Well this was just great. The heroine isn't a nun novice for very long, so that kinda bummed me out cause I wanted some real juicy religious drama. What I got instead was a very solid romance between a Viking and his new bride and their journey to rebuilding her home town and their growing trust in each other. The sex scenes are in the back half the book, but the are much more graphic than I expected. I was expected fade to black.

This broke me out of my reading slump. I think I'm going to just stick with HQNs for a little while.

TW for abusive fathers, a mother who dies by suicide before the start of the book, and sexual assault.

When Amee Evreux entered St. Scholastica Nunnery she thought that she would finally get some peace, but her world is upended by the arrival of Jorund Jotunnson, a Viking warrior who has come to marry Amee as part of a treaty between King Charles and Jarl Rollo.

Despite her fears and misgivings, Jorund is a kind man and Amee finds herself drawn to him and begins considering a new life for herself. Jorund is also surprised by his immediate attraction to Amee and the more he gets to know her, the more he likes her and is convinced that he is not worthy of her. These two seem so right for each other, but past hurts and fears prevent them from truly opening up to the other, and insecurities and misassumptions keep them from sharing their growing feelings. It isn’t until Amee’s life is in jeopardy that they both realize what they stand to lose if they don’t trust the other!

This was a well-written, nicely paced novel with very likable characters and utilizes not only an underused geographical setting but a seldom-used timeline as well. The book has a little of everything, action, warm love scenes, jealousy, past hurts, insecurity, misconceptions and misassumptions, and finally a HEA complete with an epilogue. This author is new to me and while I enjoyed her writing style, I found the continued misconceptions and misassumptions to be dragged out for way too long. However, I did like the story, would recommend it, and will definitely be on the lookout for future books!

You know, despite the 👀 title, this actually turned out to be a fairly cute HR. 🛡️✨

Thor giving a thumbs-up and smiling. (Played by Chris Hemsworth in the movie Love and Thunder.)

Our Nun (novice) is just kinda devout at best. And our Viking Warrior? He’s less bloodthirsty berserker and more gentle giant with a side of PTSD. Both leads have trauma they bottle up, but I rooted for them. I wanted to give them both a cozy blanket and a therapist!

That said, I wish the MMC’s internal monologue had leaned a little more into Norse values. Some of his thoughts seemed implausible for, well, anyone. (Sir, why are you guilt-spiraling for the crime of :::checks notes::: ??)

Another new to me author and this was pretty okay to me. I think I've read the same storyline before. The author left the misunderstandings and the secrets to unravel right until the end. I'm not a fan of the misunderstanding trope so I found it tedious to read.

Steam factor: Mid range. Not very explicit. Pretty standard for a Harlequin Historical.

I’m so pleased to be on the blog tour and share my review for A Nun for the Viking Warrior by Lucy Morris. This is a wonderful historical romance with great characters and messages!

Amée is dynamic protagoinst. She is smart and brave, and even though she hasn’t had the best life, she remains hopeful. I love her fighting spirit and how she never gives up. Amée knows that she can be used as a pawn, and she does everything in her power to maintain some autonomy. She wants to be in charge of her life and not have to bow to the whims of a man, especially a man like her father, who has never made her feel accepted and loved. Much like Jorund, Amée wants to find a purpose, and she longs to find a place where she belongs.

Jorund is eager for a life change. After years as a warrior, he hopes to settle down, marry, raise children, and live in peace. He wants to live an honorable life, but his past haunts him. However, like Amée, Jorund is a fighter. He is not one to give up, especially on his dreams and future. I love how insightful and perceptive he is and how hard he tries to make his dreams a reality.

The romance between Amée and Jorund is wonderful. Complete strangers from different cultures, this pair has a lot to learn about each other, which proves difficult at times. However, even though they are very different, they also have a lot in common. They are caring and compassionate leaders who are searching for purpose, and they each have complicated and toxic fathers who have detrimentally affected their feelings of worth. I like how this couple slowly grows closer and learns to trust each other and how they teach each other about love, acceptance, and hope. Sometimes sweet, sometimes steamy, and always filled with chemistry, their love story is well-paced and developed.

