SOMEONE LIKE YOU is an amazing start to a new series by Marie Force, some of you may know Roni from a The Fatal Affairs Series, she was in book 14, but if you're like me and haven't read that book no worries you don't need to this can be read totally independent of that series. I will mention that I absolutely LOVE her Love interest in this book, I will not mention his name because that would be a HUGE spoiler and I don't believe in giving spoilers in my reviews.

I simply wasn't prepared for all of the emotions I felt with this story...it has you thinking of your own mortality and what would you do if you lost the love of your life or if you were the one to pass, what would you want them to do after you're gone. So many feelings, sadness is at the top but there was so much joy too. This story is one you don't want to miss!

I would recommend this book to everyone that enjoys a deep connection between the characters, a slow burn Romance, Love after Loss Romances, or Single Parent Romances.

Happy Reading!!!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY 2022!

First book in the new Wild Widows series that is a spin-off from Marie Force's outstanding and popular Fatal Affairs/First Family Series. I can't even begin to tell you how much this book resonated with me. It touched my heart in so many different ways. Roni Connolly was first introduced to readers in Fatal Reckoning, Book 14 of the Fatal Series. She will be the first of the grieving widows group to find her "Chapter 2." OUTSTANDING WITH ALL THE FEELS! I wept, smiled, laughed, along with oohing and aahing through each page.

For now, that's all I'm going to say -- avoiding spoilers. You won't want to miss reading "Someone Like You."

Every now and then I come across a book that, when I am done, I realize has left me a bit different than I was when I started the book. Someone Like You is one of those. My challenge now is to tell you enough so that you can decide if you want to read the book, but not so much that I risk ruining the book experience for you.

Someone Like You is a bit of a crossover in that the main character, Roni, first appeared in Ms Force’s Fatal series. That said this is a complete standalone and can be read that way.

When we meet Roni, she has just experienced a tragic event. The story here follows her as she deals with the grief associated with that and begins to move forward. One of the things I appreciated most about Ms Force’s approach here is that she let Roni be honest in her feelings and gives her an excellent support network. I will say that there is a bit of “best case scenario” here that may not be 100% realistic, but it’s a fictional story and I don’t know about you, but I want that best case…..

A piece of Roni’s support network is the Wild Widows and they (along with Roni’s family) make up the majority of the secondary cast. This is a group that I enjoyed getting to know and hope to see more of as this series develops. There are multiple pearls of wisdom given out here that I found relevant and touching. Seeing Roni’s journey and some of the challenges she faces have in turned challenged the way I see certain events and the responses to them.

Readers need to go into this book knowing that it is an emotional read. It’s a reading journey worth taking and it may leave you a bit different on the other side, but I honestly think the changes will be for the better in terms of empathy and understanding.

How do you move on after losing the love of your life before your thirtieth birthday? I loved Roni’s journey of choices and healing, in this new series.

After having her husband cruelly taken away from her, Roni is grieving. Her family is hovering and she needs to find someone who understands her situation. Enter the Wild Widows and their chapter 2 philosophy. They are helping her to navigate her “new normal”, as she moves forward with her life. Their hard-earned wisdom guides her through situations and decisions foreign to her.

Have tissues handy, as you will cry, laugh, and smile at these women and men telling their stories. I am looking forward to more of the Wild Widows stories as the series continues.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

hero was amazing

The hero in this stole the show! This is a very very slow burn (which was fine given the circumstances) but what let it down for me was too much talk of the same subject to every family member and friend. We do not need to read this over and over again, it got too much and I had to start skimming. I did enjoy this mostly because of the hero but this series, sadly, is not for me. 3.5 stars

5 Star Review of Someone Like You (Wild Widows #1) by Marie Force

Wow, Someone Like You, the first book in the Wild Widows Series, a spin off from the Fatal Affairs and First Family series from Marie Force certainly packs a punch.

This book was an emotional roller coaster of a read and one I couldn’t put down once I started it. We met Roni Connolly in Fatal Reckoning when tragedy struck and devastated her life, so I couldn’t wait to see what Ms. Force had in store for her. This book was everything I was expecting and so much more.

If this book is anything to go by, Marie Force has yet another winning series on her hands. This book got to me on a number of levels and I felt as though it burrowed into my soul. My emotions were all over the place; there were times that I laughed and times that I cried but throughout this read I felt the hope, love and support that surrounded Roni.

