I finally graduated with my nursing degree and now it’s time to celebrate. Out with my friends, I come across the man of my dreams. Tall, dark, and oh so sexy. When I see him with another woman, I move on, after all it’s just a night out and it’s time for me to focus on my career anyway. Until we end up at the same hospital. I had no idea he was a doctor, and now he’s become the forbidden fruit I see every day.
Mike
At this age, I’ve had it with relationships. Call me sour, but nobody is faithful, and I’d rather have a taste and move on. Then, I run into the beauty from the club. I was attracted to her immediately, but didn’t make a move. Now, after spending some time with her, I might be convinced to change my tune about being a one-woman man. She’s smart, funny, and driven. Everything I’ve ever wanted. But she’s a lot younger than me, can she be trusted? We’re locked into a contract at the hospital together, only one way to find out.
Sharon Woods writes spicy, feel-good contemporary romance novels. Based in Melbourne, Australia, with her husband and two children. She drinks a lot of coffee, loves to workout, explore new places, and has an unhealthy addiction to reality TV.
I haven't read a medical romance in a while, but this hit all the spots! An amazing debut, absolutely adored it, fast paced and super steamy like I like them! Made me wish I had my own doctor Taylor!
As a gal who likes plot this ain’t for me… as a gal who doesn’t like every minor detail described in length this book ain’t for me. And as a gal who hates the words “my $ex” this book certainly ain’t for me… hopefully the next one will be better?
By now you all probably know I’m not a contemporary romance gal, but Sharon has corrupted me in the best way.
This medical/age gap romance was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Alice’s and Mike’s relationship was GOALS as they worked through realistic issues together. Alice was a believable heroine who I feel like anyone could see parts of themselves in.
Doctor Taylor is Sharon Woods’ debut novel. This is an age gap, medical/workplace romance between a famous orthopedic surgeon and a recently graduated nursing student. Alice Winters went out with her friends to celebrate her graduation from nursing school while there she had a short encounter with Dr. Mike Taylor and there was insta-lust/insta-attraction conveyed through a series of intense stares. Fast-forward to four months later where Alice’s focus is on her career as a nurse. She is supposed to follow Dr. Taylor and learn from him. The attraction between Alice and Mike is intense, but any relationship between them would be inappropriate.
Overall, this book had a great plot with lots of drama, misunderstandings, and interesting characters. Mike is a 38-year-old, successful, playboy-esque doctor. Alice is sweet, but fiery when necessary and focused on establishing her career. I liked these characters, the buildup with their relationship, and their backstories which added to the dynamic nature of the characters. The supporting characters were fun too, and I enjoyed their presence in this book. Mike, while much older than Alice, seemed immature and not what I would expect from an older, famous doctor. I liked Alice throughout the book, but I felt she forgave Mike too easily.
There were a few things I didn’t particularly enjoy in this book. In my opinion, some sentences felt awkward and this could be due to differences in American and Australian English. The ending also felt quite rushed, but I did enjoy the HEA these characters got.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read with an interesting character dynamic, drama, and misunderstandings.
I'm always down for a romance book with the backdrop of the medical field (Grey's Anatomy is my favorite show), so Doctor Taylor had a lot of things that I really loved. Alice has finally graduated nursing school, so she goes out with her friends to celebrate which is where she first laid eyes on the top orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mike Taylor, but went her own way after some flirting. Little does she know that she'll end up working with him in the future, and man, he certainly didn't help himself by treating her badly at the beginning of her working with him. He's the big issue I had with this story since he seemed very immature for a man of his stature who people trusted their health to. He messed up over & over again after they started getting closer & Alice kept forgiving him so easily when she should have told him to kick rocks until he got his act together a bit more as I'm a cynical girl who won't put up with a man messing up over & over again because life is too short but that's just me. I hope you would decide for yourselves because despite my issues with Dr. Mike, I found Sharon Woods' writing style very addictive so I'm super excited to read more by her! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I enjoyed Alice and Mike’s journey… it wasn’t perfect along the way but that’s what made the story good! The sweet, inexperienced nurse and the hot, broody doctor were loads of hotness together!
This looks like the authors debut novel and while its not the best story I ever read before, it was enjoyable and I liked both main characters a lot. At times I felt Dr Mike Taylor a bit immature and a bit much. But I liked Alice throughout the book and at times she seemed more mature than Mike. I wish she had been less forgiving to him and I felt the book tied everything up a bit to fast. But overall it was an interesting, hot and fun story.
This story takes place in Britain or Australia, I was not 100% sure which. It also takes place a majority of the time at the hospital where Mike is a surgeon and new grad nurse, Alice partners with him where she is going to work as a nurse alongside him for three months.
They meet several months before sorta at a night club when she celebrates graduating. Its very casual and not much happens except a bit of flirting. Months go by and she meets Mike again and finds out that they have to work together and he seems to hate her.