I think this is a great story for readers who like historical romances with well-developed characters, great messages about love and starting over, and a wonderful love story. Thanks so much to Rachel’s Random Resources and Lucy Morris for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Poor smol Amee is thisclose to taking her vows as a nun, finally out from the abusive thumb of her father, when she discovers she's been promised as marriage/land reward to the Giant Viking Jorund. Actually she discovers this when he and his Giant Viking Warriors break down the door of the nunnery and take her. "'I know our marriage was somewhat...forced.' 'You threatened to destroy my nunnery,' she pointed out, and he had the grace to look embarrassed about it." Jorund has a lot of self-loathing, and also a very funny self-talk habit of muttering "stupid question!" to himself while attempting conversation with his new bride. But mostly self-loathing, poor guy.

Anyway, this follows the classic MOC beats of she makes everyone's life better in her homeland where they live, the fort is more comfortable because of her efforts (see The Chief), serfs and warriors are starting to get along. Jorund has Big Secrets because of his Bad Father, and she has secrets of their own, and these two are terrible communicators. "Dare she tell him the truth[...]? But then she would have to admit to the horrors of her past. No, she couldn't face that." and then repeat on both sides many many times. We also get the classic-for-a-reason getting physical, she thinks yum, he thinks, oh I'm a brute better never do that again, she thinks why doesn't he want meeeeee? on repeat as well. And of course the best "his female colleague is probably his mistress, I am Sad about it (but won't mention it)." Lots and lots of see something, misinterpret something here, and it was pretty effective!

I had a great time reading this, but down a star because I made the kindle note at 60% of "Nooooo. Does this mean ___" and it did.

I honestly loved this!!

This is the unlikely opposites attract romance between Amee and Jorund. Amee is a woman about to take her vows to be a nun until she is stopped by the biking warrior Jorund. He claims that he has been tasked by the king to marry her, and she is terrified. Ever since her childhood with her abusive father, she has vowed to never be under the thumb of a man again. The two of them struggle to get to know each other and learn how to live together during this growing period. Their romance is slow, passionate, and so worth the read!

Jorund is this huge viking man that just falls head over heels for Amee. He learns how to soften his heart and let his walls down around her. Their romance is just so cute and sweet!!

This ARC was kindly sent to me by the author in exchange for a review.

It was okay... the misunderstanding dragged until the very end and we didn't had time to enjoy their relationship more.

And also... for how long the misunderstandings went the climax felt flat...for all that tension and building at least I expected more drama 😅
But it was a nice read nonetheless. 📚

A pretty fun and quick read about a cinnamon roll Viking warrior (hee) and a secretly headstrong almost-nun.

This has a lot of similar flavors to a Highlander romance, but I think that feeling made me expect way more external conflict and even danger. Most of the plot and relationship were based on a bunch of miscommunications or hidden truths between the two main characters, which can get frustrating. I also wanted a different storyline for Valda, who could have been such a cool supporting character but was essentially reduced to “the other woman.”

Jorund is SUCH a cinnamon roll (major Paladin-guilt vibes, I really did want to wrap him up in a blanket and protect him from the world) and it’s very enjoyable to watch Amee grow in confidence and self-assurance.

A noblewoman heroine, desperate to get away from her abusive father is a novice in nunnery. Our hero is a Viking who has just been awarded her family's land in northern France. It's also been arranged by his chieftain's wife that he will marry the heroine. She's, naturally, not keen on the idea but one thing leads to another, they marry, and set off to her family's ancestral lands - only to find the serfs happy to see her (him, not so much), the land and supplies in total disarray after years of raids, and the shadow of her parents dismal marriage lurking around every corner. Oh, and our hero has his own familial baggage because - of course he does.

A good, solid read.

3.5 stars rolled up to 4 because I enjoyed the heck out of this and read it in one sitting (went to bed at 1am, oops).

Now, the title is a bit of a misnomer - Amee's not really a nun, she hasn't taken her final vows yet so she's still just a novice. *Womp womp, am slightly disappointed* But she's in the "Fraulein Maria" vein of novices who just don't quite fit the "nun mold" despite trying - she's too wiggly, too apt to daydream, too independent. But would make a great lady of the castle. So her (obviously terrible) father and the French king marry her off to Viking vassal Jorund in an attempt to intermingle the Frankish and Viking cultures through marriage - her father's Evreux estate comes with her as a sort of dowry and it will be Jorund's task to rebuild the estate and town.