There were times that my heart broke for Roni and the devastating grief that appears to be smothering her. This story tackles a number of difficult issues and Ms. Force handled them with grace and dignity; she didn’t shy away from the hard realities that life can throw at us.

This is a story of hope and second chances, it was realistic, emotional and extremely well written.

I knew going onto this story it was going to be heartbreaking and hopefully joyful to.

“It’s an official group?” “Yep. We call ourselves the Wild Widows.” The name makes me laugh. “Okay…”

I’m trying to be very careful in what I say here I don’t want to spoil anything.

If I could I’d give it all the stars I would that’s how excellent this story is. It will give you all the feels sad , happy , angry I could go on and on.

“We have one rule, and that is everyone who joins us has to be open to the idea of what we call a Chapter 2, or a second chance at love.

The hero is the most compassionate patient swoon worthy perfect man she could have picked.

“The beautiful thing is that we’re allowed to be forever in love with the people we lost, and we’re allowed to entertain the possibility of new people in our lives, too.

We get cameos from our favorites first family.

This is a beautifully written story about love lost and found again. Get It Now!!

4.5 stars--SOMEONE LIKE YOU is the first instalment in Marie Force’s contemporary adult WILD WIDOWS romance series-a spin off from the author’s romantic suspense FORCE series. This is twenty-nine year old widow Veronica ‘Roni’ Connolly’s story line. Roni’s story begins in Fatal Reckoning (Fatal #14). As per the author’s request, the hero’s name will not be revealed .

Told from dual first person perspectives SOMEONE LIKE YOU follows in the aftermath of the murder of Roni’s husband Patrick, a stray bullet meant for someone else. Meeting police lieutenant and first lady Sam Holland throughout the investigation into her husband’s murder, Roni becomes quick friends with the US President’s wife, a friendship that will afford her the offer as the first lady’s White House communications director but first Roni must take a small step towards recovery and acceptance, having been welcomed into the a group known as the ‘Wild Widows’, a club for recently widowed singles who are struggling to move on where she will meet the man who will steal her heart. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Roni and her new man, as our couple must navigate the ups and downs of widowhood; the judgemental people in and out of their lives; the ethical conundrum of once again finding love; and the grief, recovery and welcome surprises along the way.

The relationship between Roni and our hero is one of mutual grief. Never expecting to meet someone that could fill the void, Roni’s growing relationship is slow to develop as each must come to terms with what happened in the past. The lone $ex scene is passionate and heart warming.

The wonderful secondary and supporting characters include Nick and Sam (Force Series), as well as both extended families including Roni’s former in-laws Peter and Susan. We are introduced to the Wild Widows members: Iris, Gage, Adrian, Brielle, Naomi, Aurora, Lexi, Kinsley, Hallie and Christy-all of whom have a tragic story of love and loss. Iris and Gage’s story is next in SOMEONE TO HOLD.

SOMEONE LIKE YOU is a story of grief and recovery, loss and acceptance, loneliness, relationships, friendships and love. The premise is powerful, raw and heart warming; the romance is emotional and subtle; the characters are real, intense and dynamic.

The thing I liked best about this book, unusual for romances that feature widowed protagonists, is the lack of either jealousy of the lost love, or negative comparisons.

I'm tired of lines like, "I thought I knew what love was, but...", or, "the sex with X was good, but...". Why, romance writers? Why‽ You know that old saying about if you can't think of anything good to say...?

Ms Force has just proven that it's possible to not have to make the new partner better than the old one, in order for us to feel the romance. And I, for one, loved it!

What I didn't like is how utterly sweet almost every single character is. I mean, cloyingly sweet. Aside from Wynter, no one has any edge, at all; and even hers is more bitterness than edge.

Sam is in this book. Sam, who practically defines snark, is sweet in this book. I understand that it's not Sam's story, but, still.

Despite the couple of things I didn't like, I'm off to pre-order the second book. I'm looking forward to Iris's story.

Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I lost my husband almost 15 years ago and he was the love of my life! It took me a year to realize that I was allowed to be happy and to open myself up to the idea of falling in love again. That hasn't happened yet, but I'm happy with my life and how far I've come in the last 15 years. Marie Force truly did her homework before writing this book. She hit the nail on the head about the stages of grief.

