One day you are going to realize how important self-care and self-love are. And when that day comes, you will sincerely apologize to yourself for all the times you wasted on the people who made you feel unwanted. Who made you feel hard to love and even more confused about what you're thinking and feeling. One day, you will be forced to rebuild. Forced to grow. Forced to stop grieving over your past and walk away from the ghost who can't seem to leave. One day, you will realize this… how sometimes the most beautiful people rise from the fire and bloom softly from the hardest roads. One day you'll see. One day it'll all make sense. This is an anthology of works written from author, Robert M. Drake. The Author has carefully selected his favorite works from previous releases.
R.M Drake is hands down one of my favourite writers. This book, is an anthology of his favourite pieces from all of his books. At first glance, you make think these passages are sad, depressing. But they are! His work takes you on a journey of healing and looking inward. You face all of the nasty thoughts in your own head and come through on top. His pieces all come together as a beautiful written story of growth. I love the journey I take reading his books, it makes my soul happy.
I found RM Drake through Instagram and was excited to use some Amazon slow shipping credits to buy these books. 1- the kindle edition was weird because it was a PDF so it didn't actually read like a kindle book, if seeing things like % complete and the time are important to you while you are reading. 2- (I will preface this statement with the fact that I feel terrible having these feelings) I felt like this was the type of poetry my pre-teen/teenage self would write. I didn't find it moving. It just felt like formatted phrases that weren't overly poignant. That said, he didn't write this poetry for me, he wrote it for him, so I appreciate that he was willing to be vulnerable and share that with me (and the rest of the world), so kudos for that.
This poet's work did not resonate with me...something about the writing (just random formatted statements it seemed like) that felt very young and repetitive...I felt it lacked depth and substance. Having said that, poetry is extremely subjective and I'm glad to see other readers have enjoyed his work.
I really loved this book because it was like reading advice from a friend. The poems were relatable and they gave me all the feels. I definitely recommend it.
