I love words, but that wasn't always true. I grew up with a talent for numbers, leading me to follow a different path. I went to Annapolis and MIT and became a nuclear physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Only after I retired was my desire to tell stories reawakened.
In recent years, I have immersed myself in the world of words, drawing on my scientific knowledge and personal experience to shape my writing.
As a scientist, I explored physics and technology, which enabled me to create informative and insightful books, sharing my knowledge with readers who sought to expand their understanding in these areas—contributing to their intellectual growth while satisfying my own passion.
But it was my time as a naval officer that ignited my imagination and propelled me into science fiction. After graduating from the United States Naval Academy and serving on nuclear submarines during both hot and cold wars, I witnessed firsthand the complexities and challenges of military operations that seamen face daily.
This allowed me a unique perspective, which I channeled into creating Henry Gallant and a 22nd-century world where a space officer fought against invading aliens. Through this narrative, I explored the depths of human resilience, the mysteries of space, and the intricacies of military conflict.
My stories let me share the highlights of my journey with you. I hope you enjoy the ride. (www.hpeteralesso.com)
This series is a nice story do human courage and ingenuity that appeals to all. I really like the characters, action and plot of the story. Also it has a good ending.
This is the 8th book in the Henry Gallant Saga. I have really tried to like this series. I like the military part of the story and I really like the main protagonist. What really drags down the series, ruins it actually, is the bullshit politics that the writer slaps on with heavy hand.
The fleet action is really good and I really like reading about Henry Gallant when he is commanding a space ship and kicking alien ass. He is competent, heroic and likable.
Unfortunately a way too big part of the story is about this completely nonsensical idea about genetic engineering. That in itself could perhaps be somewhat plausible but the idea that it, mostly for political reasons, should be mandated that you have to have it and those without are discriminated against it is just rubbish.
Then on top of that the politicians and a good chunk of the Admiralty are lying, incompetent assholes that considers it more important to foster their political agenda and cover their asses than to actually care for their people and, in this case, the survival of humanity. That of course is rather realistic as senile Joe and his psychopath handlers have proven, but it doesn’t mean that I want to read about it.
So, this is a two out of five stars for me. Way too much political assfuckery in tis book for it to be an enjoyable read for me.
Overall, I really liked this book. The story line, the world building, the characters was above average. As soon as I finished one book, I immediately purchased the next one in the series. Now the bad; There are/were too many dangling story lines. Key events that led to the next book were left unsaid. Key characters critical to the success of story lines were killed off. What happened to secondary characters that contributed to individual story lines. There were "syntaxes errors" galore. Improper punctuation in the wrong places. Unless this author can follow through, imnit buying anything else he publishes.
Henry Gallant returns to the Sol System from his victory in the Ross System. His fleet destroyed the Titan fleet. On that wave of victory, his battered fleet arrive home in time to see the gathered might of Titans destroy the home fleet. Captain Gallant, soon to be promoted, has to find a way to defeat the Titan fleet which has been upgraded with Chameleon technology. Can even Henry Gallant overcome the vast gap in ship numbers while dealing with the genetic discrimination of President Neumann? I recommend this book.
Another good entry into the series but we're kind of spinning our wheels here and I'm hoping we'll see some actual progression on the whole conflict with the President and genetic engineering plot. The rest of the book is the usual Henry doing his best to try to pull humanity's butt out of the fire after they've been dealt a crippling blow by the aliens trying to destroy us all.
The book was well written our main character was given deeper development. The action was good and well developed. Only dislike was secondary characters were basically one dimension. If you had not read the series none would make sense. Overall nice way to finish the series or maybe continue one more book.
Henry Gallant and the United Planets Space Navy saga continues
Another engrossing read from H. Peter Alesso concerning humankind's fight for survival in the stars. Gripping action, impossible odds . Highly recommended.
There were a lot of ups and downs, but I have learned to e!brace them!
From the opening lines to those that end this book, I pondered if he would prevail or merely survive. Sadly, that would be a spoiler and I don't do the!! You will have to learn the same way I did! 😐
