But when the fertility clinic accidentally sends me a letter addressed to a man whose ID matches my paperwork, I discover my child’s father is none other than world-renowned tennis champion Fabian Catalano—famous for his gorgeous face, chiseled abs, and broody, wildcard reputation.
Only everything changes when the clinic calls us in for damage control—and Fabian drops the bombshell of the century. Turns out the intense Adonis wants to get to know his daughter.
So I invite him to stay with us—temporarily.
Ground rules and all.
And our arrangement is simple … until it isn’t.
Between 2 AM feedings and stolen kisses, my sweet little simple life has taken a very complicated left turn.
But oh, baby. What happens next—is a game changer.
It was a simple, cute love story. I don't even know what to say about it because there was nothing to remark upon. I will forget I read this by tomorrow.

STORY: Sometimes you always read the same themes and concept, but what pulls me in is the way the author conveys the story to me. I loved this story. The moment I got a taste of Fabian’s attitude, I was curious with how this story would unfold. I think if Fabian was too nice in this role at the start point of this story, it wouldn’t have worked for me. He came off moody and grumpy in the beginning, while Rossi balances out this chemistry with a down to earth attitude. I enjoyed watching their story unfold. This definitely was a sweet romance for me.
Even though Fabian is a tennis player, the story stayed focus on his and Fabian’s relationship. So for the none sport romance reader, it’s not heavily sports related and would still be a likable read.
CHEMISTRY: So, I love their emotional connect, but was not a fan of their physical connection. Would have loved a little more in this department because I personally think Rossi deserves it. I felt this was rushed to get it out the way.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: Carina- Rossi’s sister Carina, loved her. I loved her whole family.
Fran- I was hoping there would be an epilogue closure of an after with Fabian. I found myself wondering if they stayed connected.
Overall, I found it to be a pleasant read and found myself invested in the story.
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
Safety: - Both only with each other after meeting - he slept with his ex has been about three months - she hasn’t been touch has been years even though her baby is only nine months old, she is fun, beautiful and has support to go out after the baby was born. I didn’t understand why she wasn’t with anyone in years even though she was single and has only been one year and a half since she got pregnant - she was married but her ex cheated, has been a decade and she dated after him, she had good sex and there is a mention about one of her exes being a generous lover - he of course dated plenty women, was engaged until three months ago and his ex was one of the few women he met who could keep it up with him in the sheets. Such a nice information for us to have. Very useful. - pregnant ex drama - her neighbor kissed her but she stoped it and was caught by surprise. I hate that she didn’t hook up with the neighbor, he was cute and supportive but the author turned him into some crazy guy
I didn’t like it very much. The pace was off. Nothing remarkable.
I didn't plan to read and finish this one in one sitting. I thought I would've just sampled a few first chapters. Nope. I got hooked.
It actually ain't that bad. I truly enjoyed it. The pace was nice and the ow & om drama didn't overwhelmed the story. It focused more on Fabian's journey to sudden parenthood and his upbringing. Which is what I wanted when I started out this book.
So yeah. Definitely recommended if you want a nice sweet read about a guy who didn't want kids suddenly got himself a small family.
This was an amazing book. But then all of winters books are amazing. Rossi is a single woman who lives a quiet life in Illinois. She wants a baby. So she goes to a clinic. 9 months later she has a baby girl. Next thing she finds out who her babies daddy is. Fabian a sexy hot famous tennis player. Secrets are revealed and friends you thought you knew where never your true friends. And family is not who you thought.
THE MATCH OF HIS LIFE ISN’T EVEN ON THE TENNIS COURT **4.25 stars**
“Maybe I came here for Lucia … but I may have to stay for her mother.”