This book is very much a hate to lust to love story and its a bit of an insta lust story as well. I liked that the forbidden romance between the two was not an issue at all. Mike does have an ex who won't leave him a lone and she does cause issues for them.
I felt Mike had issues shall we say. He has a playboy rep at the start of the story but I liked that throughout the story whether he likes/loves or hates Alice he never gets with anyone else.
Alice also was a character I really liked but I felt at times she needed to be tougher and more confrontational and less forgiving when Mike screws up.
As a whole I enjoyed the story and I felt the story moved at a wonderful pace. I liked that we start to understand Mike's issues and I was impressed that he realizes that he has issues and he wants to do better.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love reading doctor’s romances, and I was very excited about Mike and Alice’s story. The thing is, I don’t know what happened with this book, but she and I didn’t get along at all. The story line was interesting – like how they met, how they started working together, the sizzling tension when they were in each other’s orbit (which was every day actually). But in the meantime, it was going way too fast. I was expecting a little bit more of the banter, the slow burn and the angst.
Yes, the love scenes were very hot, and I liked them, but that didn’t change the fact there was no proper communication between them. I got the feeling that most of the time, both Mike and Alice acted like children rather than grown-ups (even though she was quite young). I really wanted to feel more from the depth of their feelings.
I was actually surprised by the ending, because I know how hard Alice worked for this scholarship and wanted kids at a later date, but then again we will never know, because it was never explained.
Alice has completed nursing school and has just gotten acceptance from her top choice of hospitals. She will be working with the best orthopedic surgeon, Dr Mike Taylor. Alice and Mike had an encounter at a club months ago. No words were spoken just intense stares. Now Mike doesn’t know how to act around her except to be an a-hole. Confused about what the program is and why a recent graduate is following around an award winning doctor. The end was kind of rushed and didn’t like how quick Alice changes her mind about going slow and without a real conversation. For being an older guy Mike has some issues. Overall good read. Some slow spots but some really good spots too.
Sharon Woods is a new to me author and Doctor Taylor was such a good read.
This is the story of Alice and Mike who meet on day in a club and this was the perfect beginning to their story and you could feel their sparks immediately.
Later on they meet again at a hospital. Alice starts to work there as a nurse and Mike is the hotshot Doctor Taylor. I loved the medical aspect of the book and it showed so much of the work they do and Mike is an orthopedic doctor and that was shown very realistically.
My favorite part was that Mike always wanted the best for Alice and he did everything for her and I loved all the dates they went on. The steam was also great and now I’m obsessed with doctor romances and need to read more. 4,5 stars.
An amazing debut novel for this amazing Aussie author! I fell in love with Doctor Taylor and his sexy eyes but I think I loved Alice more.. after what she had been through she still pushed herself to succeed, her passion and drive to get to where she wants to be is next to nothing and she still holds back until she knows it’s right for her and not anyone else. A brilliant read!
A beautiful story of a surgeon and nurse. It has age gap, angst and a lot of hot sex ;) I loved reading every second of this. Can't believe it's debut novel of Sharon it's great. Definitely a must read.
What a great story! Bit different from your usual doctor stories. Both H and h have their own issues but the way they come together makes such a lovely story! It finished with a great ending, looking forward to reading more books by Sharon!
I was so excited to read this debut novel and the author did not disappoint!
This romance between doctor and nurse had an insta-love from across the room kind of start. When a random meeting at work thrusts these two back together the sparks fly and the real story begins. This story definitely hooked me at the beginning and while some parts were a bit rushed I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author!
The author skims over everything way too fast and makes every interaction and move about 10 seconds long, so it’s very hard as a reader to understand and keep up.
This is an age gap romance Mike is the older hot doctor and Alice is the younger nurse but they meet at a nightclub months before they work together. It’s a nice romantic story with a few sexy scenes but no real drama befalls then pair. Mike has an ex who cheated on him and is trying to get back with him and he has massive trust issues because of this and another issue from his childhood. Alice is the one who melts his heart and after a little break up due to his trust issues find out they need each other. I did think the ending was rushed though and could have expanded more and Amanda seemed like she was going to be a crazy ex stalker but then she just disappeared which based on her previous actions wouldn’t be something she would do, but overall it’s a nice romantic story without too much drama.
I think I am a sucker for a medical romance, and especially when it’s a good one. And this one was…. GREAT. Mike and Alice make my heart go all swoony and they are so adorable. At first I was having a lot of doubts about their relationship, especially when Mike was giving Alice kind of a cold shoulder and he tried to ignore the heck out of her. Also I hated when they were normally talking and then out of nowhere they stare red shouting at each other. ( made me laugh tho) But then i warmed up to him and I completely love it. BUT. He is a little too fast minded and he assumed the worst of Alice. That made me so mad at him, he didn’t even listen to her and didn’t know the whole situation, but yet he decided to accuse Alice of really REALLY unforgettable. His lack of trust is connect to his past, and I’m so glad he GOES TO ACTUAL THERAPIST and tries to figure out with her his problems. I don’t have any problems with Alice. She was a strong and kind person. I loved how much she studies and how passionate she is about her work. They both are such a sweet couple, I absolutely loved to read about them. Cant wait for another book of Sharon!! LIKE GIVE IT TO ME NOW.