10th century northern France is wild, y'all.

The plot isn't quite as bananapants as I had hoped it would be and you can tell this an author still early in her career (you can see the seams in some of the plot devices and there are some rough transitions). But it reminded me of some of Lynsay Sands's earlier historical where almost-nuns are married off to fierce Scottish Highlanders for Romance Reasons, so 14/10 entertainment value. And I did read all of it in one go, so A+ there

I enjoyed this slightly different take on the classic Viking romance. Amée entered the nunnery believing that she would finally escape her father and gain some peace. After witnessing and experiencing her father's abuse of her mother and her, Amée swore she would never again put herself under a man's thumb. But as the book opens, a group of Vikings batter down the door of the nunnery, its leader there to claim Amée's hand in marriage. Amée is furious, frightened, and unwillingly fascinated.

Jorund was awarded the lands of Évreux by his friend and overlord Rollo, aka Count Robert, while the count's wife arranged the marriage to bridge the divide between conquered and conqueror. Jorund looks forward to settling down with a wife, children, and the prospect of peace.

I liked Amée and Jorund. She may be tiny, but she can be fierce when defending her people. She has a fighting spirit and refuses to give up hope of finding a purpose in her life. Jorund was a surprise. He is large and intimidating but has a kind and honorable heart. Rather than rule by fear, he leads with insight and perception.

I enjoyed watching the development of the relationship between Amée and Jorund. He is willing to give Amée time to get to know him and lets her know it is up to her when to move forward. Amée initially intends to find a way to return to the nunnery and keeps Jorund at a distance. But the more time they spend together, the more they like each other. But each has baggage from their pasts that make it difficult to open up completely to each other. Jorund's early life as a Viking warrior has left him feeling unworthy of her and unwilling to tell her why. Amée's experiences with her father make it challenging to trust Jorund, and her misinterpretation of his relationship with the female warrior Valda compounds the distrust.

I loved Jorund's patience and protectiveness as he kept a tight rein on his feelings. It is easy to see how much he wants Amée to be part of the life he dreams of. Amée's feelings for Jorund grew stronger despite her misperceptions, and I liked how she went after what she wanted. A visit by Count Robert and Gisela helps Amée along with that goal. Matters become complicated when Amée's father shows up for an unexpected visit. I ached for Amée as she endured her father's attitude and cheered when she realized she no longer had to accept it. Jorund's protectiveness and suspicions are aroused when Amée is attacked while they are riding. I loved the scene where he confronts the person behind it. The icing on the cake is when he discovers what haunts her and takes steps to end it. I also loved seeing him tell her about his past and how she showed him how it brings out the good in him. The epilogue was terrific.

One of the things I liked about this book was how skillfully the author wove in information about the cultural differences between the characters and the history of the conflict that brought them to that point. I loved the slow building of trust between the Vikings and the town's people. It felt realistic in tone and detail. The descriptions of the land and buildings were vivid enough for me to visualize them easily.

This was my first book by this author, but it won't be the last.

Very enjoyable story with Amée Évreux, a woman who wishes to takes holy orders and Jorund Jötunnson, a viking warrior who is trying to forget his marauding past. Despite their differences and the troubles of trying to rebuild their home and village, they find they like each other, but uncertain to move forward to a real marriage. Love these characters, and found their struggles real, the story flowed well, and relationship moved from slow burn to steamy. Also enjoyed seeing characters from the Viking Chief's Marriage Alliance, but can be read as a standalone. Highly recommend.

What a disappointment. With a title like that how could I resist? And then it's all just click bait unfortunately. She isn't a nun, she hasn't taken her vows and she just fled to the nunnery to escape her father. He's technically a viking but just a sweet guy really. And it's full of tropes that I don't particularly enjoy; will they won't they, mutual pining, miscommunication. And it wasn't terribly written it just was full of everything that doesn't appeal to me.