What’s that saying about an “an immutable object meeting an immovable force”? Well, something’s gotta give, and that something is pro tennis god and world-class panty-dropper Fabiano Catalano. He’s all about the game … tennis, that is. Don’t judge. He’s got his reasons. But a certain mix-up at the fertility clinic, a couple of letters, and a meeting that never should have happened brings together Fabiano (37) and down-to-earth Rossi (35). Yep, Fabiano – “the man, the myth, the legend” – never wants a wife and kids, but he’s about to meet his match in the suburbs, instead of the tennis court.
If you’re thirsty for a sweetly romantic and uncomplicated tale, without the usual high drama, no stupid conflicts and also really digs into the feels, then this one hits the sweet spot. Resistance is futile against the sperm donor, the baby mama, and a shared bundle of joy that brings two strangers together in the most unusual circumstance to find love and family no matter how it happens. I grooved on the unique and clever twist of fate that brings the threesome together and puts an opposites-attract couple in each other’s paths for a once in a lifetime shot at getting in touch with what really matters, meeting a girl who’s honest and real without affectations, and a baby Fabiano never knew he wanted, let alone needed. He’s Malibu Ken and she’s Midwestern Martha Stewart in a Barbie body. But, even old dogs can learn new tricks.
Getting to know each other ain’t easy, and Fabiano’s all thumbs with his baby skills and no idea how to woo a hesitant girl like Rossi … but where there’s a will, there’s a way. So prepare for some utterly heart-tugging and sweet moments, some steamy stolen sex, some family depth, and a double epiphany about love.
Fabiano: “Home. That word on those lips makes me feel some kind of way . And I’m here for it.” Rossi: “The after-effects of a mind-blowing sexual exchange with Fabiano Castalano are suspiciously close to those of a mild concussion. A girl could used to this. Even if she shouldn’t.”
It’s not an angsty type of romance. There’s some predictability and tell vs. show, and I was down for more interaction and bonding between Fabiano and baby Lucia to seal the deal, and less of a moving side plot that stole some focus. OW/OM issues (NOT THE CHEATING KIND!), resolved quickly. But, I really enjoyed Fabiano’s transformation, that suburb mom Rossi was an independent woman who didn’t need a man to rescue or take care of her, and that their love was genuine and normal for a rich guy living a jetsetting, celebrity life. And that sweet epilogue. Overall the story left me feeling warm and happy.
“This. This woman with the curves and the hard-hitting questions and the wild dark hair. This is the woman I love.”
for a moment i thought i had finally found a good single parent book because the family moments were very sweet and the baby wasn’t just forgotten by the main characters. however, towards the 60% mark, everything started going downhill and the soap opera drama was just too much for me.
This was actually my first Winter Renshaw book and I absolutely loved it! Cute storyline that was well written and moved quickly. Bunch of good twists for sure. Characters were just wonderful and really had you rooting for them. Ill definitely be diving into this author's backlog!
The Match was a fun and flirty story of unexpected surprises and connections. I loved Fabian and Rossi and thought their banter was sexy, engaging and so compelling. I was addicted to the story right away and love the originality of Renshaw's story!
Fabian and Rossi were fun, fiery, delicious and quite a pair! I loved how they met and how well matched they were. Overall, this was another great read from this author! 5 stars! ~Ratula
Divorced & with a tickling biological clock, Rossi decides to use a sperm donor to become a mom—and that’s how Rossi has Lucia. Rossi’s fine with being a single mom and never expected to meet her daughter’s donor. That is, until the fertility clinic makes a clerical error and she learns that the donor is none other than Fabian Catalano, the world’s most famous tennis player.
Fabian donated sperm for cash back in college and never saw himself getting married & having a family. Somehow the fertility clinic sent a letter to the wrong person—to the woman who had his baby. Rossi is gorgeous and unlike everyone else in California; she’s real, honest and not out for Fabian’s money.
So when Fabian decides he wants to get to know his 8-month old daughter, Rossi offers Fabian to stay at her house for a month to figure things out. Little do they know that not only does Fabian fall in love with being a dad, but he falls for his baby mama too.
