I had the honor to beta this book after reading the first.

The addition of Callum's PoV was fantastic. He's broody, he's hot. He's great.

Sloane definitely grows between the two books and I was here for it.

Things do quickly go south for both of them and the ending may leave you shocked and wanting more.

The Protector is Book 2 in the Night Realm Series by K R Bowman. Creatures and Realmers were fighting and Kingston is in chaos. Sloane wakes up back at home and book 2 is off and running. I liked the story and I found the characters interesting and strong. Sloane has fight her way back into the alternate reality of darkness. The action is exciting and the story compelling and I was left wanting book 3 to be released soon. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

THE PROTECTOR

Blurb :
After the Nightlins attack in Kingston and just at the time when Sloane was about to be ripped apart, she somehow gets teleported to the norm and finds herself all healed in her bedroom. She contacts The Norm Defence and finds her way back to Kingston , again leaving her mom behind.
Kingston is torn apart and is now in reconstruction phase. Nightlins are now able to create portals. Anytime they can break in and destroy Kingston. They captured many people and not sure what they do to them.
Once she returned, She and her friends set off to find Willow, her grandfather’s sword that can vanquish Nightlins. Another adventure sets in. She drags her friends into all this mess.
She learns many devastating truth. Betrayals sets in.
Will she be able to retrieve Willow and kill all the Nightlins? Will she and her buddies be safe out there? Did she find her Father?

My Thoughts :
The second book was too good compared to the first one and had many twists and turns. But yes! I guessed some of them ;) The Author’s writing has a vast difference and I loved it. There were many small things I loved about in this book. I usually wonder what Callum might be thinking all along, and I was surprised to see his point of view in the second book. It was like the author heard my mind voice and started writing according to my wishes. Lol.
Emotions took a stroll. Betrayal, love, anger, regret, pain, oh definitely more pain, power, darkness, monsters, friendship, I totally loved every part of it! I loved how Callum always had her back and the trust they both had towards each other. I loved the emotional bond between Brand and Sloane. Finally Callum and Sloane got more scenes and the way they both worked on their powers were awesome.
But, as always I hate how I am in a cliffhanger and damn the third book isn’t released yet. Guess, I need to check upon the author for writing updates!

I was gifted this ARC in exchange for an honest review! Thank you very much to Love Books Tours and KR Bowman for introducing me to this wonderful world

I rated the first book 3 stars but overall the series so far would be 4⭐s for me! The second book definitely saved the first book for me!

This series is what I would call the PERFECT introduction to fantasy books. If fantasy is a genre that you want to get into but haven't found the right introduction, this is absolutely the series for you!

I devoured this book in about 3 hours! Super quick read and fast paced but it suits the story.

Things I liked

Fast- paced

Callum! Brooding, protective, strong, respectful, seems like an absolute sweetie. Genuine good bean with a bad boy demeanour!

Ash!! Ash is absolutely the epitome of your typical 19 year old teenage girl. Refreshing to see

Sloane - relatable main character! She came head first into the world in the first book and seemed like a natural at everything. But in this book she wasn't great at everything and was a bit of a disaster which made it much more realistic.

The Princess Bride references in both books 😂 I mean 4⭐s just for that!

Love, anger, betrayal, regret, pain, friendship, struggle for power - all accurately described through the eyes of a teenager.

MY GOD THE CLIFFHANGER ENDING

Plot twists. So many plot twists.

The teenagers act and talk like teenagers which is really refreshing. So many books have teenage protagonists who act and talk like adults. But these guys all act 18/19/20 years of age which is nice cause THAT'S HOW OLD THEY ARE

Celest. Irene. Jess. Alvaro. Sarah. All great beans ❤️

Brand. The Scottish Grandda of the story. Loved him.

Things I didn't like (when I say I don't like a character it has nothing to do with disliking the book or anything! The book was great!)

Very little mention of Graham. He played a significant role in the 1st book but wasn't mentioned much in the second at all. Hopefully he plays a bigger part in the 3rd!

Even though Sloane is the main character, I enjoyed Callums POV much better 😂

The writing in some parts was a little off
Jake and James. Power hungry assholes.

Chuck (asshat!)

Harris. (Although I do have a soft spot for him and understand why he did what he did. Hopefully he redeems himself!)

A lot of the story happened in the last 40 pages which is a lot considering the book is only around 260 pages long 😅

Nightlins. They're kind of freaky.

Overall, would absolutely recommend it as a great YA fantasy. This was a world I could definitely get lost in. Can't wait for book 3, which I'm going to guess will be named The Hunter! Hopefully all my questions will be answered then 🥰

Ok so thought this was a Duology but I was mistaken, but book 3 isn’t out yet it’s only being worked on at present, so left on a cliffhanger of what happens next.

We follow Sloane and Callum and friends on their journey of finding more out on her father and family and finding willow the sword to help.

We pick up right after the first book where Sloane lands back in the norm after the attack of the nightlins, she manages to get back to the realm, and that when things get interesting, after finally getting their hands on the sword, Sloane discovers her father and uncle are now nightlins and want her for her power.