DNF 62% - I'm so disappointed I have to DNF this. The writing is great and there's nothing particularly bad about this one. I just absolutely loathe intentional miscommunication tropes and the character's refusal to do anything about it. It makes it seem like the character just wants to feel hurt and disrespected. JUST ASK HIM ABOUT IT, AMÈE.

Delightful and rich Viking romance
5 stars

This is Lucy Morris’s second novel, the second of hers that I’ve read and also the second of hers that I’ve enjoyed immensely. Much like her first novel (The Viking Chief's Marriage Alliance), we’re sticking with the Viking theme with this story set in Northmannia (present day Normandy) in 912 AD.

We get started right into the action with Amée finding her life’s course suddenly thrust from taking her vows into the last place she ever planned to be. Married. And to a huge, hulking blonde Viking who claims to be the lord of her childhood lands.

Amée is a delightful heroine and I liked her from the first. She tries so hard to be good, and to find her place in the world but she always feels like she’s falling short. It was hard not to feel a real connection with her and immediately want her to get her heart’s desire. She is rightly fearful over her changed circumstances but I admired the way she couldn’t quite reign in her real nature - fierce and willing to stand up for herself and others.

Jorund is my favourite kind of hero. He’s a huge, hard and powerful Viking warrior - but underneath he’s a little bit broken and unsure. The way he feels so unworthy and unloveable but can’t help but yearn for Amée’s love - it was so yearny and delicious. I loved it. It’s my always adored ‘the big, bad hero just needs a hug from a good woman’ thing.

Speaking of that, this book had a nice sizzle to it - descriptive but not overly explicit. But it still packed quite a punch as the build up of sexual tension between Amée and Jorund was magnificent. When you add in both their fears and how they danced around each other and their attraction, by the time they got down to it, it was satisfying to more than just our main couple. Happy sighs.

What I especially enjoyed about Ms Morris’s previous book, The Viking Chief's Marriage Alliance, was the richness of historical detail that was woven into the romance. This book was no different and painted an intricate picture of the landscape and life of medieval France and the people that lived there. I also love the way that the writing is so clever as to never feel that we’re being bogged down in history yet such a vivid impression was shown to us as readers. After the fact, I’ve realised that much of the information about events and wider secondary characters was all based in fact, cementing my prior belief that Ms Morris’s attention to historical accuracy and detail is second to none.

Overall, this was a rich, romantic and delightful Viking/medieval story with characters I was really rooting for and a satisfying and sigh-worthy love story. This book has really lived up to the promise of Lucy Morris's first and I wish that I could have lived in the world of Amée and Jorund for longer. Recommended and very worthy of 5 stars.

This book was absolute perfection.

The story and setting felt historically accurate and realistic. The darkness of the times was certainly presented, but it wasn’t totally bleak which I very much appreciated.

I loved how the relationship between the characters developed over trying to rebuild Evreux, each having their own strengths and making their own contributions. The pacing of the relationship as they learned to trust each other was perfect. Slow but not too slow, and with some unexpected setbacks that kept the book from being too predictable. Considering that this book is under 300 pages, there was a lot of action packed into it.

There were some misunderstandings, but to me they made sense in the context of the times and in the context of their relationship so I was not frustrated by it. In fact, I felt that they added a good layer of complexity to the plot.

Very good amount and quality of steamy scenes in this book as well! Cherry on top!

1) This is Jess's fault.

2) I don't think she actually intended for me to read this, but it's still her fault. (Love you, Jess xoxo.)

3) This was mostly fine, actually? The characters were interesting and I liked the different setting, and I think on the whole this could've been an enjoyable read that wouldn't have stuck with me for very long. But I ended up being so damn frustrated that the characters did not just talk to each other and, really, books where half of the main relationship thinks that the other half of the relationship has another lover for basically the entire novel is just taking things a bit too far for me. So, yeah idk. This was almost fine, but not quite.

Listen I was so here for this. Kind, giant Viking? Compassionate, fiery woman about to be a nun? Heck yes. I want to see this relationship. But then

BIG SPOILERS

HE MAKES HIS BEST FRIEND LEAVE BECAUSE SHE (his bff is a badass shield maiden) MAKES HIS WIFE UNCOMFY. The wife spends most of the book thinking he’s having an affair with the bff, wife finally gets upset and confronts them, wife finds out they were never having an affair, BUT BFF STILL HAS TO LEAVE. Absolutely hated that plot point. Published in the Year of Our Lady 2021. I know it’s Harlequin but COME ON. Disappointed.

