#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery writes heartwarming and humorous novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. She's best known for putting nuanced characters into emotionally complex, real-life situations with twists that surprise readers to laughter. Because Susan is passionate about animal welfare, pets play a big role in her books. Beloved by millions of readers worldwide, her books have been translated into 28 languages.

Critics have dubbed Mallery "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" It's no wonder that her books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list.

Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.

Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.

For some reason I totally missed Sweeter With You. I think it was because it was first published in the Fool's Gold Cookbook, then in it's own novella. When I was playing around on Amazon and saw it I knew I had to have it.

The story is only 45 pages so it's a real quick easy read. It's about Ana & Greg. I often wondered about them. They aren't really two characters that have been in the forefront of any of the Fool's Gold stories.

But you still wanted to know their story. And you now have it.

I really enjoyed Sweeter With You. I would have liked it to be a little longer even if that longer was only by 50 pages. I think the story would have benefited from it. Not that the story is bad, just a little to short.

This is a very sweet romance about how two people admit finally to loving the other. A must read for those of us that love the Fool's Gold series.

Short and Sweet

The change of heart from Ana Raquel happened a bit too fast for my taste but the pairing was inevitable. Two chefs sharing a passion for food and each other; I see lots of working out and/or elastic waistbands in their future.

Short formats are difficult for getting any depth into a story, and this one is no exception. Ana Raquel and Greg could have been wonderful characters and the food plot line salivating if they had been further explored. As it is, there is a feeling of racing to a finish line without taking time to look around along the way.

I normally don't read novellas but I love this series so much and was curious to see who Ana ended up with I didn't to give it a try. There's not much for me to say about it. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. It suffered from the main reason I don't care for novellas in that not much happens. There was a minor conflict in the characters past but that's relatively easily overcome so I didn't feel like there was much growth in the characters. Everything felt just a little to pat for me.

(Realistic rating: 4.5 or so? But I'm rounding down because I've got to say that putting this in straight up novella form, rather than a bit at the time interspersed with a cookbook, makes it read so much more choppily, especially given how short the "chapters" are?? I feel like Susan Mallery could have fluffed it up a bit more, or at least smushed several chapters together to make it less disjointed-- the content itself is great, it just feels like it jumps from place to place much too quickly!)

Apart from the pacing issues, as stated, what a lovely story. Ana Raquel and Greg are both fun, hilarious and determined and talented, and it's so much fun to watch Ana misinterpreting Greg's every cue and the competition she sort of imagines between them, while what they're actually doing is flirting and collaborating and growing closer and closer. It's a bit of a surface-only story, as these novellas tend to be, but it's still so sweet and earnest and unique (collaborating semi-rival chefs!!), and I'm totally charmed by everything about it.

#12.2 in the Fool's Gold romance series

This is another nice episode in the Fool's Gold series, although it felt as though it ended a little abruptly. There was a nice set-up, with Ana reliving the moments when she was competing with Greg over the years, going as far back as elementary school. Oddly enough, she's still kind of holding a grudge, but she's also still mortified over the fact that they ended up in bed together on prom night. Now they are both successful chefs in Fool's Gold--he owns a cafe/restaurant and she owns a food truck. They also have similar thoughts and both propose a Fool's Gold cookbook. Mayor Marcia gets the idea that they should work together on it, and, well, you can imagine what happens. The story was moving along nicely, with bits about their work together on the cookbook, then all of a sudden, the romance happened, they were together, and the story was over. A nice HEA, but I would have liked a few more pages with a bit more story since it was a nice one. Nicely narrated, as always, by Tanya Eby.

What I read: Sweeter with You by Susan Mallery

Why I picked it up: I couldn’t find this one on Libby so I skipped it and read the next three, but then I realized it was on Hoopla. It was originally part of an entire cookbook, but I liked the sweet story.

How I read it: On Hoopla.

What it’s about: Ana Raquel gave her heart to Greg in high school and has called him her nemesis every since. Except now that she’s finally brought her cookbook idea to Mayor Marsha, she’s got to work with him (he had the same idea the week before).

What I liked: It’s a quick story, but I appreciated seeing the missing piece of her story after I’d read the next three where I saw their new relationship being lived out.

What I disliked: I’d like to have seen the cookbook, but alas.

Genre: Closed door, second chance.

Rating & Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and as part of the series, it fits.

This novella is basically a perfect example of why I hate novellas. (1) There is no build up to anything. We barely meet either of these characters in other books so why should I care about them? They have no personalities or emotions or characteristics. (2) When you have, like, 50 pages to write a story, you have to introduce a conflict and immediately solve it. This leads to no tension whatsoever. Ana Raquel feeling like Greg was always better than her could have been an interesting plot line but because there was no time, it just seemed thrown in there for an immediate reason they couldn't be together. (3) No issues means no tension means no reason they can't be together means no plot means... this is boring. A snippet of a romance. I can summarize it for you in three sentences.

Cute little story

It seems that this story was part of the Fool's Gold Cookbook. I didn't read that. I wanted to see how Ana Raquel got her man. Having worked on a local cookbook, I was interested in seeing how this went. I may have to get the cookbook to see how the story works in. I liked how nice Greg was.

The storyline is laid back and the characters are realistic, but the pace is very fast. It is as very short story. If that sounds good to you, try it and see.

Short story about Ana Raquel competing against Greg Clary all her life. Whether it was the attention of the audience in a school play in second grade, or selling food to customers in the restuarant, to Ana, Greg was always annoying.

Then the idea of making a cookbook of Fools Gold recipes came up. Mayor Marsha get the two to work with each other.

I enjoy the conflict the two cooks have. The banter is healthy.

Sweeter With You is a novella in the Fool’s Gold series and I just loved getting to reenter this amazing world. I just absolutely fell in love with these characters and I just couldn’t get enough of them. This was just a wonderful story and I was sad to see it end. I can’t wait to read more amazing books from this author.

Great sweet novella about Ana Raquel and Greg. Mayor Marsha was at it again. She just seems to know what to do to get two people together. I will miss this series. Fool's Gold was a great getaway to imagine yourself living in.

Short but sweet , the chemistry they have is great. I really enjoyed this book/ cookbook. Inlove Susan Mallory's attention to detail, and how she does little updates of the town and people of Fools gold, cant wait to try more recipes from this book .

Ana Raquel, the maven of the popular food truck in Fool's Gold, has to share her plans for a cookbook with her archnemis and the owner of the Cafe restaurant. Originally published as inserts in the FOOL'S GOLD COOKBOOK.

I really wish this story was longer than 40 pages. It was nice to know how the two characters ended up together but I really would have liked more.

Cute short story about chefs. Not real substance, angst, and battles. Normal everyday people who fall in love. 3 and a half stars.

Loved it, but because it was originally part of a larger book, it was too short for me.

A cute little novella, but I don't understand why Greg forgives her so quickly, and I also couldn't figure out the timeline of when her parents died and when Greg got to know her mother...

A cute story

This is a cute, light addition to the series. I agree with others that it is too short. Moreover, I feel we needed to see the hero’s perspective at least once.

I liked this one, but I wish it had been a full novel instead of a short novella.
