1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 "Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 2 Thessalonians 3:5 "May the Lord direct your hearts to God's love and Christ's endurance."
Paul’s letters to the church at Thessalonica are filled with rich theology and reliable counsel for living the Christian life. But each letter is also marked by words of deep affection from the apostle for his brothers and sisters in Christ. Paul wrote to encourage the Thessalonians to remain firm in their commitment to the gospel despite present persecution, remembering the work of Christ in the past and His promises for the future. Join us as we spend three weeks reading these letters, finding renewed hope in the Spirit’s work to sustain us in every season as we eagerly await Christ’s return.
She Reads Truth is a worldwide community of women who read God's Word together every day. Founded in 2012, She Reads Truth invites women of all ages to engage Scripture through curated daily reading plans, as well as online conversation led by a vibrant community of contributing writers. This community of “Women in the Word of God every day” represents a long list of cities and countries, a variety of backgrounds and traditions, and countless real-life stories. But there is a commonality that binds us: we believe God's Word is Truth. So we read. Every day we read a new passage together—working our way through books of the Bible, topics that matter, and seasons of the Church calendar. We engage with God's Word and with each other. And we keep coming back, on the hard days and the good days, because God and His Word never change, regardless of our circumstances.
I studied this book while my father in law got sick and then died and then we went to his funeral. So while I was studying how the Thessalonians were feeling hopeless because they had some deaths and were worried they wouldn’t participate in the second coming of Christ and Paul was telling them “we don’t grieve as those without hope” the Word of God became very relevant to me. Paul also calls us to action to “rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything, for this God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I considered ways for me to do just do that.
Absolutely loved this study! I loved reflecting on 1 Thess. 5:16-18 - "Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
Very beautifully done book, the photography is always really nice. Love that there's plenty of space to write down prayers/notes.
I've never spent a lot of time reading Thessalonians before. I am glad that I did; two very encouraging books that address prayer, thanksgiving, and rejoicing.
2024: I really enjoyed this one this go ‘round. Glad I made efforts to study this book again.
2021: Maybe it was just me, but from the SRT studies I’ve done, I enjoyed this one the least. Which makes me sad given the topics are about rejoicing always, prayer, and giving thanks.