I wanted to like this more than I did. The writing was good, the characters were interesting, but the plot basically came down to the hero and heroine not having a conversation. The misunderstandings went on too long. I will definitely read other books by this author, but I wish the plot of this one had been a bit more complex.

The cover of the book honestly looks like a porn movie, and the title is misleading, but this is undoubtedly one of the best novels I've ever read.

The story is about a noblewoman named Aimée who is NOT a nun, she is a novice, (that's why I say the title is misleading) she lives happily and peacefully in a convent, hoping to take her vows soon, but one day out of nowhere some Vikings led by Jorund appear, obviously the nuns are terrified, the Vikings were famous because they raped, robbed and killed, but these were new times, Rollo was creating in Normandy a land where the Vikings could make lives with peace and abundance, Jorund is precisely one of the men closest to Rollo, therefore Rollo gave him land although in exchange Jorund has to marry Aimée whose father agreed to the marriage, Aimée does not take the news in the best way, but as a woman of her time she has no choice but to accept what her father orders and become her husband's property, especially because her gallant fiancé threatens to destroy the convent, she and Jorund get married immediately and go to what will be their new home. the lands given to Jorund and that one day belonged to Aimée's mother, but the place is in ruins which makes the arrival complex, in addition, people distrust the Vikings while they die of hunger for so much looting, of course that Jorund and Aimée's marriage is full of misunderstandings, secrets, fears, misinterpretations and problems, but also jealousy, passion, love, and protection.

One of the great dilemmas is that according to the agreement that Jorund didn't read because he cannot read, is that if in two years Aimée does not give him children, the land will return to his father-in-law, Aimée reads the agreement and hides the clause from her husband, because through that clause she has a way of freeing herself from him, but as she gets to know him, sees his good side, and the passion between them grows, Aimée doubts that she wants to get away from him.

I confess that I came to this book because I was looking for a novel about rollo, this really isn't it, in fact the protagonists are fictitious and Rollo barely appears, although in the end I'm glad I came across this novel, which I'll admit isn't the most elaborate one, the story really isn't complex : two people who are forced to marry with cultural and religious differences but who end up in love, there are few characters who interact: less than 20. It does not cover a long period of time: just a few months.... BUT... BUT... .

It is a well-written, well-developed story, with ups and downs, with nuances, with intrigue, passion, adventure, and best of all, it is accompanied by believable human characters.

Aimée is not the typical feminist Mary Sue ahead of her time, Our Aimée is a mixture of virtues and defects but above all it is the result of an upbringing full of mistreatment, omissions and loneliness, that and the fear of getting married, made her take the only way out that the women of her time had, entering a nunnery, but Aimée is also cultured, pretty, brave and compassionate.
Jorund is in many ways a typical Viking, rude, ambitious, selfish, who has done bad things in his past, but who is looking for peace, a family, company and who is willing to make amends, he is a good leader, he is brave, strong , and with a sense of justice and equality ahead of its time.

The relationship that is the focal point is well done, it does not have absurd or silly moments, and this is due to the realism of the characters, for example: Aimée never acts in a modern way, she understands the times in which she lives, she sticks to the needs without putting their pride or silly tantrums first.

Although perhaps the sex scenes are too graphic for my liking, I admit that they are well written.

It occurs in a real context of time, and the geographic location is also historical,

The only thing I can criticize is that it really is too much analysis at some point, they are pages of a character's reflection on a certain situation or feeling, but at least it didn't bother me.

In general I can only say that it is a really enjoyable story, and it is impossible to stop reading even if you know how it will end, well they say that sometimes less equals more and I think that applies to this book.

Bring on the Vikings!!!

Anyone who follows the blog will know how much I love a Viking romance and the Mills and Boon/Harlequin authors are some of the very best at writing smoking, sizzling, sexy, smouldering hot Viking’s with feisty, strong-willed, determined, intelligent women who put these hardened warriors in their place. A Nun for the Viking Warrior is no different, it’s everything above and so much more.

