Sweet, fluffy school romance between college students. One who's ordinary but studious and kind and the other a cool, aloof rock climber who doesn't care about studies. Very slow burn and wholesome romance and the rock climbing was an interesting aspect as it's a first for me to read such sports.
I didn't read the web novel, by the way, but there's no manhua edition so I reviewed this one. This is a completed manhua with 62 episodes of adorable and innocent interactions if you want something light and to clean your palate off dark stories. 😁

dr. solo is so good at building tension & slowburn. lemon lightning is as adorable as it’s title, watching an ning (MC) and qin weihang (ML) slowly fall in love was so cute
i don’t think i ever read a danmei that featured rock climbing so it was interesting learning about that! the biggest flaw i had was that it ended wayyyyyy too soon. things were just starting to get GOOD and it was apparently over 😭 like???? i need to see them dating and climbing together why couldn’t we at least got a few extras or something????
anyways, i read the novel first and afterwards binged the manhua so i’m going to log this as x2. i actually thought the manhua was better in terms of pacing but i really enjoyed getting a better insight into an ning & qin weihang’s thought processes that we got in the novel
if you want a lighthearted fluffy school life danmei definitely check out lemon lightning!

Short fluffy story set in a university setting. I picked it up because I wanted something very lighthearted after the long and very intensely political book I just finished. I'm giving it 3 stars because while it was good, there wasn't much substance to it.
The story follows two college roommates, An Ning and Qin Weihang, who are very different. AN is the top student in their year in the law department, while QWH skips half of the classes and barely manages to scrape by. QWH has his own apartment off campus, so the two of them don't interact much until one day when QWH randomly helps AN out of a small predicament with his classmates. After that, they slowly have more interactions until they become unlikely friends.
I have to admit, I'm very confused about the title of the story. Unless I skimmed too much and missed it, there were no mentions of lemons or lightning in the story in any significant manner, so I have no idea why the book is titled as such...

I had a bit of a hard time getting into this story once the rock climbing started. QWH is an avid climber, and there are multiple chapters spent describing the sport that I found quite boring and skimmed. I did think it was cute how AN was training near the end to be his spotter / protector (i.e. the person who keeps the person climbing safe in case he falls) and how rock climbing slowly became their thing, a weekly date they could look forward to. AN had such a cute birthday wish:
In fact, his wish was not that—he knew that Qin Weihang would definitely not fail the courses. At that moment, when he stood on the top of the rock wall, he had only one wish. He hoped that he could continue climbing with Qin Weihang like this in the future, and that he could also be Qin Weihang’s protector in the future.
I wasn't a fan of QWH initially; I didn't like that he misunderstood AN's relationship with his tutoring client and was mean to AN because of that. Poor AN, he was so confused and their interactions were quite awkward during this time.
I found it weird some of the small plot points were never resolved as well... the peeping tom that AN and QWH and gang caught with their hidden cameras was never punished, nor was AN absolved from the forum post questioning why a scholarship student was able to afford an expensive iPhone. Students at this school have way too much time on their hands if this kind of stupid gossip post can become the talk of the town, if you ask me.
The story ends when they get together, but I would've liked to see some extra chapters about their relationship after becoming official.

Muy slice of life y tranquilo ~
Realmente me gustó el personaje de An Ning, sin embargo siento que le faltó un poco más de tiempo para que se desarrolle un poco más y allí siento que lo hubiera amado completamente. Qin Weihang no me gustó mucho, es como que le faltaba un poco de sazón. Es guapo, es escalador, es guapo, es rico, es guapo, pero and then??? ¿Qué más? Siento que le faltó personalidad. Además, me pasa lo mismo con su relación. Siento que tuvo poco desarrollo, aunque de igual manera seguí leyendo esperando que pasen cosas. Esperando el momento en que ambos se gusten uno al otro, pero fue un poco decepcionante.
Y NO PUEDO CREER QUE SOLO HAY UN (1) BESO
Realmente es algo que tienen que considerar si quieren leer esta novela.
En fin, también quiero mencionar que tengo miedo a las alturas y esta novela disparó mi ansiedad un par de veces. Sobre todo en la última escalada.

Not much of the plot... about how a school grass(Qin Weihang) and top student (An Ning)met each other, liked each other and finally got together . Not special. But also not bad.
One thing that was clear to me all through the 65 chapters was that Qin was rich and handsome, so sometimes you do get tired of how this story describes Qin's handsomeness, height, coolness and perfection( It was way too much and repetitive). Also the multiple scenes of rock climbing and all those terms were a bit tiring if you are not into that sport.
About the title it should have been called "Rock Lightning" the only references about "lemon" was about the exterior wall's color of the dormitory, it was mentioned 3 times.
The ending was kind of a joke... in the very last chapter they kissed, they confessed their love to each other (obviously while they were rock climbing) and that's all. It seems the author got bored and decided to end it just like that.

An Ning es un estudiante de derecho, aspira ser un gran abogado y por eso estudia mucho. El día que llega a su residencia en la universidad conoce a Qin Weihang, conocido por ser uno de los chicos más lindos del campus.
Son compañeros de habitación pero Weihang nunca vivió en dicha habitación.
Para An Ning es todo un misterio, durante las clases es que ellos se van acercando de pura casualidad.
Por otro lado Qin Weihang, a quien todos dicen que debería haber seguido otra carrera por su belleza, demuestra tener un alma noble y justa. A él le gusta la escalada y es un poco asocial. Cuando un compañero se encuentra en problemas, tanto él como An Ning lo ayudan y se crea una amistad y un interés.
Si es verdad que la historia es un poco lenta pero se desarrolla bien y te atrapa, el arte también es hermoso.

i'm sorry but i just can't help but judge qwh's choice to go to uni and especially picking law, he wasn't interested in it at all, barely came to classes and didn't even care so what was the point of even starting 😭 like ohhh his father would be mad that he picked such a major, seriously??? also he was apparently super cool but he gave me such boring vibes. it also feels so unresolved, so many things could get some explanations
overall i should stop reading every novel that i see mentioned without checking what it's about bc then i end up with something like this

It’s a nice slice of life read. Super slow progression. Romance come (implied) last 5 chapters. LOL. Like seriously no dog food at all. 😅 The ending IS SUPER SWEET I DIED BUT that’s it. Thats it? LIKE WHATT 😂
No extras too. The entire novel was just MC self narration about how he loves-like-amazed with ML. Hahahaha okay don’t read this if u want fluff and romance. I’ll give this an OK. Because dude.. there’s soo much unrealised potential 🥲

Although the ending is quite abrupt and i would have loved to read more about these two cuties, i'd still give it a 5*... It's a quick read and i enjoyed learning bits about rock climbing -- makes me wanna try it sometime hahahaha
Wish there were extras though. Guess i'll have to leave the rest to my imagination.

November 12, 2022 rating was 3.0 because what I read was the manhua.
Will update this again when I'm done with the novel. I am currently at Chapter 48 (note dated February 23, 2026). And I can already say that this is so much better than the manhua.

February 25, 2026 rating, still 3.0. Would have given this a 3.5 or 3.75, higher than the manhua, but there were a lot of arcs in it that seemed to not have been resolved. E.g. when MC himself became the object of rumors. I'm not even satisfied with his immediate family relationship, I still feel it's unresolved. The ending is just as abrupt, after that very long slow burn. This should have a sequel, where the characters are adults. Sure, it's all about the process of getting together, but what comes after?
