A friend recommended this book, and I’m glad she did. THE LAST LIE, by R.M. Demeester, is a psychological thriller about the spiraling and even terrifying pitfalls of a lie. Spencer and Victoria are two flawed characters who have an affair, and then a child. Spencer wants to keep his little son a secret from his family, while simultaneously living an illicit second life. When his family and Victoria’s best friend Max discover the lie, the truth becomes deadly.

The ending of this story has a twist and a surprise. It’s a gripping read, well recommended if you enjoy stories of family secrets unraveling.

Tangled web of deception

This book reads like a Lifetime movie and I mean that in a very positive way. It’s suspenseful, unpredictable and enthralling. I loved how we jumped back and forth between Spencer, Victoria and Erin’s perspectives so we got to experience events from all sides. I’m a little mad at the ending cause it wraps up some things and leaves others just hanging loose even though there is an epilogue. Yet all in all a really great story I enjoyed very much!.

The Last Lie is a book with engaging characters, a decent story, and a plot that moves along at a good pace. I would say the best part of the book is the character development. I felt like I knew the two main characters, could emphasize with them, and cared about what happened to them. The building of suspense was well done, and there was one particular good twist that I didn't see coming.

I am giving the book only three stars for a few reasons: there was a lot of repetition of certain phrases; the goals/dreams/wishes of the two main characters were very obvious as they were repeated throughout the story, which got a bit old; and there were a number of grammatical and spelling errors. Also, the author called one of the secondary characters by two different names throughout the book. All of this unfortunately was distracting and took away from the story.

*Note: I received an ARC of this book from Booksprout in exchange for leaving an honest review.

Lies upon lies upon lies through the generations! When all truths finally are revealed-will all be well? And the last lie--the biggest-you won't find out about until nearly the end. The only one affected in a positive way is Spencer's Mom!

I really could not stop reading this until I finished it-but I can not write much more--you will have to read about all the lies by yourself! Just be ready to gasp and wonder and perhaps cry a tear or two. I can not imagine anyone not enjoying this book!

This is book full of lies, not just the last one. A young mother stringing two men along, those two men at odds with each other, and an unknown illegal operation going on. A darling toddler pulling them altogether and possibly pulling them apart. The threat of ruin hangs over all of them. I was gifted this from the author thru Booksprout.

I thought it had a decent storyline, filled with lies and deceipt, and a couple of good twists towards the end, but I couldn't gel with any of the characters. They were all so full of their own agenda with no interesting characteristics. I received an ARC copy for free through Booksprout and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I've read several books written by R.M. Demeester; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

She has written a good stand-alone book. The story is about Victoria & Spencer; she wants to be together to raise their son; he’s keeping them secret from his family and both are keeping secrets that could keep them apart.

This book is a quick read. It is a real page turner, I really like the fact that you get multiple different people's points of view, it makes for interesting reading 📚
It also makes you wonder about people and how easy it is to lie 🤔
The ending is a surprise 😮 that I really did not see coming.
I'd definitely recommend this book for a quick read.

From the beginning of the book, you knew that what you were reading might not reveal everything. Lo and behold, when you get to the end, it was not what you thought.
It does end with a woman finally meeting her grandson.
A few places had too much of an R-rating but overall good book.

This was just okay for me. It kept me interest and I did finish it, but the overall story is just okay. The characters are well written and the world building is good, too. The solved mystery was eyebrow raising - I never even guessed, but the signs were there in the story.

This was an okay story for me. The story line was good, with a great plot twist at the end. I felt like it jumped around at times and left me with questions.

I won't go into detail so as to spoil anything about the plot but despite the premise being interesting I felt the execution left the story lacking in regards to the development of the characters amongst other things. What I found most interesting is that the author didn't try and make either of the main characters, Spencer and Victoria, likeable in the slightest. Their flaws made them the most realistic characters I've read about in a long time, and the third main character, Erin, felt like a honest portrayal of a mother to 2 grown children who have shut her out of their life almost completely. Jumping from each characters perspective it made it easy for the author to do small time jumps which in turn left there to be nothing but action and drama from the first page, allowing there to be no room for unnecessary details or scenes which could drag out for far too long. The outcome of the characters at the end also felt realistic and I almost started to like Victoria due to her choices as she began to become more self aware, all the while still having many flaws and making many mistakes. These mistakes which not only Victoria made, but Spencer too, made them appear much more human, which is a feat I compliment the author very highly on. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, the ending is the only thing which left me unsatisfied with how it was executed. I would recommend this book to any readers looking to dip their toes in the suspense genre, or for a small simple read to pass the time.

The story refers to the interaction between Victoria and Spencer from when she got pregnant till her child reached is 2nd birthday. It brings into play the ramifications of trying to keep something away from your parents and the impact that it has on the other people involved. Spencer in order to support Veronica and his child and identifies the hardship that he is willing to endure to maintain the fact that he has had a child.

Veronica, because of the lack of time Spencer is spending with her and her baby has confided in a best friend, Max. Max has tried to sabotage the relationship between Veronica and Spencer, but Veronica has not been aware of it.

Things come to a head when Max starts following Spencer. Eventually all of the lies begin to catch up to Spencer and one last meeting brings many surprises.

To discover what type of jobs Spencer was doing and what major surprises come out of this meeting you will need to read the book.

I enjoyed this crime thriller. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from them in the future. I found this book to be a well written story that turns up the suspense. The characters are relateable and made the story engaging. I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the beginning and how the characters brought the story to life. This is a story about about secrets and the consequences of those secrets. The characters made the story for me and I truly enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it.

I like to read books with strong characters. There are some in the book but they aren't the main characters. Interesting enough plot. I found myself willing the main character to be bolder about things throughout the story but alas he only was when he was totally humiliated and fiercely angry, at the same time.

Victoria, in love with Spencer, accidentally on purpose gets pregnant. Spencer, who only has a low-paying part-time job, does something stupid and starts working for a drug dealer. This story is full of a twisted kind of romance, includes a back-stabbing friend and an adorable toddler. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this story. Everybody lies, but some lies can get you killed. This story has all the types of lies and where that leads. I think dialogue made the story move slowly. I received this book for free and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

Crime Saga

The story took off well and was engaging, but as it continued it felt weak and I wanted to get it over with. Not really my type of story though some may appreciate it.