The Match by Winter Renshaw is a steamy, single mom, sports romance. The premise of this hooked me and like with the other book I read by this author, I loved the writing. Winter’s books are such easy, engaging reads. And for most of this book, I loved every part of it. The chemistry between Fabian and Rossi is fire. And I loved seeing them become a family. Once we hit the three quarters mark, there was some drama that was kinda unnecessary and the reunification of Rossi & Fabian felt a little rushed. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this romance! 4/5 stars.
*3.5* This could have been such a good story. A fertility clinic mistake, a single mom, a famous tennis player sperm donor, and a crazy neighbor dude. It was well done for the first 50%, then the author tossed in additional drama and ott distractions.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Me gustó mucho, mi única pega es que siento q fue demasiado rápido y trató muchos temas de manera muy superficial y demasiado loco, sin dar tiempo a conectar con los personajes
I really loved this and it would have probably been a five star read but once it got to the 70% mark, it went a little down hill. I felt like the last 30% was just slapped together really quickly. The conflicts and resolutions should have been fleshed out, and I would have liked to have actually seen it on page, instead of the hero telling me about it weeks after. Otherwise, this was a solid read and as always, I’m looking forward to whatever Winter Renshaw writes next.
I liked this book. There wasn’t really anything remarkable about it necessarily but it was a different concept then anything I have read.
There was a twist with Fabian that I didn’t see coming but I do feel that it could have been played up a bit more. I think it was a little bit of a missed opportunity.
The Match was a pure feel-good romance. There was something easy and inviting about it that kept me turning the page. I loved the characters; Rossi was smart, independent, and gorgeous. A character you could really root for. Fabian, a sex-on-a-stick tennis superstar who was attracted to Rossi when they first met. The moment he knew that she's the baby mama, he doubts her real intention. But things change when they spend more time together for the sake of their child. The attraction between them grows deeper. There was still enough of a surprise at the end but everything was well wrapped up and I enjoyed reading this book.
Winter Renshaw didn't disappoint when it comes to contemporary romance with good writing where characters were nicely developed and a storyline that captured me right from the start. Definitely recommend it.
Very forgettable. I really liked it at first, it was cute. But to be honest, it feels like the MMC was there (at their house) for the baby mama, not for his offspring. Everything went too damn fast. You're saying, after 3 weeks together, you want this woman, your baby and her entire family to move across the country just for you? Dude. The worst is that she thought about it for a few minutes before agreeing. I was going to rate it higher but then, the double drama @ 65%. I almost could get over the 'oh no his ex is having his baby, i'm scared blah blah' but then, when he accused her of leaking the photos without even thinking of how she would never do that, she took it like a doormat. He apologized a chapter later, and she fucking brushes it off. NO. LET HIM GROVEL. That wasn't enough. If there wasn't a baby in this book, it wouldn't have been different.
I loved Rossi and Fabian!!! This was a sweet read, fairly low on angst. I adored Fabians transition from “grumpy tennis star who never wanted to children” to the absolute sweetheart who totally melted as he got to know his daughter. Winter Renshaw’s writing is fab and I became so invested in this story that I finished it in just a few short hours.
A quiet read. Nothing fancy. Wasn't expecting much so wasn’t disappointed. Plot isn’t new. The blurb drew me but the book itself didn’t follow through for me. I’m shelving it under sweetish vanilla-ish romance-ish. Very putdownable and the content inconsistencies irritated me. Otherwise okay for those who enjoy the predictability of this kind of read.
I do like the play on words of the title: He’s a tennis player The plot is about donor matching etc
Every time I reach the end of a new Winter Renshaw book I think- this has got to be my new favorite one! And once again, I inhaled another book of hers in record time as if nothing else around me mattered!!! She nailed it again!
The premise of how the couple in question met was definitely intriguing and the anticipation of where things between them seemed to be heading was just feel good, flirty fun in the making to me. A super sexy, world renown tennis player, maybe alittle full of himself and a very independent woman who is determined to live her life a certain way...to it's fullest and alone with her child??? Well, tell me more!!
