Megan Palmer is a widow and mother of a children with autism. She's trying to convince her son's school principal to accept Owen service dog in class.
Luke Wright is hesitant. He doesn't want to say no but he's afraid the furry companion would distract too many things for the other students and the teacher.
That's why Megan propose he spend the weekend with her, Owen and Lily and he'll see how great she is for her son and how well behaved she is. The more time Luke spend with the family, the more he wants to be with them, and not just during school hours.
A sweet romance who also show the challenges of being a parent and how much more complex it is with children with special needs.
Megan Palmer's son, Owen, is on the autism spectrum, but is in a mainstreamed classroom at All Saints Elementary School. But he's having problems, and finally, she suggests to Dr. Luke Wright, the principal, that Owen be allowed to bring his service dog, Lily, to school with him. Skeptical, Luke asks to spend the weekend with Megan, Owen, and Lily, in order to see how Lily works with Owen, and to run over potential problems in the classroom. And from there, a romance starts. But the principal dating a parent is never a great idea, and keeping it secret doesn't work so well.
This was a fun read. Megan is trying to get her autistic son's service dog allowed in his private school. She has to work closely with the principal, Luke, to make this happen. Megan is a very independent person who has relied solely on herself since her military husband passed away. Luke is a very kind man who wants to help Megan, not just because he's attracted to her but because he needs to see things get better for Owen. Owen is pretty adorable in this book. Katie wrote this autistic character very well. Luke and Megan have trouble because they are principal and student-parent at a private Christian school in a small town with a raging rumor mill. Megan is unwilling to risk Owen's future at the school when facing the challenge but Luke shows true character, putting his feelings for her and Owen first, something she never got with her parents or husband. Very good Harlequin happily ever after.