It's about healing from a loss as well as falling in love. The hero and heroine both had a spouse murdered, and both wind up working at the White House. They are also in the same grief support group. I liked it. Good read.

Reading Someone like you(Wild Widows, #1) by Marie Force was a pleasure and a privilege!

We met Roni Connolly in Marie Force's book Fatal Reckoning, which is part of her Fatal Series. I really liked Roni's character from the start, and was moved at how Lt. Sam Holland befriended her after Roni's young husband, Patrick was shot and killed. Sam worked his case and formed a new friendship with Roni. I was very invested in her story and curious about how her life would move on after such a tragic event.

In Someone Like You, we find and feel Roni deeply mourning and grieving her late husband Patrick. Roni is in a very dark place and as a reader you can't imagine how she'll ever move on.

Enter the Wild Widows group...a group of people who have "been there" and know about loss who become a lifeline and a ray of light for Roni! With the support of this special group of people and the passage of some time, Roni begins to feel something that she was convinced she lost. HOPE! Roni takes us along with her as she begins to entertain the idea of a new romance and an optimistic future!

Marie Force has expertly created a new and original tale for her readers to devour featuring Roni Connolly and all of the incredible supporting characters that cross paths with her, including new friends Lt. Sam Holland and President Nick Cappuano! Fatal Fans will love seeing glimpses of them on the pages of this gem of of a book, as well as many other incredible family members and friends!

Marie also gives Roni(and us) a love interest that smolders! I am still thinking about how special, unique and fantastic this story is over a week after I've read it! I hope you love it as much as I did! Well done, Marie Force! I am already looking forward to the next book in the Wild Widows series!

2.5⭐️ rounded up.

Roni is in the midst of grieving her husband, Patrick, who was ripped from their life together by a stray bullet, leaving Roni to come to terms with and learn to navigate life as a young widow. Enter the Wild Widows, a group of people who share an unwanted commonality and find support in a group they never wanted to join. All have lost a spouse in varying ways and are on their own journey to acceptance and, eventually, a future where a second chance at love could be possible. Derek is also a Wild Widow, and he and Roni form a friendship that, while navigating their grief, slowly morphs into something more.

Given this book centers around loss and grief, I wasn't taken on as emotional a journey as I expected. I understand the author's intent, and there is important messaging woven throughout; however, every character was so understanding, supportive, and frankly, too emotionally well-adjusted given their loss, that it felt off. The dialogue, story, and inner monologues were repetitive, and everything between the main couple felt too easy. There was a lot of telling rather than showing, and the nitty-gritty details I wanted were skimmed over with time jumps.

I liked the main and side characters. It's clear some are from a previous series by the author, but I was never left feeling out of the loop. I think the crux of my issue is that it felt cheesy when I wanted a deeper emotional exploration. It's not a bad book, and I liked it partly because of the narrators. This was my first book by this author, so I'll give the second in the series a try to see if this is a case of this book not quite being what I hoped for or if, in general, the writing style isn't for me. No spice rating, as this is what I would class as a "cracked door" read—spice is alluded to/has very brief descriptions/is glossed over.

"This grief shit isn't for the faint of heart, I tell you. It requires a daily commitment of time, energy, emotion and fortitude that run in short supply when you're tapping into the well so regularly."

"The beautiful thing is that we're allowed to be forever in love with the people we lost, and we're allowed to entertain the possibility of new people in our lives, too. It's this bizarre dichotomy of grief and joy all mixed into one big pot of emotion that makes sense only to those of us who've traveled this path."

"I'm not ready for something new."
"I totally understand." And I already know I'm going to wait for her to be ready for whatever this could be. All it took was ten more minutes with her to convince me that I don't want to go looking for lightning anywhere else. Not when she's around. "I shouldn't be holding your hand." "Does it bring you comfort?"
"Yeah."
"Then don't let go."

"It's not fair that he likes you better than me. I gave birth to him."
I love being Dylan's favorite and happily snuggle the baby into my right arm before I lean in to kiss Roni chastely even as I yearn for so much more. "'He loves you best because you're running the milk bar. I can't compete with that."
"If that's true, why does he always want you over me?"
"For the same reason Maeve wants you over me. "And what is that reason?"
"Our kids have good taste in people.'