What brings these opposites together, besides fate, is an adorable, bouncing baby girl and all bets are off as they try to navigate their way into getting to know each other alittle better, short though their time together might be. Will this be the best idea ever or the biggest mistake of all??
Some of the best parts to me, besides the sweet, burning anticipation, had to be the characters and how much I loved them all, except for one or two...you'll know who I mean! The silly oneness that Rossi and her sister had with each other was filled with easy humor- comfortable, sweet and enviable. They had me chuckling many times throughout..I really enjoyed their witty sisterly camaraderie and so did Fabian! How could he not?
What an intense, beautiful man Fabian was, set in his ways, a bit arrogant at first and not at all ready for someone as honest, real and happy with her life as Rossi. He cautiously let her in as he slowly became enveloped in her warm, lively world and found he didn't want to be anywhere else. I enjoyed watching him evolve into a better version of himself as those crazy Bianco girls worked their magic on him!!! It was so much fun to watch it all unfold!
Many times in romance reads, the leading man is my favorite character and main focus. I am delighted when a sexy man catches my eye right away and Fabian did just that, but Rossi had a playful, calming presence of her own that drew me to her. I admired her strength and was fascinated by her cool career choice that added an extra layer of fun to the story for me. Together, Rossi and Fabian were on fire and their sizzling chemistry was the off the charts, weak in the knees kind! HOT, steamy and addictive! Just what I like!!!
Winter closes The Match, which is really such a perfect play on words in so many ways, with some surprising twists and the kind of HEA that any romance lover will swoon all over, including this booklover. The dreamy epilogue was a loving glimpse into what becomes of them a few years into their future life...sigh, I just love a heartwarming end to a great romance. Fabian and Rossi's love story will hold it's first place spot in my heart until her next book becomes my new favorite Winter Renshaw book....I can't wait!
ARC generously provided and honestly reviewed right here!
I was in the middle of reading another book when this hit my Kindle, and I dropped it like it was on fire to read this - the blurb had me that curious. No regrets. This author's work is always unpredictable, with unique storylines that stand out from the pack. I was hooked from the very first page, and the chemistry between this couple was undeniable. Their romance is a total WHIRLWIND, and it held my attention from start to finish. I'm sure I could pick apart the storyline and find some issues (things DO happen very quickly and the ending does stumble a little), but I was completely caught up in this love story and I devoured it in one sitting. So there's no denying how much I enjoyed it.
The story follows Rossi, a woman who is completely fine with raising a child alone. She's got a job she loves, the perfect home for a family, and plenty of support around her, so she went ahead and used a donor's "sample" to have a baby in a less traditional way. That all gets complicated when the fertility clinic accidentally sends a letter intended for the donor to Rossi instead. Suddenly, Rossi knows who her baby's father is... and Fabian knows that he's got a kid out in the world. And while the successful, famous, tennis player has never considered having children of his own, the realization that there's already one in existence changes everything.
I had no idea what to expect going in, and that made this such an addictive read. The story is not like any I have read, and I loved the unpredictability of it. The author is so very talented at creating these original love stories, featuring characters who are complex and interesting. Fabian was such a great character; he's this guy who has everything, but still feels like there must be more out there. I loved his willingness to see where everything leads, and it was refreshing to have a hero be so invested. He's had the fame and the models, but thinks the simple life is a little slice of Heaven. There are some heart-melting family moments in here, as well as plenty of sexual tension. I would've preferred a different conflict and do think that the ending was a bit rushed, but that didn't do anything to dampen my love of this book. It was so easy to binge, and I'm looking forward to whatever this author dreams up next. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this unexpected romance.