This was ok. I wanted a bit more medical side and less romance/drama. The ending annoyed me since she said she didn't want kids for 5 years so she could establish her career, but snap a month later, and wow, she is pregnant. This really ruined it for me. Also, this is a complete stand alone there is no series, so why were there questions about what was going on with Alex but no answers?? I thought there was going to be an epilogue or something where he was with Blake or taliya but nothing. What was the point of her getting a scholarship to do pre-med if the next chapter you make her pregnant? What happened after the 3 month contract? Was it extended? Did she take another position? There was no mention of her career once she was pregnant. I would have loved for it to have ended with them getting back together than doing a Epilogue of 1/2/5 years later or she finished medical school and then she got pregnant and he has a good relationship with his dad and his brother is with someone etc. It would have been cleaner the way it ended seemed ridiculously rushed. Some of the smut was in weird spots aswell and it annoyed me that they both just seemed to think about that rather than the overall person it was weird at times. Like him trying to apologise but is thinking about sex 🙄 There were weird time jumps as well that were confusing. One day, it's Monday, then it's Monday again or a week past, but it didn't. She called in sick 1 day, but then her supervisor told Mike she called in sick all week, but she didn't. I feel this book was heavily edited but not proofread like they just cut chapters out and didn't realise the impact. Good read disappointing end.
The writing --1st person, present tense -- is very poorly done, which is why I quit reading at page 41. It would read much better as 3rd person, which is what a lot of the narration is close to anyway. It's very easy to change with a word processor; I've done it ( some verbs may need to be changed) The plot is like a fantasy of someone perhaps late in high school or early college and the female lead comes off as sexually careless. Hot kisses with strangers? Strong sexual arousal shows up very quickly and the plot seemed headed more toward more and more sex and only enough plot to fill in the space between arousals. I'm sorry. I read novels for plot, for people doing things that move the story and character development forward, maybe with a slightly bigger cast so there are more people and their thoughts, actions, and reactions. A story that seems to be mainly about very strong sexual feelings does not interest me. If I wanted to read about lots and lots of sex thoughts and reactions, I'd buy some erotica. The story could probably have been much improved if an editor had worked in it, but it appears to have been self-published and few self-published books have been run by an experienced editor.
I don’t know if I’ve ever given a book a one star rating so this might be my first. This book was truly awful to read I didn’t even finish the last 10%. The dialogue and narration in this story are very wattpad esque. Even the scenes are very unoriginal like when they’re in the elevator and he said “f it” pushes her against the wall and kisses her and she cries and runs away…
Some parts were actually painful to read because the writing is so bad
Also The fight at the end comes from miscommunication! How was it believable at all that he sees his brother hugging his girlfriend and he assumes that they’re having an affair? This guy acts like he is 15 not 37 and the whole story overall is not well told.

All I can say is WOW!! What a beautiful, perfectly written medical romance! 😍🔥 I loved all of the aspects in Doctor Taylor, especially the angst from the very first page, their beautiful connection, the steaminess and the way their love developed! Alice was such a strong heroine, and I adored Mike and his gorgeous alpha ways from the very first page. I also really loved how they met and how it was the perfect set up to the plot. Sharon's writing is so enticing, captivating and I cannot wait to dive into her next book! Highly recommend this read and all of Sharon's books! Chef's kiss!! ☺️💕
I guess simply put, I felt no connection between the H and h. I didn’t see a build in their relationship and there seemingly wasn’t any big moment or conversation where you can understand why and how they fall in love. And I really hate when the h in books is always like “I don’t get why you picked me” as if she’s sooo lucky the H wanted to be with her. I want more confidence out of the h and for it to be made clear that they are both lucky. Also, the timing and pacing of this book was hard to follow and understand, it just felt all over the place.
Loved the premise and general storyline, but execution could use some help. At like 40% i wanted to DNF but powered through. Biggest complaint was the dialogue between characters was too stiff at times too, it just didn’t seem to flow well.
Why do I struggle to DNF a book? This should have been the one. Predictable and unbelievable storyline. Poor writing - chapters are labeled like they are each one POV. But one chapter slides back and forth from each POV. Confusing. Unsatisfying. So sad…
Too much and at the end nothing at all. I had high hopes for this one and it turned into meh.. You get a lot of info and I feel like nothing is delivered well at the end 😕
