The Queen’s Gambit: All Things For The One Of The Best TV Series On Netflix: The Queen's Gambit Trivia Book

Rate this book
Engaging and fast-paced, this gripping coming-of-age novel of chess, feminism, and addiction speeds to a conclusion as elegant and satisfying as a mate in four. Now a highly acclaimed Netflix series.

Eight year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of sixteen, she’s competing for the U.S. Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

When Beth was little, She fell in love with playing chess. However, students in the school didn't like her personality and because of that, she became untalkative and very competitive. She met a teacher from school that knows how to play chess. Beth will come down every evening into his office and have a game of chess with him and Beth always beats him. The teacher was amazed with her talent and suggested she have a go at the tournaments in the states.

When she played in her first tournament, she was only thirteen. It was the youngest ever winner in the Kentucky State Championship. She has been awarded a position to participate in the US open, which if she wins, she will be awarded to compete in the World Championship of chess. She was seen as a dark horse in the US open where she beat many good players and eventually reached the final and won the US open.

When she had played for the World Championship. She had gone through every round of the competition and eventually reached the final and faced the reigning World Champion- Borgov. At the final, Both players played very well, but Borgov was better than her, so Beth only got second place.

In the World Championship next year, like last year. Beth had gone through every round with ease. In the final, Beth played Borgov again. The match lasted 4 hours long, Both players were very tired. Borgov offered a tie, meaning that both players will be World Champion, but Beth didn't accept it. She fought a long way to the final, she didn't want to come home empty hands. At last, Beth became the youngest World Champion ever in chess.

Overall, I think this book is very inspiring because Beth will never give up no matter if she is winning or not. I recommend this book for teenagers to read.

The Queen's Gambit is a compelling novel, featuring a main character named Beth Harmon who plays chess with some cons, which is a metaphor for addiction and loneliness.

I like this book because it teaches me how to play chess, but I was surprised to see something so explicit in the book. ( I haven't watched the movie )

I also liked how the author made chess sound exciting and emotional, even for readers who don’t play the game. Beth Harmon is a fascinating character! Smart, independent, but also human, of course. The author’s writing is clear and detailed, helping readers understand her thoughts and feelings. However, some parts felt a bit slow, especially during the long chess matches. I would highly recommend it to teenagers and adults who like inspiring character.

I did like this book, but there was one thing about it that kept me from rating higher. The book is about an orphaned girl who learns how to play chess while in a boarding home for girls. She becomes a master player while navigating life as an orphan, adoptee, and then on her own. The story was beautiful; however, for non-chess players, the technical language made it hard to understand. Apart from that, I would recommend it to others.

Very addictive. Worth the read. Some parts very technical and as I don't play chess got a bit lost. But overall. Very engaging. Didn't want to put it down