Rossi Bianco is the perfect woman. She’s all curves and honesty, tender and selfless, independent, successful, and down to earth. The mother of my child …
The Match is an all new standalone featuring the single mom/sports star romance of Fabian Catalano and Rossi Bianco. She just wanted to be a mother.....after a nasty divorce she decided she didn’t need a “daddy”, someone who should’ve stayed anonymous. But when she accidentally receives a letter from the fertility clinic that was meant for a man matching her donor’s ID. The father of her baby is none other than world famous tennis champion Fabian Catalano, not only is he the hottest man on the planet but he wants to meet his daughter. Four weeks of living together so he can get to know her, four weeks to resist the temptation of him being across the hall. Rules are set and broken, lines are drawn and crossed, and in the end she might be willing to give their new little family a real chance......but it’s easier said than done when there are those around them that would do anything to see it not work. Can a normal girl like her find HEA with a guy like him?
This entire thing is surreal. And almost too good to be true. But we’re doing it. For four weeks, we’ll be one happy little casual family.
I LOVE Winter Renshaw, she being one of the only authors I could ever sign on to review ARCs because I don’t have to lie to give her books 4-5 stars. She’s like a breath of fresh air, giving me new experiences that are unique....this one was no exception. Rossi and Fabian’s story was one that was different in its plot but featured the same talented storytelling Winter is known for. It’s not a realistic story, yet through these two you want to believe it could be. Rossi is a heroine we can all see a little of ourselves in, Fabian is as genuinely good as he is devastatingly beautiful, their journey is one that gives you the feel goods without all the unnecessary drama.....all the while keeping you glued to the page and loving every minute of it.
I may not know Rossi Bianco—yet—but already she’s a breath of fresh-fucking-air. And that puts her miles above any other woman I’ve ever met. Maybe I came here for Lucia … but I might have to stay for her mother.
The Good: Every now and again I’m in the mood for a feel good-er, something that isn’t all super angsty or full of drama.....this is exactly that kind of book. There is a little angst, a little uncertainty, but for most of this book these two are just figuring it out on their own. I liked that, it was necessary for these two to reach that deeper connection. It’s not realistic, I mean the blurb should make that pretty clear....but it didn’t need to be, these two made you want to believe in them despite the unbelievable way they connect.
Speaking of these two, Rossi Bianco is a dream heroine..... .....one that is relatable, the kind you could see yourself in but also one you want to be friends with. Her love and devotion for her baby, the way she is so committed to her career and her need to be her own independent woman. As for Fabian, at first I wasn’t sure how he would be..... .....but soon it’s clear he’s one of the good ones. One of the sweetest parts of this book is seeing his absolute uncertainty when it came to how to be a dad, yet his openness and eventual devotion to being the best one he could be was the ultimate “porn”.
I absolutely LOVED Carina, she is quirky and just added something that made me yearn to know her better. I doubt we will see her again, but I’m still holding out hope we will eventually be able to follow along her journey to HEA in the future.
The “Bad”: There were only two minor issues that prevented me from giving this 5 stars.....the first being that I felt at times Lucia was an “after thought”, that she wasn’t the priority and instead just the piece that brought them together. That doesn’t last long and for that I was thankful.
The other isn’t the fact there isn’t a lot of drama, it’s the fact that the little that is there is so dang predictable. Nothing was a surprise, nothing was introduced without an almost immediate resolution. I do love myself a drama-free feel good-er, BUT I wish that the little bit that was introduced was given a little more time to build the suspense and angst just a bit longer.
The Verdict: The Match is yet another reason Winter is one of my few go-to authors, an author I know is going to deliver one hell of a story no matter what sub-genre of romance she tackles. Rossi & Fabian are easy to love, easy to connect to, and most importantly easy to root for. It you have experienced Winter before, you know what to expect.....if you haven’t, get ready to add a new author to follow. Now just to hope that she eventually revisits Carina, that’s a girl I know has an interesting story to tell!
Nonna always said everything happens for a reason. Who’d have ever thought my reason would be Fabian Catalano?