Note: An ARC was provided by the author via Wildfire Marketing Solutions.

I'll be honest, my expectations for this book were astronomically high. After all, we're talking about the first in a new series from Marie Force, and not just any new series either. Wild Widows is a spin-off of the author's uber popular and much loved Fatal series--which is one of my all-time favorites of any genre--and you can imagine the sort of legacy this new series has to live up to while also creating its own. But I needn't have worried because this truly inspiring series starter surpassed any and all of my lofty expectations.

Someone Like You is the first Wild Widows novel, and it's set in Washington, D.C. The series is about a support group of the same name composed of widows and widowers and has one requirement--aside from the obvious--and that is members must be open to the possibility of a second chance at love, aka their chapter two. The newest person to join their ranks is Veronica Connolly, a widow at twenty-nine after her husband of three and a half months--the man she's loved for nearly a decade--was killed by a stray bullet. This book is Roni's journey as she learns to live, and maybe even love, again.

I was prepared with a box of tissues going into this book, and I made good use of it, thank you very much. Five Years Gone and One Year Home were the two books by Marie Force that have made me weep, and now, you can add Someone Like You to that list. Roni's loss and the aftermath that she lives through is heartrending, but her story is one filled with hope as well. I love how the past is honored and respected, how the present is promising but we're reminded that it's okay to not be okay, and how the future is anything you want it to be--you just have to be open to the possibilities. This book is on my shortlist for my top reads for 2022 and for five-plus-starred reasons.

Someone Like You is my first full length Marie Force book after being introduced to her in one of those free multi-author compilations they put together hoping it will convince you to get on the author’s mailing list and purchase more of their books. Obviously it worked on me. Her writing style reminds me a bit of Jill Shalvis in that its heavy on the feels and light on the sexy. Nothing wrong with that. It’s just an observation. But if you’re looking for steamy sex scenes this book isn’t it. This book is a combination of heart warming and heart breaking moments about love lost and love found and true friends who are there for you when you need them most.
After being with Patrick Connelly for almost ten years, since her junior year of college, in a case of insta-love with him being her first, and finally marrying him seven years after living together, some 3 months ago he is suddenly and brutally ripped from Roni’s (Veronica) life when a stray bullet kills him on a D.C. street while he’s walking from work to lunch on a typical weekday. They had been insanely happy together. He was the Ying to her Yang. His sudden death sends her into as close to a clinical depression as you can get without requiring hospitalization. She spends every day just going though the motions trying to find the strength to get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other. She’s dropped twenty pounds from her normally lean frame. She’s nauseous, and can’t keep food down. Her sister Rebecca (who is a real hero in this story) worried about Roni, insists she take an appointment with her ob/gyn that she’s made for her thinking seeing any kind of doctor will be better than seeing none. As it turns out her nausea isn’t the result of her widow’s grief as Roni thought. She’s pregnant with her late husband’s baby. So now along with dealing with the loss of her beloved husband she has to worry about how she’s going to be a single mom raising the child her beloved Patrick will never get to see. In Roni’s frequent walks through her D.C. neighborhood to help her deal with her listlessness and insomnia she spots a man from the back who looks like Patrick. Even though she realizes it’s completely irrational she’s driven to follow him into a local coffee shop a couple of times. That man is Derek Kavenaugh.
Derek’s character like Roni’s was introduced in an earlier series by the author, The Fatal Series. His story is even more tragic than Roni’s. He was married to Victoria and had a little girl with her named Maeve who is about two and a half when this story opens. He comes home one day to find Victoria’s murdered body lying on their kitchen floor in a puddle of blood and baby Maeve nowhere to be found. Maeve is found unharmed a few days later. But what makes Victoria’s death even more tragic for him is he discovers she was originally used as a plant to get close to him as the deputy chief of staff of the president who is a close personal friend of his, by a political rival. When she refused to continue to feed information to this rival because she’s truly fallen in love with Derek, he has her murdered. Fortunately before her death Victoria had left a letter with her lawyer detailing how she had been used by the man who had raised her after her parents were killed in an accident to spy on the current administration, and how after falling in love with Derek she refused to betray him. When Derek realizes this mysterious woman (Roni) seems to be stalking him he is alarmed and confronts her. She explains that she thought he looked like someone she used to know but doesn’t go into detail. When Roni accepts a job from Sam, the new First Lady who is also the head of the D.C. P.D. homicide squad (yeah, its a stretch to think someone can both be the First Lady and the head of a P.D. homicide squad but that's the author's story and she's sticking to it)who befriended Roni when she had to inform her of Patrick’s death, asks her to be her new communications director she again runs into Derek on her first day in the White House. He drags her into a conference room and demands to know what is going on because their constant running in to each other seems too much to be just a coincidence. Roni confesses the whole story of how her husband was murdered, how she met Sam and was offered her job, how Derek resembled Patrick from the back and that’s why she followed him. Derek remembers hearing the story of Patrick’s death and being no stranger to grieving a lost spouse himself, is immediately sympathetic to Roni. In truth he’s more than sympathetic, he’s attracted to her as the first woman he’s felt a spark with since Victoria’s death. But while he's two years past his wife’s murder Roni is only a few months past Patrick’s so they’re not in the same place emotionally.
In the meantime, before Roni starts her job at the White House, through a friend of a friend her sister Rebecca puts her in touch with Iris who is the founder of the Wild Widow’s club. They talk on the phone and Iris and her club of young widows and widowers turn out to be a God send for Roni to lean on in helping her deal with the grief of being a young widow. When Roni shows up for her first meeting of the Wild Widows Club Derek is also there Their chemistry is obvious to everyone annoying another club member who had her sights set on Derek. In their first club meeting Roni demonstrates with her compassion and wisdom that despite her personal grief she will be a valuable member to the group helping other deal with the grief of losing a spouse. Quite honestly the rest of this story is pretty much Roni dealing with her mixed feelings of grief over Patrick's death and guilt over how she can still love Patrick and feel this growing attraction to Derek who quickly has determined that Roni is special and worth waiting for her to be ready to be more than friends. Derek begins with giving Roni rides to work and in short order their lives have blended together and Roni is falling for both Derek and Maeve. While Roni struggles with feelings of cheating on her dead husband and what others will think of her so quickly being with another man, everyone else (accept Patrick’s mother) from her parents and siblings to the First Lady and most of all the other members of the club, tell her that she should feel free to live her life in ways that make her happy and she shouldn’t feel she need to answer to anyone for her decisions. That and the birth of baby Dylan are pretty much the whole story until near the end when Roni finally feels comfortable enough to acknowledge her feelings to Derek and act upon them. Good book with plenty of heart but Roni’s struggles with her conflicting feelings and everyone else giving her support and reassurance felt redundant after a while.

