, go outside without a mask and live you life! I promise nothing will happen except the usual unpredictibility that life affords - virus or no virus.

Worst book I've ever read. If you want a book full of logical fallacies, bad analogies, playground insults, bad writing, terrible references, gratuitous bashing of LGBTQ and JAQing off, this book is for you. This book is a must-read! It does the job that the media fails to do, which is to tell the truth about the Covid pandemic and Fauci. The scientific studies that point to the uselessness of masking and even social distancing are discussed and documented. Don't get me wrong - Covid-19 is very real and deadly, but the disease has become a Covidian Cult. It's gone from embracing scientific evidence and data to embracing a political stance. Chapter 10, "The Branch Covidian Cult," details how today's fear of Covid fits the seven characteristics of a cult. Read this book with an open mind, and then decide if you prefer to live a life of fear without freedom or return to your life with freedom. You decide! I'm choosing freedom!

This book cuts straight through the fog of the last year in an extremely readable and fast paced format. The authors do not posture as experts, but instead heavily quote and cite credentialed experts from leading institutions that have been locked out of mainstream reporting and decision making on COVID by the gatekeepers in media and government, who have made a cult out of Anthony Fauci. The book makes a devastating case that the COVID response has been horribly mismanaged by way of Fauci and those in his thrall.

The biggest weakness of the book is that in the rush to market, formatting errors and typos abound. One or two chapters did not have the block quoting format of the rest of the book and when quotes begin or end is not marked. These do not change anything about the substance of the book, but those resistant to the book's thesis may find these to be an excuse to dismiss the information presented.

This books tone is conversational in the extreme; to the extent that you can almost see the guy at the end of the bar ranting it’s contents at you, replete with tag lines, cultural and biblical references and lines plucked from all your favorite movies. It lacks only the profanity and slurred speech you would expect to accompany such a biting diatribe. The trouble is, as Han Solo says, “it’s true... all of it, it’s all true”, and it’s extensively footnoted as well!

It is clearly not an academic work meant only for experts, intending to exclude the layman by the extensive use of of lofty verbiage. It is, however, a repository of knowledge from a number of experts and scientific studies that have been suppressed and marginalized by media and “experts” who are shown to have been speaking out of both sides of their mouth, as well as other places. The studies are clearly explained and appropriately connected to the circumstance in ways that expressly demonstrate that the path we chose may not have been the correct one after all.

For a book with such a casual tone and more reference drops than an Ernest Cline novel, I was surprised at the way they were able to pack such short chapters with factual information. Not a single claim in the book, to my knowledge, either in support or opposition of view, was made without referencing either an individuals own words or a scientific study, which was then cited in the footnotes.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in, or open to, information about the COVID-19 pandemic and the governmental response that goes beyond the talking points and actually talks about the science and who is really listening to it.

I'm of two minds about this incendiary little book. On the one hand, it's full of great information about Dr. Anthony Fauci's long career of politicized medicine, and will be a handy reference guide even after the Wuhan Coronavirus has faded from the news cycle. There were several times when reading this argument against idolatry that I wished every governor and public health officer in the United States would also read it.

On the other hand, Steve Deace and his co-author snark too much for my taste. Their sarcasm undercuts the force of otherwise-cogent arguments for not making a star of Dr. Fauci or his acolytes (and he does have acolytes).

The book's editors don't seem to have done its authors any favors, either.

It's worth noting (as this book does) that Anthony Fauci was against mask wearing before he was for it, that he lies shamelessly whenever he thinks lies are "necessary," and that he had no problem endorsing random hookups with strangers on Tinder "for those willing to take risks" at a time when church congregations had been told by many governors to stop gathering for in-person religious services.

Deace and his co-author perform yeoman service in reminding us that Dr. Fauci steered millions of dollars in funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for "gain of function" research away from the constraints imposed by American-style oversight. "Faucian Bargain" also introduces us to lockdown skeptics with impeccable credentials, the catastrophically wrong Imperial College model of virus impact that that informed too many early policy decisions, and some of the luminaries who signed the "Great Barrington Declaration," only to be ignored by Dr. Fauci and most of the media. Inconvenient facts like those tend to be memory-holed by people who lionize the doctor or assume without evidence that all other specialists agree with his feckless recommendations.

In short, this book is a valuable public service that I would recommend highly if its coauthors had had discipline enough to dial down their sarcasm. Sadly, the tone of righteous anger throughout the book administers too many lumps to what could have been dispassionate analysis.

Deace and Erzen present a strong case against Dr. Fauci, masks and lockdowns. While accepting the covid-19 virus is real and dangerous for high risk groups, they provide ample evidence to show Fauci's contradictions and how masks mandates and lockdowns are not only not stopping the virus, but making things worse.

It was published quickly so there are a lot of typos, but these are easily ignored given the enormity of evidence presented.

This was clearly thrown together PDQ. The info is excellent but, could have been better presented and the punctuation was atrocious. The lack of commas made me reread so many sentences. It's a must read, especially if you follow Scott Atlas or any other person who had the audacity to question the Great Fauci. If it was about the science, queries from all sides would be welcome to prove the science.