A Nun for the Viking Warrior is as gorgeous as the cover, the story will take you on an unforgettable journey that will leave you breathless for more.

Jorund, Jorund, Jorund – ahh, I am all a fluster!!!

What a man, what a character, I have fallen head over heels for this fearsome teddy bear, he may look like the stereotypical violently fearsome Viking but after a lifetime of being one of the hated Northmen, doing all that comes with the job he is wanting peace. He is troubled by his past and what he has seen and done, but as is the case it’s harder to walk away from your past than it is to start a future, but he is resilient, he is determined and works so hard to make a new life for himself. He has held on tightly to the dream of a family; a wife and children, a home and most of all peace. No more fighting, no more pillaging or killing, just quietness.

Amee is a wonderful woman, she hasn’t been treated properly; used by men for their gain, not more so than by her father. She has intelligence and insight too so she knows that she is nothing more than a chess piece which is why she takes her life into her own hands, so she decides to become a nun, fair enough not a life for everyone and deep down not for our Amee. But, her father has other ideas and soon promises her to rugged Jorund.

That first page when he comes to ‘claim’ her had me hooked, I was riveted to the page and from then on I couldn’t book the book down. If I could have got away with locking myself away and read non-stop to the very end, I would have. But, ‘real’ life gets in the way, doesn’t it?

The romance is gorgeous, Amee and Jorund are so different and set in a way they share traits that pulls them together, both running from their pasts, both I suspect lonely and yearning for more, they are both strong and will fight for what they want. I love that they both learn so much about not just each other and their different cultures, but they learn about themselves.

I thoroughly enjoyed their steamy, spine-tinglingly gorgeous romance, their love develops beautifully, it’s slow and steady but oozes chemistry, with longingly lustful glances, dynamic dialogue and each learning to overcome their past and to work through difficulties, they learn to accept who they are.

Lucy Morris is destined to be a hugely successful author, she captures each scene with such vivid clarity, her writing is enthused with passion.

A Nun for the Viking Warrior is a mesmerising, alluring, magical, dramatic and highly original Viking romance, it has the best couple I’ve ‘met’ for a long, long time, Amee and Jorund are amazing, fire and brimstone bubbles between them which then rolls into lust and love.

It’s a beautiful tale of finding love and learning acceptance and compassion.

Passion, adventure, drama and emotion are beautifully interwoven in Lucy Morris’ second historical romance, A Nun for The Viking Warrior.

Noblewoman Amée Évreaux vows to dedicate the rest of her life to God. Amée will not let anyone come between her and her mission to serve the Almighty – until her father promises her hand in marriage to Norseman Jorund Jötunnson. Amée is absolutely crushed by her father’s cruelty. Having at long last unshackled herself from his tyranny and bullying, Amée had hoped to be free of her father once and for all. She cannot believe that he’s so callously promised her to a Viking warrior. Amée vows to never submit to her new husband and to never be under another man’s thumb ever again. But will she end up changing her mind when she gets to know Jorund better?

Jorund is a Viking warrior whose skills on the battlefields are legendary. Valiant, courageous and fearless, Jorund’s mere presence strikes fear into the hearts of mere mortals. Yet, his fierce exterior belies a kind soul and a generous spirit which immediately intrigues his new wife. As the two find themselves getting closer and closer, the spark of attraction quickly kindles yet Jorund makes it perfectly clear that his heart is off limits – even to the woman who has come to mean everything to him.

Will the fearsome Viking warrior ever let down the defenses he has built around his heart? Or will his fear and reticence end up costing him a love that could last a lifetime?

Lucy Morris won plenty of reader and critical acclaim with her debut historical romance, The Viking Chief’s Marriage Alliance and she dazzles and delights her readers once again with her second title, A Nun for The Viking Warrior. Beautifully evocative, immensely atmospheric, intensely emotional and brilliantly romantic, A Nun for The Viking Warrior is a powerful, passionate and engrossing historical tale I couldn’t read fast enough.

A fantastic historical page-turner, romantics everywhere will be bowled over by Lucy Morris’ latest novel, The Viking Chief’s Marriage Alliance.