After receiving the sword her friends are attacked and kidnapped by them, so Callum and herself go to rescue them, with the hopes that the realmers are coming after sending Harris back to ask for support.

Then it all goes wrong, her father attacked them after they manage to release many of the captured realmers but Callum is taken out of the window and they are separated.

Sloane is captured and along with Ash are chosen to turn into nightins, with being forced vials of fluid to help the change. While all this goes on Callum is marked as a traitor after being made out by chuck the actual traitor, and is battling what to do next, but with help from his friend he escaped and they have to form a plan to help save Sloane and Ash and the norms after the discovery of Sloane being made a nightlins.

We end on a cliffhanger of something about to walk in on Callum and the crew at the night in court.

I read the first book in the series The Watcher and loved it. I couldn’t wait to see what happened to Sloane next and how she would progress as a character.

This book picks up within moments of the ending of The Watcher and the epic battle between the Realmers and the Nightlins. During the battle Sloane was attacked and disappeared. At the start of this book we learn that Sloane was transported back to her home and wakes up in her bedroom. Sloane must then get back to the Night Realm and stop what the Nightlins are planning which could be deadly to the Night Realm and the normal world. Can Sloane find her grandfather’s sword Willow, successfully infiltrate the Nightlin Mountain to rescue her friends and stop what the Nightlins have planned.

I loved how the storyline progressed and the pace of the story definitely kept me on my toes. This book was darker and more sinister than the first book which fitted in well with where Sloane found herself. I had so many questions after reading the first book about the Nightlins i.e. their intentions, how they were created which were all answered in this book. Sloane’s character has grown immensely in this book. We see her powers progress and learn more about the big bad that tried to hurt her in the first book. As it turns out it is someone who she is connected to. At the same time we see both the light and darkness in her character which appears to attract the Nightlins to her. Callum’s powers are also growing at an accelerated rate and in the midst of the impending threat it was nice to see a little romance between Sloane and Callum. Sloane finds out more information about her father’s family and what happened to them, building on the information provided in the last book. I have to say that one of my favourite parts was when Sloane was trying to get back to the Night Realm and uses her computer to find the Norm Defence offices online just by using a search engine.

When I turned the last page I couldn’t believe that it was the end of the book and wanted to carry on reading to find out what happened next. The cliff hanger at the end was just wow and has set up the next book very well. A major battle is coming but the question is who will win.

My thanks to Love Books Tours and K. R. Bowman, for including me in the book tour, and for my copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

After reading book one The Watcher, I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this continuation of The Night Realm. What a great read! The story picks up moments after the battle at the end of book one where Sloane disappeared. She finds herself back home, but must find a way to return to the Night Realm to prevent a disaster.

I really like Sloane. She’s a total hero. From the way she began her journey to now, she has become more powerful, and confident. Great to see another strong female lead in fiction, including of course Ashlen. The strong, loyal, and dependable Callum is equally as likeable, as he works to control his own growing powers. I guess it was a bit of a foregone conclusion that they would find a little romance.

I found that the tension from the end of book one continued straight away, and didn’t let up until I had finished. This was one of those books that you want to consume quickly to enjoy it all, but then have to slow down because you know it will end to soon, and I was genuinely saddened to have finished it when I did.

Overall this book is amazing and will definitely be on my list of books to reread when I can. I recommend it to any fantasy fiction reader, but it is best appreciated as part two of the Night Realm, so read The Watcher first. I gave The Protector, by K. R. Bowman, five stars.

I received a copy of this in return for my honest opinion as part of a book tour hosted by love books tours. 3.5/5

As someone who had not read the first book it was slightly confusing at first but I picked up most of the storyline fairly quickly, just felt like something was missing and I think that was simply my connection to the characters through lack of previous knowledge of storylines and journeys. I found the lead up to the end to be incredibly anti climatic as there is no end to this book per se and instead you would have to read the next edition in order to find out what happens next.

As a standalone book I would've given this a lower review but as it is clearly intended to be read as a set one after another I've given it a bit of leeway. I can't say that this book has made me want to immediately go out and read the first and/or next installment though and there was no specific beginning, middle and end to this book on its own which I think could've been done and would've given the book more. Larger stories can still go on in the background and simmer between the end of one book to the beginning of this book but the books can also be their individual spotlight and I feel that's what was missing in this for me. I might seek out the backgrounds and test of storyline that I missed.

What a world K.R. Bowman has created! I read the first book in the series, The Watcher, and then this one back to back and it was so great seeing the characters grow over the two books! A night world filled with monsters? Self Discovery? Plot twists? I loved it!

I was surprised by how much I found myself being pulled into this world. This is actually a really great fantasy series for those who get turned off by a world building dump at the beginning. The author does a fantastic job of balancing not overwhelming you by building this world and giving you the information you need to understand what’s going on. The addition of Callum’s POV added so much more depth in this second book and I LOVED getting in his head. This book has so many things I enjoy: personal growth of characters, relationships developing, twists and turns, fast paced story, and a monster packed night world! Definitely glad I gave these a shot and will be anxiously awaiting the next book after that ending!

The story was fast and action-packed, the characters genuinely acted like young adults—which is rare and brilliant for YA fiction!!—and it ends on a wicked cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more!