OMG, I love this story. It has been a while since I have read a Winter story. But when I had the chance to read The Match I jumped at the chance. I love a secret baby story and this story has that and so much more.
Rossi is a woman that is ready to have a family and doesn't need any man to help with any of it. When she decides to go down the surrogate path little does she know that the man she chooses will be the biggest star on the planet?
When the soon-to-be father finds out that there was a mistake done with his sperm he decides to find out who had his child, and what they plan to do with the information. Fabian does not start out as a good man. He is an arrogant man that is out for himself. But while getting to know his child and Rossi he ends up turning into a better man, someone that Rossi can start depending on.
I couldn't put this story down. It is a wonderfully romantic story that has its trials and tribulations but comes out to be a happy ending.
This was a steamy romance between two complete opposites that kind of gave me some Lifetime movie vibes.
Carina is an independent woman who knows what she wants. When her marriage falls apart, she doesn’t let that stop her from pursuing her dreams of motherhood and opts to get pregnant through IVF and uses a donor to have her baby, Lucia.
Everything is going great until the fertility clinic accidently spills the beans about the identity of her mystery donor. Which again, wouldn’t be a huge deal . . . except the donor is known other than multi-millionaire and champion tennis player, Fabian Catalano.
When Fabian finds out that his college “donations” were used to have a child and that child’s mother now knows who he is and how much he is worth, he tries to settle things by offering some money in exchange for an NDA.
Except with both Fabian and Carina being distrustful of the other’s true intentions, miscommunications and omissions leads to a strange arrangement between them. Fabian and Carina decide to co-habitat for 3 months, giving Fabian a chance to get to know his child and giving Carina a chance to trust her baby’s father.
There was plenty of sweet, romantic moments, heated chemistry between the MCs and some outside drama to keep you engaged in the story which I liked. The outside obstacles seemed to be really OTT one minute and then downplayed in the next, with both the ex drama and the unbalanced neighbor drama being resolved quickly and brushed off as almost inconsequential.
I actually wanted more closure for both these characters, especially in the epilogue, I think it would have wrapped things up more solidly than the actual ending did.
* * * ARC provided for an honest review * * * I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I don’t usually read romances, but Winter Renshaw is the exciting exception that makes my heart pound. (Ditto the great books she writes under her suspense thriller pen name, Minka Kent – she’s just so good that I read her books in practically one sitting.)
When a young and broke college student, Fabian Catalano made some money by donating to a sperm bank. Now he’s a rich, famous tennis star who has no interest in having a baby…until he gets a big surprise.
Rossi Bianco endured a failed marriage but wanted a baby, and, fretting about her biological clock she was willing to have a child on her own. She chose her donor and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, agreeing to never know who that baby's father was...until she received a letter mistakenly sent to her by the fertility clinic that revealed his identity. They meet by chance in the fertility clinic parking lot, and there begin the doubts and apprehension of what to do. There is an attraction. Fabian is extremely likeable, not at all full of himself, and instant chemistry threatens. What to do?
Winter Renshaw does a wonderful job creating two realistic, extremely likable characters. Rossi is fun, successful, and happy with her family and her life. What’s most special is watching these two get to know each other, despite many obstacles, for the sake of their daughter. This is a special book, and I loved it!
I came across this little gem on amazon while looking for something else. The title, storyline, and book cover sold me and I had to get it. To my surprise I absolutely enjoyed this story and devoured it in one sitting. My only complaint was that the ending was too rush.
First time reading this author, and now I am so excited to see what else she has written.
When Rossi Bianco decides to use a sperm donor to have a baby on her own, she never expects to ever find out his name. Fabian Catalano never wanted a family but when he meets his daughter, Lucia, he realises that he might have just found what was missing from his life.
It was an okay read for me, nothing particularly memorable, but a very enjoyable story.
I actually wanted more closure for both these characters. The ending felt rushed.