Lovely story about young widows, and told by a master storyteller like Maria Force! A man and a woman lose their spouses in tragic circumstances. They are in different stages of their mourning, but they’re not the same persons they used to be.

Both our widowers join a support group called Wild Widows, and together with a great group of similar sufferers, they explore the different world of a person who is widowed young.

What I found intriguing is that the journey of a young widow is different from the older widow. Being young, they go through a mourning process but they also need to face that for them, they should and can have another chapter in their lives. They have to sort their feelings and prepare to open their hearts to love again, because they are too young to stay alone for the rest of their lives. I loved what one character told our heroine, that her deceased husband may not be the love of her life, but rather her first love. She had yet to find the man she would love for the rest of her life. So full of wisdom!

Initially, the book had a monotonous voice, it was similar to reading a diary. I didn’t feel the anguish from such a tragic loss, more like a chronicle of what our character was living and feeling. It was as the book progressed that the feelings dropped, that I started to feel the bittersweet angst of a love lost and a maybe new one about to start, the guilt of letting go, of feeling we’re cheating that person we loved so much and lost. I felt empathy with the characters’ feelings, and how they evolved from a chemistry of like, to a deep and fulfilling friendship, to love.

In the hands of Marie Force, the prose is compelling and riveting and once I started, I didn’t want to stop. I loved them and loved their process, how they evolved from grief to anger to maybe love, to acceptance and to grace. It was a total process and a learning experience. As always, stellar writing and a wonderful story!