In terms of writing style, the author has grown as a writer since the first book - my biggest issue with the first novel was that the writing was very short and sharp, and really stop-start. This time, the writing was easy to read, the sentences flowed together, and it allowed for a deeper connection between the reader and the narrative!

I love reading a series and watching the author develop their style, especially in YA fiction - where the readers will grow alongside the novels!

Overall: I really liked the story, and I think the Night Realm series has a super bright future!

I enjoyed book 2 more than book 1. Maybe because now that I knew about the characters and was completely invested in the storyline, I could appreciate book 2 more.
This book had so many things happening at once that I was sent onto a complete roller coaster ride of emotions.
Callum was as usual amazing and I loved reading his POV in the book. There's a development in the relationship between the characters, which was so beautiful to read.
All the characters had some personal growth from book one, especially Sloane. ❤️
Bowman did a fantastic job at hooking her readers with that cliffhanger.
I am so excited to see how things go ahead 🙊 can't wait for book 3 now 😍

I was so lucky to receive Book 2 of Night Realms that when I got it I already started reading it! I loved the first book and I couldn’t wait to find out more about Sloane and the Realm. Especially that the ending of book 1 killed me!

The book 2 was even better than first one. It has more actions, adventures, love, dark power, mysteries, friendship, but also screaming moments. (most of the screams were from me). Also I like that now Collum is one of the POVs because I really wanted to find out what he was thinking when he was quiet, calculating, making plans.

All in all, The protector is an amazing book that deserves to be read! Thank you @lovebookstours and @krbowmanauthor for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Protector is the second book in the brilliant Night Realm Series.
I couldn't wait to get stuck into this book after how The Watcher ended and it didn't disappoint. We got to learn more about the Night Realm and Slone's family history as well as more about the Nightlins and how they came to be! I really liked that this book also included Callum's POV and loved getting to see more of him! After another cliffhanger ending I can't wait to read book 3! So far this a great series and I would recommend it to fans of Shadow and Bones as it gave me familiar vibes!

The writing is super, fast-paced, fun. Loads of pop culture references.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was also gifted an ebook copy of book one of the series so was able to follow the storyline smoothly.

Bowman creates characters that feel so lifelike you can't help but become completely immersed in their journey.

I loved how we were given Sloane and Callum’s points of view throughout and found each viewpoint to be equally captivating.

I honestly cannot wait to read more by the author and absolutely recommend her work!

I was given a free copy for an honest review. I was happily surprised by how far the author has come since the last book. The writing had improved, the story in this flowed much better and I didn’t feel nothing for the characters. Sloane seemed to change from the first book. I got this feeling of everything was easy for her and she was a natural, coming so far in the first book while this one made was more realistic. Although she cried A LOT, kinda understandable with the world she was thrust into. I liked reading from Callum’s point of view more than Sloane to be honest. If it wasn’t for him she wouldn’t have survived anything. How many times she passed out, couldn’t be bothered keeping track. I felt the ending, the writing went a bit downhill again but I am definitely going to pick up the next book to see how it all ends. Never thought I’d be happy to read a second book after only giving the first a 1 star but I’m really glad I continued.

The Night Realm Series is one you pick up and literally are taken to another world.

The books flow so fluently together it's like you never stopped reading the first one. The character development in these stories is amazing I felt like I knew each of the characters. This is important because when they feel an emotion in the book you feel you really relate to them .

Let's talk about plot twist.... I can't be the only one who tries to guess an ending lol. This series are full of plot twist and just when you think you know something... well you don't lol.

I can't wait for the next book in the series !

Firstly, thank you to @krbowmanauthor, @lovebookstours and @igbooktours for allowing me to take part in the tour for The Protector!  My first ever book tour was for the first book in this series, The Watcher, and a year later I’m still gushing about how much I loved it, so to be back doing the tour for the second instalment feels really good!!

In the Protector we rejoin Sloane and Callum in their fight to save the Night Realm from the Nightlins.  Together they must find Sloane’s grandfathers sword to hopefully defeat the creatures and end up in the Nightlin Mountain fighting for their lives but with more information unfolding about the Nightlins, potential traitors in their midst, who can they trust and who will survive?

I am so emotionally involved in these characters it’s frightening.  I love Sloane and her determination and her drive, Ashlen and her raging hormones and Callum…. oh Callum.  Callum is just a world of heaven in a character - strong, determined, loyal, handsome and our evolving ball of fire!  Back off ladies, as a book boyfriend, he is mine - scoot along now!  I love that the characters known as the Realmers are a family and that their bond is so strong, it somehow adds to the feelings that I have for them and want them all to pull through as a unit because one loss would break them.

The imagery is just as vivid in the Protector as it was in The Watcher and I’m so there for it! As terrifying as the Night Realm is I really wish it were real so I could go see it for myself in person!

All I can say for definite is that I’m obsessed - with the characters, with the setting, with the backstory, with the love story, with where the story is leading - I’m just obsessed.

If you love a fantasy novel and are looking for something new for your shelves then I beg of you to buy The Watcher and of course, this, the sequel in the series, The Protector.  You won’t be disappointed.
