Vivian Vaughan is the granddaughter of Texas ranchers and Texas Rangers. She grew up on the western edge of the Edwards Plateau, where there has always been a scarcity of water and grass – and an abundance of self-reliance, a place where people don’t take themselves too seriously and laughter comes naturally. Vaughan’s books reflect her love of the land, the people and their stories. Vivian lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband of fifty-four years, a retired NASA engineer. Their two sons, two lovely daughters-in-law (one from England; the other Mexico) and five of their 6 grandchildren live nearby.

When the world is a dumpster fire nothing beats reading a good, raunchy romance novel.

Stella Duval is my hero, just like her mother and, well... to keep the list short, she's one of many.
Stella is always on the go never staying still for a minute, fighting for what she believes is right. She is strong, independent and isn't afraid to dress up as a man to do man's work.
I think that Stella was extremely lucky to have Logan (the love of her life) on the enemy's side, otherwise she would have been stuck in some extremely horrifying situations. I know it's horrible for them to have to be each others enemy's, to always be torn away from the one you love, but it can also be really helpful too.
I personally preferred Texas Gamble (the first book in The Texas Star Trilogy) more than this book because of some minor details that bothered me.
I appreciated very much the amount of time Viviane Vaughan put into this novel, researching about the Cotton Road and showing me so much about the Civil War I never knew. I was engrossed from page one.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about love at first sight, which is pretty much what happened in this book. It felt nice, but a little unrealistic.
4.5 Stars from me!