This was my first read from this author and what a brilliant introduction to her writing. From the very first page I was hooked until the very end. Marie Force weaved one hell of an emotional rollarcoaster with this storyline full of love, grief, loss, pain, tragedy, friendships, family, and healing. Every emotion was felt and seeped off the page. Tears were shed and laughter was had and it was worth every tear.

Roni has gone through the unthinkable when he husband is unexpectedly killed and she manages to find a support group the Wild Widows. People who have experienced the same loss as her, who know how she feels and understands. The only rule in joining is that you are open to experiencing Chapter 2 of your life no matter what that is or who it brings to your life but only when you are ready.

I adored Roni and my heart broke for her and what she endured but i loved her strength to move on, put one foot in front of the either and get used to her 'new normal' I can't wait to see what happens next with these Wild Widows as they all deserve their HEA.

Roni has endured a devastating loss which has not only changed her as a person but the future she had planned. She knows that she needs to create a new life for herself and that is where the Wild Widows come in. They understand her fears and feelings better than anyone else possibly could as they have gone through and continue to go through the same situation.

This is an emotional story about loss, healing and new beginnings. Roni must come to grips with what she has been through before she can let anyone into her heart. Her journey is written in such a way that you can empathize with her pain while her hero’s patience and understanding is everything you could ask for and more.

I have been a fan of Ms. Force books a few years now and her books never disappoint. In this new series we meet Veronica or Roni as she is called. She has lost her husband to a stray bullet five months ago.(For those of you who read Ms. Force Fatal series and First family series Roni makes appearance in one or two of these books)One day while out in the neighborhood she sees a man who she thinks looks like her dead husband. As a previous reviewer says the hero is a spoiler so all I would say Ms. Force did a great pairing of these two. Although this book is considered romance I loved the slow pacing of Roni and her hero building a friendship and getting to know each other as months and time go by. Great start to a new series.

Widows Beware...

If you have lost your husband be prepared. I cried through the first 6 chapters. After that I thought I was safe, I was until page 144 and I burst into tears again. I read the paragraph 3 times and got chills and goosebumps each time. I've gotten some emotional feels and even choked up while reading, but I've never shed tears before.

I have one complaint about this storyline, but with all the endearments that came with this story it's not worth mentioning.

This story was not a simple contemporary romance, it was about grief, sorrow, and the emotional torment that comes from the death of your spouse. Although my circumstances were different from that of a young woman it still was a difficult read for me.

This tale was an unexpected surprise with a very meaningful Moral to the Story... There is Light at the End of the Nightmare You're Going Through.

If you're looking for a hot sex story I can't in all honesty recommend this story. If your looking for something more, then it's for you.

As with all Marie Force stories this was an Excellent Read.!.

What an emotional read! I started reading this and had to completely abandon the other book I was reading because I could not put this down.
This was my first time reading something from this author.

Our main character Roni is dealing with the loss of a loved one. Her husband. As she's dealing with her grief she joins a support group of young widows. But she also has other opportunities that begin to help her move forward. A new job, new friends, and someone who is making her feel things she never thought she'd feel again.

This book was definitely emotional. I had my moments of tears and sadness but the growing friendship and love of Ronnie and Derek were so well balanced you were rooting for them the entire time. I loved the side characters of the wild widows group. I cannot wait to see the others journey in future books, even though I know those books with bring emotions too.

I’m not sure my words can do this beautifully written journey justice and I’m really not sure where to begin but what I do know is Someone Like You needs to be read with no preconceived ideas, you need to read it first hand so this review will not be full of spoilers, all I’m going to tell you is how I felt throughout and after reading this spin off from the Fatal Affairs and First Family Series.
This story drew me in from the first few pages and there was no putting down until I had read the final words, it’s emotional and it’s a roller coaster of a ride but you will be pleased you picked up this book and joined the ride. We first met Roni Connolly in Fatal Reckoning when her life was torn apart and I was intrigued to see how her story would pan out, let me just say this book was everything I expected and more.
If the rest of the Wild Widows Series is as good as this book, Marie Force will certainly have another hit series on her hands. Someone Like You ticked all my boxes, I swooned, I sighed, I smiled and I cried and honestly this story deserves more than the five stars I can give it so what are you waiting for, please one click this journey of second chances, love and hope.

A nice spin off from the Fatal series. Sad though. Glad Roni finds her happily ever after.

I’m very happy this didn’t have the 3rd act break up!
