Rose Well Holiday Park needs a hero. This once shining icon of the Great British Holiday Camp is dying, and the last residents are more interested in preparing for a zombie apocalypse or fighting off imaginary UFOs than playing Crazy Golf or Bingo.
In addition, a foreign bottled water company is attempting to force a sale so they can seize the last asset of Rose Well Park, the Rose Well Spring. The famous spring water claimed to bestow great health and longevity.
And then there’s the bomb...What Rose Well Park could probably do without, is a hero whose belief in a better tomorrow far outweighs any of his past achievements. But William Fox is all they have.
Armed with nothing more than an undying sense of optimism and a box of books about alien conspiracies, he slowly draws up his plans to make Rose Well Park famous.

Loved the characters in the book and the interesting setting . David Luddington spins a good yard , amusing and fun .I love his original ideas and quirky plots . Nice light hearted reading with a happy ending .
The Rose Well Files: A Tale of Woozles and UFOs, by David Luddington is yet another one of his quirky, witty, entertaining novels that takes the reader down a road (no spoilers) following the daily adventures of a man who happens upon a community that is, well, to put it mildly, comprised of the eccentric, those who live off the grid, those who cater to them, and the rest, an odd bunch of seemingly lost souls. The narrative is chock full with humorous dialogue, off-beat, almost dystopian in nature, and yet, the theme grows on you, as the author cleverly enters bits and pieces of the puzzle, until, in the end, one sees that all these oddball players have a role on this stage involving aliens, strange discs, bombs and WW II fighter planes. Luddington has a way of presenting normality as amusing, absurd, satirical and just plain fun - somewhat reminiscent of Monty Python tells. Read the book - it doesn't disappoint, and the ending is not what you think it will be.
An amusing story involving a number of zany characters and including the gradual development of a romantic relationship. The basic theme being the hopeless crowd versus the large company and finances. I thought it was a bit slow in the beginning but, after about 15-20% reading, it picked up to a steady pace. The last chapter or prologue, in my opinion, was too brief and seems to have just been slotted in to provide a way to finish the book somehow. Don't expect laugh out loud moments or eye-rolling and you'll get a good pass the time read.
This is David Luddington back at his best. My last review about a book that took place in Spain was less flattering. Here things have come back together again. Luddington seems to excel in the neighbourhood of Little Dibney at the Smuggler's Arms. Rose Well holiday camp is just outside of town and hosts a zany cast of characters. Jenna is the camp owner, Scooter and Wayne lend goofiness to most of what goes on and they are aided by lots of other interesting cohorts. I think you'll like this one.
A genuinely funny read.Well worth the wait and confirms Mr Luddington as a great writer
This has the same high quality of humourous writing in all his previous works. There were the complete range of characters, quirky through mostly normal. And the ending, well, you'll just have to read it to find out. And it doesn't disappoint.
Excellent book but then all his books are great can't wait for the next one. The only disappointment is that I read quicker than he can write so I will just have to have learn to manage my expectations accordingly
This is as normal for David Luddington, another brilliant book clever ideas and well thought out plots pure escapism for me as books of this genre should be,can't wait for the next one
David Luddington has a brilliant eye for the absurd and a way of telling a tale that lifts the spirits. Once again he has created a superbly amusing slice of life and drawn the reader in. A very funny and enjoyable book
Laid back, feelgood, often laugh out loud rom-com. Weird in a good way, damaged but likeable characters, getting away from the rat race but probably working twice as hard. The Hippy ideals aren't dead yet.
